Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I saw and passed on We Ski for Wii for 14.99 tonight.

edit: Also saw Raving Rabbids for 360 for 9.99. If the $6 listed GS TIV holds its almost a 2 for 1.
15 each. With the Wii coupon you make a couple bucks flipping it.

Edit: Oh wait, nevermind, I just looked over my receipts from the day. Looks like I went to three gamestops and bought 3 $17.99 games and then I went to 3 Blockbusters and traded them each in for $5 a piece.

A small loss to move some credit back.

$38 + tax ---> $15 would be more than a small loss, ouch...
Yeah, what is going on? Is MLB 2K9 $5 or $15 TIV at BBV? There is one nearby where I'm at for work now but I have a very limited time this evening with the car to myself (cheapass company making us share a car this time :bomb:) and certainly don't want to waste it on a $12.59 ($17.99 - 30% for coupon + Edge) -> $5 flip.
Hey now, leave me out of that. I still have my HD copy of that game to watch to my hearts content. Rock chalk!!!!
No championships for this Iowa State fan to watch in HD unfortunately. I just have to re-live the past, that is starting to be too distant because we've sucked for a while now. But hey, when I was there we beat KU 5 times in a row and won a couple of Big 12 championships.

Something awesome happened to me. I was able to find GTA VI (14.99), Bully Scholarship Edition (14.99), Incredible Hulk (9.99), and Merc 2 (9.99) at my local BBV. As the worker scanned rang up the games, I received the two 9.99 games for free. So my total was a little over $30. Instead, I told her to make two separate transactions for the 2 14.99 game and 2 9.99 game, making my overall total $25. A long line began to form behind me as she struggled to override the transaction. She was fed up and just charged me $14.99+tax for all 4 games. Sweetness.

Last night, I took out the 4 $14.99 games I got and said, "Can you scan these and give me the total?". After that I said she could scan the other 4 $9.99 games I had.

The Manager at one of mine actually checks the prices first and then rings them up to give me the best deal. He's a pretty cool guy and is always extremely helpful.

amazon's trade in of the day is uncharted which will get you $29.50 and bbv has it for $19.99. i think i'll trade in uncharted and star ocean (tiv of $22.50) to take advantage of the amazon deal.

Alright asshole question here, how many copies can we trade into Amazon? I think the statutes of limitation have passed on that one as far as cags hearing about the deal and buying that game. And when asking this question I'm probably only going to buy 2-3.

I traded in 7 copies of Lego Indiana Jones PSP, didn't have a problem. :)

I was being sarcastic because someone asked if I got $15 each for $15 for all three I traded. It would have just taken 2 seconds to think and wonder why a person would drive to 6 stores (3 GS and 3 BBV) to lose that much credit. I might as well have saved some time and paid $60 cash for Fight Night Round 4 at GS and trade it into BBV for $25 right after if I wanted to lose money quickly for BBV credit.

Just so there's no confusion, the Trade in Value at Blockbuster Video Store for Major League Baseball 2k9 for the Nintendo Wii is $15 a piece in store credit.;)

I'm not the one who found this flip either. It was mentioned a few pages back.

Since I started this, I may as well keep going:

Sonic - Well, I figured but you never can be too sure and I have very little time to waste while I'm here. I'll have a car for about 1 1/2 hours of running around this evening and that's all I get all week. So I need to plan hitting up a couple GS stores with multiple items and trying my luck at finding an Uncharted at 1 or 2 BBVs.

I looked back quite a ways, too, and saw mention of the 360 version. I thought the Wii was listed but your follow-up threw me off ;).

Made another trip today..but didnt have much on me to spend. Theres a few more titles at the stores I'd love to grab before this sale ends, but I dont think its gonna happen.

Got these today:

Turok (360) $9.99
The Club (360) free
Facebreaker (360) $9.99
Timeshift (360) free
Dark Sector (360) $7.99
Condemned 2 (360) free

Sry io. I apologize for being confusing and acting a fool. I really shouldn't make forum posts when I'm on the brink of passing out from exhaustion and/or random drunkedness. Good luck with your business trip and finding games. I'm off to try to find a copy or two of uncharted and probably the GHWT band kit.

I'm pissed I shelled out the full $189.99 for the GHWT band kit :bomb:. Despite all my trade-in shenanigans over the years, GS still manages to beat me - the bastards ;).

(Spent $190 on GHWT band kit, barely played it. Spent $40 on Chrono Trigger, haven't opened it)

Even though you've barely played it, what are your opinions on the quality of the drums and Guitar? I already bought the game and I already have RB1 instruments. I was just going to spend the $90 in credit to upgrade my instruments but it might not even be worth $90 to me.

Also, are the drums wireless?

Ahh - great idea. Thanks for the tip!

I'm also going to go on a hunt for Uncharted - I need amazon credit to go along with my 50% off coupon.

Just like the old days with all these viable flips back to Blockbuster. Looking foward to getting some of this GS credit switched back over for another road trip to see what's left.

The drums are definitely wireless and seem much sturdier than the RB drums. My son mostly plays drums so I really can't comment on the quality but I know from other threads that a lot of people like them better than the RB ones. The guitar is nice but the one we got has a really squeaky strum bar which is kind of annoying. I've heard that complaint from others, but I'm sure it is YMMV.

I'm tempted to get a PS3 set but I really really really don't need any more plastic instruments. I bought the PS3 RB1 set from BBV for $55 and also have a couple of guitars from GH Aero and GH III. And I will be getting the Beatles RB set for 360 later (to go along with the 3 guitars and 2 drum sets we already have for the 360!). Plus I have an extra wired 360 guitar (GS promo) and a PS3 GH Aero set still sealed ($8 at Sears). It's all a bit much...

Thanks for the help. I'll probably buy it if I can return 2 or 3 more FNR4s today.

Yeah, thats a lot of plastic instruments. I thought I had too much with 6 guitars and 1 drum set. You basically have to get the beatles band kit tho, but I guess it all depends on if you feel like burning some of that new GS credit today.

Well, of course the other problem I have is that I'm 2500 miles from home and the GHWT band kit doesn't fit well in my suitcase ;). So that may decide it for me - doubt there will be many left back home by Saturday.

hey guys I don't know if you have had trouble with flipping to get the fight night deal there were other's on the thread informing that All fight nights are now gutted (to prevent the gift receipt switcheroo)

I hate to do this, but I have a general question about returns. If I buy a game from one location, can it be returned to another store? Both stores are running the sale. Basically, I'm looking to exchange a copy of Iron-Man Wii for anything on the FNR4 list. The store I got Iron-Man from only had one game from the list, which I purchased alongside with Iron-Man. Sorry for the noobie question.

The one I just got this afternoon was sealed.

What day of the week does BBV reduce their TIV prices now? Is it still monday or has it changed?

I just want to buy wheelman and Bionic commando, play them, and then trade them in before their values drop.

Possible flip...

1.Singstar Vol 1 PS3 $17.99/19.99 @GS
2.mics used @GS price or get in TRU clearance bundle with a game?
3.Singstar Vol 1 bundle TIV BBV $36
Depends on what BBV wants when you trade it in, do they need to scan the bundle box?

I seriously think you guys are way over-playing the difficulty in returning FN4. It seems like many of the people referencing this problem, indicate that they talk about flipping with the employees or are friends who have likely mentioned something about flipping to their managers. I've had absolutely no issue other than the occasional employee having difficulty putting it back on my edge card as opposed to giving me a gift card.

Back on topic, even with the new flips, most of my BBVs are drained of anything worthwhile. I think I have two more 6 game flips in me and then I'm done.

yeah BBV is pretty dry after selling their stock of new/used to a liquidator.

I'm more interested in flips to amazon now. Amazons trade of the day plus Gamestops B2G1 is probably worth waiting for. Im also holding on to some wii games in hopes of another good amazon promo after the current one expires.

For those of you who think flipping is a waste of time, I just found out today (some reading this may also not know this) that the trade money put on you GS card can buy ANY items in the store TAX FREE. I realize many of you probably already knew this, but I have read well over 500 pages at this site and have yet to come across this fact. In just a weeks time, with the different trade-ins I have made, and subsequent purchases, I have saved almost $50 in tax. Just another reason why flipping to earn store credit isn't so stupid. Again this post is intended for newbies lilke myself.

People talk about this from time to time, but it's really YMMV depending on what state you live in. Some states (like Oklahoma) still charge tax when using credit.
