Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

My blockbuster had tons of copies of brutal legend for the 360 but none of them had the case. I'll probably go back in and ask them if I buy it if they mind switching it out for one of the rental display cases they have.

they wont.
they wont.
They've done that for me at every BBV I've bought games at within the last 6 months to a year. They typically keep the extra manuals, cases and artwork behind the counter in a drawer someplace.

Oh, I ended up returning one of the games I got today too. Not too much of a hassle to get it put back on my debit card. Guy asked me if I wanted store credit or to exchange it, and I said 'I want a refund'. He then told me their return policy doesn't allow refunds for used merchandise, so I asked him where this return policy was. He pointed to the receipt, which had no mention of any return policy. Then he dug through a binder to find it, at which point I stated it isn't posted anywhere a customer can see it, and it's not on the receipt, and the only mention of it was a quick mention of 'You have a 30 day return policy' at the time I purchased it.

At that point, he just sort of sighed and refunded it.

I always try to get a real case, cover art and a manual for anyone buying a game. I figure the last person to buy will get screwed, better than the first since the last person could be distribution getting back a defective game. Better them than an actual person. Unless they're super strict or douches, you should have no trouble. We get 1 full game case per rental copy so outside of theft/taken off the shelf, ruined or like an employee taking one home, most of the time the store should have them.

Like you said, if a rental copy has it, you should get dibs anyway. Someone BUYING the game or someone renting it that has no access to the insert, who wins?

I bought a copy of Brutal Legend 360 and Star Wars 360 for myself. I also bought a copy of Star Wars 360 and a copy of Star Wars Wii to hopefully trade towards GOWIII at GS.

I went to 3 stores. The first store didn't have brutal legend, but they had 1 Star wars game for 360.
The 2nd store was a freakin goldmine like hawaiiboy's store. If the star wars game still had a high TIV at GS, I would have made a killing. They had 5 copies of star wars for the wii, 6 for the 360, and 1 for the ps3. They also had 4 copies of Brutal legend for the 360, but zero for the Ps3. All the games at this store had thousands of little scratches on the discs, probably from moving them around in those little paper sleeves. Maybe they were resurfaced, but it don't think so.
The 3rd store just had 2 brutal legends for the ps3.

On a side note, I keep seeing a hell of a lot of Boondock Saints framed art at almost every single store. If anyone ever sees these go on clearance, I would greatly greatly greatly appreciate the heads up. If they're not down to at least $19.99 by the time Boondock Saints II hits dvd/blu ray, I'll just start getting them all price checked. I didn't want to be a jerk and ask for a bunch of price checks on posters when the stores I went to today were busy. Today I did end up buying that "All I need to know about life I learned from Star Wars" framed poster for $14.99. I couldn't help it.

Yet another side note... Those clearance books are really really cheap now. I bought the last Michael J Fox book for $2 and a pretty nice cookbook by a dude from the food network also for $2. I'm guessing they're all two bucks now. Keep in mind I'm talking about the clearance books. I didn't get any of those books from the "bestseller" shelf price checked, like the books for Julie and Julia or Public Enemies, twilight etc.

On yet another stupid side note... I can confirm the Collector's Edition for the Dark Knight Blu-Ray with the little batpod is $19.99. At least it was marked $19.99 at one of the stores I was at today. I would have bought it just as a collectors item, but the box was jacked up.

Hopefully someone finds something in this long drawn out post to be helpful or at least a mildly informative time waster. :p

Correct, the clearance books are even cheaper. Not all 2$ even, but very cheap. Like 20% or less than the msrp. And correct again, the best sellers(that are probably in a bay on the new release wall) are not discounted, I think.

Yeah it's been 19.99 for a month or two. One of the managers bought our copy, I didn't want the batpod that badly for 20 bucks since I already own TDK on blu-ray.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I might need to peruse the books at my local store; might be something worth picking up for the wife.

I didn't pricecheck any of the best sellers, so I'm guessing they must be full price. If they actually want to sell books to people who still rent at BBV, they are going to have to drop the price. All bookstores must have those books at least 30% off MSRP.

I feel the same way as you about the dark knight CE. I already have the Dark Knight blu ray as well, but it's one of my favorite films of all time. On the other hand, if I blew the $20+tax on it today, I'd be kicking myself when a B1G1 sale comes. I guess if I see one in good shape, I'll buy it and keep it sealed and put it on a shelf somewhere to collect dust.:bouncy:

i went 2 a couple stores yesterday and hid bunches of games in the rental areas. This morning i went 2 a store i call "the motherload: which i'd hid a bunch at. 10am rolls around and i go walking in at 1min too when a big red pickup truck with some d-bad wearing a cowboy hat get out of. He walks in after me and i'm at the PS3 section and he's looking in the pre-owned area when i grab a stack of ps3 bl and sw rh, then i walk to the wii section. He then comes walking around the corner and looks to the pre-owned section when i grab a stack of wii sw rh from behind some rental games. I then walk 2 the 360 section and by this point he's following me, so the kind soul i am i only grab 4 of the 360 BL and left one for him. So i walk to the counter and pay for the 13 games i have and he then proceeds to wait in line with 3 games for 10mins while the clerk pulls all the games and rings them up. The look on this dbags face was priceless!

So i walk to the counter and pay for the 13 games i have and he then proceeds to wait in line with 3 games for 10mins while the clerk pulls all the games and rings them up. The look on this dbags face was priceless!
LOL at the cowboy hat dbag guy following you around the store. The games couldn't have been tagged 9.99, right? He must of just known u had the motherfuckin hookup. Also, what are you going to do with those 13 games if you don't mind me asking.:)
i went 2 a couple stores yesterday and hid bunches of games in the rental areas. Seriously? I'm the douche bag? I didn't care that you got a crap load of games, as I made out fine going to other stores in the area. The only look on my face wasn't from you getting so many, but from having to wait for the manager as he took his sweet time asking if you wanted popcorn and candy for $3 instead of just getting you your games.

Of course, you might be talking about some other 'dbag' somewhere else, but it sounds remarkably like the first store I went to this morning. I appreciate you leaving the one 360 BL that was complete, though. My wife wanted that game, so it was cool to find a complete copy.

Picked up Star Wars and Ghostbusters both for 360. Both had original cases but Ghostbusters was missing the booklet.

I saw copies of Star Wars earlier but they were still marked at $24. I'm guessing they will ring up at $9 once the clerk scan it right? If so, I'll stop by tomorrow.
Were you wearing a cowboy hat, Maskim?
Yup. I wore my cowboy hat today. It's a badass rocker hat. I feel the need to explain that as everyone around here thinks they're cowboys, so I always have to point out it's in a rock style. ;) Also, my pickup isn't big. It's a Dakota, so it's actually pretty small compared to most. I suppose it's pretty large compared to a little Saturn, though.

Also, I feel the need to clarify (if I am the 'dbag' in question) that I wasn't following anyone around the store. Simply making the rounds. Check the bins first, as they're closest to the door, then ps3 as that's next down the line, then wii and 360. To whoever cleaned out that store, whether they're in this thread or not, congrats on a nice haul. I have no problem with not getting the games, as I'm all for first come first served. I do take issue with being called a dbag when I've done nothing douchey though. :p

Woah sorry man the cowboy hat and pickup truck is kewl but i thought u were a slickdealer come to get in on our deals but LOL on anther fellow CAG in my area....i'll be watching for your red shinny truck from now on!!!!!

make sure they are checking the pre owned price...
the clerk scanned BL (marked at 24.99) but told me it was $20
I took it back sadly then the manager came back and said is there something we can help you with...I told her BL was suppose to be $10
then on our way back to counter ...clerk says...oh srry I was looking at the price for a NEW copy.

I almost walked past a great deal...so do your research

THX OP!

Awesome! Two guys having a epic markdown showdown, chasing each other around a store at opening for $10 games, neither knowing they've warring with a fellow CAG!

fuckin' Classic!!!

The big philosophical question. Which makes you more of a d-bag?
1) wearing a cowboy hat, or
2) grabbing "stacks" of clearance games

Hmmmm.....:whistle2:k

S'okay ;)
I had assumed you were a slickdealer too. Not that it matters, really. Did you hit up any other stores? I didn't make the rounds until after noon, as I had to get to my Crim Law class. LL and Shadle were a complete bust, but South Hill had quite a bit more than I expected. They had at least a copy or two of SW and Mario & Sonic left over at around 6pm, too.

I moved back from seattle last year because I grew up here and SCC has one of the best Criminal Justice programs in the nation. That and cost of living here is nothing compared to the west side of the state.

Thanks. I appreciate it. Don't get me wrong, I'm a total ass/d*ck/dbag/whatever... I just wasn't being one at the time.

My girlfriend picked up two copies for me here in Muscatine, Iowa. I'm hoping that we'll able to flip them at GS, but if not, I'll keep a copy for myself and give one to my younger brother. Thanks, OP.
Does anyone know the price on L4D2 used?
I saw it today at BBV used marked $39.99. Not positive that's the correct price, but it seems to make sense.

Can you really complain about a slickdealer when you were straight up hoarding yourself? I believe that's the reason most people don't like SD users around here because they hoard and yet there you are hoarding but at the same time calling someone else a dbag? There is something terribly wrong with that picture.

I really hope you're stuck with all those games now that Brutal Legend is 19.99 MSRP, dick.

lol at the guys running into each other.. at least maskim was cool about it. Seems like the other guy ended up being the douche. ;)

I didn't go out to any stores. I already own brutal legend and don't care about the star wars game.
I believe the correct procedure for a chance meeting of CAGs is to split the games in question evenly.
We should really have a secret handshake or a sign or something - so we know another CAG is in the vicinity. I often have my suspicions, but you can't really walk up to someone and ask them if they're a cheapass unless you're prepared for some mild social discomfort.
I believe the correct procedure for a chance meeting of CAGs is to split the games in question evenly.
Right, because you will know they are a CAG because of the bumper sticker on the car or the super secret double hand shake.

Needless to say I am sure if a guy is eye balling you and you ask hey you from CAG they will just say yup and split the games.

Dont get me wrong I love helping out another CAG but unless I meet them here and speak to them here and PM them to help out I go on the asumption that they are not apart of the CAG comunity

That wasn't my way of doing things like 4 years ago or so when Circuit City had the Marc Ecko's Getting Up LE/CE for under $10. I was El Hoardo back then and when I bumped into another CAG at the store while I had 2-4 of them in my hand, he asked for one and I think I asked for the price FYE was gonna give me for one of them in cash at the time.

Mind ya, I've changed a bit since then(I've gotten more selective with my guide grabs on penny guide drop days), but if a game is supposed to come up free or nearly free and is a good flip, I'm still grabbing all dem shitz I can.

^THIS.

That's why I made my comment. I don't mine if someone hoards a bit (first come, first served), but to hoard and then dis the other, innocent guy at the same time....? Total d*ck move. I'm glad he backed off and apologized and nobody's feelings were hurt.

Personally, I like running into fellow board members (either CAGS or from other sites I visit). If I see someone eyeballing a game that I know is way cheaper elsewhere (especially if it's a dad with a kid) I tell them where they can get it. I did that a couple of months ago, and the guy thanked me and tried to tell me about another deal. Then he said, "I go to this site called cheap ass gamer..." LOL. I said I was a CAG, too! We smiled and shook hands. It was nice. It's not always about competition. Sometimes it's nice to meet someone with a common interest. :)

At least the one guy has a gf. How many people here on Cag have real relationships? lol I have a wife n 3 kids so I know I'm good, but lots of people on this site seem to worry more about saving a few dollars than being a decent human. I try to save as much cash as I can, but that's cuz I have this damn kb habit :)

That's so unbelievably rude. I can understand wanting to make a profit and being a greedy bastard. Most of us have been there. But that's just beyond selfish.

Thanks CAG-ers. I don't often go over to BBV but I did and I snagged:
Brutal Legend 9.99 (360-complete, the guy was nice enough to dig for the manuals. Last copy on sale).
Tomb Raider 9.99
Stranglehold 6.99

I don't have to waste my goozex points on brutal legend now.

For really great flips, finders keepers. Usually if someone wants the game for themselves and actually approaches me, I give one up for them. Had it happen once.

Picked up Brutal Legend. Great game. Anyone who gets it just for flipping should really give it a chance. Really good melding of genres.

I do that, when I see someone looking for a game they can get cheaper elsewhere. I usually catch them outside of the store, though, as I don't like stealing a sale from the store. Like when I was in gamestop last, there was someone looking for Heavenly Sword, so I waited until after he left because they didn't have it in stock, and told him I had seen it clearanced locally for like $10. He thanked me, and presumably went to go buy it. I won't do it in the store, as I see that as a dick move. Probably from back when I used to sell cars, and you'll be sitting there working a deal and someone unrelated to the transaction would come up, at the table while doing paperwork, and be like 'they got the same car for less at so and so'.
