Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
BBV...banckrupt...OMG....The Best Buy Fairytales Fights game did kill BBV......as predicted
As much as would like to think things like that is causing stores closing, its probably barely affecting it. BBV makes most of its profits from renting, and with this economy and competitors such as online rentals or Redbox machines at your local grocery stores, it slowly takes away from BBV's customer base.

I bought $200+ worth of games and dvds from the Blockbuster closing in Sandwich, MA. Only FIVE of the dics worked and they refused to refund my money, even with "Quality Guaranteed" sticker on the cases. Went to another store, spoke with the manager, she was helpful but has to wait for HER manager to come in. If that doesn't pan out I'm calling the District Manager. Any other things I should do that I may have missed?

Assuming that wasn't a closing store, I'd say the manager was being a dick, and you're absolutely within your rights. You should call BB customer service and have them call that manager.

oops, just read back and noticed that the store is closing... You're fucked !!

Did you pay with a credit card, I think you need to challenge the transaction.

You may be SOL. Every closing BBV I've been to has multiple signs, as well as shown on the receipt, that "All Sales Are Final"

It's worth trying to argue, though.

Just got a call from the manager. She said it's well posted all sales are final and that's what the district manager told her. I got his number and I'm going to call him. I've worked retail. I understand all sales final. I ALSO understand that any place I've worked that has that policy takes back defective merchandise

No place I have ever worked or shopped takes anything back when all sales are final. It is the risk of buying from a place that is going out of business. BBV only takes things back when they are defective anyway, when you purchase from one that is going out of business there is almost no way you are going to get a return done.

I would assume that all sales final only counts towards returns because you didn't like it or something and not towards defective merchandise. Unless they list it is defective and all sales final then they have to take care of it I think.

If the bankruptcy is Chapter 11, they should be fine for a while, they'll try the restructuring thing. I think they have been here before and gotten out of it, good news in the short term is that you should see a lot of price drops while they try to maximize their cash flow.

That's amazing, as the Blockbuster store manager that I rang me up when I bought them said some things were coming back in. That to me sounds like a return. I don't doubt what you're saying, I'm just telling you what's happened and what bull it is. I contacted customer service, who is contacting the district manager AGAIN, then I'm going to corporate

They were probably rental returns. Go to the DM and corporate all you want, but sales at closing stores are almost always final. Sorry.

The one person returned the one copy of Monsters Vs. Aliens to the Blockbuster that closed by and I unfortunately was stupid and bought it without fully checking it. It turns out it had a 360-esque DEEP ringed scratch in it, but by the time I realized it did I think they already were out of business.

It sucks too, since it was the only fairly recent movie they had and I figured there had to be SOME reason why it was still there when it was such a new title.

They have no rentals, it's ALL for sale. Regardless, him saying that doesn't mean anything. What DOES mean something, is it's illegal in Massachusetts to refuse to refund or swap my defective merchandise, even at a store that has an "all sales final" sign. And seeing how 60% of it was defective, they're screwed unless they change their minds as I will file a complaint with the Attorney General's office and report them for fraud along with the managers that refused. Even if they don't pay me, they're going to bleed a bit more for how they acted
Any good drops take effect tomorrow?
Lol no. This is what I wrote down

NDS Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks - 19.99
Ps3 Red Faction Guerrilla 14.99
Ps3 Transformers(first game) 9.99
360 Quantum of Solace 9.99
360 Street Fighter IV 14.99
Wii CoD Modern Warfare Reflex 34.99

A bunch of other titles, some good some bad, all miniscule drops(batman 40-35, bayonetta 40-35). Cross platform titles may be the same price they may not. Er, fuck....did they change for tomorrow or tuesday? :whistle2:k Well I'm thinking tuesday but I put them back out after we closed tonight. Oh well ;)
What DOES mean something, is it's illegal in Massachusetts to refuse to refund or swap my defective merchandise,
Best of luck, when I was at circuit city and we had all the final sales signs up, I remember a manager let a women return a Payday candy bar 2 years old after she fussed but then I also saw people complain about defective products, threaten to call the cops, then call the cops only to have the cops ask them if they see all the final sales signs and then escort them out of the store but then again this was in Jersey not MA.

Not many games left at the BBV that is closing by me. All the good stuff has been snatched up by employees. I did pick up a bunch of PVP Blu-Rays @ $12.99 each - 10% off

District 9
GI Joe: Rise of Cobra
Snatch.
Zombieland

Killed by a combination of Netflix and Red Box, I suppose? I haven't rented a movie from BBV in a *long* time, so we're part of the problem. I have occasionally bought used games from them, always when there were good bargains. I guess I need to check again to see if they have Brutal Legend as for $10 it's worth a shot, but they didn't have it, nor any POGs last time I was there.

If the store is closing, and they've posted signs stating all sales final, then they're not going to take it back. I'm guessing all of this stuff purchased was with credit obtained from flipping? Looks like BB had the last laugh.

Blockbuster had a new The Beatles Rockband special value (360) bundle on clearance for $88. They had it on clearance since December and I noticed they kept moving it around, so I decided to talk to the manager and offered to take it off his hands for $40. He went to the back and counter with a $50 offer, so I accepted. Good deal, right?

Very aswome deal indeed, even at target clearence is was at $6x.xx with tax. so yes you beat the system again :).

to the person with the blockbuster problem, you may be sol but thats just crazy how blockbuster doesnt check there crap before for defects. isnt that illegal practice? if a store is going out of business whats to stop them from buying broken crap and selling it to people? my only thought to help you out is go to another blockbuster rent/buy all the same items you bought and exchange them with the defected item you purchase. might take some time but its better then loseing you're money

As for as regular stores go, you go check like 10000 movies for defects. It's ok, I'll wait till you're done. No, unless someone tells us this movie doesn't work after renting/buying or wants to inspect the discs beforehand, it's not a habit at my store. Lol and it's definitely not illegal, wtf. I don't have the time to check them all. At a closing store you think they might mention it beforehand if they're not going to take any returns.

This is actually not the case. The clearance at Target was for the Special Edition, with the Paul McCartney Base and wireless Beatles drum. The Special Value Edition came with RB1 instruments. So same game, different bundles.

That's the risk you take with buying used at any store and it's even worse for closing store sales. No store is going to check their merchandise unless they're buying it from you or a customer tells them it's broken.

To the guy who got screwed over at Blockbuster, if any of the stuff was expensive I would go to a different blockbuster rent the same item and put the defective disc in place of the rental. Take all those rentals back to the blockbuster and say "here's your defective shit, now go fuck yourself"
Hey Vortextk, do you know if that Beatles RB for $9.99 a system drop, or maybe YMMV?
Definitely ymmv. That was a misprice, franchise store, or clear case pog.

I got the Beatles Rock Band for $19.99. Not bad. Disc had no scratches and I have been meaning to get this game.

good news. keep an eye out for x360-prepack games arriving in stores again. we have 60 coming in to our store either end of this week or beginning of next week. so some stores may already have them or will get them in the next couple days. part # is 275837 and its listed as july 09. i'll update with titles when we get them in. they are all $9.99.

To update my problem with defective merchandise, the District Manager called me today and said he'd allow me to exchange, to which I said I want the same items either repaired, replaced,or refunded, as per policy. He said no, then asked how many games, I told him and he said I'll call and tell the manager to allow you to get a refund. Moral of experience: Always keep receipt, if there's a problem be POLITE and RESPECTFUL, know/learn your rights, explain how you feel, don't be afraid to take employee names and numbers, take it to the manager then THEIR manager and so on. If the District Manager had said no, I would've reported them to the Massachusetts Attorney General, as that constitutes fraud in my state, regardless of if the store is closing and all sales final.

Doh' read over the part about the it being the speical value edition as oppose to the real limited edition bundle.... For the post above me way to go :) at least it wasn't as bad as we thought. for the ilegal practive i forgot to mention that the guy was a MA resident in which there is a law that prevents them form not accepting damage/defected merchandise..

P.s. stop crying blockbuster and check those damn dvds/blu-rays some time i'm sure you're high value employess can take some time from there busy life to check some damn disc!

OK, I'm back after spending 5+ days at Disneyland (very very un-cheapass of me).

Did I miss anything?

People whining about the meaning of all sales are final?

Saw a few nice price drops today.

Chaotic Shadow Warriors (PS3/360) was 14.99
OneChamBara:Bikini Samurai dropped to 9.99 for Xbox 360 (The only 9.99's before were without cases)
Earth Defense Force dropped to 6.99 without a case
Street Fighter 4 dropped to 14.99

Along with too many other games to remember (They literally had a table covered with about 10 stacks of games that were atleast 4+ games high, probally about 100ish games ALL with cases on that table, not to mention a box with games that were the POG's)

I definately know where i am checking every week for price drops ^_^. They literally had more stuff on that one table than all of the BBV's in the area combined.

BBV had a 90% off sale on all Disney products while you were gone and then they closed all their stores on the west coast.

^^ Good one. Though it did appear that I missed an amazing amount of great deals for such a short period of time (just not at BBV). There was that Nerf game free at BB, and a DotD on Korg DS Plus, and the Toy Story blu-ray deal. Of course now that I'm back there are no deals.

To me it's not whining if there's something wrong with the games/dvds. Then you should be allowed to swap out for either the same exact games/dvds or if those aren't available similarly priced ones.

There's no excuse for selling non working merchandise.

I bet you can still get in on the Toy Story Deal. You just might have trouble finding them in blu ray cases.

^^^
fyi target has the best deal with you get them to price match TRU ad and then take both $10 off manufacturer coupons and then use the $3 off in store coupon

it's YMMY though
worked for me

$1.06 for both

BTW been seeing alot of BBV store closures...did they go bankrupt yet?

It's as-is merchandise. If you are purchasing an item as-is (which is the situation with store closings) then you shouldn't be allowed to exchange/return when it turns out to be defective. That being said, when purchasing as-is merchandise (the case of a liquidation) and the item is being sold as used... you should be allowed to look at the discs. Hollywood Video stores almost always asked me to inspect the discs prior to purchase. Then again, while it's nice of them to offer to see the discs... it should almost be the customer's instinct to request to see the discs prior to buying USED... EX-RENTAL.... copies.

But that's why even if the employees say they can't let you check the merchandise, I will stand there and check it anyway 90-95% of the time. The only time recently that I didn't do so was on a copy of Monsters Vs. Aliens for DVD which had a deep ringed scratch in it.

It was only $2, though that was a real $2 and not the store credit which I used prior during the same store closing sale.

But even if I'm holding everyone else up, I will check the discs and other stuff to make sure it's in good shape before I buy, but even if that one CAG didn't they should be allowed an exchange because it's junk merchandise.
Haha that always seems to happen to me too. You didn't miss out on the GS B1G1 as well did you?
Ah, yeah, I definitely missed that one.

I actually did get part of the Toy Story deal at TRU ($6.99 each) though not the Frog Princess/Toy Story preorder bit. I wish I had thought of price matching because I could have PM'd Fry's which was even cheaper than TRU. Fry's itself was a bust, though, because claimed they don't take any coupons any more - that was a new one.

Anyways, back to BBV. I missed probably the most concentrated set of deals ever for a 5 day period - the very 5 day period I was on vacation. Go figure. At least I didn't miss a BBV B1G1 - that would have killed me ;).

As for the whole as-is BBV sale crap. I see how they can't check stuff in advance, but I don't see why they don't check it when you buy it. In fact, my experience has been that for the most part they do check and on occasion they have suggested I not buy a certain disc (though more often than not I'm the one finding the defects). But at least with obvious things like scratch rings I think it should be up to them to check at least when they are selling them - I mean, they have to get them out of a drawer and re-case them usually, anyway, so it is no big deal to check then. There would still be many times when small scratches may still make it unplayable but at least that would avoid hassle all around on the really trashed ones.
