Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Thanks. Wasn't sure I was gonna get an answer with that string of posts coming (the ones you deleted). I helped an old lady in a wheelchair the other day so I'll chalk my successful return up to karma.

i just went to blockbuster today and i got
prince of Persia the fallen king 9.99
ninja gaiden dragon sword 9.99
locks quest 9.99
spider-man web of shadows 9.99

GT4 (PS3) at that price is a steal, especially with a BOGO. Now I have to ask myself what game to pair up with it, suggestions?

Ok here's a scenario

Lets say i buy GTA IV and i want ....lets say the simpsons game for free.
And then i wanna buy Forza 2 and wanna get marvel ultimate alliance free. Will they charge me for GTA IV and Forza 2 or GTA IV and the simpsons game?

The 2 most expensive games you will have to pay for and the 2 lesser expensive ones will be the free ones.
Random trade quote of the day: X-Blades for PS3 gets $15. They could not find DBZ Burst Limit in the system for me. If any of the BBV employees here can look that up properly (or really determine that it isn't in the system) I'd appreciate it. I'm scrounding through my clearance games looking for stuff to get credit with. A lack of credit resulted in me passing on a few games at my local store today. It's tough to shell out cash for them no matter how cheap they are (and these weren't things I was dying to get so it was a pretty easy decision). The funny thing is that I ran out of GC/HWV credit during their sale and had very few ways of getting more while I could easily get BBV credit. Now I can get credit at GC/HWV no problem, but am having a hard time at BBV .
It's in the system all right. Maybe they just looked it up wrong. It could be under a lot of names. Maybe DBZ, Dragonball or dragon ball. All 3 of those results would yield something different. I'll check that for you tomorrow iO.
I see I have more thread cleanup to do. Enough with the crap :bomb:

The way a Buy 1 Get 1 Free works, in almost every case everywhere in the world across all of recorded history, is that you buy one item and get the second of equal or lesser value for free. So try to buy games that are the same price if you want to maximize the savings.
my blockbuster sucks, i went to about 6 of them that are close to me and none had anything good. 98% of the games that yall are saying your finding in this thread, they didn't have. i never get in on any of the good retail deals, only online deals :(

Man, I saw that Onechabara shit at every BB I went to, so I pretty much had to buy one. Weirdly I found a disc only Uncharted for $9.99, it had a POG disc only label on it, so that's probably a one-off find.

Otherwise, pretty blah findings. Apart from the aforementioned Onebachahrhusjuhgb33%*!, none of the stores seemed to have restocked anything. I would have bought Pikmin Wii, Metroid 3, or Resistance, but I didn't see those at any of the 5 BBs I went to.

Had a decent run @ Cocoa Beach, FL while on Vacation

:360:
Dark Sector
Fracture
Spider-Man:Web of Shadows
Army of Two
Facebreaker

:wii:
Samba de Amigo (loved this on the Dreamcast)

I have skimmed this thread looking for a list of games/prices (like on the Target/Sears/Kmart threads), but haven't seen one on the thread. I apologize in advance , but does one exist for Blockbuster/this sale?

9.99
Madagascar 2 NDS
SW: TFU NDS
Lego Batman PSP

14.99
Dead Rising - x360

I had some more to add/change, but Im too tired to dig it out :( My stores had loads of crap out, it was overwhelming. I love game rush stores so much.

Went back to a few more Blockbusters around Indian River in Chesapeake and only managed to find GTA 4 (PS3) 14.99, and Pure, (360) 9.99. Already had a GTA4 for PS3 but couldnt pass it up. Was hoping for Bioshock/Folklore though >_>

For all the people in Hawaii.. I just went to the BBV by Kahala Mall and they really didn't have anything notable for the B1G1 sale. But they had 50% off new games, and I just got the last Fight Night 4 for $31 and change. They had some UFC , Red Faction, Prototype for PS3, and a shitload of games for 360 and Wii. So yall might want to check that out.

First post has a list of games that qualify for this sale.

I traded in a Cranium Bukakke that I got from Sears tonight for $6.97(normal UPC version, since I think the restickered one already hit a penny)and it still trades in for $16 in store credit. Unfortunately, there was nothing at the store I did the trade at, so I had them give me the credit on a Value Card, so that I can check the one further Blockbuster tomorrow when I go on a day trip with my one friend.

Thanks...when in doubt, click the spoiler button.

Are kane & lynch , QoS worth getting for 14.99 in this sale?

i already got GTA 4, Battlefield, Haze, Mercenaries - 27.41 after tax :) I felt better after missing out almost completely on the Hollywood video sale

Got Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance for a grand total of $7.57 ( $6.99+tax , both equally priced). Got them in Houston West/FM 1960 store. Otherwise, not much of a selection but these were gems I could no pass up.

Went to 3 different BBs today but only one store had decent stuff. Ended up with...

360 Star Trek: Legacy (No manual) 6.99
360 Fear Files (No Manual) $9.99
Wii House of the Dead 2 and 3 9.99
Wii De Blob $14.99

Saw The Word Ends With You (DS) for 9.99 at a different store but couldn't find anything to pair it with. Also saw Wii versions of Manhunt 2, Bully, and Nights each for 6.99 so I may go back to that store and pick up a few more. This finally gives me a reason to dust off that Wii that's been alone and unplayed for a year+.
sorry if im asking a reapted Question again but blue dragon comes with all 3 discs right?
Ha ha sorry this is funny but to answer your question yes it should have all 3 discs or tell them to shove it.

I couldn't find a BBV trading thread so I'll just ask here. Anyone seeing any extra Ghost Squads or HotD 2&3? If so, I could send you a money order or something. Let me know.

Just did a big update to the list in the OP.

Man, there's some more stuff I'm gonna have to ask my local store to search for... SW: TFU for DS at $9.99, Boom Blox, a few others. I went to another store tonight that had lots of stuff but nothing that I felt I had to get.

I went to a BBV outside my area and found a copy of OneChanbara :360:. I needed a 2nd game to use the b1g1 but the pickings were slim (they had about 20 used games total). I decided to go with Boom Blox. When the lady scanned the games, Boom Blox rang up at $29.99. The case was marked at $14.99 so she called her manager and he had her adjust the game to $14.99. Actually, she just deleted Boom Blox and just charged me for OneChanbara (she wrote the price for BB on the receipt w/ a pen).

I found it strange that Boom Blox rang up at $29.99 but when I checked the disc, I noticed that it was a copy of Boom Blox: Bash Party. I had no idea that a second game even existed. I did check the discs for scratches before paying but I didn't realize it was the wrong game.

I'm hoping to find FFCC: Echoes of Time :wii: so I'll check my local BBV.

^^^ You got seriously lucky there. They had Boom Blox Bash Party tagged right on the bar code (thus why it rang up $29.99) but someone put the wrong sticker on it. That is the newer and much improved game and it is pretty damn good (as was the first one).

^ Actually, the case is for the original Boom Blox so it was tagged right. I think the clerk just messed up and got the wrong disc (unless someone traded in the wrong game). Like I said, they only had around 20 or so used games total, so who knows.

Yes, but wasn't the scan from a bar code on the case? That means they had it correct there even if the art work didn't match. It seems odd that with only 20 used games they would have both Boom Blox (which I can't find anywhere) and Boom Blox Bash Party ;). But it's possible I guess. It is probably more likely they just grabbed the rental cover art for the wrong version but did have it correctly tagged (bar code) but not stickered (price tag). Sounds like a freaking mess for their inventory control though!

It could be like the copy of Midway's Arcade Treasures that I thought I found during the $5 game sale at Hollywood Video. It turned out to be the second or third one(whichever one has all of the racing games like San Fran Rush). I ended up having to return it since I wanted the first one, which they had the case for.

They still have the game in stock at that store but never replaced the coverart for MAT1 for a generic for number 2 or 3.
This BBV puts the barcodes on the sleeve that they use to store the discs in. That is the barcode that she scanned. Believe me, I checked the whole store for any used games and only found around 20 (half on an endcap and half in a bin). Maybe they were already cleaned out since the sale did start a few days ago.

In my area, I would say it's 50/50 on whether they put the barcode on the sleeve or the case itself. Back when flipping was still alive at BBV, it would help a little when they would put the stickers on the sleeves, although, the barcode sticker is the easiest one to remove.

Sounds like a freaking mess for their inventory control though!

Not really surprising, coming from a store where Cranium Kabooki still trades in for $16.

This deal sucks in my area. Last time they did the B1G1, the selection was relatively significant - at LEAST five different games for each system at each store that I hit up. Ran to six Blockbusters last night and had a tough time finding more than two different games for each system, let alone worthwhile ones.

Picked up: Mercs 2 :360:, Ninja Gaiden II :360:, Lego: Indy :360:, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass :ds:.

I'm happy with what I found, don't get me wrong, but the last time I did this I must have found about 14 games that I deemed worthwhile, and I am seriously willing to lower my standards in the name of a good sale.

On the bright side, they're also doing 5 for $20 on movies and I found a bunch of good ones there, so all is not lost. I'll probably hit up one or two more Blockbusters today, but my expectations are low.
Just so you(and the hoarders too) know, the list of pennied guides from Blockbuster is readily available in the second post of the Reduced Price Guide thread that I run.

Why have it in multiple spots, when it serves no purpose being in multiple threads?
Thanks for the info. It helps many who don't know about or read every thread or don't have time to, it has probably helped many here even though it was just in posts and not the OP. So it does serve a purpose for many, not all. OP/posts linking to your guide thread would be just as helpful when someone asks about what guides are on sale here.

I was able to pickup:

Pikmin Wii
Star Was Clone Wars Lightsaber Battles Wii
Onechanbara 360
Kane and Lynch 360
BAJA 360
Ninja Gaiden II 360

$48 after tax.

BBV's around here are all slim pickings. I did manage to score GTA IV for PS3 for $15 and I had almost no choice for the freebie game. I ended up grabbing Baja Edge of Control for the 360. Baja is actually kind of fun, so for $8 (splitting the cost) I can't complain

EDIT - forgot to mention a lot of games were priced at 19.99 - just out of range - many of them should be around $15. Maybe next time around when they do this deal all those games will qualify.

Anybody owning these two games - Kane & Lynch / Bond Quantum of Solace.......Are they worth getting?

Reviews for Kane & Lynch are not good and QoS is okay.
Is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for Wii any good? I saw it for $15 and caught my eye. Might get this and Da Blob.
The reviews I read said it was too much of a port from the ds. Two screens look bad on one tv and overall it doesn't play as well as the original, but for 7.50 it may be worth it.

QoS is worth to get it alone at that price, at least for me.
K&L is super fun if you have a friend to play co-op with, but single player is just average.

14.99 for both game is definitely a steal. Go get them quick!!!!!

Yeah, if you're any sort of fan of Bond games, QoS is definitely worth the $7.50

Glad to hear the Kahala store's doing a 50% of new games. I was just there kinda recently, but don't remember if they had too much. I guess if you say there's a lot of 360 games it's worth a look over the weekend.

Simply doing the 50% off is a good sign for the holiday season, though.

D'oh! I was hoping for $25. Thanks for checking though. I got one on clearance at Sears for around $5 and thought I might get good use out if it at BBV. I guess not.

I consider getting penny guides at BBV as being so highly YMMV and ephemeral (in that it has never happened before this batch a few scattered ones a couple of months ago) that I don't want to include it in the OP and deal with all the questions that will come up about it. If you are interested in penny guides, read the penny guide thread (not directed at you J7, just in general ;)).

By the way, weren't people asking what they were selling Rock Revolution for? I thought maybe they had sold the ones I traded in, but it appears they have not at two stores I've been to recently. The reason I didn't see them at first is because they were with the handful of $19.99+ games on the regular racks and not in the B1G1 bin. They are $24.99 I think for both systems. Good luck with that BBV!

Picked up Onechanbara Bikini Zombie Slayers and Golden Axe Beast Rider for $16.04 today. Went after work hoping to find Bikini Zombies slayers and grabbed Golden axe as it was the only other $15 game and seems like it will be worth a play though.

I liked Kane&Lynch more than QoS.

I really liked the protagonists and the story, but the actual game itself is kinda buggy. I never plyed it online.

QoS was a tedious bore where the optimal way to play was to sit behind cover and take out enemies until they stopped spawning.

Unless you've seen both of the new Craig Bond movies, the story wont make a lick of sense(I hadnt seen either before playing QoS)

The online portion of QoS was garbage.

Can you return a game that you bought from a distant blockbuster store to the one nearby you, if it is defective and exchange it for other copy of same game?

The employee of the store said no but I wanted to confirm

I've actually done this before and it worked, guess it depends on the employee. Picked up GTA 4 and Bioshock for PS3 for the price of a Cranium Bukkake from Sears (1.97). :)

I got this as one of my B1G1 pairs. And yes, it's pretty much exactly like a DS game on the big screen except, it's only on about 1/3 of your screen and the top "screen" screen of your DS is on the other side. Not a bad game but it sucks presentation wise. The should have done a better job if they were going to port it to the Wii. Anyway, I traded it into a local video game store for $25! So, it was a win for me anyway.
