Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
awesome, thanks

i saw a cranium kabooki there too, hope its there in the morning
didn't know about that crazy amount of TIV at GS
You have it backwards.

The Kabooki is worth $16 at BBv not Gamestop..

I had great success in getting managers to convert rentals yesterday. I had the day off, took the day off to make BBV runs, and being during the daytime when it's slow many of the managers were on shift and it was slow so they didn't mind entertaining the offer. I got a couple of Pikmin's, Mario & Sonic's, and other games that qualified for the deal that would have otherwise seen me walk out empty handed.
No, no, no, no, seriously dude, no. It has a $16 TIV at BBV. I would feel so bad if u bought Kabookkake at BBV and traded it into GS. Flipping from BBV to BBV or GS to GS is severely frowned upon here, but Cranium (insert disgusting sexual act here) is a long running BBV Thread tradition.
oh ok ill edit my post so people dont get the wrong idea

so you're telling me i can buy it at BBV for $3.50 and trade it back in to them for $16? how stupid can they be? thats pretty bad

Cranium Bukkkkake x2 (yeah, I can confirm they still have $16 TIV) Everytime I find one, I have a little party in my head because I know it's an instant $3.50->$16. When I find a copy, I hope the BBV employees don't hear me say "Bukkakeeee!" in an uncontrollable fit of excitement.

LOL on this! That's what goes on in my head when I find one. Bukkkkaakkkeeee!:bouncy:

Anyhow, I'm pretty satisfied so far by just going to 3 stores over the past week:

Zelda PH, complete, $14.99
Onechabara Wii and 360, complete, $9.99
Pikimin, complete, $14.99
Spongebob: globs o' doom Wii, complete, $14.99
Cranium Kabooki x2, $6.99
Armored Core 4 PS3, missing manual, $9.99

MGS4 guides x2, no wrap but in excellent condition, $0.01
SW:TFU guides x2, slightly bent covers, $0.01

TIV to confirm again, $16 for Cranium as of yesterday. Going to trade in another today sometime.

I'll probably hit a couple more this weekend but if I don't find anything else, I'll be happy with my haul. My main goal was to find one MGS4 guide which is done. I can't even get by the initial mission w/o getting killed.

I visited two BBV yesterday. Both were limited on PS3 game selection, but I managed to snag a few good titles.

GTA IV - 14.99
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - 9.99
The Darkness w/manual - 9.99
Unreal Tournament 3 w/manual - 9.99

I was also interested in The World Ends with You for DS, which they had for 9.99, but I couldn't find anything good to pair it with.

I also saw MGS4 for 24.99, so it didn't qualify for the deal, but its a little cheaper than Gamestop if anyone was looking to pick it up.

I was looking at the list of $14.99 and under games on the first page and noticed several were missing. Here are some prices I paid recently:

Final Fantasy III DS - $6.99
Zack & Wiki - $6.99 (updated price)
Star Ocean: Second Evolution - $14.99
Mirror's Edge 360 $14.99

I'm not sure if there's a reason why these aren't listed, but I figured I'd give a heads up just in case.

Just want some confirmation on the games that are decent flips from GS to BBV.

Cranium Kabookii (Wii) - 9.99 (14.99 new) -> $16 TIV
Race Pro (360) - 19.99 -> $15 TIV
Rock Revolution (360/PS3) -> 4.49/3.99 (5.00 new) -> $4 TIV

Are these correct? I'm not sure which version of Rock Revolution gets the $4 TIV, and I'm not sure if I have the right racing game for the 360. Anyway, a GS near me has a used and new version of Cranium, a used Race Pro and new copies of both RRs. I want to move some GS credit over to BBV, but I'd like to get confirmation on these games before doing so. Thanks in advance.

I had a copy of Heavenly Sword price checked and the guy told me $14.99, so I added it to my stack. When he actually rang me up, however, it rang up $19.99, so he manually gave me a $19.99 credit to make that game free. Either he read the price check wrong or a price drop is coming soon.

Hi all the store at 5441 Clayton Rd, Clayton, CA has a butt load of games, they are so backed up they have not put up the signs for the sale yet. If you ask the for a list of used games they have in stock they will give it to you and pull the games that you want. AND THEY HAD A LOT YESTERDAY.

I called 5 different stores in my area, and something interesting of note. 3 of them are doing the B1G1 sale. One, wasn't sure (I guess she's new or came back from vacation or something). The last one has a sale, but it's 50% of ALL games. I expect that one to be a YMMV, but might be worth mentioning just in case.

The B1G1 sale is for corporate owned BBV stores, so those two that weren't doing it or weren't sure might be franchised.

Got Boom Blox and De blob $14.99 B1G1 and Pikmin and Ninja gaiden 2 (360) $14.99 B1G1, at least I got something before the horders got everything ! ( I think a couple of them are on this board)

I had an employee tell me she had some games that she price checked and they came up 14.99 only to then ring up as 19.99. Seems like either future drops, or a glitch in the system, hard to say.

Regarding some stores saying they're not doing the sale: if they are a corporate store, they *are* doing the sale. Its not unlikely for some BBV employees to just not know their heads from their asses regarding what is going on. Again, I repeat, if its corporate, its on.

Regarding price checks not matching up with prices when they are actually rung up: again, it has alot to do with incompetency. When they "look up" an item, they need to make sure they're reading the correct price because its going to list prices for new, used, etc. When ringing up a game, they're supposed to ring up their own BBV used barcode, not the actual game's UPC.

This is all based on my anecdotal experience, I don't work there.

2008 is really similar to the original with a few more "gamey" tweaks. Definitely get the original for $3.50 and prepared to be sucked in. It's a micromanager's dream.

And if you don't like it, Gamestop will be happy to take it off your hands for $4. Can't lose.

Thank you! I haven't had time to keep up with this thread, especially when I don't have enough money to buy anything other than penny guides. Maybe it can be added to the price list in the op.

Went to another store and picked up four more games.

Xbox 360
$6.99
Dark Sector (complete)
Virtua Fighter 5 (no manual)

$9.99
The Bourne Conspiracy (complete)

NDS
$9.99
Lock's Quest (BBV case with coverart, no manual)

Xbox 360
$14.99 2X Grand Theft Auto IV - No manual
$14.99 Mass Effect - Complete
$14.99 Blitz the League II - No case or manual

I think those games are definitely worth it! Very fun.

Infinite Undiscovery - X360 is also $ 14.99.
I found a mint condition that I might have traded to them a while back from Taget clearance. It's definitely not an ex-rental.

I didn't see an official BBV trade thread, so I hope this is the right place to do so. I'm looking to trade the following:

Bioshock 360
Folklore
Mirror's Edge 360
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction (no manual)
Star Ocean: Second Evolution

I'm somewhat interested in Battlefield and Resistance, but I'm mostly after PS3 exclusives (Valkyrie Chronicles, Disgaea 3, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword). PM me if interested! Willing to check lists.
Anyone have a game reccomendation that i can pair with GTA IV?(other than bioshock)
PS3 or Xbox 360? I would suggest any of the following:

Battlefield: Bad Company
Lost Odyssey (360)
Mass Effect (360)
Mirror's Edge
Ratchet & Clank (PS3)
Resistance (PS3)
Star Ocean: Second Evolution (if you have a PSP)

Okay quick question. Are sales on used games from BBV final?

Today when I tried to return a pair I bought, the clerk said, "No, these sales are final."
When I bought the games along with the others I got during this sale, I asked all in this particular store and in other stores about a refund return. All of the answers were yes but I'd have to return both games. After some time of telling them what I was told and mutterings about me being a spoil punk who's not grateful to God that I paid $5 for two games I don't want, I finally got refund.

Oh not to short sell BBV in general. All the others were good experiences. Some even got me the manuals from the display cases to complete my games.

Ninja Gaiden 2 $14.99-complete
Battlefield Bad Company $14.99-no case/manual
Street Fighter guide 1¢

Cashier thought the guide being a penny was so funny, he found a penny and payed for it.
Thank you! I haven't had time to keep up with this thread, especially when I don't have enough money to buy anything other than penny guides. Maybe it can be added to the price list in the op.
Just so you(and the hoarders too) know, the list of pennied guides from Blockbuster is readily available in the second post of the Reduced Price Guide thread that I run.

Why have it in multiple spots, when it serves no purpose being in multiple threads?

If I were to buy all of this, how much would it come out to be? It's buy 1 get one free, so how does that work?

$9000

It's free.. just go to BBV and grab the free one.
Why not pair up the games for yourself and find out? That's what people are trying to tell you by giving smartass answers.
I asked how it works. What, i can buy a 4 dollar game and get free 13 dollar game?

Pompous idiot!

It works like this:

Pair up 2 games(preferably the same price for each game), you buy one and then the system takes off the value of the second game(or the lower priced one should they not be equally priced ones).

Is that better :newbie:?

Buuuwaahahahahahah !!!

-------------------------------------

I picked up Eternal Sonata and Mario Sluggers(mis-tagged) for $14.99 and returned Mario Sluggers because it would not read(for$19.99???)and picked up Dragon Quest/Onechanbara(Wii) for $9.99 and they gave me $10.88 back in credit . Eternal Sonata for -$5.00 is pretty good . I would also like to note that Eternal Sonata is so awesome I recommend it highly.

At least I don't spend my time always looking for the easy way out!

Easy way out? Wtf are you talking about? It's really simple, either you get the concept of 'buy one, get one FREE' or you don't. It's not rocket science.

I see I have more thread cleanup to do. Enough with the crap :bomb:

The way a Buy 1 Get 1 Free works, in almost every case everywhere in the world across all of recorded history, is that you buy one item and get the second of equal or lesser value for free. So try to buy games that are the same price if you want to maximize the savings.

Back to a normal question:
Okay quick question. Are sales on used games from BBV final?
Yeah, they are supposed to be. They really only allow returns if they are defective (ie, the used game doesn't play properly). But as you saw, it is YMMV as always and with a little effort I'm sure you could find someone to take returns. Basically, though, you can't treat it like GS where you can just buy whatever and then figure out within 7 days if you want it or not. So only try to buy stuff you really want.

Random trade quote of the day: X-Blades for PS3 gets $15. They could not find DBZ Burst Limit in the system for me. If any of the BBV employees here can look that up properly (or really determine that it isn't in the system) I'd appreciate it. I'm scrounding through my clearance games looking for stuff to get credit with. A lack of credit resulted in me passing on a few games at my local store today. It's tough to shell out cash for them no matter how cheap they are (and these weren't things I was dying to get so it was a pretty easy decision). The funny thing is that I ran out of GC/HWV credit during their sale and had very few ways of getting more while I could easily get BBV credit. Now I can get credit at GC/HWV no problem, but am having a hard time at BBV .
Don't even waste your time, he's obviously a troll.
So I've seen in numerous threads. Oh well. I'm off to check another local Blockbuster tonight to see if they have anything decent left for this sale. Hopefully I find something good.
Managed to find more guides today :cold::
Metal Gear Solid 4 x 3
Street Fighter IV x 2
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
Theres a BBV a block from my house with like 10 Metal Gear guides, about 10 SFIV guides, 5 Star wars guides, and 5 Smash Brothers guides

I got two so far, but like how did you get so many at the same time or were they spread out amongst stores?
I got just one of SF4 and one of SW force unleashed so i dont push it
I'm sure if you try to grab 3 or 4 of the same guide they will deny you

I bought all 6 guides at the same store at the same time.
The cashier didn't even bat an eye, guess he just didn't care.
