Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Hmmm...so far I have Onecheebara and Guitar Hero DS as being decent flips to Gamecrazy as well as the Final Fantasy DS game. Anything else I should be on the lookout for? Saturday is going to be my big hunting day.

Went to four stores today. The first three were complete busts, but the last was pretty decent.

:360: Onechanbara - 14.99
:wii: Sonic Unleashed - 14.99 (Free)
:wii: Guitar Hero: World Tour - 9.99
:psp: Loco Roco - 9.99 (Free)
:wii: Marvel Ultimate Alliance - 9.99
:wii: No More Heroes 9.99 (Free)

Total: 38.38 after tax.

Wow!
Amazon is offering $15 credit for the game. I'd sell it for $14 shipped.
Gamestop was also offering $15 in credit for it when I got rid of my copy about 2 weeks ago. Couple that with the 25% more credit bonus when buying/preordering COD:MW2, Arkham Asylum or Halo ODST and it jumps to almost $20.

Surprised to see a Bioshock PS3 last night. I'll grab it tonight if it's still there I guess. Just slim pickings on what to get with it.(Bad Co., Onechanbara(wii), GTA IV 360(disc only).

Mind you, I hit up eight BBV's for that haul. I left behind a bunch of solid titles, but I grabbed every copy of Fire Emblem, Zelda, NG Sigma, & Folklore I saw.

Apparently, either every BBV store by me already got hit on the first couple days of the sale or they never had anything good to begin with, since every store I went to mainly had disc only, no coverart or manual crap left.

I was shocked I found the 8 or so titles I actually managed to buy thus far during this sale. Thing is, I have $16 or so in credit from flipping a Cranium Bukakke to the one Blockbuster and there's 2 more stores I wanna try to hit before this sale ends, though I'm not hopeful for a decent score at either since they're out in the boonies and most folks up that way usually clear out the stores pretty quick.

In case you guys aren't following the GS thread, there's supposed to be a new trade-in promo starting next week:

Trade 3 Wii/360/PS3 games, get an extra $10 credit
Trade 4 Wii/360/PS3 games, get an extra $20 credit

I'm not sure what the minimum TIV is, but it's probably not any higher than it was in the past ($1-$2).

I've been to 5 BBV and haven't seen anything notable :( I've cleaned these BBV out in the past, but was hoping for some bikini zombie killing, or a restock, but alas nothing is left.

I have some kabooki for them too.

Yeah. Just make sure you trade in groups of 4. If you trade in 8 games at once, I doubt you'll get an extra $40 in credit.

I'm still waiting for the dickhead DM from my local GS stores to get back to me on what he might do as far as my trades I did about 2 weeks ago is concerned. I wanted to trade my games seperate from my PS3 and apply them to the Batman 25% promo and the fuckin' register drones said I could 'only do one promo', even though I asked to do two transactions.

I talked to managers at 2-4 other GS stores already and they told me that I could've done two seperate promos to bump up my credit total, yet I guess it was up to the lazy asses at the GS I went to.

If the fuckin' DM doesn't get back to me and soon, I'm gonna dispute the $30 charge from my debit card that I had to use to pay off the remaining balance on the slim PS3.

So, for now, trading anything to GS for me is definitely out. But wouldn't it figure that I took advantage of some shittier promo and then this pops up.

Why wouldnt you just make them cancel the entire trade and do it elsewhere, if those employees were being douches? I've done that at both BBV and GS to real jack-ass employees. Of course, in an equal display of doucheism... I made them go through the entire transaction and then cancel it.

I really SHOULD have, but the way it was I was lugging my PS3 along with the 16 or so games and unfortunately I fell into the 'convenience' mode of thinking like the normal consumers do when they get ass raped by Gamestop.

So yeah, it was my fault to some extent, but the DM will be getting daily calls from me until he responds starting a little bit later this evening.:D

It's been almost 2 weeks now and not a single hint of a response from the DM, so I'm sure he's passed it off as a non issue. But I'm not giving up till this is somehow rectified.

What the hell ever happened to the shmoe we had from Gamestop's site that supposedly could answer questions for us? I guess he went MIA?

Oh and to get back ON topic, I stopped at yet another Blockbuster today but they had ZERO decent games. I guess that's what I get for not hitting that store much earlier in the sale, huh?

I have a feeling this has been covered, but what are the chances BBV would accept a Bukakke if the cover art was printed out from the internet? It's obviously YMMV, but have you guys had success with that in the past?

It depends on the employee some of them are assholes and some would just take it as they already have multiple cover-art printouts in store. If you can't get it traded just go to game crazy and price match it you should get 16+5 = 21$ for it..... provided it is still holding its TIV

- MGS 4

All 19.99 or above.

Picked up IJ: Staff of Kings and SW: Clone Wars Lightsaber Duels. I know these are not really supposed to be any good, but for $15 I couldn't resist. After this sale and the HWV sale I should probably not buy any more games this generation. But I know I will anyway.

so today i went to return my rentals and there was bukkake sitting in wii used shelf prolly the one that other guy traded in on thursday........needless to say i got that and dark sector PS3 for 6.99. I read dark sector had decent reviews and was the only other 6.99 title left.....

I tried trading it in at other BB and they wouldn't take it in because there was no cover-art it was just a plain white paper printout with the wii game name.....These are the only 2 BB close by so I guess this was epic-failure :whistle2:/

I am not sure 6.99 for two games counts as an epic failure. At 3.50 a piece (unless you get one of those seizures one can have watching video games) this seems like a mere failure.

Cranium Bukakke qualifies for the sale? Shit!! I figured since it had a TIV of $16 that it was still $29.99 or something used. Had I known it qualified for the sale, I'd have traded it into a closer BBV and then rebought it once they put it out, then traded it right back in and rebought a couple more times.

I wonder if any of the other el cheapo Wii games on the list have higher TIV's than sale prices?

Also, I wonder if I could get away with trading in two copies of Singstar sans microphones for $36 each(if they're still getting that) cuz I have about $35 in credit @ Rapestop still and I could buy 2 from them for $30.

oh well, epic failure was obviously not in reference to amount of $ involved. If you read the posts in this thread it is considered as kinda golden egg and I was happy to find it too but failed to cash on it......that was the failure. epic or mere, it was a failure.

I wasn't aware of the seizure stuff you mentioned but if you are one of those suffering from it, i'd feel sorry for you.

I picked up PS3 copies of Quantum of Solace and Turok for 14.99.

That was the best combo I could find at the three blockbusters I checked in Tucson. One had Mercenaries 2, which looked promising, but the only other game that seemed interesting there was The Club.

None of the BBs I went to had Arkam Asylum to rent, which was the original reason for my trip. Sigh... but at least I picked up two pretty decent games for the cost of rentals.
damn if i only knew the min, i would go grab some games from my bbv
Supposedly $2 value minimum which means that Dark Sector and Universe at War would be a good pair as their listed TIVs are 2.25 for DS and 3 or so for Universe.

You gotta have mics for the Singstar tradein to get 36, the TIV is much lower for game only. Plus, it's really YMMV on getting them to accept a bundle so it's risky unless you have a bunch of BBV/GRs around to keep trying until it works at one. Also, I noticed that a bundle I traded in a long time ago which was priced at 39.99 is now priced at 24.99 a week or so ago. TIV could have followed suit with a drop as well. Or it could be another Cranium debacle.

After the 'TIV crash' as you called it, I all but stopped checking this thread for a long time. I just called my closest BBV about 20 minutes ago and they said that without mics the TIV of the game is $4 and with mics they don't take supposedly.

They had one of the Singstar bundles, which I traded in to this very store, at the store I called for months and months.

That was the best damn flip since Powerdrome for PS2 back in the day to FYE.

I should try one of the other Blockbuster stores though after grabbing ONE copy of Singstar from the local GS to see if they'll put it in as the 'bundle' or not. :D I just wanna use up my remaining GS credit and try and double it one last time.

Nice, thanks. I have been SO busy and with the GC trade-in promo pretty much concentrating there. I'm not sure I'll be able to do a single BBV->GS thing with these barely overlapping promos. It's a shame, really ;). But at least with your list maybe I can snag a few things at my local store to make one trade-in at GS. Are any of those > 100% though? I'd like to maximize my trip if possible.

Also, is the GS promo only 360/Wii/PS3 or does it include DS? (I'm guessing not based on your list)

Sure, no problem.

For :360:, Dark Sector and above have > 100% profit.

For :wii:, Pikmin and above.

For :ps3:, Genji and Mercanaries 2.

I left out some games (Bolt, other movie games) because I thought I hadn't seen any of them locally. So, there may be others.

DS games are excluded from the upcoming GS deal.

I am pretty sure there were at least a couple of drops today. Found at a store I had already been to, these are not in the OP, and I have not seen them at any other store for 14.99:
Unreal Tournament 360 - 14.99
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction PS3 - 14.99

Mercenaries 2 is lot of fun, I was skeptic about it but I have already put in some fun hours in it.......
Also Bolt (360) is $5 at BBV after sale & goes for over $11 at GS after promos.
Did you trade it recently? That quote for bolt in the GS Tiv thread is from 7.19.

Actually, I thought I reported getting R&C for PS3 about a week or so ago. It was $14.99 as you reported. It's only getting about $8 something in store @ TRU on their TIV program, but it gets $10 flat at Hollywood Video(the ones with Gamezones in them that take trades).

Sorry if this a stupid question, but when the title says though 9/14 that means in theory the deal should still be going on tomorrow? Was gonna go hit up a few BBVs today after work but Phillies double header and Eagles game took up the rest of my day.
