Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

But Houston is 7 characters, whereas H-Town is only 6. Think about how much time you're saving if someone asks you where you're from every day. I wish I was from LA, so I could say I'm from L-Town to the Angel Citayyyy.

I got kinda lucky to trade in SW republic heroes, it's YMMV if your gamestop has received the e-mail to not take the trade in for FF 13/GOW 3 promo

What's this about cheap games at BBV? ;)

Seriously, I haven't even bothered going there this week on account of this:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=13116

So I'm glad I ordered a SW Republic Heroes from Amazon on Sunday for the kids. I'm sure I could still find one somewhere but I don't feel like wasting the time even to go to my local BBV.
Not to stray any furthur off topic but get ready for the next round of store closings. We had our district business review today and 2 more stores in our area are becoming "outlet" stores. That's 4 down in our district.
My districts being hit too. 2 stores are "closing." I don't know if they are permanently closing or becoming outlet stores. It's a huge surprise though. The two stores that are closing have been doing great sales wise. No idea why they are getting rid of them =/. As long as none of the staff is transferred over to my store, I don't care. A friend and I are so close to becoming Shift Leaders... If someone gets transferred over and takes my SL spot, I will break their face.

Often a chain will close a store not because of poor sales but because it has high rent/overhead.

I'll be really unhappy if my local bbv closes. The people are really nice, but they've been way more (politely) pushy about preordering and buying games lately. I wonder if they know the axe is getting ready to fall. The store is incredibly busy but maybe that won't matter.
So this is really BBVs last year in business?
It would seem so for both Blockbuster and Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery/Gamecrazy unfortunately. If all of those chains do go out though there will be so many more people outta work and competing with me for the few jobs out there.

I feel sorry for everyone working for these two chains and not knowing if today might be the last day they're working for them or not(see all of the HWV store lockouts).
I think that's how cool people say "Houston" when they only want to say two syllables for a two-syllable city.
Gotcha, thanks. There's a Hagerstown around here that people call "H-Town"(which I must say fits the abbreviation way better than Houston), and since all of the blockbusters have closed in the area I wanted to see where he was getting his stuff.

I lost all 3 blockbusters in my city, which was a real shame. All 3 were unfranchised(if I'm using the term correctly) and had amazing prices, AAA games were put up for sale usually a month after release and were never more than $20. There's some franchised stores a half hour or so out, but except for the occasional B1G1 it never seems worth the trip.
So this is really BBVs last year in business?
Seems like it. BBV has enough cash on hand to run this business for one more year. After that, it's bankruptcy. But BBV isn't trying to succeed on its own. BBV is trying to get rid of its debt as much as possible and then hope for a buyout. That's really the only way to save BBV at the moment. Right now the company is about 900 million in debt, but with the company's current assets it can reduce that debt to 300 million. This new rental policy is really going to be the make or break scenario everyone's envisioning. BBV should have never gotten rid of late fees. You simply do not get rid of a $600 million /year part of your business.

Ironically, a few years ago Blockbuster almost bought Circuit City but backed out at the last minute. Nobody would buy Blockbuster, they are too big and don't make any money. Redbox and Netflix are killing them. Who pays $4 for a rental anyway? $1 buck at Redbox. Done!

Or $0 at your local library. I pretty recently rented zombieland, whip it, black dynomite, surrogates, whatever works, the invention of lying, michael jackson's this is it, 9, moon, paranormal activity, the hurt locker, land of the lost, extract, and a lot more movies at the library for a total of $0.00. I'm a CAG, but I'm a cheap ass moviewatcher first and foremost. :whistle2:$

There's also itunes, that apple box, amazon video on demand, cable on demand, and a hell of a lot better choices than paying $5 per movie. I'm just happy that some people still rent at BBV because I want them shits to stay open so I can continue getting good deals like Brutal legend and Clone Wars.

Couple hundred people I see a week do =) Come on, that's like saying who pays 60 bucks for games; a lot of people do, actually.

You didn't rent them, you "borrowed" them.

Hopefully people keep renting at BBV, like people keep buying $60 games and expensive collector's editions at full price.

I'm definitely thankful that lots of people buy games for $60. It helps fund the industry so that developers can make more and more good games.
Buying games like Call of Duty for 60 is great, but I kind of hate people who spend $60 on stuff like Terminator Salvation, Lost Via Domus, Wanted: Weapons of fate, etc. They are just feeding the system of shit-ass movie based games. Maybe if no one buys them, they won't make so much garbarge. Then maybe every once in a while we'd see stuff like Wolverine instead.
You didn't rent them, you "borrowed" them.
I borrow them for 10 days. Then after 10 days they start charging me 10 cents a day! OMFG, what a ripoff! ;)

Oh yeah, and there are no lines at the library and no one tries to sell you candy and pickles :applause:

Borrowing kicks Renting's ass.
You should ask her to yell "Achievement Unlocked" when she's um, you know.

This made me laugh out loud.

so has anyone successfully been able to trade in SW RH (any platform) towards the FFXIII deal? i mean after the supposed "not taking anymore towards the promo"" shpeel?

Just checked Game Rush today and they had Brutal Legend used for 9.99, I picked one up. Still a good deal even though the price just dropped. :)
That's sorta what happened to me. I was promised the next available spot... and we ended up getting a SL from a closing store. Then we got more employees from a different closing store and their hours had to come from somewhere... or someone (I was the only CSR with 'extra' hours).

Though I've also had 7 store managers in the past year, so that's never helped.

I was successful yesterday trading a Wii and 360 version of each. I did already have FFXIII preordered, so that might have helped. Preorder ahead of time - you'll get a $10 preorder discount too.

I put down $5 on the preorder last week, knowing I'd get another $10 when I paid it off. The GS employee yesterday needed to manually adjust the TIVs for both, but I ended up getting the EDGE 10% added to the $20 TIVs, making the total value of the trade $44. Taking the $5 deposit and $10 preorder discount into consideration, I only had to pay another $4.xx to pay off the game & tax on $59.99.

EXTREMELY YMMV, but I can only smile. Good luck.
Don't know if it's been reported, but I saw GOW Collection for $19.99.
there's no use for it now though lol

People always say they find a lot of stuff in blockbuster cases but at my work, and since I put games out almost every week myself, I look. I don't really ever see the stuff; Uncharted 2 beta, darksiders card or gow iii demo, none of it. Other than some pre-order bonuses we get that never go out to the floor, which I don't know why since we didn't have those games pre-ordered, I think I've only see the lego rockband cards myself. They have the codes that let your import the songs into another game for 5 or 10 bucks.

I did this today using the 360 SW game and a copy of Midnight Club:Complete that I found on target clearance, they had to manually bump the base, so I ended up actually getting 49.50 off, due to edge bonus and another promo #8727 (not sure what that is), but the price of the game was 65$, so no preorder discount for me, but all told a good deal.
Sorry, what's this about getting $10 for Final Fantasy XIII preorders? It's not on Gamestops website.
There's a trade-in promotion going on now towards God of War III and Final Fantasy XIII. There's a list of games, and if you trade two in, you get one of the games for $20.

The reason people are talking about $10 for pre-orders is because many people are getting Star Wars Clone Wars: Republic Heroes for Wii and 360 (for $9.99 each) and trading the two of them in for $40 credit towards one of the two games. The only problem is that Gamestop has supposedly taken the Star Wars games off the list of eligible titles, though you may be able to convince an employee that they're on the list so they manually mark it down for you.

Thing is, if they argue with you about taking SW:CW:RH for 360 and Wii for the promo, just have them go to the website since they're still on the list on there.

I would've thought that after this email supposedly went out to not accept it for the promo anymore that they would've edited the site's list too.

what's BBV return policy? Bought Brutal Legend on Monday for ps3 and didn't enjoy the game as i thought I would.

There is no return policy on "not liking". You can try that line, or you can try and lie and say it didn't work, in which case they might give you another copy of it if they have one. In any case you'll probably get a refund or credit, but it's not policy to give you one.

Actually, that list is down. I'd imagine they're editing it, and they may even be pulling the flyers with the list on them, too.

Unless the TIV dropped since then(2/22/10), it gets $8.75 at Gamestop. With their current 50% bonus TIV deal, you'd get about $13 for it. Considering the fact you'll probably only be given credit anyway at Blockbuster if you try to return it there, you might as well make a few bucks in credit at Gamestop.

It just worked fine for me at this link: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/specialty/tradeins/ff13/

And the two SW:CW games are STILL on that list.

They sell new games. Are there any emoticons I can make when dealing with unbelievable idiots like yourself?
They sell new games you asshole.
I'll just assume you haven't been paying attention to this store's threads for the last year or so, since they STOPPED carrying new games a while ago
you asshole
.

Unless your stores didn't get that memo and are still selling(or attempting to)new games for some odd reason.
They sell new games. Are there any emoticons I can make when dealing with unbelievable idiots like yourself?
Maybe your stores do, but all of my local BBV stores stopped selling new games a while ago(early last year sometime). So maybe their stores aren't selling new games anymore either.

What's this about FFXIII $10 off preorders? I traded in the 2 starwars games and paid 20 off my credit for ff preorder. I didn't get lucky with more than 40 tiv but luckily they took the games. Can I still get 10 off preorder or what's this about 10 back when you pick it up? oh yeah and everyone was talking about their wives and gaming. My grrl and I love to play nazi zombies and modern warfare and god of war games. Our kids love Bayonetta and Heavy Rain :) I let them play the boring parts in Brutal Legend like finding all the serpents. I put pix of my grrl and our grrls on my profile and my avatar pix :)
Really? Dicky specifically mentions $10 off for preordering. Maybe it was a deal that was going on yesterday.
On Heavy Rain's release date last Tuesday, I bought Heavy Rain and used the 25% off used coupon on ME2 (which I traded right back at the store down the street). As usual, the employee (manager?) tried to talk me into a preorder. We starting chatting about FFXIII and GOWIII. I asked what the preorder bonus was for FFXIII and was told that preorders of FFXIII receive $10 off. When I brought in the SW games to trade with the promo, I told the girl working there (different mgr I presume since she needed no approval to override the $4 TIVs) about the $10 off preorder, she knew what I was talking about and immediately credited the $10. I ended up paying

So if I traded in 2x SW: RH for 360 or Wii and Pre-Order FFXIII (to get $10 off pre-order gift) we are looking at $10 when the game hit? Confirm please, if so i'm off to Blockbuster then!

Argh! I just did that exact same stuff. lol. I didn't get the 10 off tho so I will have to call n see what's up. I even paid it off cuz I had credit to spare... I wonder if I can cancel my preorder and get 60 cred and then just preorder again and get that 10 off... I may also cancel my gow3 preorder if I can get that 60 cred now that tru is doing a 20gc with it and I have credit there. I even had to get the manager to get the list for starwars cuz he was trying to give me 4 each and when I mentioned ff13 he was gonna give me 25% extra. Thanx dickybeans.
