Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I had the local store here print out their drops for tomorrow. It looks like Brutal Legend & Star Wars were the only thing noteworthy. Some kids games i'd never heard of & naked bros band were dropping to around $4.99. Other than that, Need for Speed Shift is going down to $39.99

Hey anyone place a pre order for Final Fantasy or God of War At Blockbuster. I went in their the other nite and they had a sign telling you that you would get a 5 dollar gift car instantly for placing a pre order for it. I placed the pre order and they told me i couldn't get the gift card until i picked the game up and paid it in full.

if you preorder and pay in full you get the $5 instantly. if you just put $5 down you have wait til you pay it off and pick it up.

Not sure if anyone has checked Rogue Warrior in-store, but it's showing $24.99 online-only which makes me wonder if it's actually $27.99 in-store. That's been the trend I've seen lately with online-only pricing.
I think he means it trades at BBV for 15, and its 17.99 used at gamestop (before edge) so its almost a 1-1 flip
Irishsoccermbw is right. Also here's what I was thinking iO. Say I buy (with GS credit) a copy of Halo Wars for 16.19 after edge. I then trade that in for 15 BBV credit. I use that 15 and roughly 6.16 in cash to buy two of the star wars games. I now go to GS and trade those 2 games in for 48 in credit.

If I deduct the original 16.19 from that 48, I'm left with 21.81 in credit which I purchased for 6.16. That's better than a 3:1 ratio so it satisfies my cash to credit investment ratio and I have 2 BBVs a bunch of GStops within a close radius so I can turn 24 cash into about 96 in credit over my lunch hour.
Picked up Fire Emblem wii last week for $6.99 at Blockbuster. It was a non franchised one btw.
Nice find. Did it have the original cover artwork or was it one of those POG games with a clear generic cover?

Snagged one each of brutal legend and star wars for me tomorrow. I'll try and drop by, trade that and 360 star ocean to gamestop, then go work my 6-11 shift, yay.

FYI I put a copy of deadspace out for sale on ps3, it's 9.99(used of course). I forgot to check if the 360 price would be the same, it usually is, but my store only put a ps3 copy out for sale. Good price on that game if you needed to pick it up.

Picked up No More Heros 2 for the Wii for $9.99. Damn that was a fast price drop!

Also noticed Brutal Legend and Star Wars Clone Wars on 360 were $10

The first bbv deal in ages and of course some jerk has crap all over it with his nonsense. Thank you to the admins for putting a stop to it.

^Actually, I think he was banned for something totally unrelated in another thread. Guy is making a good first impression.

I'm trying to decide if BL is worth the $10. I didn't really like the demo, although I did enjoy the story and cut scenes. I'm going to get Star Wars for my nephew (if they have 2 I'll get one to flip) whose birthday is right around the corner. Thanks for the heads up.

Well the game is nothing much like the demo, which for most people, made them hate the game. I liked both. Thought the main gameplay was a great idea but never really came into it's own, maybe it did in multi-player but I never bothered. Great voice work, unique and awesome world, one of the best soundtracks I've ever had in a game(depending on your tastes, of course) but in the end the game stops a bit abruptly and the major missions feel a bit amateurish in overall game design.

Hah - I don't think it had anything to do with this thread.
Brutal Legend is a must pick up for me its only ten dollars. Is it brand new or used and is it for PS3/360?
If we're talking about weekly price drops in the BBV thread we're talking used.

Now, in case you didn't notice, the Star Wars Republic Heroes game is Amazon's DotD for $12.98. I think I'll grab that given that I'll be in the hospital all day tomorrow and want the PS3 version (less common than the 360 at BBV apparently) and would rather have it new anyway and have Amazon credit to use... Just keep that in mind if you don't want to trawl BBVs for a copy.

Edit: Ugh, I dunno, it might not be worth it for either price:

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/starwarstheclonewarsrepublicheroes

Sounds like a fiver to me (buy it when I can for $5 or less).

Wow, I suppose that guy is showing an impressive amount of doucheness on a massive level (and in a short time frame). Very impressive indeed. ;)

Anyway, I played the Brutal Legend demo and pretty much just enjoyed the hack and slash and jokey parts with jack black. I'm interested in seeing ozzy and lemmy and the other funny dialogue also. I'm not that interested in the RTS elements. I'll probably just try to get it today for $10 and hopefully find time to play it over summer break. Although, I have a little over $200 in BBV credit, so it's not like it's a hard monetary choice for me right now.

^^ I'd definitely snag it then. I played it on a GS->Amazon flip a few weeks back. I lost $1.49 on the transfer ($31.49 -> $30 at the time!) but I just considered that a cheap rental since I beat the game in the 7 days I had to mail it in to Amazon. I'd say it is worth $10 easily. The Star Wars game I'm not so sure about. Any impressions from CAGs on that one? The reviews are awful and it sounds like it might actually be a chore to play through.

That is definitely the way to go if you have Amazon credit.

$12.98 new + no gas mileage + no time wasted is a better deal than $9.99+tax+gas+time for a used copy with possible scratches and possibly no cover art and/or no booklet.

That being said, I'm going to hopefully try a couple BBVs today just because I haven't traded anything into Amazon since they stop having promos, so I have $0 credit. On the other hand, I traded in a bunch of HWV games into BBV, so I have plenty to spare.

What are the odds that amazon has a deal of the day the same day BBV has a huge price drop? It's a funny coincidence. You guys with Amazon credit must be thankful this amazon deal came before you ran around to a bunch of BBVs.
I'll definitely take your advice and every1 else's advice on this thread to buy Brutal Legend. I'm not sure if too many people here are actually inclined on keeping a copy of Star Wars for themselves.

Unless you're an achievement/trophy whore, a big star wars fan, or have children who are big star wars fans, I would wait until the next B1G1 (assuming there ever is another B1G1).

If hawaiiboy has 17 copies, it's not going to be hard to find a copy during a B1G1 down the road. Heck, who knows how long it will take some stores to even tag them to $9.99. I still know stores that have Nights for the Wii still tagged at $9.99 and $14.99. It's been $6.99 now for what, 18-24 months? I know most stores won't have anywhere 17 copies, but you know what I mean.

Also, how has trading into amazon been lately? I mean, are they still sending back games to people with no justifiable reason? I would love to turn some GS credit into Amazon credit, but I don't want them sending my stuff back because they decided they have too much stock or something.

I bought the Star Wars game from Amazon. If it is still holding its value (though we actually don't have a quote for the PS3 version in the GS thread anyway) on Weds when I get it I might just trade it in anyway. Otherwise I'll keep it for the reasons you mentioned (trophy whore/star wars/kids ;)).

As for trades to Amazon, it has been a nice thing with the virtual demise of BBV trading. I sent 5 copies of Brutal Legend in from GS and had no problems with rejection. I also used NBA 2K10, Valkyria Chronicles, and Pikmin Wii (originally from BB) - all without a hitch. I converted a fair amount of my relatively useless GS credit to much more useful Amazon credit. In fact, I might buy the TV they have as a DotD today (thus illustrating how much more useful my credit is over at Amazon vs GS).
I had the local store here print out their drops for tomorrow. It looks like Brutal Legend & Star Wars were the only thing noteworthy. Some kids games i'd never heard of & naked bros band were dropping to around $4.99. Other than that, Need for Speed Shift is going down to $39.99
what kiddie games do you speak of?
what kiddie games do you speak of?
I think they were those games where they teach kids to want to have babies at a young age, or be an ice skater, or own a monkey.

I called GS yesterday and was told the PS3 Star Wars game trades in at $5 base, so....$7.50 with the 50%

I'm 14 minutes from being able to call a GS, but I may wait until about 10 after to call. If they'll let me, I'll check star wars for wii. Can someone else check the 360/ps3 versions/
Star wars republic heroes update for gamestop today

360 still gets $15
Wii still gets $15
I just called and the guy said 4 credit for republic heroes for 360, sounded like he actually looked it up too.
Just called, 360 version gets 4 now :(
Shit. It looks like the gravy train is derailed before it could even leave the station.

Thanks to all who checked. Now I know to avoid Blockbuster for yet another week, though I may buy a copy of Brutal Legend to go with the guides I picked up last week.

I was right about Rogue Warriors being $26.99 @ GS too...also just called several GS in NY to confirm $4-5 TIV for SWCWRH...bust.

Not as good of a flip as gamestop would have been, but just a note that both brutal legend (both ps3 and 360) and the star wars game (all systems) are still listed as a guaranteed at least $20 TIV at Hastings, for those with a B&M near them.

That's pretty tempting for me, as my local Hastings still has like 3 Mass Effect 2 CE's new.

Can anyone check the Wii Version TIV, stores still arent open here and the one guy I talked to said the computers werent up yet.

If your FYE or other Transworld Entertainment store still sells games(my closest is clearing out their stock unfortunately), it should be a $10-11 TIV(even flip just about).

They also give about 20% more for taking credit over cash. But the $10-11 value should be for CASH value, so if you want to convert some BBV credit into cash, this might be an opportunity to do so.

360 version: http://www.secondspin.com/games/sell-product-detail.jsp?id=2897207

Wii version: http://www.secondspin.com/games/sell-product-detail.jsp?id=2897244

PS3 version: http://www.secondspin.com/games/sell-product-detail.jsp?id=2897259

The PS3 version gets $10, while the 360 and Wii versions get $11.

The x360 and wii versions are on the list for GOW and FFXIII so I might try that route and see what happens. Last time a game was removed from the list I argued that the game was on the list so I should get the the deal and the mgr bit so maybe I could get lucky again since I'm assuming that star wars no longer qualifies with a $4 base.

The only problem is unless you can find one of the printed up lists of the promo titles and argue from that list, they could use the 'titles subject to manager's approval' crap AND the 'no duplicates' thing if you tried using one for the 360 and Wii together. Apparently, people at Gamestop corporate don't think that people will 1) have multiple systems and 2) have the same games for those systems.

I got lucky enough with Fairytale Fights on getting them to let me trade in one for both PS3 and 360 ONE time, but they're not very open to allowing it multiple times.

I just called and they said it is still on the list so I will go reserve GoW3 making it $40 which is still a deal. I also platted Dante's Inferno in a day so I will go tiv 25 up to 40 making it a free game experience still. I was hoping for some free credit, was gonna turn 40 into 96 at gs but oh well, thanx all for the info, that was a quick tiv drop, doh.

Where can I find documentation of the $20 value? I have not had much luck getting my Hastings to honor their promos. thanks
