Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Did anyone see Little Big Planet PSP for $15? The thread on SD said it was but at the store I went to it was $35 or $25.
Wow, I wish I could find this

I was able to pick up Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow and Secret Agent Clank for a total of $6.99! I was still happy with it.
Theres another Blockbuster near the local library that ill check out tomorrow or thursday

BTW when do these sales usually end? Sorry if it's been asked.
The sale will go on through at least next Monday. Promos last from Tuesday to Monday. It will be up to BBV to decide whether to extend this deal after next Monday.

Success! The BBV on the way home was fairly good to me. They had some newer POG's mixed in with some older ones that were left from the last shipment. Plus some other games under $14.99. I picked up:

XBOX 360
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2: $6.99 (POG)
Saints Row 2: $6.99 (POG)
Street Fighter IV: $14.99
Brutal Legend: $9.99
007 QoS: $9.99
Crackdown: $6.99 (POG)
Two Worlds: $6.99

DS
LoZ Phantom Hourglass: $14.99

Not to bad IMO. I'll walk down to my local BBV after dinner.

I picked up for the X360:

Banjo-Kazooie ($9.99)
Spiderman Web of Shadows ($9.99)
Ninja Gaiden 2 ($9.99)
Onechanbara ($9.99)
Tomb Raider Underworld ($9.99)
Velvet Assassin ($14.99)

$5 was pretty much my price point for each of those games. Was hoping to snag Brutal Legend and Turok, but they had already sold them previously and were only taunting me with the empty cases. Sadly all the local BBV around me said they rarely ever get shipments of prepack POGs.

Just picked up Kingdom Hearts DS and Boom Blox Bash Party. They had Forza 3 marked as $9.99, and the girl was going to give it to me, but she said someone must have stolen their copy. Not a big deal. I brought up a Boom Blox case and manual and somehow wound up with Bash Party so I was happy.

Went to a few BBVs and only one store had any POGs, and they were all crap on top of that. One store I went to had the best stuff, but according to the guy working at the counter they weren't having the sale there. I'm probably gonna stop back and try again on account of him being an idiot and probably not having any clue as to what he was talking about. So far I got these, all complete with cases...

XBOX 360 Destroy all Humans Path of the Furon 14.99
XBOX 360 Overlord II 14.99
XBOX 360 Eternal Sonata 9.99
Wii Super Hero Squad 14.99
Wii Boom Blox Bash Party 14.99
PSP Dissidia Final Fantasy 14.99
PSP Soul Calibur Broken Destinty 14.99
DS Zelda Phantom Hourgalss 14.99
DS Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days 14.99

actually found some decent stuff for the ps3

Devil May Cry 4
Marvel : Ultimate alliance
Folklore
Ratchet and clank total destruction

they had Enchanted arms at another but I wasn't sure about how good that one was so I passed. May go back for it if reviews are positive
The lady behind the counter also said they usually restock on used games on sundays. This true guys? Im gonna trust the word of a CAG lol.
The employee at my Blockbuster said the same thing.

Well, I found Valkyria Chronicles (PS3 14.99) & Mario & Sonic: Olympic Games (Wii, 9.99).

Then I drove 5 minutes to Gamestop, traded in M&S for 25 towards a new copy of GTAIV.

Here is my haul for the 1st day (not bad considering one BB was closed due to power outage):

:360: Beautiful Katamari - Free
:psp: Star Ocean: Second Evolution - $9.99
:psp: Dissidia Final Fantasy - $14.99
:360: Velvet Assassin - Free
:wii: Mario Super Slugger - $9.99
:wii: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (not Winter Games) - Free

Saw a few other games that I might pick up like KH 365 and Soul Caliber for PSP

Traded Mario & Sonic , Mario Super Sluggers and Beautiful Katamari for $10.20 over at GS with the bonus they are running was going to add Star Ocean but thought i would keep that one (it gets $8.25 before bonus)

Oh and the good news is that I know 2 other locations that have Mario Sluggers...so I know what I am doing tomorrow...

RAD!!! :bouncy:

Thanks OP for the heads up on the B1G1 $14.99-and-under/POG sale. I just picked up 6 games for the Xbox 360 $22.75! Awesome!

I nabbed Grand Theft Auto 4, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Assassins Creed, Saints Row 2, Mercenaries 2, and Call of Duty: World at War. I so am glad I waited to get those titles on the 360.

Thanks so much!!! I never go to Blockbuster anymore now that I have had Netflix for a while, so I would have never known about this incredible deal had you not said anything (even though I almost live next door to a Blockbuster! :p They seem to only advertise this deal inside the store @ my local Blockbuster is why). :bouncy:

I got a fantastic haul today.

I didn't notice them converting any PSP titles from rent to purchase. Are they supposed to be doing that today? I want Dissidia and Star Ocean.

Got mostly what I wanted today.

HAWX (360) 14.99
Overlord II (360) 14.99
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 (DS)14.99
Ratchet & Clank (PSP) 9.99

all games I've been wanting for a while. Glad I got them all for $32.

I hope they are going to be getting more as well... The pile at my local BB is getting down there. I am going to have to routinely check BB now on my way home ever day :D :p

For a deal like this I will probably end up with at least 12 games by the time I am done. I am already half way there...hehe :whistle2:D

tried to go to bbv and get mario & sonic at oylmpic games...was marked 29.99 .... took it to register to check price he said it was 19.99!!!

anybody else have this problem?
wonder if the $10 price is ymmv...or he may of looked at the price for a new copy (a clerk did this once when brutal legend dropped, he gave me the new copy price instead of the used price)
I might call back later

ended up picking up Iron man and Devil may cry 4 on ps3!

thx op

also my local BBV had a barell of xbox 360 games w/ a 4 for $14 deal
might be ymmv

Went to a store during lunch, there were 2 cardboard bins with system logos in front of the game racks...but they were empty. And the first rack had the used games, but all with cases and priced normal. I dunno if that means they are waiting or they got raided. Have another store to see on the way home...but I'm not optimistic.

Picked up several 360 games marked 6.99 -

Call of Duty World at War
Prototype
Bourne Conspiracy
Assassins Creed
Far Cry 2

Thanks OP!

I hate that I'm not gonna be able to get to a BB until Thursday. I'm still planning to go, simply because someone just said they got Saint's Row 2 as part of this deal and I really regret trading that in after I beat it. It's so much fun.

Normally this would suck since all the BBVs around me closed, but I happen to be in Honolulu for the week and their BBVs here are basically untouched! I'll spare the list, but it was a pretty good haul IMO, I'll try to see if any other stores have anything worthwhile. Only two minor hiccups... Brutal Legend for 360 was $10 but I wanted to get the PS3 version and that rang up at $50! Also I had thought that Kirby Superstar Ultra was only $10 but that rang up at $25

Lakeshore BBV in SF was a bust. They had a table with "video game deals" like COD: WaW for $45. Nuff said.
BBV on Geary and 16th had some. Got SFIV and Lost Odyssey for 15, and Dark Sector and Lego Indiana Jones for 7. They had quite a bit left over, but nothing I'd want to actually play.
It seems stupid to ask this question on the first day of the sale, but anyone know when BBVs get restocked?

stopped at a few blockbusters in lake county illinois. They were running the sale.
Picked up Brutal Legend, Ninja Gaiden 2, Battlefield Bad Company and Ghostbusters for a total of $21.48.( all games were $9.99). What a crazy deal, that's really tough to beat anywhere. If I bought those games from amazon today, shipping alone would have cost $15.96. ( I actually did check the prices at amazon and the total for everything would have been about $50)

Pretty much, yes. Many people had the deal going on today at their BBV, some did not. My local BBV is running the sale later this week, supposedly.
Is this deal YMMV? My local BB has no signs advertising this promotion. They are not a franchise.
Did you just take their word or attempt a transaction? This is not YMMV. 2 or 3 of them didn't have signs up, and 2 of them literally didn't even know it was going on. Just take to up that you want, and do a transaction. It will work.

Picked up a few myself, thanks OP! Unfortunately, someone beat me there and bought $500 worth of games according to the rep.

:ps2: Indigo Prophecy $4.99
:ps3: Rainbow Six Vegas $6.99
:360: Too Human $9.99
:psp: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy $9.99
:psp: Final Fantasy Dissidia $14.99

Unless it's a franchise store, the sale is on.

Sales folks may not know about it, but that doesn't matter since it rings up automagically on the register.

It doesn't take much to wonder why BB is headed out. First store I was in around noon today had just discovered the sale. Instead of keeping the games where they were, they methodically moved every $14.99 and under game from the nice shelves where you could see everything and dumped them into a 4 foot tall cardboard box where you couldn't find a damn thing. And the box was moved all the way on the other side of the store with the for-sale videos.

I can confirm that Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is ringing up $29.99, so that is a no go. And darn, Dissidia PSP was marked $19.99, looks like I have to go back to pick that up with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 PSP.

crap.
Just picked up FEAR2 for PS3 $10.
thought B1G1 is YMMV since there was no sign and the clerk said there is no such sale.
Should have read the thread more before I went to BB.

That reminds me of Hollywood Video 29.99 for 4.99 deal way back. That would make me cry if I miss that chance to get those games T_T

I haven't been able to get Bad Company, Bioshock, or Assassin's Creed :(

I might go to Aurora tomorrow if I have time, I'd really like to get Bioshock 1...

My store didn't have much, but it had a very nicely advertised display for the sale... I just picked up Spiderman Web of Shadows and Transformers for my little brother since it's his birthday tomorrow

Hahahaha, work called me to let me know there is a b1g1 since they know I flip games to amazon.(well they don't call it flipping) From what I remember of inventory, there isn't a ton of profit to be made even with my discount. Crappy night at school so I didn't feel like going. Little did they know I've been expecting the deal for weeks and that's why I put 2 games on hold awhile back.

Well, had a lot of success today, it helps when none of the stores have signs up though. I actually had a store manager tell me there was no b1g1, told him that was alright, just ring me up anyway. The look on his face was priceless.

at my store Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games was $19.99 so it didn't qualify

at another store it was $9.99 but only had generic case...decided agianst it

I thought BBV had universial prices and no it's not a franchise store

Did you have them ring it up, or did u just look at the sticker?

Then it was a pog. I don't know of the price offhand, don't pay much attention to wii games, but did you actually have one of those scanned in the system to verify the price? Either mistakenly priced, one of them, or the 9.99 was a POG(though I thought wii games were 6.99, I don't know because we haven't received any).

^^This!

I got a crapload of games today and still want to get to 3 or 4 more stores. This is the best B1G1 ever!

I will post a complete list later but I found a few gems like NSMB DS for $9.99, Big Brain Academy Wii for $9.99, Ratchet & Clank Future Tools (the older one) PS3 for $9.99, Mario Party DS for $9.99, Super Mario Galaxy for $14.99, SSBB for $14.99, and KH DS for $14.99 (thanks to someone's post because it was tagged $19.99). All of course were actually half the prices listed after pairing them up.

I went to 4 stores, and 3 had signage up but for the most part I seemed to be the only person interested in any of it. The 4th store knew about the sale but they are closing in 5 days. I think he meant at that point they were starting liquidation because the B1G1 still worked, but he said it wouldn't when they "closed", but that the games would all go on sale (typical liquidation crap where they will be 20% off for weeks thus costing more than with the B1G1 ).
