Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

i actually went to a few BBV to scope out potential games for the B1G1 deal

I found
ps3 Mercenaries 2 9.99
ps3 Rainbow Six Vegas 2 9.99

so these would be $5 each

but are they worth it?
I have the first rainbow six and I liked the demo of Mercenaries 2

any thoughts?

The deal isnt currently active, but when it is, then you would be able to pick them both up for the price of one (Hence, b1g1)

Well, I picked up Mercs 2 during a previous b1g1 for 5 and it was well worth it. However the only good thing is blowing stuff up. The shooting, story and anything that doesn't involve explosives is kind of tame. Also the end boss is a lame quick time event which (I think) sucks pretty badly. Thankfully, the game basically revolves around explosions so that's not in short supply. Haven't played coop. That's probably fun too.

Can't go wrong with rainbow six.

Took a look today at my local store and they don't really have anything worth B1G1. For some reason this store never gets any of those "prepacks" for 360 or PS3, it's always for PS2 and usually are $6.99.

BTW, when did they change their new release DVD rentals back to 5 days? Last month when I rented one, it had to be back next day by closing.
Finally great news. Looks likes there is gonna be a b1g1 starting next week. I don't have 100% confimation on that since I have seen any documentation about it but our DM stopped by this morning as I was repricing the games and she gave me a heads up that it will be happening next week. If that's the case it'll most likely begin on 4/6. She also said there is gonna be a big game transfer this week to get ready for the sale. Now to find something that's close to. 1:1 flip from GS since I'm out of credit at Bbv.
Thanks for the info.

Ok I'm hoping someone (maybe hawaiiboy) can shed some light on this. I called a store and asked them to check the part number 275837. Each time the guy checked it, it came back as the movie "27 dresses" instead of the pre-packs. Do I need to specifically ask them to check a xbox pre-pack part number or are the digits alone sufficient to check the inventory? Thanks.

Sounds like the guy tried to look up a title and not a part #.
anyone have any sucsess with the buy 1g1 sale at the harvard street brookline,MA bbv?
It hasn't started yet...
If you're referring to the tiered trade deal, history shows us there is a good chance that they will extend this for another 2 weeks or so. They seem to usually do that with this deal, sometimes dropping the percentages during the 2nd go round (ie the tiers would only be 10/20/30%).

What would have really been killer was their trade 7 for an extra $50 in credit. It did have the $5 min. TIV limitation, but a lot of the $14.99 games at BBV would have worked; giving you at least about $12.50 for a $7.50 or $5.00 game at BBV (2 $14.99's or $9.99's B1G1).

But I would first bet on them extending the tiered promo, with possibly lower percentages. If they don't do that, I would bet on something like 4(probably next gen only) for an extra $20.

And, hopefully we can get an updated TIV for L4D2 at BBV; I hope my stash from GS.com shows up this week; I'd like to go ahead and trade them to build some credit.
Well, the good thing is that either way we will know what the new/continued deal is (and also what the next coupon is) before this deal starts. :applause:

There is a ton of Wii titles that my kiddos have been asking for that are under 14.99 and I keep telling them "wait for a B1G1 and then we'll talk". I guess it'll be time to put up or shut up. ;)

Added to keep the questions to a min: this is for a POTENTIAL B1G1 that may or may not start on 4/6

Picked up :

Call of Duty : World at War, Left 4 Dead and Fable 2 all at $6.99.

Great deals (although I was hoping for L4D 2).

I'm going to be doing some recon today. Hopefully, I can find a few stores with decent stock. I'll also be looking to see if there have been any price drops on any games.

Picked up today: ALL $6.99 Clear case POG's. All at 1 Blockbuster except for a couple of them. The one where I got literally most of these games just got them yesterday.

Wii:
Super Mario Galaxy *2
WarioWare Smooth Moves
3D Dream Pinball
Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop
Mario Power Tennis
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
Mario Super Sluggers
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
Endless Ocean
Boom Blox
House of Dead 2 and 3 Return
Carnival Games
My Sims Racing
SpongeBob SquarePants Atlantis Squarepants
Bully

XBOX 360:
Grid
Prototype
Left 4 Dead
Bioshock
X-men Origins Wolverine
Resident Evil 5
Mortal Kombat vs. DC
Fallout 3
GUitar Hero Mettalica
Phantasy Star Universe

I went back to my blockbuster and they still had 28 lol. I guess no one else knows? The employees didn't know where to look. I picked up Left 4 Dead at 6.99 :]

I went to another blockbuster that said they had 30. They didn't know what it was and they refused to look. They told me to come back tomorrow for another manager. I actually went a week ago and when I explained to the manager what it was and showed her the prepack from another blockbuster, she told me they did not carry those.

Does every Blockbuster have a clearance section? I just got back from 1 of the 2 Blockbuster's in my area and it was closing down and even with 30% off all the games the prices were ridiculous.
Does every Blockbuster have a clearance section? I just got back from 1 of the 2 Blockbuster's in my area and it was closing down and even with 30% off all the games the prices were ridiculous.
Yeah the blockbusters that are closing normally have horrible prices. The normal blockbusters with the 4 for 20 deals (or whatever it is at the time) on dvd's is normally a better deal. Same goes for games a lot of the time.

Also as a person said above the first one I went to had several World At War and Fable II. The 2nd one didn't have World at War.

I will state that in my big list above. I only went to two blockbusters. Both had the POG's but the first one had TONS. That is literally where I got every wii game except for Bully. The 2nd one had old POG games that I had seen before but some new 360 games. Guitar Hero Metallica was at the 2nd one but not the first. Same with Protoype. There were about 3 or 4 RE5 (which also wasn't at the 1st) at the 2nd one but only 1 Protoype.
Too bad by the time the B1G1 rolls around, every POG will be gone it sounds like.

:-({|=
I just wish they'd show up around here ever.

schuerm26, what's the part # for the Wii prepacks? Maybe I can call around about those - struck out on the 360 ones last week.
Just curious but the POG's are Wii & 360 only right?!
And some PS3 as well.

I've had the B1G1 pretty much confirmed by my store manager. I asked him if we were getting a B1G1 soon and he said "Someone already spilled the beans, huh?" Take it for what it's worth. Stores in my district are also going to be getting rid of their DS/PS2 games (all of them!). Don't know if it's nation wide or not though.

Edit - Read the last page. A DM and an SM both from different districts know about the sale. I guess we can confirm it :).

schuerm26, what's the part # for the Wii prepacks? Maybe I can call around about those - struck out on the 360 ones last week.
These prepacks seem to be rarer than the last batch, I checked two stores that had always gotten them before, and they had nothing new.

The three stores closest to me haven't had any since the first batch and I think there's been 4 or 5 since then according to you guys. The big store that didn't get any then apparently got some 4 months ago. I'm not sure what batch that would be but by that point I had given up checking - go figure they get a bunch then .

Might double check some stores again tomorrow now. Anyone happen to know off hand how much they're charging for DC vs MK? I know of a store that still has a copy but wasn't sure if the price has dropped. Didn't feel like getting it price checked...but I should have since Blockbuster doesn't seem to resticker their games often.

My Blockbuster only had 360 games for $7 witout cases:

tons of old sports games
Call of Duty WOW
Call of Duty 4
Wall-E
Motal Kombat VS DC
Fable 2
Fallout 3

That was about it.

That's how it was last time. I believe BR is a bit more durable, so they don't seem to have to refurbish them.

Guitar Hero Metallica has

All 360 and Wii games should be $6.99 now. At least that is what I ran across at the two closest stores to me. There was even a sign that said Wii $6.99 & 360 $9.99, but the 360 games still rang up at $6.99

Every day this week I've been checking the store that's supposed to be getting them. Today is 5 business days since they have been on order, so hopefully that means UPS ground would arrive today.

A lot more durable. Our store goes through about 30-50 Wii/360 games every month while we usually have no Blu Rays to send back. Our "Defective" BluRays are just customers who are too stupid to update their firmware. I even remember one customer who thought that little hazard symbol (or whatever it is) as Crank 2 started up was a warning to shut off his BR player, so he never watched the movie and claimed it was defective...

@Bezerker - I know most stores around here get shipments in on Thursdays, so it's definitely worth checking out today.

Just curious. If the B1G1 sale starts next week, why would it start on a Tuesday? Do BBV promos normally run from Tuesday to Monday? Thanks in advance.

Lol I have to explain usually once a week how to update a player. Check the website, internet/disc/usb media, etc etc. It was fun when the fat ps3s died for a day, had to constantly fix problems that day too.

You remember borat? I had a lady call in and threaten legal matters because we gave her a burned copy of borat(the disc looks like a writable disc with a sharpie written "borat" on it). A new guy was on the phone with her and I'm like "just tell her that's what they look like, it's a joke". He was worthless, I tried, didn't help; she eventually came in and started bsing about she works at the sheriff department or whatever until the manager showed her like 3 others that all looked the same.

Just bought Prototype, UFC 2009, and COD:WAW for the 360. All were stickered at $9.99 but rang up $6.99 each. Asked the manager if the B1G1 was coming up and he said he thought it started this Tuesday, if not then the following Tuesday.

Found 30 Xbox Prepacks in Nova today; they had just got their shipment. They had, all for 6.99:

COD:WAW
COD:MW
GOW2
GHWT
Crash of the Titans (?)
MLB2k7 (score!)
GH3
Call of Juarez
Rock Band 2
GTA4
Dirt 2
Midnight Club LA (?)
Fable 2
Soul Caliber 4

I was really hoping for L4D2 but oh well. I left most all of them for you guys :)

^That haul looks similar to the last round, with the exception of World at War and Juarez. Hopefully this thread stays low key until the B1G1 so something is left to buy. I still haven't seen any in my area...which may be a good thing.

I bought a complete Wii play control Pikmin for $10. Didn't want to risk it not being there for the b1g1 so I bought it. There are a few copies of HAWX for $15, so I'll hopefully snatch one and something else.
