Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Anyone care to fill me in on this game (The World Ends With You)? I've seen it mentioned quite a bit throughout the thread. Is it just a really popular game or are people flipping it? I've seen it in a couple stores, but I don't have a DS.

Well, haven't played it yet but just read the reviews on Metacritic. It is a critically acclaimed and supposedly innovative RPG. I actually bought one at full price ($40! :bomb:) much to my dismay as, like I said, I have yet to play it. I just couldn't pass up getting a another mint used copy for so cheap even if I have no use for it. I'll probably save it (or my sealed one) for a gift for someone.

I'm in the same boat as my full price copy has also yet to be played. I too could not pass up another copy for 9.99, paired it with a 9.99 Okami so I am part of the ear infection curse. Have hit 4 stores in the past couple of days and landed:

GTAIV (PS3)
Baja (x360)
De Blob * 2
Okami (Wii)
Spiderman: WOS (DS)
Bioshock (PS3) * 2
TWEWY
Wall-E (Wii)

Hope to hit three more stores in the next couple of days.

OK, so for you late night (or early morning I guess - though I don't get you people ;)) CAGs here's a little treat. It bothered me that I missed some great GS trade-ins when I went to so many BBVs on Tuesday. In fact, I bought much worse stuff than I could have.

So I took all the latest trade-in values, and assuming you use the full GS promo (6 games + Edge) to get the 50% bonus, here is the list, in order from best to worst of the BBV games...

The notables are Iron Man and Incredible Hulk for 360 and Incredible Hulk for Wii - all of which seem to be fairly common, and probably not highly desired by most regular shoppers. I saw the high values in the GS trade-in thread OP while I was checking these games out on Tues but they were from April or so. I figured they had dropped a ton since then so I didn't buy any of them.

All the prices are current except for those games marked with a * after the title - those have older quotes (2 weeks or more out of date). Note that the list is by no means complete with all the B1G1 games or even the commonly found ones. I left off some clearly bad ones (like Sega Superstar Tennis and Kung-Fu Panda for 360). But also we need a quotes for games like Coraline (which might be a hidden gem).

Clearly, GTA IV for 360 is the best but I haven't seen any at BBV since Dec/Jan. I did see one House of the Dead 2 & 3 yesterday and just assumed it was worthless. D'oh! And of course till Weds night I passed on all the Iron Man and Hulk games thinking they were even more worthless (why would the much newer Quantum of Solace only be worth $7.50 but old and bad Iron Man is worth $8.50?).

This is a csv file so you can import to Excel if you choose... It may be a bit hard to read here otherwise. Note that while most of the prices are fairly up to date (the last few days in the GS trade-in thread) except for the ones with asterisks, they are subject to change at any moment.

I start work at 6:30 et so I am an early morning person. Thanks for the hard work on the trade-in info. I too passed up lots of Hulks & Iron Mans which means I have so backtracking to do.

That list is awesome and most helpful as I've had no free time to do the math on this. I wish I had some credit left at BBV, but I've picked up a few games for myself with (gasp) cash instead. At least with this list when I can't find a match of games I want I can find a match that will pull in the most credit possible in trade at GS as I already have a couple of games to trade in there. Now if only I could actually find No More Heroes. . .

Ya, thats a pretty awesome list you got there IO.

And I'm in the same position as jdawgg right now. I already flipped all of my BBV credit to gamestop, so I guess I am going to be doing a little bit more GS >>> BBV and back today.

Thanks for the list. Here is some extra stuff to go with it.

Wii
Igor $3.50, $6.00
Crash of the Titans $5.00, $12.00
MX vs ATV: Untamed $5.00, $9.00
Barnyard $5.00, $6.75
Legend of Spyro Eternal Night $5.00, $8.63
Disney Think Fast $5.00, $7.50

Edit: Fun fact, Out of all the Narnia's(not including the ds one) wii has the best TIV. I'll post it later once I have the exact value. Even though the ps3 used price is higher then the 360 one at GS, It has the lower trade-in value.

It is the cheapest at BBV though($6.99). Avoid this- PS3 Narnia: Prince Caspian $3.50, $3.37.

I went to 2 Blockbusters last night (found my deals at the first one, though). One in Lantana, FL, and one in Boynton Beach, FL. They had most of the stuff listed on this forum, except for bigger titles like GTAIV and Bioshock. I managed to grab one of the games I went for, but the other was too expensive and not part of the deal, which was Grid. So I picked up Ninja Gaiden 2 (360), and Mercenaries 2 (360). Spent $14.99 plus tax for both. Not bad at all. Both had original cases and artwork, as well as booklets. Great game deals so far this year, with this and that Best Buy one from a few of months ago.

i scooped up spiderman wos and ninja gaiden 2 at a local store

looking out for some mass effect now at some other spots.. any recommendations for a match up?

I was thinking about lego batman, dmc4, QOS, hulk or bad company depending on what i can find

spiderman wos has been pretty fun in my opinion so far by the way

also to add.. i've seen Conan for xbox 360 for $6.99 at a nearby store.. don't see it listed in the main post...

Earth Defense Force would be a cool find but haven't come across it anywhere
So I took all the latest trade-in values, and assuming you use the full GS promo (6 games + Edge) to get the 50% bonus, here is the list, in order from best to worst of the BBV games...
Nice! Thanks Io! One slight improvement, I think - I've added the system to all the entries, for those of us unaware of what games are on what systems. It's possible I made some mistakes though, so please please correct me if I've got anything wrong. There's also a couple questions embedded in there.

EDIT2: I added BattlehunterAlex's entries and for your, perhaps useful, viewing pleasure, three versions. The first is sorted by percent, the second is sorted by system and then percent, and the last is sorted by price (cost) and then percent.

EDIT3: Added Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth (Wii), and fixed the latter two csv's - they were missing some entries.

I thought this was at every BBV, but the one near me didn't have any sale for this. So this sale is YMMV, but apparently most stores do have it, so I was just out of luck

The only BBV I visited that wasn't running the sale was one that was closing and in the last days of that. One or two I visited didn't have any signs indicating a sale was on, but when I checked out the b1g1 was applied - note that the employee I talked to at one didn't even know about the sale, but it still rang up correctly!

The prices do seem to be YMMV. I've yet, for example, to find De Blob for $14.99. All the ones I've visited have had it tagged for $19.99 and the one I had a price check done on still came up as $19.99. I should have had it price checked at all of them, though. The one I did get a price check at wasn't a franchise store either - at least there is nothing saying "franchise" on the receipt. Maybe a franchise is indicated some other way?

io that's an awesome list!!! I promised my girl that yesterday was the last BBV run well I might have one more in me being that I skipped over half these games!

Oh that's weird. I asked the employee and he had no idea of the sale. There were no signs anywhere either. I wasn't going to get anything anyways because what my BBV was way too dissapointing. They had maybe 10 games? GH3, GHA, Army of Two, and not much else. Really lackluster. The store isn't closing down either. It's alright though, I was just kind of scouting and if there was something interested I would have picked it up, no biggie.

For the fight night 4 deal they don't take in multiple copies of the same game, but for just regular trading to GS does it matter? That list is pretty impressive, thanks a bunch, and I feel like going out and buying some more. I did the FN4 deal at gamestop and also finally got an edge card, which already saved me 2.50 that day so I have a year to make back 12.5 on it.

I keep track of my EDGE savings. In the past year, I've saved $573.90 through trade ins and used game purchases. :D If you flip, you'll get plenty of use out of it.

Yeah my Edge card was scheduled to run out this week and I renewed it without thinking the other day. Over the course of a month it pays for itself.

I don't know why, but a manager of a store gave me a free Edge Card membership last month, which was nice because mine had just run out. He goofed up the whole thing trying to give it to me free too and ended up crediting me $10 back to my Edge Card on top of it.

If you spend at least $150 a year on used games it's worth getting for $15. I've spent nearly that much in the past month with flipping, but if you don't make many purchases, especially used buying/selling, then it's no deal at all.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but when does this sale end?
I believe it's a two week sale, so should end at the end of business on July 13.

Hmmm.. The blockbuster right by my house is not showing up on the blockbuster.com store find anymore.. Hope this doesn't mean it's shutting down. Too many good finds there.

Picked up Dark Sector and *cough* Haze for $10 at my local blockbuster in Tucson...

They had Vikings, Wall-E ($14), and that Lost game too.

One of my local BBV has about 20 copies of Haze clearanced at $20 (new). I'm not sure why they didn't ship those out when they got rid of most of their new games but i'm pretty sure those 20 copies will be there for a while.

I went to one BBV to pick up 2 more games for the FNR4 deal and I picked up Bioshock PS3 and QoS. I already had GTA4 to round out the set of three but I decided to switch out Bioshock for Grid 360. Grid had a $16 tiv in the GS thread but I noticed that they sell it for $26.99 used. Sure enough, the TIV dropped to $9. It's not much but I'll take the extra $4 in credit. : )

I dunno if there's a thread for this, but if anyone finds a copy of Bad Company and Army of Two for the 360 for cheap, and maybe want to get rid of them, send me a PM!

I'm about to go back to my BBV and see what they have left. I remember seeing Army of Two when i first went if it's still there and I don't see anything else I want I may pick it up.

I seriously have to thank CAG and all the super helpful posters like Io. I might spend even more at my blockbuster, I -shouldn't-, but it's hard to pass up free money(even if that means the rest of my bills will be tight).

I spent almost 80 dollars at my store(sorry guys, my 20% discount stacks ontop of the deal =P) And got Fight night round 4 from GS, around 2000 points into Goozex when the trades go through(dropped off my first today, and another 1000 when I trade fight night) and 91 dollars in GS credit. I had to buy an edge card so that cuts on the profits a little bit but between 2.5 saved on fight night, 9 today and using it on whatever I buy WITH that credit, it'll more than pay itself.

Really freaking awesome. Looks like no one hit my store, almost everything was left this morning except my manager said some old women came in to buy a bunch of wii games to put up on ebay, lol.

*Edit* Oh yeah, the 91 credit came from 8 games I bought today between 6.99 and 14.99 from bbv(39$ total) but I don't think there was 1 game I'd actually play. Hulk on wii/360, iron man on 360, we ski...oh de blob was the only good game, but I have it anyway. The guy at GS starting ringing up my games and was like "iron man, it was such a good movie but bad game huh?", I just played along and then mentioned how good wolverine was for a movie game. I've never traded before fight night 2 days ago and it was funny to see him looking at the games like I really had bought and played them.

K just got back from my local BBV.

Bought:
:360: $14.99
NBA 2K8 (Came complete & couldn't help it needed my sports fix)
DMC4 (Missing manual)

And whoever asked about Army of Two it was still there but didn't have enough to get another. :) If you still want it I could pick it up and you paypal me $15, I'd be getting a free game. :)

I stopped by 4 local BBV stores so far and most of them have nothing worthwhile. Mainly looking for :360: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and something else along that price like Harry Potter. Last time around I got several copies of GTAIV, BioShock, and Turok and was an awesome deal. Most of the games have no covers/instructions (who the heck loses these when they sell a game?) and the selections to choose from were awful. Still, might stop by a few other stores if I can to try and find something decent from the sale.

EDIT: Nvm mine had Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, sorry.
And I was also wondering what was up with the Store Locator on BBV website, was looking to see what time it opened.

It has been a long time friends. I'm kind of said I won't be making as much free 'money' as last time but I'll manage. I went to a store in Florida last night and they still had a few Sega Genesis games. It was crazy. All the previous gen games were either 5.00 or 7.00 so that was nice. However, all the current gen stuff was miss priced or stuff that wouldn't net me any money. I did find a copy of MGS: TS for $5 and a copy of Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis for $7 so that was real nice.
Thanks to IO and the other guy for the lists. They are very much appreciated. I cannot believe with the amount of GTA IVs I traded in this winter that the X Box version can still trade for $21. Come to think of it that was more than it was trading in at last winter. Carzy Gamestop and their silly trade-in system.

The TIV is actually $14. The $21 comes from it being paired with other promotions.

i hit the jackpot this morning. walked and found gta, bioshock, folklore, and oblivion. bought them and traded 3 of the games for fight night. the lady at the counter at bbv was in shock that the games rang up b1g1 free. she was like "WOW" and i told her about the sale, then she asked me if there was a sign there, and i told her no that i read about it on the internet. the lady said shes told every customer who asked her about the sale that she didn't know what they were talking about. and this was the store manager!

i went to two stores and they actually had signs up. First store didn't have anything great left for 360. I picked up Mass Effect and Unreal Tournament 3. The second store had a lot more in stock. I picked up Bully and Condemned 2. I might go back and get a few more games. I would like to pick up FNR4 from Gamestop if I can.

Thanks to everybody in this thread for the heads up about this sale.

Does anyone know if blockbusters are going to restock and/or have some games hidden to spread the deal?

As I said in other posts the BBV in CT are pretty sparse now that I and other CAGers cleaned them out.

Mercs 2 PS3,$7.50 ,$9.00 ,1.2

This game is actually only 9.99 at BBV. So it would be 5.00 -> 9.00, putting it up in the top quarter of percentages.

Was able to get my second Fight Night rd4(first one was for keeps). Have an extra Folklore, so need to get one more set. Probably return that one towards something for the kids. Afraid guilt/Karma will catch up to me. Already informed wife that she will need to do a gift receipt return for me.

Able to nab Iron Man, Hulk, Deblob and Walle for the tiered promo. Holiday traffic is already getting crazy at the jersey shore, don't think I'm going to make it out after tomorrow.

Today's the last day to get Tenchu at Gamestop for $12.49 after edge.

Hopefully we get a good used game of the week or coupon for more credit transfers. Hate using CASH, especially at blockbuster.
