Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

To the person that said there weren't really any blu rays worth noting that hit the 6.99 price I can say that there are two great movies at that price. Both Sunshine Cleaning and The Visitor are only 6.99

Just noticed what has to be a pricing error for Avatar on blu-ray. It comes out 4-22 and it's ringing up at $19.99 and the used price is showing at $29.99. I pre ordered 2 copies today to make sure I lock in the $19.99 price.

How does that work? Do you pre-order in-store and pay the full $19.99?

thanks, i'll try to put a preorder down on this mofo.

as long as you put $5 down it should lock in the $19.99 price.

now that they finally dropped the price of used blu-rays i dont see why the 4 for $20 for titles $9.99 and under which they have for regular pvd's wouldnt work for blu-ray titles. there is nothing in the bar code that differentiates it from a regular dvd. i'm gonna try it on sunday when i work again and see. it someone else wants to try it before then and report back that would work too. (they wont be too happy if it doesnt work and they have to credit it off but oh well) the csr is gonna tell you they dont work for blu-rays but its an auto barcode so as long as all 4 titles are $9.99 or under it will automatically give you the deal after they hit the total key.

I can't find the thread now, but I saw something the other day about a $10 minimum trade in deal at Blockbuster/Gamerush. Is this something that is currently going on or just an old thread getting bumped?

A guy was buying a load as I was putting the repriced blu-rays back out, I tried scanning a bunch just to see if anything would pop up(and then try to fix best for him afterwards), but nothing happened. He got 180 worth, 30 for a new blu-ray the other 150 were all used ones.

I tried this at 2 different stores, and the employees told me it only applies to DVDs, and wouldn't even attempt to ring up the 4/$20 code.

Same here, he tried it and the comp wouldnt let him.

FYI, don't know if this should go here or not. However, many Blockbuster stores will be shutting there doors in the coming months wouldn't be surprised if all don't shut in the next few months. Be on the lookout for closing stores. I was at my local one which will be closing and the sales associate told me to hold off on used games as they will be 60% off during clearance. He also told me that the game inventories at most stores will be put on sale with the exception of newer titles. Just be on the lookout for good deal during this time.

U won't find many good deals on games at closing stores since they start at 10% off and they are the last thing to get discounted to 20%, 30% etc. They get discounted the slowest but sell the fastest as the normal consumer will think they are getting a "deal."

The store off of GB Highway in Dallas/Garland is closing, but the good stuff was actually sent to the better stores... since there are stores just right around the corner. It's almost a new store (newish), but it is in one of the worst locations.

Unfortunately, the stuff started at 10% off and probably wont be marked down until they close, at which point they will send it all off. Most stores in this district dont turn a huge profit, but Im expecting my closest store to stay because they have one the highest profit margins. I wonder, if they do fold... how that will effect the rental release contracts with certain companies that give them a 30 day exclusive.

.
That's kind of like the one that used to be a few miles from here. It was actually one of the new-style modern stores, really huge. It was only there about a year before it shut down. Location-wise, it wasn't bad. Really good area, right off of the main road right by Walmart. Strangely, there are no other video stores in the immediate area.

I went there one time, before moving to the area, and found a ton of good stuff. A few months later, I went back again and it was gone. Now the closest one is a small, old-style store that is 15 miles from here.

We can always cancel the pre-order if there's a better deal, since we get to see the ads ahead of time.

Picked up :ps3: Street Fighter IV for $19.99... Haven't seen it cheaper anywhere else..

Sad though, he couldn't find the manual :(

They had a couple of the Prince of Persia (08).. This any good? $10 might be worth a look...

Usually it's pretty sucky until the last week or two. Somewhere during the last week the used games drop to 60-70% off and the new drop to 50%. At that point though, it's slim pickings. Last BBV that closed near me did have several copies of Street Fighter IV, a couple other random 360 and PS3 titles, and some new DS games on the last day of opening. My friend got a new copy of Singstar with mics for $12.50

It's a much better time to pick up DVDs than games. Those ridiculously overstocked titles they have (50+ copies of The Spirit, etc.) are almost always there on the last day when DVDs drop to $1. All you have to do is get there before the resellers come and buy up all the stock.

I agree with you. Had 2 stores close near me in January. Now that I know it operates, I'm more prepared for the next closing.

If you see a great deal on a PS3 or Xbox game, grab it. It more than likely won't be there the next week (the next % drop). Both stores were cleaned out when games hit 20% off (especially PS3 games). People will buy anything with a % mark on it. A lot of the games could have been bought brand new a lot cheaper than their "reduced" price. I also noticed at both stores a lot of "shady" things going on (reduced price stickers peeled off to show a higher price, etc).

Also, it seems some closing stores get shipments in from some warehouse. Fellow CAG JDawgg76 and I noticed this at a local BBV. These DVD's and games that came in were brand new and didn't have a scratch on them (possible overstock?). They were new because I almost broke 2 getting them out of the case. You just have to check every week.

However, if you're a lover of Horror, B-Movies and accessories/toys, a closing store can be a goldmine. Especially the last week before shutting down.

New games were 70% off the last few days, maybe even more, but at least two stores shipped off the remaining new games around that time. halo Wars was supposed to be shipped off, but they didn't care and sold it to me anyway. Whatever movies they have a lot of stock in will last until 1 or 2 buck pricing. When ours closed every store had a lot of Indy 4, Yes Man, Tropic Thunder, etc. Mainly big recent releases.

Just checked out my local store. They changed from a Blockbuster/Gamerush to a Blockbuster Outlet some time ago. Last time i was there (couple of months ago) they told me they weren't going anywhere because business is good. Unfortunately, i saw signs on the door today that they will be closing that store as well. The current games for sale were far and few but I did manage to get:

:360: Brutal Legend and Bionic Commando for 8.50 each. They probably would have been cheaper next week but they probably would have been gone before i got there and at that price, you just can't say no. Anyhow, i am curious how this sale is going to work because this store sells surround sound systems and portable LCDs among other things.

idk if it's YMMV
I was at a BBV in a town 40 minutes from where I live today...have 50% off pre owned DVDs and games

picked up
Xmen official game and Matrix Path of Neo for $2.50 each

I'm assuming it is YMMV, because I was at 2 BBVs today and didn't see any signs advertising that near the used games.

It is probably a franchise store. There are a couple of BBV employees that post regularly here and they would let us know if a deal this big came along.

Today, I went to Blockbuster and saw several sealed Kung Fu Panda/Lego Indy copies out on the front counter of the store for $9.99 each. I picked one up and it wasn't resealed or anything. However it was missing the XBOX sticker on the side, so I'm not too sure. Has anyone else seen this at their local store?

I guess the deal ended and they still had some left.

Weird, because on the little blockbuster bar code they have, it said 3-4-10. Hmm...

We had I think 4 of those come in. One customer actually bought a 360, I took one because I had bought a 360 from my store like a month prior and another manager took one because he had a 360 when we ran out of the freaking consoles to sell. Not sure what happened to the fourth.

And confirmation on Avatar BD, I just pre-ordered avatar as did 3 other employees at my store(lol) after I told them. 20 bucks for the blu-ray, after my discount I doubt I'll be able to get it anywhere on release for the same so for once I won't be hitting up amazon.

My girlfriend picked me up a copy of Eternal Sonata for 9.99...store was closing, first day of the sale..so I got an extra 10% off

Asked about Beautiful Katamari when she was there...she said they had it...went she got out of line to go get it, it was gone :(

Went today to check out the Bluray's. Found
Knowing-$6.99
Get Smart-$6.99

Thought about getting Overlord II for 360 @ $14.99 but I would rather wait for a B1G1 sale. Knowing isn't a great movie (thanks again Cage) but it's got some cool effects and scenes that might look cool in HD.
Avatar Blu-ray was 27.99 when i went to go pre-order it today, not 19.99 as previously reported. Oh well.
Heh, was just about to post this. Price went back to regular when I checked the computer today, looks like anyone interested will have to hit the regular deal spots.

I got a few games from a closing store today. Pretty decent deals, i thought. (why wait for 30% when the games will be gone and it's only a few dollars difference?)

All for $10, $9 after discount
Battlefield 2 360
Dead Space 360
Uncharted PS3
Ratchet and Clank PS3

Nice thing was being able to pick through the rental inventory, but rentals were still coming back so not all of them were on the shelf.

In tomorrow's comm update, they tell us to only preorder games/movies from the approved lists. They say it's because we can't ensure delivery. But we know better...

POG strikes again! As if Bayonetta on PS3 last month wasn't enough, nabbed these four tonight. All but ncaa 10 were dated 3/13/10:

My store hasn't gotten POGs in forever and we sell them pretty well. It sucks because I would always have first dibs on everything. This sucks.
