Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

My local Blockbuster has tons of games for $14.99 and under.

I grabbed the only copy I saw of GTA4 for the 360 and the only copy of Folklore I saw for the PS3. And 2 copies of Quantum of Solace for the 360. Also nabbed Dragon Quest Swords and DeBlob for the Wii.

Lots of $10 and under games I'm thinking of going back for too.

Kept 1 copy of Quantum for myself, than traded the other copy along with Folklore and GTA4 for the Fight Night Round 4 deal.

So got DeBlob, Quantum of Solace, Dragon Quest Swords, and Fight Night Round 4 for roughly $48 after tax.

Pretty sweet.

They had copies of Web of Shadows and Quantum of Solace for the PS3 but they were all marked $19.99. Anyone know if they should ring up for $14.99 if I took them to the counter?

I know this isn't the gamestop forum but I'm asking for TIV purposes so it's blockbuster related. Someone had posted that wheelman had gone back up on the GS website, but considering that it was part of the weekly email/flyer, shouldn't the Wheelman/Hawx price and the Used Deal of the week price be valid through tonight?

Also, huge thanks to io for his post!

Do you need a gift recepit? I didn't get one, but still have my normal receipt. I normally wouldn't do this, but it's the only way I can afford ghostbusters. Don't mean to tell my sob story, but was given a paycut a month ago and had to cancel my ghostbuters pre order. I had 3 games that applied, so traded them in this morning with the hopes of exchanging them tonight - but only have a regular reciept.

If your local Gamestop's employees are reallllllllllllllllly nice and forgiving you may be able to trade in your copy of Fight Night for Ghostbusters....but the Gift Receipt helps since it doesnt show that you just traded in 3 games for Fight Night. BTW..theres a Fight Night forum you should have posted this in. Stay on topic.

Fuqua/Sabo - Did NOT have the sale
Heh, employees might not know but the cash register does:) (Unless there's another one on fuqua I don't know about, store locator seems to be down). I don't even ask about the sale, just bring up the games and if it doesn't ring up right I say "wait, there's not a july 4th sale at this store like the other blockbusters?" and put the games back. Remember they have to hit total for the b1g1 to show. You should see the price on the card swipe thingy.

Oh well, hope you find some more. I know I ain't done yet.

Picked up :ps3: BioShock and :360: Grand Theft Auto IV for $14.99 total this morning. Now I just have to figure out where to trade them in at? Amazon? Gamestop? FYE?

I'm going to try to grab the last local one for $29.99 on my way to work tonight. Due to IO's list I have a lot of backtracking to do and would prefer one more wheelman/tenchu/racepro swap.
I think all the hard work this week flipping will be put towards the 20% coupon and try to get Punchout and the Conduit.

I'm bored so I'll play along.

FYE(based on secondspin.com prices): You'd get $15 base, $22.50 with promo bag
Amazon: 20.50 base, add another $30 worth of games to get 50% off a game/accessory
Gamestop: $25.75 base, add 4 more games to bump that up to $38.62 with tiered promo/edge.

The sale in the PDF for Wheelman doesn't say new or used but I'm assuming they're new. Chances are if the website is saying $49.99, it's the same price in store. At least with the Tenchu you can show them that it's 14.99 until the end of today.

We need someone to report what they see.

If anyone finds extra copies of "Hulk" & "Iron Man" for either the 360 or PS3 that are complete and in good shape disc wise let me know maybe we can trade or I can purchase via Paypal.

So far i have received $180 trade in credit for Gamestop from buying $80 worth of games from blockbuster. I used the money to help buy a PS3. I bought more games to trade in today for I can get some PS3 games. I keep finding tons of GTA IV and De Blob, but I haven't found any Bioshocks for PS3.
Thanks for the list. Here is some extra stuff to go with it.

Wii
Igor $3.50, $6.00
Crash of the Titans $5.00, $12.00
MX vs ATV: Untamed $5.00, $9.00
Barnyard $5.00, $6.75
Legend of Spyro Eternal Night $5.00, $8.63
Disney Think Fast $5.00, $7.50

Edit: Fun fact, Out of all the Narnia's(not including the ds one) wii has the best TIV. I'll post it later once I have the exact value. Even though the ps3 used price is higher then the 360 one at GS, It has the lower trade-in value.

It is the cheapest at BBV though($6.99). Avoid this- PS3 Narnia: Prince Caspian $3.50, $3.37.
How up to date are these prices? Did you just trade these recently? The GS trade-in thread has Crash of the Titans at only $6 base (instead of the $8 base you have - I assume that's what it was and your $12 is with the 50% added). Problem is, that quote is from last OCTOBER! I suppose it could go up a bit if it is in low supply at Gamestop. But if those are the current values please post them in the Gamestop trade-in thread (base values, with dates). They need to be added to the master list over there anyways. I'll add them to my list too though I'd like confirmation of the dates on those. But if Crash of the Titans is correct, it makes it the 7th best trade-in along with Bioshock for PS3. Problem is, I think I may have seen just one and I'm not even sure of that.
That's what I did on Tuesday afternoon at work before heading out.
Well, thanks for sharing ;).
The prices do seem to be YMMV. I've yet, for example, to find De Blob for $14.99. All the ones I've visited have had it tagged for $19.99 and the one I had a price check done on still came up as $19.99. I should have had it price checked at all of them, though. The one I did get a price check at wasn't a franchise store either - at least there is nothing saying "franchise" on the receipt. Maybe a franchise is indicated some other way?
Nothing YMMV about de Blob. I've bought it at at least 4 stores for $14.99 and seen it tagged that way at a couple more. As for the receipt thing - could be, as the last time I bought something from a franchise store (and it said so on the receipt) was 2-3 years ago.
Does anyone know if blockbusters are going to restock and/or have some games hidden to spread the deal?

As I said in other posts the BBV in CT are pretty sparse now that I and other CAGers cleaned them out.
There is unlikely to be any restock. This stuff is for the most part games that were converted from rentals in each store (with a smattering of trade-ins to go along wth that). Occasionally they will transfer stock from a low volume store to a higher volume store but I wouldn't count on that happening in the next week and a half. Our best bet is a price reduction this Sunday on some of the $19.99 stuff making it newly elegible for the B1G1.

Both Cabela's Big Game Hunter and Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2009 are $9.99 at GS starting tomorrow. I called a BB to get values but the employee said there are no TIV for them. Can someone else confirm there are no TIV for them?
Our best bet is a price reduction this Sunday on some of the $19.99 stuff making it newly elegible for the B1G1.
I already put one 19.99 game in the cabinet and will be checking with my store sunday morning on price drops =P Here's hoping

Just for fun, here is the relative availability (that I observed) of the top games on that list (those that get 1.8x or more at GS). I went to 10 stores, so this is how many I saw out of 10. I was at most of these places the first day so I think I saw most of what they had before too many other people bought anything. Of course, this is totally YMMV and in your area it might be completely different. Also, it is from my memory and I wasn't neccesarily looking for some of this stuff (like the Iron Man and Hulks) at first.

GTA IV 360: 0 out of 10 stores
House of the Dead 2 & 3: 1/10
Incredible Hulk Wii: ~3/10
Iron Man 360: ~5/10
Incredible Hulk 360: ~5/10
Okami: 4/10
Bioshock PS3: 2/10
Wall-E Wii: ~3/10
Mario & Sonic Olympics: 2/10
Universe At War: ~8/10
Lego Batman Wii: ~2/10
TWEWY: 2/10
Hitman Blood Money: ~2/10
Brain Age 2: 0/10
Fire Emblem DS: 0/10
Condemned 2: ~5/10
Spiderman FoF (POG - ie, disc-only): 1/10
Lost Odyssey: 1/10
De Blob: ~5/10
Spiderman Web of Shadows DS: 2/10

My Blockbuster is telling me the sale is on Saturday from 8 am - noon for their friends and family July 4th special. Was there earlier and picked up Ninja Gaiden for the DS for Ehh??? On the phone with them now, and employees are contacting their manager.

Now having an argument with the employee who is saying that I'm wrong...ok...I'm going to the store and asking to speak to the manager. :hot:

just go to the store and pick up the games you want and check out. you dont even have to tell them about the promo.. it rings up automatically after they press total. if it doesn't just say politely you changed your mind

Anyone looking for Okami? I saw a couple posts from CAGers looking for a copy, so I snagged one today. I'm looking for pretty much anything from the GS Fight Night 4 swap (except for Folklore). Send me a PM if you want to trade.

Hit up 2 Blockbusters again today and PIcked up House of the Dead 2&3 (Wii), Incredible Hulk (360), Iron Man (360), and Devil May Cry 4 (PS3). For some reason I thought DMC4 had a higher TIV at GS :/ Oh well...not a bad haul.
Just for fun, here is the relative availability (that I observed) of the top games on that list (those that get 1.8x or more at GS). I went to 10 stores, so this is how many I saw out of 10. I was at most of these places the first day so I think I saw most of what they had before too many other people bought anything. Of course, this is totally YMMV and in your area it might be completely different. Also, it is from my memory and I wasn't neccesarily looking for some of this stuff (like the Iron Man and Hulks) at first.

GTA IV 360: 0 out of 10 stores
House of the Dead 2 & 3: 1/10
Incredible Hulk Wii: ~3/10
Iron Man 360: ~5/10
Incredible Hulk 360: ~5/10
Okami: 4/10
Bioshock PS3: 2/10
Wall-E Wii: ~3/10
Mario & Sonic Olympics: 2/10
Universe At War: ~8/10
Lego Batman Wii: ~2/10
TWEWY: 2/10
Hitman Blood Money: ~2/10
Brain Age 2: 0/10
Fire Emblem DS: 0/10
Condemned 2: ~5/10
Spiderman FoF (POG - ie, disc-only): 1/10
Lost Odyssey: 1/10
De Blob: ~5/10
Spiderman Web of Shadows DS: 2/10
Endless Ocean: 0/10
Baja: 2/10
I guess I'm lucky then, I keep finding GTA IV everywhere. I haven't found any Okami for Wii or Bioshock for PS3 yet.

hit the bank so far...

60 dollars of trade ins at gamestop (BEFORE the 50% boost). That sucks too because I traded in TONS of games that qualify for the FNrnd4 promo too (total of 30 + games from my collection went to GS in the past month and a half).

Ended up, so far, with

320 Store credit
60 BlazBlue
10 Batman CE pre order
5 Muramasa preorder (for art scroll, if the game is good I will pick the scroll and game up, if not, than I just get my 5 bucks back)

Total of 395.

Thank you BBV, and thank you CAG. This is good because I am in massive debt due to video games, now at least I have some store credit to work with, haha.

Just got back and what a mess....man....I swear.

The employee started to tell me that I was talking about B1G1 and that I was referring to the Saturday sale they were having. I said no, I wanted to get the B1G1. She then argued that we were discussing two different sales. I had the B1G1 flyer in my hand and she said it was Saturday and now she's telling me that I was talking about another sale. Whatever... Needless, say I just wanted to get my free game.

$9.99 for Ninja Gaiden DS (which I bought earlier today) and $9.99 for Smackdown vs. Raw (2008) for free.

Then they wouldn't do it. They proceeded to tell me that the game must be $14.99 and then I can get a free game.

I then read the flier....$14.99 or below. Free game of lesser or equal value. The one employee said she never had to do it before so she doesn't know. The other two then frantically started calling their manager and corporate.

They were trying to explain that I am buying two $9.99 games and that none were $14.99. What the hell????? One lady said that in the past, Blockbuster has said the game must be $14.99 and then you can get the other game free.

They finally get through to corporate and then their manager and then the manager tells them.

Then I spend the next 15 minutes as they try looking for the game in their shelves which they are unable to find. I swear...I didn't think it would take nearly 40-50 minutes just to get my one free frakkin' game.

Found a BBV with two Spiderman WoS cases out, took one up and they said they were out =( Walked around and ended up with Fire Emblem instead, so it wasnt a loss at all. Would have walked out the store without even checking that section.

Today, I got:

Ninja Gaiden II @ 1/2 * $14.99
GTA IV (PS3) @ 1/2 * $14.99
2x BioShock (360) @ 1/2 * $14.99
2x Mercenaries 2 (PS3) @ 1/2 * $9.99

GTA IV had the map, but not the other instruction booklet. It didn't have the original cover. None of the other games had the instructions, and Ninja Gaiden II and both BioShocks were the only two to have original covers. Of those, Ninja Gaiden II was the only one to have the green Xbox box, whereas both BioShocks came in standard Blockbuster boxes.

Ok, here are some quick TIV from GS for some of the BBV B1G1 games. (These are Base+50%... you can do the math backward if you dont have 6 games.) I used io's list. Just confirming TIV as of 30 mins ago:

Tomb Raider Anniversary: 6.75
Incredible Hulk 360: 12.75
Ninjatown: 9
Brain Age 2: 10
Viva Pinata: 8.63

Interesting, the exact same thing happened to me today. Two cases for Spiderman, no discs.

However, I did find Bioshock (PS3) and Assassin's Creed (PS3) for $14.99.

I went to a different store today and got...

Spider-man: web of shadows - 360 - 14.99
Bolt - 360 - 14.99

I would ahve bought spidey for that price, figured I could finish bolt fof and then sell it :/

Banned!
Went to trade a techno/ racepro and was informed they couldn't take trades on my account. Earlier in week trade 1 of at a different store on my acct and 1 of each at another store on wives acct.
Tried a different BB abdcwas told comptmuter was down and could not do trades.
Will make a run to another district and see if I'm Corp or just store banned.
Anyone have trade issues today? I'm in central jersey.

Snaps. I'm going to take Blockbuster's take on things and say you probably stole the games you were trading in. It's the only logical explanation.

the lady today rang up eternal sonata at 20 bucks....weird cuz I got it yesterday for 14.99

Anyone else experience this?

Also, I don't know how to shift credit, all racepros, craniums, and tenchus are sold out around me (all 6 stores, sorry guys)

Anyone have any other viable options, I don't care if I loose a couple dollars in the transfer.

Is this deal national? I went to my local Blockbuster and checked out their games.

I saw De Blob (Wii) marked at $19.99 and Quantum of Solace (360) marked at $24.99. I went up with both to the register and asked them to scan it for price verification. The cashier confirmed the prices of both, though I didn't get to look at the register, so I'll just have to take his word for it. He scanned the UPC codes on the back of the box.

What gives?

Karma!
I was looking for 2 games to pair up with Folklore to do a third fight night deal. Not being able to trade today I didn't get anything. I'll pm some games I'm looking for later. At work now.

LOL@ Cranium Bukkake TIV at $16.
I haven't traded in a game to BBV for a long time. Time to start it up again I guess. It kinda sucks that not too many games available around here for purchase to trade back in to GS.

I'm sad because I went to the other store closest to me and they had cases for GTAIV and Battlefield: Bad Company but they didn't have the games. Then, I purchased QoS Xbox 360, Da Blob Wii, Frontlines: Fuels of War, and Samba Da Amiga but forgot to have them ring them up in groups of cheapest ones together so I ended up paying 30 bucks for the four of them instead of 22.

I traded in a Spiderman: WoS Xbox 360, QoS Xbox 360, and Folklore PS3 to get Fight Night Round 4 and I suck at it but I bought it just to keep for about a month just to mess with some co-workers on Xbox Live then probably sell it or trade it for something else. I will probably try to focus on the cheaper games to trade in to GS so I can preorder a few games coming out later this year.
Anyone have any other viable options, I don't care if I loose a couple dollars in the transfer.
Well I'm down wheeling and dealing, and am at 418 in credit at GS (from 140 on tuesday), got the fallout 3 dlc disk pack, lost odyssey, a couple one months (from gta games), and preorders for arkham assylum CE, bioshock 2, and creed 2.

The games that I was flipping from GS to BBV were wheelman (26.99) which gave me either $25 credit for ps3 or $22 for 360, shadow assassin (12.49 or w/e it was) to $15, racepro (17.99) to $19, and there was some other game that is slipping through my mind right now. I'm most likely banned at all BBV around here (but whatever, nothing of value here anyways, I'll just have friends trade for me).

Thank you blockbuster.
