Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I was able to get Brutal Legend (360) and 1 Wii/1 360 SW. I promptly traded the Star Wars to GameStop and pre-ordered GOW III. She took like 15 minutes to figure out the trade in offer....I ended up getting like $23 each for the Star Wars....nice.

I was able to pick up:

-Brutal Legend for PS3 X2
-Ghostbusters for PS3
-Republic Heroes for PS3
-Republic Heroes for WII

$52.50 out the door. Woohoo!

Gotta love Blockbuster...I went to trade in two copies of Halo Wars. Had one already and bought another with Gamestop credit to flip. Anyways, when I tried to trade in, the girl saw a gamestop sticker and said "i dont know if we can take games that are already preowned". Seriously? What? If I owned it and trade it in it is already preowned... After talking to her and her manager for a minute telling them how used is used no matter who had the game, I got the $15 TIV for each.

I was able to pickup 1 SW Republic Heroes for Wii and another for 360. Also got a Brutal Legend complete. Paid $2 and change for the tax and went straight to GS to give them the two SW games for preorder of FF13. Added about $12 credit to what I had at GS (will cancel the FF13 preorder down the road) and only $2 out of pocket for BL. BTW guys, looking at TRU trade in site online, they say they are giving $9.20 for 360 and $8.65 for PS3 versions of BL. In case you dont want to trade in to GS for their $4 TIV.

so what is the base TiV for star wars?

One of the local BBV's around me was restocked.

Grabbed a SWRH for wii. It was tagged with the old price, but rang up automatically $10.00. Have another not so related deal. A box of candy, bag of popcorn, and a 20 oz soda...individual combination of the 3 for $3.00. Not too bad.

Really hoping a B1G1 free sale pops up.

Or 2 candy, 2 sodas, 1 popcorn for 5. Or 2 2 liters, 3 candy, 2 popcorn for 7! ;)

By the way, that store was probably smiling for real as you left because you got them a candy bundle.

Anyone notice new rental pricing in the last few days? Not that I ever rent from BBV anyway, but games are now $7 for 4 days. I think before they were either $7.99 or $8.99 for 5 days? Not sure. I've never actually rented a game there, I don't think. Also, new release movies are now up to $4.99 for 5 days, and they reinstated $1/day late fees, no more 10-day grace period. There were fliers up on the doors at the two BBVs I stopped at on my lunch earlier today.

Got shot down at 2 games stops today with Star Wars. I love how they still have it on the website but will not honor it.
We should really have a secret handshake or a sign or something - so we know another CAG is in the vicinity. I often have my suspicions, but you can't really walk up to someone and ask them if they're a cheapass unless you're prepared for some mild social discomfort.
Maybe the secret sign should be two tugs on the left ear.

As far as central florida is concerned, we had slightly different terms for a long time when compared to the rest of the country. As of monday, a ton of stuff changed, not one change good for a customer(unless the thought of more late fees make movies come back faster, which is the only spin blockbuster can do to make it seem "good"). My games are $9 for 5 days, up 1 dollar, ps2/psp/ds still $6. All movies are $5 for 5 days, old movies used to be $4, no grace period(used to have until day 10) and our day rentals stayed the same($2 for an oldie, $3 for anything new). Not sure how much of that is local only or national.

Oh and something awesome, if you have a CC on file and return something late, the charges automatically post to your card after closing if not paid that day. This is a really good time to quit, but I'm not far enough along in my bachelor's to get an internship =/

which system for star wars? Obviously if you brought in more than 1 copy of the same system your gonna get denied
At least the one guy has a gf. How many people here on Cag have real relationships? lol I have a wife n 3 kids so I know I'm good, but lots of people on this site seem to worry more about saving a few dollars than being a decent human. I try to save as much cash as I can, but that's cuz I have this damn kb habit :)
 At least by not having a gf/wife, I don't hear 'you're going back to Best Buy for what now' every other f'n day, since I thus far have not been lucky enough to find a woman who's into gaming like I am. Most view it as 'kid's stuff' and those women can kiss my ass, since I'd give them up before I'd sell my games for them.
That's so unbelievably rude. I can understand wanting to make a profit and being a greedy bastard. Most of us have been there. But that's just beyond selfish.
I was a totally different person then. Then again, with the Fairytale Fights and Sudoku Ball Detective coupons at Best Buy I went nuts grabbing copies of each, since the TIV's were just too good to pass up.

To me though, there's far too many people on here who go on nearly the last day of a deal and expect to find anything left, then they come on here and cry if they can't find it. You have to make time to get the deals if you truly want them.
For really great flips, finders keepers. Usually if someone wants the game for themselves and actually approaches me, I give one up for them. Had it happen once.
Usually, I get people behind me(and the clerks too) in line going 'holy shit' when stuff rings up super cheap and I just smile.

lol I make my girlfriend come with me every time I find out about a deal. She's been there when I picked up the 360 with the $100 GC at Wally World, when I picked up MW2 at midnight, everytime I pick penny guides, and every other time. I was told by my last ex gf that she supported my hobby, but that changed slowly and that is why she is an EX. Yet I was supposed to sit there and listen how she was going to do this and that with both our money in her grandiose pipe dreams for a house the Rockefellers would be proud to call home.

Vagina or video games. I couldn't decide.

Besides, she doesn't have to like the hobby, but she should at least see that we're trying to be financially responsible and not pay full price. My mom, who hates video games was impressed with the Beatles rock band target purchase. Made a good present to my dad. Save her a ton of cash which she spent on herself.
Those are the general game prices. Somewhere they're a dollar or two cheaper. And in at least one market, they're testing overnight game rentals. ($2 Wii/PS3/360, $1 the others)

Up here, they added games to direct access. So if there's a game we don't have in the store, we can have it mailed to you. It's still $9, but you get the game for a week, and you can exchange it for a discounted rental in the store (movie for $1.99 or another game for $4.99).

Do they ever grow out of that ??

Picked up BL for $10 , 3 left at a certain escondido BB.
Oh and something awesome, if you have a CC on file and return something late, the charges automatically post to your card after closing if not paid that day. This is a really good time to quit, but I'm not far enough along in my bachelor's to get an internship =/
Wow... just wow....

Brb while I go rent a game like Ghostbusters for the 360 for $9. Oh wait, I can buy it for $9.99. Oh wait, BBV just filed for bankruptcy, oh well.
j/k

The last hollywood video left within like 300 miles of me is closing. How long before BBV?

While they're making so many fantastic business decisions, we should check to see if they raised the videogame TIVs back up to where they used to be. Maybe they'll let us trade Cranium Kabooki in again for $16 up until they day they liquidate. It would make almost as much sense as renting a 6 year old dvd for $5 for 5 days or renting a ps2 game for $6. I haven't looked at the ps2 games at BBV since 2005. Do they have any ps2 games that cost more than $6?

Sorry the rambling. I'm just pissed because if every blockbuster enacted these new rental policies, I think it's seriously the beginning of the end. They must be in even worse financial trouble than we think if they're pulling stupid shit like this.

One of my managers who has been working part time at blockbuster for like 10 years has some good insight. Before it gets said, he's the best employee at the store and just has it as a side job for some extra money and free rentals. Apparently the last stockholders meeting went bad and the numbers are just as bad, even though technically blockbuster is doing better right now than it was a few years ago. However, if you have automatic charges, and more rentals with late fees, your numbers will look better in the short term. I think he has the right idea.

Oh and one good thing, I guess, the "must return by date" was the 20th day after renting, after that it was yours to keep. You can keep it out till day 30 or 40(it's hard to tell with the crappy stuff I've read), you just get credit on the account rather than a refund of the purchase price past 20 days. Lol not really noteworthy.

We had day rentals on games like half a year ago. They got rid of it at our location. Too bad as outside of a game pass I felt it was the absolute best way to test games out before buying. Well I guess gamestop's 7day policy works too, lol, but this way you weren't going around the system.

You guys wanna know something funny? My girl bought me a PS3 for Christmas with a shitload of games. She's also bought me quite a few 360 games. :p Man I love that woman.

On a side note, it would be nice if L4D2 dropped some time soon at BBV, since I just traded in my copy that I got on BF, I need another one. lol

It will eventually. Most of the time they don't drop games fast enough it seems. Too many stay 10-20 higher than the competition, but unlike gamestop, games pretty much do nothing but fall in price. I very rarely ever price a game higher than it was(but we do that to hundreds of movies a month).

My wife is awesome in that she is a pretty big gamer and fully supports my Cheap Ass Gaming. She's even helped me flip a few games at GS whenever I don't have the time to do it myself.

BL already dropped 19.99 on gamestop so no go here, can anyone else confirm SW: Republic no longer working for the GOW 3/FF 13 promo @lamestop?

The numbers will go up, but at the cost of customer loyalty and overall customer satisfaction. I guess if the new policies are clearly posted in the store and maybe if employee's give customers a heads up about the changes, then that helps.

When I was a kid, my mom and I would rent stuff at BBV all the time. Renting VHS and Sega Genesis games all the time was a great way to bribe me (along with Mcdonalds). When BBV started changing the policies on late fees back and forth even back in those days, we decided to never rent there again (and we never did). We started subscribing to HBO, the disney channel (it used to cost $), the Sega Channel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Channel , etc etc etc, so Adelphia just got all of our business and it's been that way ever since for me. (except adelphia got autoswitched to comcast).

Damn, the Sega Channel was the freakin shit back in the day. Now I remember how I got by before CAG:D

Totally I don't disagree. We were thinking about corporate's reasoning, trust me when I say I know this is going to suck for both store employees and customers.

You're so cute though. You think posting something and then telling(yes, every single time someone comes up) the new rules that they'll listen and understand :D I do my best, some might not know how to explain it very well and others might not do it often enough. It's going to end badly at my store I know. Once I go in friday I'll have to deal with the fallout since monday was my last day of work and none of the changes really made a difference yet. You couldn't already have fees on something you rented that day(mental note: if I can make that happen, I might be able to make ceo!)

Sorry if I'm soapboxing, but my store manager is way too serious and up tight(about this stuff specifically) though the assistant and I joke about how much backwards crap goes on around here. I love when the store manager says crap and I make a joke about getting fired or blockbuster folding and she gives me a stern look, like totally: "yes it's my fault blockbuster is so desperate they'll threaten to fire me if I don't sell enough candy bundles". I really just can't take that seriously.

You should ask her to yell "Achievement Unlocked" when she's um, you know.

Or you can say it afterward and see if she laughs.

Classic.

My wife was pretty cool in the beginning with my hobby. She bought me a PS3, DSi, and PSP systems over the years and she would follow me to Target, Sears, GS, GC, etc. She was suprised at the deal or flip and was honestly happy for me. But slowly over 2 years, I would get a "we were just there last week" or "why are you buying that, you don't even have a Xbox 360". Then she noticed my backlog. It's my fault because I sorted the games into finished, finished but still playing, and not opened/played (big mistake). She realized I was buying more games than playing. So I promised to play more before buying anymore games...so once in a while, I just randomly move not played game into the finished pile. Everything is cool again. We just picked up BL for BBV.

My wife is not a gamer , but doesn't mind when I play ;).

Same situation for me but my wife doesn't care seeing as I make 90% of it back from trades funny thing is she plays 90% of the games I do and is a die hard FF fan:bouncy:

It might have been posted before, but Crisis Core: FF7 is 9.99. I just hope they run a b1g1 before they close the rest of their stores.

Same here, my wife is very little into games, good thing is she has her own habit/hobbies that she spends money on, so she cant tell me I buy too much. I still spend way less than she ever willl.
which system for star wars? Obviously if you brought in more than 1 copy of the same system your gonna get denied
I had one for 360 and one for the Wii. They tried to accept them with the deal but then they couldn't get the offer to work. After that they decided to read their notes and determined that they could't do it.

My wife games too, so she's pretty accepting of all my deal hunting. She'd rather me pay half off for what I'd end up buying anyways, by waiting for clearances and flipping, than pay full price. It helps that she reaps the rewards of my hobby, as well.

Count me as one of the extremely lucky ones. My wife isn't a gamer at all, but she totally supports my habit. Every time we drive by a Gamestop, she asks if I want to go in. And if I'm waffling on a new purchase (because I have tons of unplayed games) she'll often offer to buy it for me as a gift. We joke that she's an enabler. LOL. But hey, we all have our thing, right? I don't give her flak for buying purses and shoes. (And Target has good clearances on both our addictions, so we check there all the time!) :D

Enjoy your games for now guys, because she'll be taking half of them with her *wink*

Couldn't find brutal legend unfortunately, but I did snag Fuel for $10, been wanting to play that for a while. A couple other cheaper games I've been wanting to try, but since no one seems to shop in my area I figured they're not really worth it for now and maybe I'll wait for another B1G1. Also came across that Playboy game for $3, looks dumb but it's semi-rare so I figure it was worth it.

I'll chime in as another lucky one. My fiance fully supports my addiction. Luckily she is pretty hooked on the internet so she's more than happy sitting next to me on the laptop while I game. She's not to much of a gamer but she get's excited for certain things. She made me go out and get her the Tekken 6 fightstick bundle because she loves fighting games and recently she got hooked on playing drums with band hero.
She realized I was buying more games than playing. So I promised to play more before buying anymore games...so once in a while, I just randomly move not played game into the finished pile. Everything is cool again.

HAHAHA....I just keep mine in shoe boxes in the closet!

My wife supports my gaming habit because she knows that I rarely pay a dime out of pocket for my games. When I initially found CAG, I used the site to find deals on games that I paid for out of pocket. However, I developed a hoarder's mentality and purchased a lot of games just because they were cheap. I got in late on the BBV to GS flips, but I was still able to get myself a Wii and a full Rock Band 2 kit.

In the past year, I've taken to doing online surveys and have earned a decent amount of money from that, so I haven't had to pay for any games using money earned from my 9-5 job for about a year and a half. However, my wife and I are having our 2nd child, so my survey money is being used more for household items.

At this point, I've adopted a very strict policy on purchasing games only when I don't have anything left in my backlog to play. However, with Gamestop's recent trade-in promo, I've unexpectedly been able to build up about $200 in credit. That's close enough for me to consider getting a PS3, which I had planned on buying on 3 separate occasions. Instead, I purchased other items such as my Wii and Rock Band 2 kit (for social gaming purposes) and a netbook for my wife.

I'm hoping for one more B1G1 sale from BBV to get me over the hump. At this point in the PS3's life cycle, there are enough good cheap games out there to justify a purchase. Hopefully, the B1G1 sales comes sooner rather than later...

I think I'm going to avoid the whole "wife" discussion, seeing as I took almost everything in the divorce. It was her fault, though, so don't feel bad for her. My girlfriend, however, actually encourages my deal-hunting adventures. We do a weekly thrift store trek, I look for my stuff, she looks for hers. It works out great.

As far as preordering at GS, I had no trouble getting them to take Star Wars for the 360. It looks like the girl had a little problem, but without hesitation she just did an override on the prices to take them to $20/each. As an added bonus, since she did it manually, it still automatically gave me the 50% bonus to the original trade values, so I actually ended up getting $46.xx in credit. :D

Not to stray any furthur off topic but get ready for the next round of store closings. We had our district business review today and 2 more stores in our area are becoming "outlet" stores. That's 4 down in our district.
as my title says both of these games got price drops for used at my 3 local blockbusters. Seems like a decent enough deal.
Hey I just got back from gamestop where I live in H-Town and was able to pull of the Star Wars Wii/360 combo for $40 towards Final Fantasy 13. Just make sure when you go to point out the flyers that are in all stores that list the games and that should help. The guy at the counter had to overide but the good thing about that it automatically bump them up to 24 a piece making it 48 dollars. Not bad since I got the Wii version for 9.99 at BB and 12& change at amazon. Now to do the same thing tomorrow for God of War 3. The funnu thing is that I have both of games preordered at Amazon for much cheaper so I will just return them after they come out in the coming weeks.
