Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Bagged a copy of Brutal Legend for PS3. Mint condition disc and insert, but didn't come with a manual. Oh well, can't have it all every time for being a CAG.

Saw Sonic Unleashed for 9.99 and Eternal Sonata for 14.99 both 360, passed on them in hopes they will be there for B1G1.

Did pick up a Coded Arms (psp) for 4.99 though
thanks! :)

I was able to find a GTA IV case for my ps3 which has been unknowingly hard to find in the gamestops in my county.
If you play online at all with this, let me know and add me on PSN as I still play this fairly often, though I only play Free Mode alot as of late. I've been trying to see what kind of buildings and other structures I can free climb.:D

I made it to the top of the one bridge between Dukes and Algonquin last night(after repeated attempts where I became street pizza after falling 10+ stories to my death).
And guess what?
awesome.

even if you were feeling guilty and wanted to return it, you couldnt track down the original owner of the game bbv or someone else.

I will go ahead and add you when I am on my ps3 and if i remember :p. I haven't played online in a while or touched my ps3 much. but usually I love to troll around the city when I am playing off line, which i haven't done in a while. But I guess I'll have somebody too :D since 95% of my friends own a 360. Not sure if its a florida thing.

ahh free falling, i used to do that so much in san andreas. good times. can't wait till episodes from liberty city comes out.

There is a reprice report this week it just came later than normal. Only thing that stood out was valkryia chronicles which dropped to $14.99.

Thanks for the update. The thought of finding that during a B1G1 makes my heart race.
Just came back from a BBV.

beats my free second sight game that I found in a used xbox that I bought from GS eons ago. I sold it on freebay for $15.
Does anyone know if Star Wars still trades in at Gamestop for $24?
Base TIV is down to $4 now, so you're looking at $6 after 50% more promo and $6.40 after promo and EDGE, unless you can get them to allow you to trade it in towards the God Of War 3/Final Fantasy XIII promo.

Although only the Wii and 360 versions qualify.
So you think you could trade both the wii and 360 versions of star wars in on the God of War/Final Fantasy promo and get $40?
You should read the thread, or just go try it. This has been discussed a lot.
So you think you could trade both the wii and 360 versions of star wars in on the God of War/Final Fantasy promo and get $40?
YMMV, I've had one tell me that they will not accept either game for the FFXIII/GoW deal (unfortunately after they told me that it was okay, left to purchase the games, returned and told that it was not okay) and one that accepted them with no issues other than having to manually override the deal. They are no longer supposed to accept them though, and it seems that neither stores allow it now as of last Saturday.
ackbar you don't have to be a butthole about it, just answer my question like these other nice people do.
But see, you're asking for information to be handed to you and I don't blame them for not wanting to answer repeated questions that're answered in the individual threads(in this case the GS trade value/promo thread).

It's been mentioned numerous times whether or not the games are excluded from the GOW3/FFXIII promo, but you need to READ THE THREAD to find out.

I answered one question to be nice, but it seems like you want all of the info handed to you so you don't have to do anything but go out and take advantage of the deals. That makes you a Lazy Ass Gamer.

Believe me I am not a Lazy Ass Gamer by any means. I was just asking a simple question and everyone has to go and make a big deal out of it.

It's easier to read thru the thread and find the answer when there aren't entire pages full of posts arguing about whether people should read the thread or not. Just sayin'. ;-)

If people would stop asking the same questions that have been answered 1000x before and just READ a few posts, they might find the answers and then not have to make themselves look like lazy asses by asking.

But it's just easier to ask(for the billionth time).

Price drops, as of 3/08, the ones that looked worthwhile to write down atleast.

As I said, only wrote the ones down I felt mattered and I'm not going to see any drops for games we don't have in stock.

:360::ps3:
Beatles Rockband Software - $20
Overlord 2 - $15
Prince of Persia(08) - $10
Red Faction Guerilla(360 ONLY) - $15, ps3 is still 20
Velvet Assassin - $15(really think about this one before you buy, I probably would have bought at this price if I didn't try the game out already, don't be fooled by her tight leather and old world good looks)
Guitar Hero World Tour - $10

:wii:
Pikmin - 10$
Toy Story Mania - $20
That wouldn't normally be on my list but it rents like crazy, so why not.

Also, used blu-ray moves have finally dropped from 16.99(or 2 for $25). Every single title in my store dropped to either 12.99, 9.99 or 6.99. The selection for 6.99 was pretty poor overall, half I wouldn't suggest at all and the other half I don't really want. Some good titles in there though. 9.99 has quite a few titles and was probably the most common price point. 12.99 isn't really a drop since the 2for25 deal no longer works, 2 of those are actually more. Still, that means they could drop down to the 6xx or 9xx price points as they get older(like regular dvds).

I only picked up speed racer myself, 6.99 plus my discount. Hancock and hellboy II were 9.99 and piqued my interested but I'm spending so much on games(ffxiii le guide, game, soundtrack, faceplate..lmao..and a handful of other games this month) that I'll pick more up later.

Blu rays fall under no used deal at all, for the moment. Those only work on dvds.

Also, and this is important, just starting recently some blu-rays are SPECIFICALLY rental versions. District 9 and hangover are two I can think of; do not believe they're out for sale used at my store yet. Most of the older titles will be fine, but you will not be getting a standard case either(though you can ask for a ps3 case, same dimensions other than thickness and clear instead of blue)

You sure they don't specify dvd only on there? I haven't seen those coupons myself but a lot of rental ones that print out at the store are specifically for just dvds.

They probably won't work on the blu-rays. Usually they specify that it excludes Blu-ray, HD, defensive driving courses(??), etc.

Thats a sexy price for Beatles RB, so I just ran down the street and grabbed me a copy. The guys in the store didnt even know it had a price drop. Thanks Vortextk!

It doesn't exclude anything, but the point about them saying dvd is valid, I guess I will see. I have good relationships with the staff which always helps.

i went to at least 8 stores and only one had ps3 beatles. i couldnt risk someone else buying it cheaper, so i bought it at $25.

Hey guys; anyone still stuck with SW: Republic Heroes, you are in luck! (depending on your location, I guess) Hasting's B&M stores (mainly located in the Midwest) are still giving a solid $20 for all versions!!! I was so pissed after I ran around and grabbed 7-8 copies that first day to go to GS for FF XIII, but then they nixed them from the promo. All of a sudden, I'm happy again..$80 in free credit!

That's the used price. If it's anything like my store, whoever priced it must not have even paid attention to the fact it was new since other than the very rare pre-order, it's been a long time since I've seen a retail game come in. It's not just ymmv, it's pretty much guaranteed not to happen anywhere else; a lot of factors in play for that, heh.

I just traded in two Republic heroes towards GOWIII today at GS. It was a pretty big ordeal, but the GS employees ended up being pretty cool about it and they manually put it through. I was definitely thankful that I wasn't stuck with 2 extra copies of that crappy game. I would have just driven to the next GS and the one after that and the one after that until I found someone to manually override it. I guess it just depends on the employees you run into.

I also went to BBV to look at the price drop on used blu rays. There were a lot of good blu rays for 6.99, but they aren't the type of movies that make you say "Gee, that sure would be a great film to own on blu ray." I can't remember them all, but some good ones for 6.99 I remember are Zack and Miri, the visitor, MILK, and Michael Clayton. I like all of those movies, but I wouldn't necessarily watch them over and over again. At least the Zack and Miri Blu ray looked like it had all the special features even though it says "Blockbuster exclusive" and the dvd cover actually says "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" instead of the lame "Zack and Miri" Blu ray I bought at Target during it's release.

Another blu ray they had for 6.99 that was okay was Traitor. I watched that movie twice, but I can't really see myself watching it again. They also had a bunch of shit movies that Vortex was probably talking about like House Bunny, American Carol, etc. that were also 6.99. I want to keep an eye out for movies that BBV has a million copies of to drop to 6.99. A good example would be Transformers 2, even though it isn't a very good movie, it looks pretty on blu ray and I would buy that for 6.99 if it ever drops to that price point.

Yeah another good point. The half movies I think are an ok purchase for 6.99 really aren't WOW, THIS'LL LOOK CRAZY ON BLU-RAY. Some good movies and they'll look better obviously, but if you already own them or have seen them most really are not impulse buys; not like when I got my ps3 and The Dark Knight was on my most wanted list, even though I already owned the 2disc dvd set.

More action movies would be great. Can you think of any others off the top of your head that your BBV has too many copies of? I already bought the Transporter 3, mummy 3, body of lies, rambo, no country for old men, rocknrolla, wall-e, donnie darko, and a bunch of others during the 2 for 25 deal. Some of those movies totally suck (especially the ones with "3" in the title), but at least they look pretty cool on blu ray.

I already bought so many older blu rays new for $29.99 back in the glory days of GS=>BBV, BBV=>GS flipping, like Iron man, Hulk, Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Boondock Saints, Hellboy 2, Pineapple Express, Planet of the Apes (original), Lost boys, Kill Bill 1 and 2, Indiana Jones 4, Wanted, Casino Royal, Quantum of Solace, Batman (adam west oldie) and Batman Gotham Knight just to name a few. I'm always looking for more, which means I'm also always looking to build BBV credit .

How many copies of Crank 2, Transformers 2, Saw VI, Gamer, etc does BBV need on hand anymore? Sell dem shits BBV, and improve your quarterly profits! ;)

Edit: I just remembered another 6.99 blu ray: Step Brothers.

You named anything I could think of pretty much. Hellboy II and Hancock at 9.99, indiana at 12.99, uh....I was more busy repricing than writing down =P Most of the action movie sequels are at the 9.99 or 12.99, almost all the 6.99's were drama or comedy movies.

I'm not sure where to post this because it really doesn't deserve it's own thread. I know if I make a new thread, it will just be sold out in like 30 minutes.

The God of war collection is currently in stock at GS.com, so it ends up being $20.99 after CAG16. I just thought this sort of belongs in here for the people who can't find it at BBV for $19.99. I'm also guessing that a lot of people who read this thread have GS credit.
