Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
What's blockbuster policy on returning used games?
30 days to get another disc of that same game if defective. Most likely no problem of getting a refund in that time as well, but ymmv on most things outside of a disc swap.
I was under the impression if it's advertised right on the product, you get it for that price, unless you have a reason to believe that customer screwed with it or something.
I *think* it's generally state law that covers that sort of thing, not any uniform federal law. Most states have some level of protection for that I'm sure, but I know the Michigan law I refered to theoretically requires every thing in a store to have a price tag (although the walmarts, for example, skirt around this one), and for that tag to always be honored. BBV usually always has a tag on their movies/games anyway, so no big deal, but the couple times I've found something with a mistag, I've had to problems getting it overridden. I'm sure IO is telling the truth with having trouble on occasion in other stores.

Whatever, no big deal, and I'm no expert. So just consider this a pointless bump of the thread!
So are wet and brutal legend on that list?
After a quick search, looks like Rogue Warrior and Guitar Hero Van Halen will be the games to watch for this time at gamestop. Rogue Warrior is $24.99 used, and Van Halen is $27.99 used. Since the list is good through 3/1, there's always the change one/both of these games will drop a little further before then.

Aha! A rental to used game transfer happening between tomorrow and the 10th. Now, each store will be different based on their own stock. However, IF your store is putting a GoW Collection for sale used with this transfer, it's only 19.99! My store is, and that copy is mine =) As I said it can be done anytime up till the 10th, so call ahead of time since even if your store has one listed on the transfer, they may have not gotten around to doing it yet.
Best Buy sells the GoW Collection for $19.99 new after the $10 off coupon.
Nice, but that's nearly 10 dollars in gas for me. I don't even bother reading the bestbuy threads as the deals have to be extraordinarily good.

Bunch of price drops for tomorrow, I didn't see anything worth noting at all. A lot of great games dropping, but to prices we saw AT release, like 40-50 for ratchet and clank, odst, batman aa etc.

The only great thing I noticed was The Dark Knight blu-ray collector's edition thingy, that has the batpod and stand. It was 50 bucks, it's dropping to 20(should be tomorrow).
What $10 coupon?
Its in their pre-order bonus box for GoW3. All you have to do is put the $5 down, get the coupon then you can cancel the pre-order to get your $5 back.

...if they're like TRU, you'll get charged an extra $5 unless you return the coupon/gift card.
this thread got buried
And there is a reason for it. Let it lie until something worthwhile at BB occurs.

I will definitely try to hit up my local Blockbuster to get that $20 Dark Knight set. I will have to stop by Best Buy as well, thanks for the heads up Berzerker.
...if they're like TRU, you'll get charged an extra $5 unless you return the coupon/gift card.
They're not.
I picked up a $19.99 gow collection from blockbuster
Oh snap, best time then ever to check to see if they have one at mine since I gotta do some running around anyways todays. Thanks for the heads up.
I was under the impression if it's advertised right on the product, you get it for that price, unless you have a reason to believe that customer screwed with it or something. It's no questions asked at my store though, that's the price you get. And we know stuff is marked wrong all the time, almost every week it seems like 100-200 retail products change price; the same titles that just changed 2-3 weeks prior. Not all of the staff is great at doing it, keeping up with it, or hell finding the stuff since our DM loves to spread all our shit around the place.
Gotta love those huge reprice reports. Got 773 DVDs to reprice this week... That isn't including the games either.
I really wish some worthwhile sale would pop up at blockbuster.
There were a ton of good games at Blockbuster today, but I can't bring myself to buy any unless there is a B1G1 (since I'm out of credit)

I think my Blockbuster's owners must have had a stroke of idiocy or something. Went to 2 of them in my area, and practically every good game (Even the ones that had been 9.99/14.99), got re-priced/restickered up to 19.99/24.99.

Only decent things i saw cheap were EDF 2012 (Which barely cost 12 used at gamestop anyway), Onechambara for 10 (Which is pretty easy to find), and a few other older/bad games.

FYI: Sudoku Ball Detective for the DS is no longer eligible for trade-in at Blockbuster. Of course, that could be due to the fact it's $14.99 used now too.
bumpppppppp
For what? That's twice on the same page you've bumped this thread for no reason. Let it die until there's actually something to post ABOUT Blockbuster.
For what? That's twice on the same page you've bumped this thread for no reason. Let it die until there's actually something to post ABOUT Blockbuster.
The problem with that is that if Blockbuster does have a new deal, someone will just create a new thread because they can't find this one. Yes, people should do a search first, but they won't. So this thread may as well be bumped to at least remind people it still exists.

well heres something useful. i hit up a few bb and found several copies of mario super sluggers for wii for $10. with the current promo they trade in to gs for $24. also kirby superstar ultra for ds is $10 and trades in for $24. a few gems to be had if you find them.

Wow, that is nice. I guess I was aware Sluggers was that cheap but it didn't occur to me to trade to GS. I actually have $40 or $50 in BBV credit now and was saving it for B1G1 but it looks like they may never have one. I'll take the $10->$24 if I can get it. Super Sluggers has been that cheap for a while, though, so I'm guessing it will be hard to find.
yeah i havent traded anything into bb in over a year. i usually wait for good trade promos at gs like the current one. how are bb tiv lately?
Same here. Also, I feel terrible because I like the people at my local BBV They were begging me to preorder God of War, but the reality is that (without flips) I can get it much cheaper from other retailers.

Now that is something actually worth bumping the thread for.

So I found a $10 Mario sluggers, its disc only, scratched to hell, and doesn't play. So, uh, hello Gamestop! Refurb fee is still $2, right?

I think I saw some copies of both of those games mentioned that get $24 a pop at Gamestop after the promo(n EDGE, I assume). I may have to pick up a few of each from my local Blockbuster stores tomorrow depending on how my interview with Best Buy goes.

I'm still kinda shocked they called me less than a week after I applied. I guess maybe I finally answered the questions 100% right in that survey bs they do during the process. I hate those fuckin' 'strongly agree/strongly disagree' survey things in the application process.

Yeah, it is pretty much what I suspected - no copies of Sluggers at my local store and none in the entire area (he looked on the computer for me). Considering that it's been $10 since like Nov when they converted all their extra rental copies for sale I'd be very surprised to see any around now unless they were fluke trade-ins.

They do have a TON of new $14.99 and under stuff though - why can't they just have another B1G1!?

Had a very large rental to used game transfer we just finished over the weekend at my store. Half were expensive newer games, the other half cheap stuff. Some actually decent cheap titles. Would love to see a game sale come by soon.

After all the sales last time we had only a few handfuls of games left, except for 360 which still had a decent amount. Probably have 3x-5x games now from all the major releases hitting in the past few months and the transfers. We can only hope :D

And lmao I freaking hate this company. They've picked this as THE game. We had deals for others recently, but no one really cared till now and GoW III. I've asked one person and that's because he was renting the 1/2 collection, otherwise I just don't care. They just don't understand gamestop is way too popular with the average joe and amazon/walmart's fighting has pretty much kept every CAG and similar person busy as well, bbv really doesn't fit inbetween that.

Anything notable that's cheaper than anywhere else? e.g. more stuff along the line of Mario Sluggers for $10...?

Nothing stunning but lots of DS games for $10 (most notable was Lego Rock Band). I think this has been posted before but Ghostbusters for 360 is $10. I saw that Matt Hazard whatever game for PS3 for $10. Lots of things like that - stuff I would buy during a B1G1 but I passed on for now. Next time I go I'll write some of them down and add them to the list in the OP.

No not really. No quality titles at steal prices that I saw. Some average games you might have missed at 7, 10 or 15 bucks, but nothing really flippable. I don't remember everything though and realize I'm only going to see what's in my store inventory, so if some awesome title went from rental -> used at most stores but we don't have any left, I won't know about it.

Ghostbusters for 10 bucks is still nice if you needed it, I put another gow collection out for sale at 20(picked up our first one myself).

*Edit* Oh uh afro samurai for 10 bucks on either system. We did 360 a few weeks ago, I bought that one, and our ps3 copy just over the weekend. Again, another ok reviewed game you might be interested it at a lowish price.

What I saw today (Huntington Sta NY location):
OneChanbara 360 $9.99
Terminator 360 $9.99
Prince of Persia 360 $14.99
Viking 360 $6.99 (picked that up, complete and near mint shape)
Fallout 3 360 $19.99
Fuel 360 $9.99
FlatOut UC 360 $6.99
Eternal Sonata 360 $14.99
Soldier of Fortune 360 $6.99
Saw Afro Samurai for $10, passed as it was incomplete and scratched too much for my liking.

Pretty sure I saw Wii Mario power tennis for $14.99. That's listed as a $15 trade-in at GS, so with the 50% promo, you'd get $24. So 15 + tax into 24 is not as good as Mario sluggers, but its something else to throw in to the mix if you're going to be doing the rounds anyway.

Wow, you guys want a good flip? Check this shit out..

Only ten friggin dollars! I was amazed. The date on the tag is 2/22/2010. Maybe it's a one-time, blind-luck kinda deal, but it might be worth checking your BBV's with prepackaged POG's.

Also, I saw Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for $14.99. Excellent flip, as it trades in for nearly $18 at Gamestop pre-bonuses.

Very nice. Blockbusters around here only have Xbox 360 games as POGs.

Have yet to see more of those at my store in months and while the DM can bark as much as he want about the other store "not being a gamerush anymore because we don't have those distinctions now", they still get more game stuff so maybe they have recently.
