Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Not much at my local blockbuster, picked up:
Red Faction Guerrilla
Overlord 2
Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts
Big Brain Academy Wii Degree

Most looked decent (scratches, but should be playable), except Banjo, most likely will bring that back. I might have to go back and pick up Marvel Super Squad, tiv is more than the 360 games I got.
Unbelieveable lmao. They just randomly raise a game thats been out for like 2 years to 20 bucks
Its the PS3 version thats worth that much not the xbox.

I just came back from my local BBV in SE Houston and found 2 games that I wanted. I asked the employee if they had the B1G1 used game promo going and she did not know. She had to call somebody to ask. I waited and she said no  I thought this promo was in effect in all stores. I should have asked her to just scan them for me to double check.

Rental conversions and price drops happen on Sundays, correct?

rental conversions have always been sunday until last week when we had to wait til monday before we could transfer them so i wont know til tomorrow if they've changed it to mondays.
price changes always go into effect on mondays.

Can anyone who works at BBV explain where these "replenishments" are coming from? Everyone here seems to think it is normal and expects it. I think it is very odd and unexpected, having shopped at BBV extensively for games for over 5 years now. Is this stuff from all the stores that have been closing? Otherwise it makes no sense for them just to get more used game stock out of the blue.

it is very odd that people are reporting this. we do transfer stock between stores but they are usually 15-20 games at most and this doesnt happen a lot. i dont think they would be coming from closing stores as they like to attempt to sell that at 10% or 20% off or whatever. i've helped out at 2 closing stores in the area and they would transfer out tons of movies and some games but only the newer stuff and that would go back to the distribution center. the only thing i could think of is stores being slow to convert last weeks rentals since it was so large.

So now, the highest trade in value at BBV is $22 dollars?

yep, unless you do that ridiculous deal where you trade in 2 games off a certain list and get a new game for $9.99 then they bump the tiv to $25.

Most of the games I've picked up have been tagged with "4/5" but one or two were tagged "4/6" - if it was on Tuesday would it have to have been a trade-in?

could be but most likely it wasnt transferred until Tuesday.

I didn't plan on picking up more than 4 or 6, ended up with 6, for myself. However TiV's at amazon are much higher than I thought for some of this...crap(literally, in some cases). I'm rocking my store. Manager laughed at my massive stack tonight. Wish I had a damn iphone or anything with internet, otherwise I have to look at our stock, check amazon tiv's at home, submit what I can remember/wrote down, then grab it all when I go back.

I'm just counting this as my raise, thanks bbv.

I stopped by 2 BBVs tonight. I managed to find:

:wii: boom blox smash party $14.99 (disc, manual)
:wii: drawn to life: the next chapter $9.99---FREE (complete)

I splurged and bought a factory-sealed copy of :wii: Mario Super Sluggers for $19.99.

Thanks, see this is what I wanted to know. All these people keep talking about (and expecting) restocks but if it is just laziness on the part of their stores in getting the sale stock out then it really isn't a "restock", is it? And furthermore, if the stores I've been to already have had this stuff out then I shouldn't really expect further "restock" (barring, as I said before, new rental conversions or price drops this weekend and next weekend).

The knowledgeable guy (former GR employee from way back) was working at my local store when I went back in to pick up Afro Samurai (which was still there - the games looked like they hadn't been touched since yesterday). He looked up all the Mario games for me and no one has them in stock in the entire area. There is one KH DS at a store that I was at a few days ago and I must have missed it - or possibly they were one of those stores that didn't put stuff out on time, though it seemed like they had a lot (e.g., they had multiple Drawn to Life, Scooby-Doo First Frights, etc - all the stuff presumably sent in for the sale).
Pikmin Wii - $15
Devil may cry 4 - $10
No more Heroes - $10
Tom Clancy's hawx - $10
Metal slug anthology - $15
Far Cry 2 - $15
What version of hawx is that for 10?
(e.g., they had multiple Drawn to Life, Scooby-Doo First Frights, etc - all the stuff presumably sent in for the sale).
Sent in as you think from other stores? I know my store had a lot of wii copies of drawn to life 2 as well as a decent amount of ds, they were all rental conversions. I can only speak for my one store out of hundreds, but we hardly ever get games outside of when they release. A handful of used games every month or two at most that I observe.
Not being able to return a USED product for a refund is "bogus"? LOL. Reality check: GS's return policy is incredibly generous for used items. It isn't a standard. You have no right to request a refund for a used item at other businesses. If it's busted, you get it replaced. That's reasonable.
Yeah I don't get how someone can call that the "most bogus return policy I've ever heard of." It is completely reasonable.

anyways made one visit to another blockbuster, specifically hoping for Valkyria Chronicles, Ratchet and Clank :ToD, and Civilization Revolutions. Scored VC and Civ Rev, whoohoo! No Ratchet and Clank unfortunately, but I can't complain too much. From this sale I ended up with a total of 10 games for $51, and all of the games are ones that I had on my amazon wishlist.

I'm pretty much done with this sale now. Besides R&C, I don't think I've seen any games mentioned that I still want to buy

I saw 2 copies of Path of the Furon and got excited to trade to BB but was sorely disappointed when I realized they had no manuals. Then, when I got home, I check my copies of Red Faction: Guerrilla, Star Wars Republic Heroes, and Overlord II (all 360) and they all have 2 copies of the instruction manual inside.

I'm not sure why, but this made me really frustrated because it makes me think they just shoved a bunch of manuals into random copies of a game which leads me to find things like Path of Furon without a single manual. I'm probably being irrational, but either way it is weird that it happened in 3 different games.

BTW Mario and Sonic ATOG and Smash Bros trade in for $30 each at Entertainmart fo those who live near one.

Paid $12 for both got $60 cash.$48 profit is pretty sweet.

I went last tuesday but only knowing about 6.99 POGs. first i chose fight night round 4 and prototype both 6.99 pogs but told the guy i only had 15 dollars. then he said ok i will take it. (the total was 15.31) then he noticed the computer rung up that one was free and he informed me about the b1g1 free deal and said i can get two more games. i got the godfather 2 and ufc 2009. SO 4 games for $15! REALLY HAPPY! :D most likely will be going back tomorrow

No stores I have visited (11) have received any "new" stock except one store that had POGs. But two managers that remembered me from last year's sale, conveyed they had converted almost 100 rentals this week...while a couple stores shared they were instructed to ship a few dozen back to their distribution center.
Hawaii - I was told both the conversions and dc ships were to take place starting Monday to be completed by Wed...so perhaps the "replenishments" are just conversions that took a few days to process.?
Sent in as you think from other stores? I know my store had a lot of wii copies of drawn to life 2 as well as a decent amount of ds, they were all rental conversions. I can only speak for my one store out of hundreds, but we hardly ever get games outside of when they release. A handful of used games every month or two at most that I observe.
Well I'm basing that on the very first store I went to on Tuesday which was well stocked before the sale and even better stocked that first day. They said they got 100's of games shipped to them. Interestingly enough, they had no PSP games because when they pulled those they sent them to another store. It made little sense...

I also figured no stores would have ever had 4-6 copies of Drawn to Life Next Chapter for the Wii to rent and all the ones I've bought look brand new and untouched. I mean, most of the stores around me don't ever have that many of any game so why that one? There have been tons of games I've wanted to rent that they didn't carry at all (eg, Lego Indy 2 for PS3 or 360). So I assumed they were new games BBV had bought either to sell back when they sold new stuff or via some sort of mistaken overstock for rentals. I figured those had been sent out with the other stuff - I don't even remember seeing that game in the store before, though it is possible they had multiple rental copies. Maybe they just never bothered to put most of them out.

By the way, I did see one single new game for sale at a store the other day: the Lego Indy/Kung-Fu Panda double-pack that came with the 360 for a bit. I think it was $9.99 - it threw me off to see that familiar old (but long since gone) new game red sticker on the shelf and sure enough the game was the actual copy sealed and all.

All my Blockbusters had a ton of PSP games...and either no or very few PSP games for rent. I think they may be moving away from stocking UMDs company-wide, as they have reduced their available rentals to about three titles, if that many, at every store I visited.

They pretty much eliminated them across the board except for at one store I went to on Tuesday. They may have just been behind schedule, or possibly a few stores are holding on to them (any BBV people know?). They still had a couple of cases on the rental shelf at my local store and they said that was because those two were checked out when they did the pull so they have to wait for them to come back - that probably explains the 3 leftovers you saw. If they were decent titles look for them to be converted for sale soon!

I just thought it was really odd that this first store I had gone to on Tuesday because I knew they had a great selection was told to send their PSP conversions to another store. As far as I know, this store has the highest sales in the district and would be one of the last they'd ever close if it came down to that. It seems like they would get stuff sent to them for sale - and except for the PSP stuff apparently they did. I need to try to get back up there tomorrow in fact...

Hmm..That might be true. I looked around in the rentals section, and i could not find one PSP game out for rent, but they had a good about of psp games for sale, like LBP, Gran turismo, MUA2, Dissida, and other stuff. I took home dissida, mua 2 and soul calibur(all to flip lol) but ill be back for the other dissidia they had and MUA 1 to add to my collection.

Just hope my store gets more good stuff before the sale ends. I'd like to make one more purchase.

Question - why MUA 2 and SC? I checked those out at one store last night and decided they weren't worth it. You know something I don't? ;)

Well, soul calibur psp gets like 14 @ GS Base. I basically picked it out, cause i had 4 other games to trade in, so i needed two other games and MUA 2 was the only thing worthwhile at my store. lol

Well, I wish I had known that as I would have picked it up. I needed a 6th game for the 40% bonus. Its Amazon TiV is only $9.
Jesus dude, nice find
I mean, those are nice games to pick up so cheap, but that looks like the selection I saw at just about every one of the 6 or 7 stores I went to ;). The only exceptions may be Pikmin (haven't seen that anywhere) and Banjo Kazooie (only one place and it was trashed).
...and buying one copy each of a bunch of games is hoarding, how??
It isn't by any means. I don't even think he bought that many single games given what is available at this sale. I bought way more keepers than that plus lots of extras for trading. For the most part my flips were Drawn To Life Next Chapter, Scooby-Doo First Frights, Star Wars Republic Heroes 360/Wii, and some of the Disney DS stuff that is available in mass quantity.

Here is my list of keepers:

:wii:
Animal Crossing City Folk
Boom Blox
Boom Blox Bash Party
Cake Mania In The Mix
Disney Think Fast
Drawn to Life Next Chapter
Mario & Sonic Olympics
Mario Power Tennis
Mushroom Men

:ds:
Drawn to Life Next Chapter
Harry Potter Half-Blood Prince
Kingdom Hearts
Lego Rock Band
Overlord Minions
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time
Spongebob Truth or Square
Trauma Center Second Opinion
Zelda Phantom Hourglass
World of Zoo
Zubo

:360:
Afro Samurai
Eternal Sonata
Madagascar 2
Where The Wild Things Are

:ps3:
Brutal Legend
Enchanted Arms
G-Force
Ghostbusters
Monsters vs Aliens
Overlord II
Star Wars Republic Heroes
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen

:psp:
Dissidia
FF VII Crisis Core
Jak & Daxter Lost Frontier
Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron
Star Wars Force Unleashed

And there's a lot more I would have bought if I didn't already have them (Banjo Kazooie, Lost Odyssey, Viva Pinata 2, Okami, SSBB, Super Mario Galaxy, R&C ToD, Rock Band 2, just to name a few). If you were just starting out with a system (any of them) this sale would be a great collection starter!
