Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Yes, it's true about the nintendo thing. Each store earlier this week had to go to Gamestop and preorder a certain amount of copies of super mario galaxy 2 (usually 5-7) depending on revenue of the store. They are going to be used as rentals and I guess to fill any preorders, though I don't know of anyone preordering a copy.

We are in the process of reorganizing the game section and there is going to be a renewed effort to promote the trade in program. I haven't seen any promo type of stuff so I don't know why they think things will change.
While we were waiting monday for red dead the store manager was talking to her rep after she got a call from the DM that all reservations for Mario Galaxy 2 are to be cancelled. Gamestop is not allowed to sell to sellers or dealers. This may hold true to all bbv but can say for certain. All i know is the stores in my area are to cancel the preorders.
Gamestop is not allowed to sell to sellers or dealers.
Only if someone is dumb enough to admit that they're buying to resell.

Even though I already got a copy of RDR, maybe it would behoove me to snag some of those incomplete TSM's I saw and get a cheap Special Edition...just in case.

Actually GS corporate has allowed up to 5 preorders per one person/blockbuster.

BB originally wanted 8 and corp was like well... you can have 5. Pretty humorous if you ask me.

The only games I want right now are Red Dead Redemption and Just Cause 2....3 BBV's had neither (although, I did not expect any to have RDR anyways).
I did see some good games, but I passed. Borderlands, Heavy Rain, GOW3, Mario.

I just noticed the GameStop...trade 2, get $40 off. I will have to see what games qualify for that and maybe get a few now.

EDIT: I went back, picked up a few things to trade towards RDR

I ended up getting:
2X - Toy Story Mania - $14.99 (1 I will keel for my daughter...she is into Toy Story)
1 -Hasbro Family Game Night 2 - Marked $6.99 (Rang up $29.99....they overrode. I may keep or trade in, I know the RDR deal is going on for a while)
1-Fear Files Expansion - $6.99

Not bad....$34 for everything.

I may get some other stuff on Monday...assuming the sale is still going.

OK, what the hell is up with this sale? This is the first day I've been able to get to my two local BBs, both of which are regular, non-franchise stores that always participate in the B1G1 etc - I tried buying two $14.99 games at each store, and nothing happened.

First store - Found 2 Toy Story manias. Totalled out at $32.xx. I asked if there was a sale on games. The guy said no.

Second store - Found a Toy Story and PS3 Rock Band 2. Totalled them up, again $32.xx. I asked again if there was a sale, this time I specified that it was B1G1 half off. The guy then phoned someone, asked if there was a B1G1 half off, and the answer came back : No.

So... how do I get them to honor this sale?

Another question : What does a used 360 Assassin's Creed II ring up for? I've seen $7.50, $14.99, and $29.99 all mentioned in the last few pages.

Print that out and show it to them. It's accessible through a link on their corporate website.

Also, Ass. Creed II is $29.99.

Are you sure they were corporate stores?

Another crappy flip opp: Tekken 6 for PS3 is $25.00, $12.50 @ 50% and can be used in the "trade 2 get $40 for smg2, ufc, rdr" promo. I should have held onto the one I got during the glitch for this promo instead of sending it to gazelle, damn it.
Are you sure they were corporate stores?
Yeah absolutely, they've always had the same prices and sales as every other BB.

Thanks for the tip, safire. I can't wait to bring in the Facebook printout and then stand there for 20 minutes as guy at the register tries to figure out how to do the sale :D

For once, they apparently do need to scan a barcode to make this one work. The register does not do it automatically. So if an employee doesn't know about it, he or she won't scan that barcode. Taking in the facebook printout, and maybe suggesting they should have a barcode near the register, may do the trick.

I thought I'd gotten away from barcode sales with the death of HWV....

Yeah, on Tuesday when the auto 50% off didn't work, it took all of about 2 minutes of the clerks looking through some papers (presumably the MAP or something) to find info about the sale. There was no bar code, so they had to enter the code manually, but it did the trick. So, yeah, dino, I'd say you had some clueless/lazy clerks there.

Also, thanks for the link safire, I'll add it to the OP.

This sale has been really frustrating due in part to the slim pickins but mainly because all except two stores knew about the sale. I would inform them there should be a sale. Of course instead of checking to see if I'm correct, they would tell me they had a sale last month but it was already over. Eventually they would realize I was right. It was really rough going at one store I hit up twice. I came across a manager that didn't want to budge even though I told her I bought some games the day before. She eventually did a manual credit for the discount, but only after I showed her my receipt (luckily I still had it in my wallet).

Well I took my two TSM's to Gamestop and got RDR special edition, but it wasn't easy finding that S.E. version. I was only able to find one store that still had extra copies for sale and it was for the PS3. All the other stores kept telling me I should have preordered.

Had to go to a GS about 15 miles away, but it gave me an excuse to check a couple of BBV's out there (man, I'm a glutton for punishment).

The trip turned out pretty well as the first store had one TSM and a Mario Power Tennis (another game that qualifies for the GS trade promo). So I'm going to trade these two games in for SMG2:bouncy:

The second store had another TSM, a Beatles RB

and KH 358/2. Kingdom Hearts and Beatles for Wii were the big surprise for me as I thought KH was wiped out during the last sale and this is the first time that I saw Beatles
iconwii.gif
for sale, let alone at $14.99 (I don't remember if Beatles on Wii was already reported at that price)

Either no local CAGs hit those stores or they were just switched out for sale. Definately got lucky with that entire trip.:D

Indeed - it dropped on the very last day of the B1G1 along with Toy Story Mania - those two were the main targets of most of us on that last Monday of the B1G1 ;).

So I have two questions:

One, could some post a link to the coupon that needs to be scanned? The Facebook post I'm seeing is the advertisement...

And two: Should I just wait untill the upcoming B1G1 for 14.99 and unders to pick up some Toy Story Manias/Beatles Rock Bands? It starts June 1st or somewhere around there correct

I remember looking for TSM back then as well as Beatles. I probably just forget since I never saw the PS3 or Wii versions on sale.

But I did find a good number of 360 versions;) Too bad that TIV tanked as I've seen anywhere from 5-10 copies at each store.

1) There is no "coupon". We are talking about a code/bar code that the cashiers have to scan to get the deal to work - it is an internal thing to BBV, though. None of us have it, though an insider might be able to tell use the number. I'm not sure how much good that would do you though.

2) Considering that this sale runs at least until June 7th, I don't see how a regular B1G1 will start on June 1st. I don't think anyone ever gave any concrete info on the regular B1G1 returning. Someone asked when they "usually" do it and someone responded with "summer - June or July". Everyone is taking that to mean it starts up right after (or during, apparently) this current sale. I'd say, if anything, this current sale means the regular B1G1 $14.99 and under will be pushed back. Who knows when it will be - might not be until the late summer or Fall, even. Until we hear something from an insider about an actual start date then it is all speculation.

The trip turned out pretty well as the first store had one TSM and a Mario Power Tennis (another game that qualifies for the GS trade promo). So I'm going to trade these two games in for SMG2:bouncy:
I did not notice Mario Power Tennis on that list. Thank you so much; I've got something to pair with my TSM. It's another viable flip during this sale but probably one of the hardest titles to find. And just to reiterate, the real gold here is Mario Super Sluggers and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Summer Games.

As far as predicting the next b1g1 free, what would experience suggest considering this current sale so quickly followed the last? Is this unprecedented, and is blockbuster trying all the tricks in the book to stave off financial doom?

So Toy Story Mania, Mario and Sonic Summer, Mario Super Sluggers, and Mario Power Tennis are the flippable titles to Gamestop and are $22.50 for 2 after B1G150 off?

Also, what would be a good pair for Tekken 6 PS3($24.99), since it is also on the list?

Technically Mario and Sonic and Super Sluggers are $15 for 2 after the b1g1 50% off. They list at 9.99.

There appears to be no price drops this week, but look for restocks of some games mainly toy story mania. I bought up all the copies we had and we just got in another 6 copies so I'm sure other stores got restocked with stuff too.

The trade 2 list? GoW Collection is 19.99 and on the list. Same with NMH2 @ 24.99. Great time to speed play them and trade them :)

Just when I thought I was out...

Thanks for the heads up. Should they be available right away?

Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn is $19.99 and on the list for the trade 2, get $40 off. I was able to get Toy Story and Hasbro Family 2 ($6.99 misprice) and I traded for RDR today...although, I got the PS3 version and after reading reviews, I may swap out for the 360 version.

Didn't get any pickups today, but as I was walking out I noticed that the trade-in price board had several games (Skate 3, Lost Planet 2, etc.) listed as $25 TIV. Not remotely good of course, but I thought it was interesting since iirc the max TIV has been $22 for a while now.

Just a note, toy story mania now trades for $20 on Gazelle. I swear it was at $13 a few days ago. You guys may want to lock in a few before the rental conversions because that's what I'm doing...

Yeah, but note that most of those (TSM excepted) will be very hard to find at this point. On the very first day or two of the B1G1 I went to around 8-10 stores and saw all of 2 Mario & Sonic Summer Olympics, ZERO Mario Sluggers, and 1 Mario Power Tennis. If you go out specifically looking for those at this point I think you'll be pretty disappointed.

You could pair up Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics with Tekken 6 since it is also $24.99. I'm not sure if it qualifies for any deals or whatnot, but it might be something to keep.

Just curious - from where? I thought restocks only came from stores that were closing? If that is the case, it would be highly YMMV on stores getting more. I don't think people should expect every store to all of a sudden have 6 more of these. Unless, that is, they are more overstock sent from corporate. They seemed to have overbought certain games like this one and M&S Winter Olympics. But I thought each store was already overstocked - if they have more in storage then that is good news for us but pretty odd.

Yeah, it was $13 for a while. It has been $20 on ezTrade-In/Best Buy the whole time though. But I'd rather trade to Gazelle so I may switch a few over there (I still have some from the original B1G1 ;)). BTW, it is $20 at Amazon, too, so the magical central price DB that all these places use must have changed it for some reason.

restocks come from many stores, not necessarily just closing ones. we received 2 store to store transfers yesterday of pretty much the same games. a bunch of halo odst(like we didnt have enough copies already), drawn to life, toy story, where the wild things are. i dont know how they decide to transfer stuff between stores but we'll transfer out 10-15 games every couple weeks to other stores as well as get stuff in. you would think it would be based on inventory of stuff we sell but some of the stuff we get in just adds to our over flowing inventory of junk.

i agree i dont expect every store to all of sudden get restocked but just be on the lookout since for whatever reason bbv ordered a shitload of toy story mania and i'm sure other stores might get some.

hey everyone. i was wondering what god of war 3 and bioshock 2 (ps3) were going for at blockbusters in the continental us. in hawaii, they were $30 each, so i got both for $45 + tax. now that i'm home, i'm kinda regretting the purchase but whatever.

Well, yeah, if they are sending stuff from one store to another then it seems like it is a zero-sum game. That is, just as many stores will lose their stock of TSM, etc as will gain more via a "restock".

I went to two stores today and the first had no idea about the sale. They couldn't find any info and had to call around to find out about it. Eventually they were able to figure it out. At the second store they thought it was starting next week but after spending 20 minutes (!) in the back, the guy came back with the magic code written down and was able to ring up the sale.

I just got some more of the usual suspects: TSM, Beatles Wii, Beatles PS3, and Cars Race-O-Rama. They even had Beatles for 360 at the second store - haven't seen that around much since the B1G1.

But all in all, this is a very poorly run sale, unless they are doing something like relaunching it next week with propr signage, etc (and maybe an auto-code that works correctly). But it is still on the books for now, so you should be able to get in on it if the clerks are doing their job. I still insist that a true 50% off sale like the glitch last Tuesday would have actually worked out quite well for BBV - they would have raked in tons of cash and gotten rid of their overstock of ODST, GoW III, M&S Winter Olympics, etc, before all those things lose half their value anyway...

Should I risk sending in two scratched up copies of Toy Story to amazon? It's not horribly scratched but in the right light there are a few small ones littered about. I'm just wondering if I should return them to Blockbuster or try and send them off to amazon.
Edit: and I'm pretty sure they are both running fine. I loaded them into my wii and in the disk channel it tells me that I have to update my firmware if I want to play them. So at least my wii knows that there is a readable disk inside the tray.

Be sure to peel off the sticker that says 3d glasses on request. I got my trade denied for missing item, even though they're not included...
Or send them in to gazelle since they don't give a shit. Stop sending stuff in to amazon unless you have to.
QFT. Amazon trade-in is really only good for the occasional DotD or oddball thing that Gazelle doesn't list. But even the DotD sometimes Gazelle will match the day after (that happened with Bayonetta the other day).

Your up early, or late depending on where your at. im the same way though gazelle is my favorite becuase it matches amazons values usually and you get an extra 5% (if you choose amazon credit) . but i have been using dealtree a lot even though they are so slow

Thanks for the gazelle tip. Since I can get an amazon giftcard anyways, that seems like the much better route to go. I'll be out hunting for more toy story copies later today. I'm using cash but that doesn't bother me because I'm using it for amazon items.

I don't know about Amazon but I have sent in ALOT of games to Gazelle and most all of the Wii games I've ever received from BVB are scratched to hell, but I've never had a problem with them giving me full credit.

Two great games for a good deal less than a single game typically costs. I wouldn't have buyer's remorse at all, unless you're short on cash.

I missed this post earlier. Both of those games were $39.99 here last week when the glitch happened. Since your post was from the 22nd it would have been before any drops. So that's strange that the pricing was different (unless they were mistagged). I know for sure GoW was $39.99. I passed on Bioshock 2 even using the 50% off glitch because it was still gonna be too much (I have yet to play the first one!). But it was either $39.99 or $34.99.

thanks guys. i've been playing through gow 3 (which i didn't think i'd like) and it has been awesome. i'm not one for quicktime events but the gameplay has been so great that it hasn't bothered me. the game's pretty misogynist though.
the aphrodite sex scene was fine and even funny, but i could've done without chasing and abusing that one chick through poseidon's castle like some kind of asshole rapist.
anyway, it was great buy overall.

You're pretty lucky. I saw GOW 3 for $39.99 and Bioshock 2 for $29.99 at Kaheka BBV.

@boneless
on saturday, there were at least 4 other gow 3 copies marked as $29.99 at the mililani bbv in mint condition (w/ mint booklets and everything). hopefully not too far of a drive for you. the only other bioshock 2 marked at 29.99 was jacked up though. the pricing on their inventory was weird though. there was a display when you first enter the store w/ used triple aaa titles like gow 3 and bioshock 2 w/ high prices (at least $39 each). but in the used section there were random copies of the aforementioned titles marked down.

they didn't have a diverse selection at all. no bayonetta, just cause 2, etc. they did have 2 copies of the latest ratchet and clank (something about time) marked as $24. one had a booklet, one didn't.
