Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I ended up picking up Haze and Mercs 2 both on ps3.. Figured with the B1G1 sale it was worth it, and when im done I can just trade them in and make an extra $5-$10

i picked up mass effect and gh 2 to play =)... what other games are worth checkin out from this sale for 360? i already scooped up ninja gaiden 2 and spiderman wos
The final haul after scouring five different stores along Long Island. In one place the guy working there had no idea there was a sale despite the sign, but he was cool about it. He said they hardly get any video game sales even one week into it, and he was right there were like 100+ games still in bins. All of these games are going into my library:

:360: Guitar Hero 3 $10
:360: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith $10
:ps3: Madden 08 $10
:ps3: MLB 08 $10
:ps3: Oblivion $15

:ps3: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune $20 (got bioshock for free with it)
:ps3: F.E.A.R. $10
:ps3: The Club $10

Thanks to the CAG who posted this deal!
damn. really got nothing better to do?
It's disappointing that this thread was about people getting great deals on games they wanted and now it's just a making money flip thread. All it does is take cheap game deals and give them to stores to jack up and screw people who wanted the game cheap at their BB.

I guess I'm the minority in thinking this though.
Were you looking for a fresh copy of Wall E or perhaps a copy of Iron man or Incredible Hulk maybe Universe at War. Most of the games I flipped I doubt have a very large following. I have flipped a couple of games folks are after (Okami, TWEWY,Folklore,Bioshock PS3) but most of the games were surprisingly craptastic. And for my part I left a good amount of those games on the shelf becuase they didn't have instuctions in alot of places. So while I understand a little most of my flips were not top teir games.
GOOD NEWS - Tenchu Shadow Assassin dropped down to 17.99, so with EDGE and Discount its 12.59->15. Thank god theres 1 more flip to add back to the list (assuming BBV didn't lower the TIV)

I have a couple titles to add to the possible GS->BBV flips.

Madworld and House of the Dead overkill dropped back down to 26.99 at GS. With coupon and EDGE they are a little under $19.

Game Party II dropped down to $12.99

Deadly Creatures dropped to $17.99

Trivial Pursuit dropped to $17.99

I'm going to sleep right now, so I wont be able to check on the BBV TIVs until late tonight.
Just called about some of these:

Madworld and HOD:Overkill trade for a craptacular $10.
Game Party 2 trades for $4.

Hit up the Blockbuster in my old, farm community, hometown while visiting family over the 4th. They had some titles I hadn't seen at urban BBusters. Almost all games had the original cases and instructions.

I scored Resistance: Fall of Man & C&C3: Kane's Wrath (360) for a total of $15!

Now, assuming BBV TIVs still change on Mondays, I guess we need to figure out if Race Pro 360 and Tenchu: Shadow Assassins held or not.

On an unrelated note, I might need to pick up a PS3 copy of Trivial Pursuit to keep next time there's a PS3 coupon.

If you just want to know what 360 titles $14.99 and under may or may not be available at your local stores, io has a list in the first post. If you're looking for recommendations, I'd say Dark Sector ($6.99), Beautiful Katamari, Crackdown, Lost Planet (all $9.99), Quantum of Solace, Battlefield Bad Company, Bioshock, Bourne Conspiracy, Burnout Paradise, The Lego games (all $14.99), just to name a few. Granted, it'll be pretty hit or miss trying to find some of those, since some have been cheap for a while (including during previous B1G1 sales).

Yeah, no problem. I think Burnout was that price during the last B1G1, if I'm not mistaken. I played QoS on a rental and really enjoyed it, but since it'd end up really being $7.50, I'd whole-heartedly recommend it. Bad Company is a lot of fun too. Good luck.

nkerman, I want to thank you too. I know there are threads for reviews on CAG but sometimes, I wish people would offer brief recommendations are certain games that are repeatedly discussed in the thread. For example, QOS in this thread. I'm also really curious whether CAGS really enjoy FN4 that much more than FN3. Anyway, I'm keeping a QoS to play.

If you start playing QoS today, you'll be finished with it before the 14th to trade it in with this deal. Unless there's a big online community (doubtful), it's a rental-type title.

The promo ends on the 12th.

Did Mirror's Edge, Madden 09, and NCAA 09 (all 360) drop in price today at BBV and did kabookii (wii) and race pro (360) TIV's hold at BBV? What is the deal with Tenchu (? platform) for TIV back to BBV???

No price drops that make game eligible for the B1G1 except Madden 2009 for PSP and some other non-profitable PSP game that most stores probably don't have.

Hey DarkRider23,
Could you check the TIV for Matt Hazard?
My BBV is still closed.

Thanks

I keep seeing mentions here and there of the store locator. Is there anyway to check on the site as to what used games they have in stock, like GS?
Eat Lead: the Return of Matt Hazard is on sale for $10 at BestBuy.
This might be a good flip.
Does anyone have the TIV?
Was that price in the ad or a reward zone special price?

Nope, they're just talking about finding a store (it wasn't working the past few days).
Was that price in the ad or a reward zone special price?
It's one of those automatic-with-gamers-club-reward-zone promos. $30 - automagic $20 off (and its the PS3 version only).

EDIT: whoops... it actually requires a coupon.... hope nobody ran on to Best Buy on my word alone. Coupon for Matt Hazard is here:

Probably not, and if they do have one, I wouldn't trust it's accuracy. And no, I'm not finding anything online so far unless it's dug deep. With as many people having problem with their BBV even having the game disc behind the counter to go with the display, I'd go in store anyway. My store we only do that for ps3 games and even then we keep them in regular cases with the used stickers on them, we stopped using the slips or big cd/dvd folders awhile ago because they're really unreliable, but it seems a good number of stores aren't doing too hot(lol how many spiderman WoS have people looked for now and have not been found? I've read that specific title so many times)

There is no online locator for BBV. BBV isn't THAT advanced guys... Hell, its systems aren't advanced at all.

@Vortex - My store is a fucking mess with the discs behind the counter. I just found 8 games that didn't have display boxes at all. I'm pretty sure there are more, but I didn't feel like looking anymore. I keep trying to tell my SM better ways to keep his used games organized, but he won't listen. No one does. Sucks for him.

As for the Eat Lead TIV, give me about an hour or two. I'll be back with it then...

Thanks DarkRider23
I just checked with my local BBV, :360: Return of Matt Hazard trades in for $17, forgot to ask about the :ps3: version....
So $10 BB --> $17 BBV credit, which is not bad.

Lol that sucks. I'm not sure if it's nation wide, but we received some cardboard cutouts that make boxes and a crapload of those little slips you put dvds in(like lost odyssey's notorious 4th disc). The DM told us we were supposed to put rentals in there from now on and hopefully hasn't noticed that a month later we aren't. It's freaking ridiculous to keep 300 game rentals in slip covers that you can only tell what they are BY PULLING EACH ONE OUT AND PRAYING THEY'RE ALPHABETICAL. And it's even dumber that they asked us to do this since we already have the big metal drawers and craploads of extra cases, so we're not saving any money, especially when they continue to send the rentals in more cases anyway.
Eat Lead: the Return of Matt Hazard is on sale for $10 at BestBuy.
This might be a good flip.
Does anyone have the TIV?
Where did you see this, it's 29.99 online

Baja
Hulk
Iron Man

all took pretty big hits at GS trade in so watch out if you looking just to flip to GS. Still profitable, but not as much.
17 is the trade in value before or after bonuses? And what about the 360 version?
It trades in for $17 at BBV, and the :ps3: version is on sale at Bestbuy for $10.

These TIVs held at BBV:

Tenchu: Shadow Assassins (Wii) - $15
Race Pro (360) - $19

And out of curiosity, who is the other CAG operating in Denton, TX? I just left the Golden Triangle Mall Gamestop where they had just sold their last used Race Pro this morning.

Hmm not sure if it was just me but one BBV I went to was selling B1G1 on all used games. I scored SF4 and KZ2 for 44.99. Got COD 2 and COD 3 for 9.99. Few more good titles there but skipped out on them.

This one was BBV by Durango in Las Vegas.

Ok i don't get this what are the prices of these games at gamestop is this a flip thing going on? Also "who is the other CAG operating in Denton" sounds so secret agent like. Like CAGS are like Jason Bourne or Jack Bower of deals...lol but I feel what you mean when I miss some oddball game I think in the back of my mind it must be a CAG!!!
Budz, we printed out the transfers(to other stores, and to used) last night when I worked to prep them for the sunday morning guy so it would be easier on him. I saw just a couple game reprices and the only rental -> used on games I saw was 360 ninja gaiden and...something on the wii, I forget. Again, you only see what is based off on your inventory but all stores game inventory is getting pretty small. Only really big stores have many more rentals than us, most are probably in the same boat.
Thanks for the info. Might still be worth checking out tomorrow as several of the bbv's in my area have a large selection and the main district store is about 15 minutes away and has a huge selection of rental games.

Yup the big store might not be bad. Now that we can actually look at other store's inventories, for most game rentals every other store will fall in line with us(+/-1) but one or two stores will have like 10 rentals when the average is around 3-4. Places like that will definitely be transferring a lot more down as the titles get older and rented less.

just saw scene it box office smash game only for xbox360 for $15 used by work during lunch.... don't see it listed in the first post... was the first time i saw it anywhere so likely rare

i already have it so i passed

Yes, they are flips (sort of). Really just more of a break-even. Buying them at Gamestop (presumably with store credit) and then trading them in to BBV for roughly the same amount they cost at GS. Its just a way to transfer from credit from GS -> BBV so that you can then take advantage of BBV's B1G1 in order to profit some when trading the games from BBV -> GS. Race Pro is $19.99 used at Gamestop and Tenchu: Shadow Assassins is $17.99 at GS.

And yeah, there is some element of secrecy to the flipping side of things, in a way. Obviously, when we trade Race Pro into BBV store A, we don't want them to know that we're also trading the same game in to BBV store B, and vice versa.

The only reason I ask is that if somebody is buying a used copy of Race Pro this morning, there's a pretty darn good chance that its a CAG who read/contributes to this thread, considering I'd never even heard of the game until it was brought up here. By finding out who it is, I may be able to coordinate info with that person, such as "hey don't bother hitting up store A, b/c I just grabbed the only Race Pro they had"; that kinda thing. No biggie, just figured I'd ask.

Also, somebody might have already mentioned it, but...

Another drop in GS TIV:

Incredible Hulk (Wii): $6

TIVs from Gamestop; all prices are base TIV and current as of today (7/06)

360
Bourne Conspiracy - $7.25
Quantum of Solace - $7.00 (drop was $7.50)
Bioshock - $7.00
Iron Man - $5 (drop was $8.50)

Wii
Incredible Hulk - $6 (drop was $8.75)
De Blob - $5 (drop was $9)
Star Wars: Force Unleashed - $5

PS3
GTA IV - $8.50
Monstar Madness GD- $2

DS
Brain Age 2 - $6.75
Lock's Quest - $5.75

If I buy a game Buy 1 Get 1, can I bring it in to return for cash within 1 day or even the next day?

reason-Little brother already had the games?

First off, you can only exchange for the same title, you cant return for cash, its actually being discussed right now in the GS FNR4 thread.

And second off, I hope you're planning to return both titles.

If you brought it back to me in like, an hour or two, we might hook you up with a refund. With a receipt and both games. Anything past that and you'll have to be charming or get lucky with management. We'll always swap out the game for another if you say it's defective. But with ANY refund/defective item you have to give me the receipt.

First off, second off???

Where's third off???

I know it's being discussed in the FN thred, I'm the one discussing it. It doesn't really belong there though, this is the blockbuster thread.

So first off, second off, blah.

Guitar Hero Aerosmith(wii), Walle (wii), TWEWY DS all held at Gamestop.
I think I'm done now due to these drops. Will return the scratched up Hulk I got last night, I'm afraid to even put it in my Xbox to try it out.

Side note.
Had good customer service at Gamestop!!!
Told the girl I was looking for Punchout used this week due to the coupon. She said it's tough to find but she can look to see if it's around. She just called me and said she was able to get a copy transfered to her store by Wednesday for me. Wow, usually the guys that work there hate me, not sure it's because my credit is usually higher than their paycheck or my kids trashing the store.

I also have an extra TWEWY DS if someone is looking to trade. PM me.

It might not be that helpful considering I can't post anythig for like...8 hours, but if anyone wants me to gather some TiV's, let me know now? Looking up a handful of specifics won't take time, but I don't really have the stamina to sit there checking every game in our database lol. I am working tonight, even if we don't close till 12 cause BBV is insane and we have like 2 straight hours of no business, so checking through everything is a bit much. Anyway...
