Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Is this deal national? I went to my local Blockbuster and checked out their games.

I saw De Blob (Wii) marked at $19.99 and Quantum of Solace (360) marked at $24.99. I went up with both to the register and asked them to scan it for price verification. The cashier confirmed the prices of both, though I didn't get to look at the register, so I'll just have to take his word for it. He scanned the UPC codes on the back of the box.

What gives?
Scanning ANY barcode for one product will show you everything about a game. New price, used price, trade in price(pretty sure its 100% always the same as used) if we're taking in trade-ins, how many we take and how much, the rating, the category, the part number...etc etc. Out of looking at that page like 10000+ times since 2006, I can tell you I've looked at it wrong a couple times, but it doesn't matter which barcode you scan as long as you read the page right.

Today Haul
Wall-E Wii 11.25 x2
Okami Wii 12.75
Universe at War 360 7.13
Condemned 2 360 6.75
Fear Files 360 6.78
Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise 8.63
Locks Quest (didn't trade this or the second Wally in yet need 4 more to go with these two traded in at different times and then went to another BBV)

Today's total 53.26 spent 27 almost exactly 2:1 on my money.

What games are people flipping back to BBV?
Well I'm down wheeling and dealing, and am at 418 in credit at GS (from 140 on tuesday), got the fallout 3 dlc disk pack, lost odyssey, a couple one months (from gta games), and preorders for arkham assylum CE, bioshock 2, and creed 2.

The games that I was flipping from GS to BBV were wheelman (26.99) which gave me either $25 credit for ps3 or $22 for 360, shadow assassin (12.49 or w/e it was) to $15, racepro (17.99) to $19, and there was some other game that is slipping through my mind right now. I'm most likely banned at all BBV around here (but whatever, nothing of value here anyways, I'll just have friends trade for me).

Thank you blockbuster.
Yeah, these sporadic bannings make me giggle, while infuriating me. I'm banned at three BBVs, all three of them are down the street from another that I'm not banned from. I've learned to get giftcards, then use those at the banned BBVs, retarded company.

If anyone wants to pick up or has an extra 5 dollar complete copy of UT3 for PS3, please PM me.

I'd like to trade mercenaries 2 for it if possible. Thanks guys.

so....blockbuster won't let me return these games?
I tried to return games I just bought, they wouldnt let me return.
stupid high school worker. I'm gona try again when the manager is present

if anyone gets bad company and resistance for the ps3, ill buy them and include for shipping + tax. I havn't been able to go out for 2 weeks due to a back injury :insert pity card:. lol but please if anyone see's both or even just bad company. Thanks ahead.

New coupon for GS this week is 20% off Wii games. Trying to find something to transfer more credit back to BB, but not seeing much. Hopefully someone else is having better luck.

My experience is they give a 30-day guarantee that the games will work. If they don't, you can exchange it for the same game (if in stock) or another similar-priced game. Getting BBV to actually take a return involves much more charisma than I can muster.

Compared with Gamestop's "bring it back for any reason" used-game policy, BBV can be a pain.

Finally scored at a Blockbuster.

Bioshock PS3
Spider-Man Web of Shadows 360
Quantum Solace 360 x2

This place was pretty stacked on Spider-Man and Quantum (mostly 360, but I can check). Really wish I would have found Bioshock for 360.

I'm not really into DMC4 for the 360 so far. If anyone wants to trade for something in similar value PM and we can work something out.
Cranium Kabookii
GS $9.10 ---> BBV $16.00 :lol:
I tried to trade in cranium kabooki at BBV
but they say it's not in their system so they cannot take it.

Yeah, generally you can't on used stuff. That's why I err on the side of being cautious (and thus missed some great stuff to trade to GS - oh well). I'm friendly enough with the people at my local store that I could probably make up some reason and maybe, perhaps, exchange a game or two - as long as I buy something else that costs the same amount. But I really try not to go that route unless absolutely necessary. Are you sure you can't at least break-even on whatever it is by trading it to GS?

Resistance will be a tough one - I haven't seen that at all at 10 stores. I think the rare sightings of that are probably from GR stores where they get more trade-ins. It isn't a common rental-conversion game that's for sure (unlike, say, QoS, Spiderman WoS, Okami, De Blob, etc that people are finding all over the place).

Same thing happened to me with Race Pro.

I'm making much more at Gamestop trading in those disc-only $2.99 PS2 games than Wii, PS3, 360 games. They are Buy 1 Get 1 Free, making them $1.50 a game. I grabbed the ones that are worth $3-8 base. Stuff like God of War II, Guitar Hero 80s, etc. Will post updated trade-in values to the Gamestop thread tomorrow.

I just traded both in today, maybe they didn't know what they were doing.
Is this YMMV? My nearest BB had no idea what I was talking about...But they have had this sale in the past.
Corporate stores.

A lot of the Blockbusters I went to had no idea about it. At one, when he rang up the items, he just kept staring at the screen with a shocked face. So pretty much if they don't know about it, you can check by taking some games up to the counter, as the sale rings up automatically.

Yeah, but c'mon - how many stores are really going to have the $3-$8 base stuff left at this point? I only see a handful of the 360 and Wii POGs these days and almost none of the PS2 at all. Besides, I think I bought all the $5-$8 ones back when they first showed up anyway ;). But really they didn't send that many to these parts - only a handful of stores got anything.

As for all these people not getting the promo. I can confirm that it is indeed automatic like in the past. I was worried for a bit because at a few stores they scanned something but for whatever reason they have a bar code and it works automatically, which is unusual. So just bring up 2 things that you know are $14.99 or under (from the list in the OP - just make sure you get the right game for the right system!) and they ought to ring up with one of them being free. If not, just say you forgot your cash or something ;).

Which brings me around again to the question I asked of the BBV people yesterday. If a store is shutting down do they (and can they) opt out of these promos? I went to one store that was well-stocked but they said they weren't doing the B1G1 but were doing 20% off instead. Well, since that is way worse than 50% off I didn't want to do that. The problem is I asked about it in advance so I didn't then want to try to have them ring it up and then say I didn't want it if the B1G1 didn't activate. They seemed pretty sure it wouldn't. But it would be awesome if I could get the 20% and then B1G1! If I can get back up there again I might just try it though.

Seriously, look for a sign stating the policy in BBV, and it probably says you can get a full refund on used and unopened new. people just never read the sign.

anyway, i used to work at BBV til last October, and they had a whole bunch of games. i went there and it was barebones, almost nothing really. i guess they were probably losing money on them because they never sold any of the used games, they just sat til they were dirt cheap.

i got
the club-360-9.99
army of two-360-14.99
Lost Planet-360-9.99
Lock's Quest-NDS-9.99

Not bad. but still a pretty lame selection after what they used to have.

Yeah, they sent a lot of it away with the new games in April (supposedly to some liquidator - I wonder whatever happened to all that stuff?). At that time they sent 95% of the new stuff back along with most of the trade-in games. They generally kept the rental conversions around though, and that's what we are buying now for the most part. But it is really hit-or-miss. My local store had no more than about 30 total used games when this sale started. But I've been to others with a few hundred. None of these are GR stores either.
Same thing happened to me with Race Pro.
I also was able to trade that in (twice) on Thursday.
Corporate stores.

Some stores scan a special bar code taped to the monitor after every pair. I want to point out that they're just creating more work for themselves and that the computer handles the B1G1 automatically, but I'm afraid I'd come off as just another jerk know-it-all customer.

My patience runs out when CSRs don't know how to handle trade-ins, though. One store told me there's only one guy authorized to handle trades for the store, and "he's working today at 4 if you want to come back."

The CAGs who post here and work at BBV give me comfort that there ARE smart, courteous people working there. I just tend to remember the blank-stare employees. :)

Here's the corporate return policy:

"BLOCKBUSTER® will refund your purchase of any new merchandise (except food items) appearing in its unopened original packaging anytime, provided you have the original receipt. BLOCKBUSTER will refund the purchase price of any defective or mislabeled products returned within 30 days, provided you have the original receipt. Refunds for purchases made with a charge card will be credited to the same charge card. Refunds for purchases by cash or check will be given in cash. Please allow 7 business days to process refunds for payment made by check. This Return Policy is not applicable to products/services specifically marked with a different return policy."

Basically, unless it's mislabled or defective, you cannot return a used item. That's why if you want to return a game, you have to tell them that it doesn't work.

I can answer that question:
The B1G1 won't stack with the 20%.
I got a copy of Fire Emblem and Folklore at a BBV which is shutting down next month and I only got 20% off instead of B1G1.
Glad I can help once in a while...:lol:

I picked up two more games from this sale tonight, mainly so I could give them to a buddy of mine so we can play them co-op some night, since I have the same ones for my own PS3.

I picked up GTA IV and Mercenaries 2 for $15.89 total tonight.

I also noticed a price change that may have been an error, but adds another game to this sale if it was/is correct.

007: Quantum Of Solace(PS3)-$14.99

I think some others mentioned it was still coming up as either $19.99 or $24.99 at their stores.

Cabelas Big Game Hunter Wii and Cabalas Dangerous Hunts 2009 Wii are both 9.99 this week. I think these are for new copies, so the 20% off coupon and EDGE wont work, but they could still be decent flips. Especially the 2009 one.

Some stores scan a special bar code taped to the monitor after every pair. I want to point out that they're just creating more work for themselves and that the computer handles the B1G1 automatically, but I'm afraid I'd come off as just another jerk know-it-all customer.
They're either going to hit the total button twice after each pair, or scan a barcode. The computer won't make it free till you hit total and if you wait till the end it'll obvious screw up and give you the cheap ones free so either way it seems pretty much the same to me.

Eh, I still dislike handling trades because if anything is wrong or I mess up, it's my fault, and I rather have a manager going "yes, that looks good" or "no, we can't accept that, it looks too scratched". Nowadays I usually do it myself but even at my worse I would just pawn it off on the manager on duty, not telling someone to come back later lol. Except one kid that wanted to trade in this ratty GBA without a box and not even the backplate for the batteries. We just told him we don't do hardware(which is true anyway), try the other blockbuster. ;)

I know that feeling. At another BBV today, I asked about the special on used games and the guy gave me a whole spiel on how they haven't had a used game special in awhile and so on. After that, I didn't even bother asking him to scan them and went on my way.

I think a better metric of how good a flip is would be total dollars made. It isn't really worth your time flipping a $2 game for $4.

What? When you're dealing with mass flips, every bit helps. There's only so many copies of GTA IV and Mario & Sonic that can be traded in before people become suspicious, ya know?

Before heading to a few other BBV I hadn't been to, I stopped by a local Gamestop and picked up a copy of Race Pro, Cranium Kabooki, and Monster Jam w/ my store credit. I also accidentally got a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog for PS3 thinking it was Sonic Unleashed, but it seems the cashier didn't ring it up, so I wasn't charged for it. I didn't realize this until after I had traded them in. With those games and a copy of Need For Speed: Undercover I got from target, I ended up with $65 in BBV.

Stopped by 3 BBV I hadn't been to in the Lake Forest area and 3 in the Irvine & Costa Mesa area that had decent collections a few days ago. Ended up with:

360:
-Baja: Edge of Control
-Guitar Hero 2
-Bioshock
-Incredible Hulk
-QoS x2
-GTA IV
-Dirt

Wii:
-De Blob
-Wall-E

PS3:
-Ninja Gaiden Sigma
-GTA IV

The one on Harbor Blvd in Costa Mesa was the only one I went to that still had a pretty good collection; saw at least 5 copies each of GTA IV for both 360 & PS3 left. Had to use some of my own cash on a few purchases, but I wanted to keep a few of the games and get a copy of FNR4 at gamestop so it worked out ok.

Going off of what KOG just said..it would be especially helpful to get your total up to 6 games to trade in. If you can only find 5 big flips, might as well get a small flip game just to bring the total to 6.

OK. Please post that list using your better metric. ;) (BTW, a good way to look like a CAG in Training is to walk into a thread and try and poke holes in IO's work.)

Exactly. As IO pointed out, you have to get to six somehow, and common fodder such as Universe at War are perfect for that.

Here's some more stuff I encountered while repricing all of our games tonight.

Red indicates that the TIV is old and needs confirmation.

X360-
Battlefield: Bad Company $7.50->$10.50
Hot Wheels Beat That $7.50->$10.50
Burnout Paradise $7.50->$10.50

Wii-
Spiderman: WoS $7.50->$9

PS3-
Wall-E $7.50->$12

NDS-
Ninja Gaiden: DS $5.00>$6.38
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time $7.50->$10.50 Darkness should be $14.99 at BBV too.

PSP-
Manhunt 2 $5.00->$12
Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes $5.00->???

PS2-
Spiderman: FoF $5.00->$8.25
Spongebob Featuring Nicktoons Globs of Doom $7.50->???

And now, I'm off to bed because I have to open the store tomorrow after closing it today. Life's great :).

Uh, yeah, it's pretty clear which ones are the big dollar flips (the $7.50 games that get you a high ratio). But if you are trying to round out a 6-game trade you might as well buy the cheaper stuff that gets a higher ratio. You might make a dollar or two less vs some other game but you will be spending much less to get it.

I just wish I had this list when I was scouring 9 stores on Tuesday. I haevn't been out again since I made the list .

Darkrider - I actually was wondering about many of those same games but without there being good quotes from GS I didn't want to add them to the list. Coraline for the Wii is another I want to find out about. I assign all "CAGs in training" to call GS and get trade-in quotes for at least one of these games!

007 PS3 is still 19.99 in the system. A lot of stores, including mine, mislabeled theirs because they were going off of the 360 version price of the game. The employee will have to manually adjust the price then manually credit the amount for the free game price if it's mislabeled 14.99. I did this myself with this game, because I saw they had theirs mislabeled.

I scored -

PS3
-----
Army of Two - 14.99
Blitz II the league - free
Monster Madness: Grave Danger - 9.99
Mercenaries 3 W.I.F. - free
Unreal Tournament 3 - 9.99
Viking - Free

Xbox 360
----------
Virtua Fighter Online - 9.99
Sgea Rally Revo - free

Wii
---
spyro - free

NDS
-----
Iron Man - 9.99
Viva Pinata Pocket Paradise- free
Madden 09 - 9.99

Now I just need to calculate what the flip at gamestop would be if I traded all of them with the extra 50% (40% power trade + 10% edge)
went to the blockbuster in Gardena, CA looking for GTA 4 and Bioshock but all they had was crap
The Gardena BBV is easily one of the worst in the SoCal area. I don't even bother going there unless it's to trade games in (haven't been there since Dec 08 ).

I hadn't realized that Iron Man and Incredible Hulk were good flips. I passed on a House of the Dead 2/3 and TWEWY because I didn't have anything good to pair them with. Of course, both of those BBV had Iron Man in stock.

Thanks for the lists, IO. It looks like you're happy that this thread has been brought back to life. :)

I bought this yesterday for $9.99 but noticed there are price differences between those with or without covers. I was able to find it with a cover and manual. Is this without the cover/manual?
I'd like confirmation of the dates on those. But if Crash of the Titans is correct, it makes it the 7th best trade-in along with Bioshock for PS3. Problem is, I think I may have seen just one and I'm not even sure of that.
Those TIVs are from 7/1/09.

Only odd thing I see about crash is the on the receipt it says crash of the titans '07. That 07 part is only on the GBA title on EB website. Though it does say wii on my receipt, so I guess it's just how it is.

Odd to see a year added to something that isn't a sports game.

What about x-blades for the ps3? It could be an almost decent flip from GS->BBV like Wheelman ps3.
