Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Stopped by a random Blockbuster on my way to check clearance games at Target in LI.

Got two non-POG games for myself for the DS.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 for 14.99
Rune Factory 1 for 6.99!

Saw a POG of PS3-Saints Row 2 for 14.99 and
PS3 - Uncharted 2 for 49.99 - original case and manual

They had a bunch, including some I hadn't seen before. One was Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Also saw the usual stuff, like Iron Man and old Madden's.

If you are old like me, a pog was a round cardboard thing that kids traded like baseball cards. I'll explain what a baseball card is next time.

P.lease O.h G.od let them have these at my store. That's what I translate POG as, especially when KingofGames posts his finds.

They got POG's left over from the last round at a couple of my stores, like idiots BB didn't price them to reflect the games value, so no one buys them. I'm mean come on 10$ for the original Saints Row, etc.

Pogs you say?

The Blockbuster in Honolulu, Hawaii on Piikoi Street is also closing. Got Eternal Sonata (Xbox 360) for $9 and Mirrors Edge (Xbox 360) for $6. They actually have a whole bunch of used games, but unfortunately they are still priced pretty high (example Borderlands for $54.99).

lol pogs. I still have some myself.

And for the newbies who aren't familiar with BBV's pogs, even though it meants previously owned games, it's different than their regular used stock. These pogs are in clear cases, the stickers (price tags) don't specify which game is in the case, and they are usually all $9.99 or $6.99. Someone mentioned $14.99 but I have never seen pogs at that price.

if anyone wants a brutal legend, the tustin/jamboree store has like 4 copies. Labeled $25 but rang up $10. Grabbed one while I was there, a bit scratched but installed 100% so who cares.

Ugh! I should have been there Monday because that is when the sale started but im gonna check it out tomorrow and see what i can snatch up. Someone said it best....As long as it installs, who cares what condition it is in.

My local BBV is closing up shop. I saw some good stuff today but have to wait til Friday (payday) to buy. Hope none of it sells out before then.

Went back to get a copy of CoD4 for PS3 that was marked at $15 today, to play with my gf's brother..

It took them, no joke, 20 minutes of ringing up the 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 for $50, then canceling that, then ringing up the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2 for $45, then canceling that, and then trying to figure out why the price was wrong and wouldn't believe me that it's a different game that shouldn't be $50... so I just walked out. fucking awful. I was on my lunch hour from work so I didn't have unlimited time.

Funny, I was just in that store a few weeks back and noticed how better stocked they were. I was hoping for a B1G1, but I guess the other stores will have to do. That store is actually the first one we had on the island way back in the late 80's. Surprised that store is closing.

Brutal legend is 9.99 at -all- corporate blockbusters, has been for like two weeks.
POG strikes again! As if Bayonetta on PS3 last month wasn't enough, nabbed these four tonight. All but ncaa 10 were dated 3/13/10:

Where are you at??? The BBV near me moves the most merchandise in the area, so I've been told, and I have not seen POG's in forever.

went ahead and picked up brutal legend for ps3. found it labeled at 49.99 and 24.99 still but when they rung it up of course it was 9.99. saw a couple of them there probably not touched cuz the labeled price. was tempted to get god of war collection for 20 bucks but passed. this was in mira mesa bbv in san diego.

I've been checking the one at my store... it comes in the original box with the $49.99 sticker on it.

I was turned off by it because I thought the $9.99 Brutal was a POG? Or no?

Well I hit up 4 stores today searching for pogs. Nothing buy GH:Aero & old sports games for the most part. Three of the four stores did have a very good selection of games though. And the manager that knows me at one store mentioned that she thought there'd be a B1G1 soon. She said it was usually around April but she asked on their conference call (or meeting or something) & was given no answers.

But I picked up Eternal Sonata (360) anyway. $10 isn't too bad & it's the only copy I've seen in a while so I didn't wanna risk it being gone if & when a B1G1 rolls around.

I visited the 4 BBVs around my parts (stockton, tracy, manteca) that usually get POGs in but there was nothing. Had some Brutal Legend copies, but I'm holding out on any purchase in hopes of the B1G1 deal.

Anyone have the numbers from a Darksiders:ps3: POG? I really am hoping one of my local stores gets one of them in, since I wouldn't mind rebuying the game for $10, beating it within a week and trading it into GS for $25 or so with the upcoming tiered promo.

Went to my local store found 4 pogs that I wanted. Took them to the register the store manager accuses me of changing the prices yet she peels the 9.99 price off of them and you can clearly see no price tag underneath. I was gonna get Killzone 2, Mlb 2k9, Darksiders, and Metal GEar solid 4. She was like you need to leave the store and your account will be on suspension. My friend who was with me was like there are like 2 or 3 more games over there with these stickers.

Find a corporate number online, call it, explain what happened, give store number, if possible employee name.
ok i'll definitely do that i wrote online so should I just call instead?
I would call and actually speak to someone. You'll have better odds than if you send in a semi-anonymous complaint online.

EDIT: Better yet, go back to the store and on the info board behind the counter it will have the district managers contact information (name & number), as well as the managers name(who I am assuming did the accusing)
My friend was like the bitch probably wants them for herself since she actually saw the price lol. I got her name and everything though so I can talk to someone.
Just go back and if she asks what you are doing back in the store, tell her you're there simply to get her District Managers phone number and leave. I bet just that knowledge alone will get her stewing.

Definitely do something about that. The barcode should scan up to the correct price and whatever it's called in the computer, I forget now because it's been so long since we had it. In any case, if they SCAN/RING up at 9.99, then you obviously didn't change the price or do anything to it. I can tell you I've wondered about people changing the prices on some of our stuff sometimes, but I have to give them the benefit of the doubt. In this case the price should be correct anyway so I don't know what she was pmsing about.

To cheapestgamer, last time my store had pogs they were all the same number for each console. Even if you had someone give you the number or have the number looked up at a store to search the surrounding stores' inventories, you won't know what games they will actually be.

Crap. I was kind of hoping it was a unique number for each one, so I'd know which one to look for. Thanks for the info though, Vortextk.

Now I just have to figure out which store may have some POG's around here and skim through them.

I went back inside before they closed and someone else was there and I asked for the district managers number and explained the situation to the guy and he was like go get the games and he was like oh i believe you man this new store manager is a huge bitch, she sent me home early the other night because I was talking to a customer and we were talking about new games coming out and shes like this isn't time to talk to your friend clock out and go home!! He also asked me how many were left because he was gonna buy a copy of each. I still am gonna call corporate on her tomorrow and I know her name because I wrote it down as soon as I got in the car.
Is there any trading possiblities from GS to BBV during this BOGO online sale to build BBV credit???
lol, I'm checking this thread for the same reason. I can't find any but I'm sure there has to be some.

Actually, I think that so many people are ordering from GS.com right now that by the time they ship items to us, the BBV TIVs would drop anyway. Unless you pay for overnight or 2 day shipping, you're taking a gamble with flipping.
GoVols ... Heard on the news yesterday that Blockbuster is getting close to filing for bankruptcy. Its not a matter of 'if' just 'when'.
I went in to turn some movies and the manager had texted the assistant manager(who was working right then) that they HAD filed, not sure if she jumped the gun or he misread or something. Either way this will be an interesting week at work ;), I go in tomorrow.

As I walked in, he was doing a blu-ray retail transfer back to distribution with two more to go. He made it sound like EVERY blu-ray(new, sealed) was going back, and that was just the first transfer. Lol that's crazy.

I'm really hoping we get one more B1G1 sale before BBV closes for good. I'm so close to being able to get a PS3 with GS credit. One more BBV to GS flip should do the trick.
