Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Saw the deal and had to go on the hunt .. these are my trophies for generally the East side of Houston from Woodridge to all the way out to Webster, TX

Most of the most Block Busters selection are lean to begin with .. the only "new" 14.99 game that came out was that Bikini Samurai Slayer for the X360 and Wii and that Clone War game for the Wii since the last sale .. everything else were leftovers from the previous sale .. but it stuff I left behind due having no job but now I got some cash flow Im able to splurge a bit more

If you see something you wish to trade for let me know by late Sunday or some of it is going to Gamestop for trades in .. good luck out there! ^_^

I picked up Sonic Adventure Rush, Sonic Chronicles, Fire Emblem all for the DS. I also picked up Boom Blox for the Wii.

I did notice that Boom Blox is a little scratched up, if it doesn't play correctly, will Blockbuster switch it out with one of their other copies if I try to return it? Or will I have to choose something else that's $14.99 and under?

You get 30 days to return / exchange it if you still have your receipt

Just traded a Race Pro and RR and can't find anything I want. Not sure what I expected to find, since my friend and I absolutely decimated their stock in the last sale. I just got a PS3, and there isnt a single quality title left in any store for it. I might just have to pick up the last copies of GTA4 and Wii GH:WT and trade them back in a GS.

The thing that has absolutely shocked me about this sale vs. previous BBV sales is the variety of games available, and how every store seems to have different games, especially if Wii games are what you are looking for. This seems like it would only be true if there were some people trading games instead of just being rental conversions. I have gotten 28 different Wii games, 10 Xbox 360 games, 11 PS3 games, and 9 DS games. It just seems like I am used to the sales where every store has the same selection of Mercenaries 2, GTA IV, Golden Axe, etc. The 360, PS3, DS and PSP selection is not good at the stores but it is different at every store. I have really appreciated that this time, and it is what has kept me hunting.

The only problem I've noticed with this sale is that some of the rental conversions(since few of us are actually trading stuff into them anymore due to the crap values now)are being put out as disc only with NO coverart or manuals.

Thus far, I've only been stuck with ONE game without a manual or coverart(R&C: FTOD for PS3)since I've managed to get the clerks at each BBV store to give me the manual/coverart that I needed for prior pickups.

But so far the manual for R&C has eluded me.

However, for those buying these former rentals and wanting a real 360/PS3/Wii case, just ask for them since I got some spare PS3 cases the other night. According to many stores, they're supposed to keep the cases anymore instead of dumpstering them. But I've seen many BBV stores using them to put other display items up on display(stacks of 360, Wii and PS3 cases with something stacked on top of them).

The store I checked last night though had mostly disc only current gen stuff. So suffice to say, I traded in the copy of Cranium Bukakke, but I wouldn't buy anything from that store.

I'm headed to Jersey tomorrow with a friend(Hot Dog Johnny's), so I'll probably check the Mt. Pocono store en route.

I am debating on whether or not to grab Hannah Montana on the PS3 for 14.99 (7.50)....

Finally picked up a copy of Boom Blox for myself, but One Piece still eludes me (all the copies I traded ages ago are gone). This sale has done really well about filling out even more of my collection (collection of games I'll never get around to, though).

Most of the games I have gotten are complete. Mario & Sonic, and Big Brain Academy for Wii are the only games I have that don't at least have cover art. And the DS and PSP games are almost all without manuals but have the original cases. But the BBV around me do a mostly good job taking care of their stuff, or at least a lot better then the HWVs.

Nothing like driving to bumblefuck nowhere for hot dogs.

Didn't know about the sale till I went in to exchange my game. Glad I went. Was able to get LocoRoco 2 and The World Ends With You For $9.99 :D. Gonna be checking other stores tomorrow.

I managed to find this stuff (not much but thats okay with my bank account). If anyone's interested in any of these please PM and we can work out a trade. I noticed my store still had a 360 and PS3 QoS if anyone needs one.

360
OneChanBara: Bikini Samurai Squad

Golden Axe: Beast Rider
Spider-man: Web of Shadows (manual and disk only)

PS3
Folklore
Lost: Via Domus
The Incredible Hulk
Monster Madness: Grave Digger

I was able to get a very decent lot of PS3 games today. A Blockbuster closed a couple miles down from this one and I think they sent all the inventory to this Blockbuster so I was able to pick up:

Folklore
Quantum of Solace
Oblivion
Assassin's Creed
Devil May Cry 4
The Club
Turok
Mercenaries 2
Unreal Tournament 3
Ratatouille
Army of Two
Condemned 2

I will not be able to buy another game for a year with this backload.
QoS is worth to get it alone at that price, at least for me.
K&L is super fun if you have a friend to play co-op with, but single player is just average.

14.99 for both game is definitely a steal. Go get them quick!!!!!
Okay I got both Kane & Lynch + QoS both were marked 14.99.

Best part about this sale is so far all games i got were complete map/artwork/manual + disc.

My blockbuster has only Stranglehold, MLB 08, and some other game for PS3. Glad to see some of you having better luck where you live.

I was able to snag Onechanbara for both the 360 and the Wii. I also got 007 QoS for the PS3 and a Sponge Bob game for the DS. Pickin's were slim at the BlockBuster's around me.

Picked up Watchmen The End is Nigh Parts 1 and 2 for $14.99 on the 360. It had the $14.99 price tag and was rung up using the BBV sticker UPC, so don't think it was a mistake.

Is Onechanbara any good?

By the way, I picked up 2 copies of Phantom Hourglass and the lady was explaining to some other employee that customers can only buy 2 of any one title. I asked her why and she said because people are buying to resell.

I'm not sure why anyone gives a shit. Isn't the point of a CLEARANCE sale to get rid of stock?

If someone wants to buy 10 copies of Condemned 2, have at it.

Saw some new signs that corporate sent my BBV the other day. The signs are B2G1 free signs. I haven't read anything about a B2G1 free coming up in the near future, but this could be a sign that BBV might start running them soon.

Edit - I see we're back to screwing with iO's avatar, huh?

Today's haul:
:wii:
Pikmin - $14.99

:psp:
Star Ocean: Second Evolution - $14.99

:ds:
Guitar Hero On Tour - $9.99
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon - $9.99

Guides:
Metal Gear Solid 4 x 3

I think I'm done with this sale.

Amid the laughably bad old-kids-movie-based games and 2006 sports titles, I found

Prince of Persia: The Fallen King (DS) and Ninja Town (DS)

Both were marked $15 but rang up at $10. Both complete and look like they've never been played.

There was also a copy of Onechanbara wii and I would've gotten it if there was anything else to grab along with it. Other than that there were no complete games, let alone good complete games.

Well, I had another wonderful customer experience with BBV staff. On Friday, I found a set of $14.99 games and a set of $9.99 games. I took them to the counter, knowing in advance what my total should be. The woman goes to look for the games and comes back to tell me that they didn't have one of the games and that I could pick a replacement if I wanted (does this happen a lot? It's like the 4th time it's happened to me at this store).

Anyway, I managed to find another game I wanted (same price as the non-existent game), but for whatever reason, I wasn't paying as close of attention when she told me my total. It didn't dawn on me until I was leaving the store that I was charged for the two $14.99 games and got the 2 $9.99 games for free. I didn't have time to go back in to the store to get it straightened out, and didn't make it back over there until today.

I went in, explained to them that I thought the games rung up incorrectly, was extra polite, and said that the last time they ran the sale, the games were grouped by price, and you'd get a game of equal value for free. Unfortunately, the woman I was dealing with is a huge bitch and has given me a hard time about stuff before (back during the VV chaos, she told me that store credit couldn't be used to buy restaurant gift cards, points cards, any kind of card).

Not surprisingly, she shot me down saying "No. That's the way it works. You get the cheapest items free." I politely inquired "Really? What if I had done it as separate transactions? That would have made it come out right." Of course, when faced with logic, she couldn't muster any response at all (I guess her BS generator doesn't work that fast), and just gave me a look as if to say "tough shit". I stared at her for a second and then just said "Wow...I guess I SHOULD have done them as two transactions then." She said "Sorry" and handed me my games back.

I'm kinda torn on how upset I should be by this. I know it was 100% my fault for foolishly swiping my card without being sure that my total was correct (although everything was still the same price, I think having to go find another game just threw me off). But at the same time, there's still something to be said for customer service. I mean, when a customer proposes a situation that would have clearly allowed them to do what you're refusing to honor, are you not just making up your own rules?

I was tempted to tell her to take everything back, but with BBV's questionable return policy, and her attitude, it didn't seem like $5 was worth the trouble, especially when the end result was me going home without the games. I just get aggravated when people can't logically see why there is absolutely no reason to not allow a person to do something...especially when you're a dying company trying to hold onto the few customers you have left. I'm not crazy am I?

Well I had an AWESOME day today at a few BBV.
First one I go to I pick out Bully and Bourne Conspiracy. Both 14.99 for the 360. Go to pay and they can't find Bourne. Leave with nothing. Same thing happens at the second store with FEAR and QOS. Get to the 3rd store and grab Army of TWO and MX Vs ATV Unleashed for 14.99 where they are actually able to find the discs. Ready to pay and the guy tells me 30 bucks and says they aren't doing the sale. Mind you I know this isn't a franchise and they were doing the last B1G1 sale.

n8rockerasu - reminds me of my epic Kmart experience a few months back where they tried to refuse to let me return a few games even though I was clearly within the date specified on the front for returns. I had no less than 3 Kmart associates gang up on me and insist that Electronics returns were 30 days and it is clearly stated on the back of the receipt. No, actually, what was clearly stated is that CD, games, etc must be sealed FOLLOWED by a statement that air conditioners and power equipment must be returned within 30 days. These people (all native English speakers so no excuse) interpreted that completely wrong and it was totally frustrating. I kept pointing to the date on the front where it said clear as day I could return up till then. Their response: well, you bought other stuff that applies to. My response: look at the receipt, it is only video games! :wall:. They just said it was an error with the system and it is not supposed to say that. Eventually, after 20 more minutes of hassle I should never have gone through, they did the return but then, apparently, watched me on security cams as I bought more stuff in Electronics. She called the guy ringing me up and had him cross out the return date on my new receipt and write one that said it expired in 30 days .

It was so infuriating that in the face of all logic and reason they chose to argue with a customer over something they were so clearly wrong about. The B1G1 situation is similar though less clear cut - I could definitely see that being a frustrating and fruitless argument unless you get a reasonable person. Maybe you can try it when someone else is working there. I did have a case a while back where the guy rang everything up and assured me the computer would take care of it. Before paying I noticed that of course it didn't. He wouldn't do separate transactions so I just removed all the things that were the cheaper price (and just stuck with the $14.99 ones). He loses sales and I lost those other games, but no way was I going to give in to that when I asked about it in advance.

Yeah, it's ridiculous when a clerk acts like it would devastate the store to "give in" to what should have been done in the first place. But like I said, for $5, I might just eat it, and look a little more intently into the next opportunity to fuck BBV over (Bukkake anyone?). I was actually even surprised with myself that I didn't argue my point harder, but I find it difficult to argue with someone who responds with silence, lol.

Is anyone really sure how the system handles the B1G1? I've had a few times where I did specifically ask the clerk to make sure the games are grouped correctly. One time he said he did...and they weren't right. But another guy told me he did, and he actually did it correctly. It made me wonder if they have to manually choose which items to discount. Oh well, I guess it'll give me something to think about over the next 3 months before I step foot in a BBV again, haha :)

The way it works is this:

If they ring everything up (in any order, it doesn't matter) and hit total at the end it will take off the cheapest items like happened to you with the 2 x $14.99 and 2 x $9.99 games.

If they ring them up in pairs of like-priced games, then hit total after each pair you will get the "correct" discount. It isn't as tricky as them having to select which game is free or anything like that - they just simply have to total after each pair. Fortunately for me most of the employees around here are familiar with the process and do this for me automatically now (what, with this being the 4th or 5th B1G1 sale).

So the grouping only matters if they hit total after each pair (or at least after each group of like-priced games).

Nothing too great at my BB but I managed to pick up Sonic Unleashed and Okami for 14.99. I was pretty happy about the Okami, just sucked that Sonic Unleashed was the only other decent game to pair it with.
Didn't know about the sale till I went in to exchange my game. Glad I went. Was able to get LocoRoco 2 and The World Ends With You For $9.99 :D. Gonna be checking other stores tomorrow.
Checked another local store and got another pretty good haul. Scored:
:360: Ninja Gaiden II (14.99)
:360: Rock Band AC/DC Track Pack (14.99)
One came off from that group (-14.99)
:360:Devil May Cry 4 (9.99)
:360:The Club (9.99)
One came off from that group (-9.99)
Total was a little over $27. :D

Luckily I live in Dallas so I got a lot of stores I can hit up to see what they got for the sale.

Anyone confirm a store in richmond,va that has both battlefield bad company and burnout paradise for sale. I really want those games.

I found another copy of Fire Emblem and Star Ocean: Second Evolution, but couldn't find anything to pair up with either game. Holding off until tomorrow in hopes of price drops. Would love to pick up PoP or Assassin's Creed if either drops.

I went to 5 different BBVs (and passed two closed down stores) today and didn't pick up anything. The first few stores would have one thing I wanted but nothing really worth pairing it with. The last store I went to had Tomb Raider Anniversary (360) and No More Heroes with case/manuals for 9.99 each but when I brought them up to the counter they couldn't find the NMH disc. Can't complain too much because I got One Piece: UL (9.99) and Mario + Sonic (14.99, Wii) yesterday. It's pretty funny how the prices of certain games would fluctuate $5-10 between the different stores.

popped into my local BB the other day because i saw they had Okami for 9.99 a couple days earlier, knew nothing about this sale, and realized it right as i grabbed the game.

picked up Lego Star Wars 2(360) for the free game.

wanted Fire Emblem but it was marked $20, and the cashier wouldn't let me use it as my "buy game" even if the free game was still under 15. ah well.

there doesnt look like there are any price drops this week for some reason. we didnt receive any reprice report for prp's or games. this could be a ymmv thing but i'm thinking this could be the case everywhere because i checked with another store but no price changes there either. i'll report if anything comes over tomorrow but we usually get the report on sat. for things changing on monday.

Managed to find Ninja Gaiden 2 (360), and Mercs 2 (360) today, seeing as i have emptied most of the local BB's out of thier best games, im gonna go back and try to see if i can buy something above 15 bucks (Like the 20 Dollar Soul Calibur 4s) and get something under 15 free.

You should've just bought the games and the correct price would've come up when scanned. There's been many times in the past where I've bought games during the b1g1 and one of the games has been tagged incorrectly (above $14.99). Don't even mention the sale and just have them scan the games and you should get the promo automatically.

Not much at the 2 BBVs I checked today but I did pick up GH: On Tour Decades and Spongebob: Globs of Doom :ds:.

Sometimes you just need to pair different priced games if you want to pick them both up, I remember doing it quite a few times in past sales where pickings were slim

I know the chances are slim, but I would be interested in trading for No More Heroes and Hotel Dusk. Send me a PM and I'll send you a list of what I have.

I stopped by a store that has always been kind of lame with the sales and trade-ins in the past and was surprised to see it was having a store closing sale. They had their games a whopping 15% off and had about 3 titles - SF IV and a few others. I saw nothing under $14.99 but if it is anything like the last store I went to that closed during a B1G1 sale I probably didn't miss much. The prices were actually worse because instead of running the B1G1 they just had 20% off. That was pretty damn stupid.

Anyway, it is sort of bad to see all these stores closing but they definitely picked the two worst ones out of the whole area to shut down so at least they did it in a smart way.

So I was lamenting the fact that Star Wars Force Unleashed for PS3 is still $19.99 and thus not eligible for the sale but in the end it worked out for me. I picked up Onechanbara and GH Decades last night (painfully, using cash since I'm out of BBV credit and can't figure a way out to get more). Today I traded them to Gamecrazy for $30.80 total after their $5 bonus promo (you get $5 extra when trading $15 worth - you need to ask about it though as none of the 3 GC stores I went to over the weekend had any idea until I mentioned it - some promo ). I then picked up a complete near mint SW: FU for PS3 for $11.69 after MVP discount. So I converted $10 worth of stuff from BBV into the game I wanted + $19 left over. Nice. I'm kicking myself for passing Onechanbaras at another couple of BBV stores because I was out of credit but I'm definitely glad I shelled out the cash for this one set anyway.

The extra $5 at GC ends after Labor Day so get those trades in tomorrow if you want - though even without it, it isn't a bad deal. Some other decent credit transfers include Monsters vs Aliens DS, LocoRoco 2, and FF CC Echoes of Time Wii. Since none of these games, with the exception of Locoroco 2, are real desireable keepers I say trade them to GC where you can get something you really want.

problem is, i didn't even know Fire Emblem was SUPPOSED to be 14.99... i somehow missed this thread here and only stumbled on the sale on my own. so i assumed it was 19.99 and thought maybe i could slip by by just getting an under-14.99 as the free game, even though i would be buying a $20 one.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is not $14.99, so don't feel too bad about it.
