Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Yea like any one of us actually play the games that we purchased

I think I ended up with about 30 keepers between Wednesday and today. And that was with forbidding myself from purchasing games I own on another platform (I haven't even touched SW:TFU on the 360 that I bought from GameFly ages ago, do I really need it on the PSP too? Still have the first Drawn to Life from last B1G1, do I need to pick up the sequel on both platforms? Both :360: and :ps3: Brutal Legends? Random third-party titles that I'm definitely not going to put ahead of A-list games I haven't touched...while I'm trying to go back and replay some of my favorites, like Phoenix Wright and Portal anyway? No, no, no, no, and no.) Shoot, I shouldn't have even gotten the games that I did.

But, hey, Ending up with $400 Amazon credit, 500 GS credit, a half dozen games as random gifts for my friends including Pokemon Pearl (found a copy for $15 all minty and complete) and Phantom Hourglass, and a nice 30-game addition to the family for about $500 out of pocket. Can't complain about that.

Oh, and I also have about half a dozen games set aside for Goozex on top of it.

I asked them to scan the ps3 games overlord 2 and red fac guerilla )each w/ $29 labels) and they said those games ring up $29. are you guys sure that there's 1 corporate price list that every store is supposed to go by?
(i think they were labeled $29 but could have been $19 or something. point being, they weren't labeled or ringing up $14.99)

what part of the case should they be scanning (so i can make sure they're doing it right)? And is there some way that they are screwing it up?

Went to La Mesa BBV and got Quantum of Solace and Revenge of the Fallen for 15 + tax. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that they might restock on Sunday so I'll try another BBV around my house that day.

Overlord II for PS3 is most definitely $14.99 and I've seen it tagged that way at several stores. If this is a corporate store (not a franchisee) then it will be that price. They should scan the strip bar code BBV sticks on for used games (they would need to in order to have it ring up correctly when you purchase in any case). However, they can also price check by scanning the regular UPC code - they just need to be intelligent enough to read you the used price as opposed to the new price in that case. That is if they even list new prices in the computer any more - it used to be an issue.
Do we have a post with a current list of the $14.99 games yet?
Not reading the OP makes me very sad... Granted, it isn't 100% updated. I haven't combed through every post in the last 30 pages but I've updated it with most of what I saw at several stores plus several choice reports from other CAGs.

yes, they list new prices. I've never know it to be an issue, it's always listed the same way in the computer. Rental, new, prp and trade.

Sorry io, I didn' mean to put that frown on you this early on a Saturday morning.

I did read the OP and appreciated your input, but I could have phrased it more specifically. I guess what I was asking for was a more comprehensive list in case I missed it somewhere.

Now could you turn that frown upside down?

For anyone looking for specific games, try using BBV store search. It has worked out for me pretty well.

Found some game that were behind the desk that I didn't see a case for on the floor(I found a hidden Mario Sluggers this way). I also got a Mario and Sonic at the Summer Olympic games that I am pretty sure I didn't see at one store.

One time while asking an employee to search the area( I haven't found one person who hasn't known how to search an area for a game), she saw she didn't have any for sale but had multiple rental copies, so she did a rental conversion on the spot. Not sure how likely this is.

Went to 2 stores yesterday and both had fuck all for selection. Mostly the same stuff that's been there since last sale. Lost out on this one.

Picked up SSBB and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games for $16.04 total, brought them in to a local gamestop to trade. Walked out with new copies of Halo Wars and RE5:Gold for $4.18 and $25.19. :D

My town has 2 Blockbuster locations; one had all the $15 or lower games well-sorted in 4 bins, the other had ALL games in the bins regardless of price. Checked through them and in the regular sale locations, but nothing worth trading in. Did pick up some titles for myself though.

That they are. Though I admit I straightened the ones I went through, so the titles could be read. Go go OCD retail powers!

I hit 2 blockbusters here in Chicago:

Tomb Raider Underworld - 360
Star Wars The Clone Wars - 360
Civilization Revolution - 360
Tom Clancy's Hawx - 360
Final Fantasy Dissidia - PSP
Final Fantasy Crisis Core - PSP
Sonic Unleashed - 360
RockBand - 360
The Bigs 2 - PS3
Pure - PS3
Eternal Sonata - 360
Legend of Zelda - DS

The Chicago blockbusters usually always some decent titles.

Damn! I cannot really figure out one thing to trade into BBV that would be halfway decent. I'm about to go hit up 4-5 more stores, and I've been going through my trading stuff, and looking at the old thread, trying to see if I can find a gem. I've got a big pile of crap games from a MG that closed, only cost me about $3-5/ea; I'm gonna take some of them into BBV and try to get some values. I also have a couple of singstar bundles I'm gonna run up there, and some assorted clearance stuff I've amassed. Also gonna swing by a couple GS' and grab 2-3 sets of Halo Wars/Rogue Warrior. Anyone found anything else?
For anyone looking for specific games, try using BBV store search. It has worked out for me pretty well.
I've searched the forums and haven't been able to figure out how that works. The best I've been able to get through blockbuster.com is seeing which stores have a specific game available to rent. Searching by title allows a zip code search that shows if it has them to rent. A plain zip code search shows stores, but doesn't allow inventory searches.
If anyone could give a simple explanation about how to search for used games in stock at particular stores, that'd be awesome.

you have to have an employee do it in store.

Ah. Thanks for the quick answer. I guess I'm not going to be using that option. There's only one corporate BBV nearby, and the employees get surly awfully fast.

I think I hit a jackpot yesterday. Gears 2, COD waw, gta 4, ncaa football 10, rbsv 2, and midnightclub LA all 6.99, atleast 2 copies of each. I actually got to the max limit of 20 per day! 75 buxs for 20 quality games. Hooray!
Yea like any one of us actually play the games that we purchased
I play them.

Well, I play them when I get to them.

Damn, how big is my backlog again?

Well, I do keep them! ;)
yes, they list new prices. I've never know it to be an issue, it's always listed the same way in the computer. Rental, new, prp and trade.
By it being an issue I mean having a clerk scan the regular UPC when selling a used game and charging you the new price. This used to happen to me quite often but not recently which is why I was wondering if they just dropped the new game prices.

Actually it was very late Friday night for me. But no, that is the comprehensive list. If someone had taken it upon themselves to compile and post an even more comprehensive one I would have copied it to the OP. I nominate you ;). FWIW, I did get a pretty big list PM'd to me by a BBV employee and I added that a few days back - it was only stuff available in his store though.
That they are. Though I admit I straightened the ones I went through, so the titles could be read. Go go OCD retail powers!
 I did the same at my local store. There was enough to lay them all spine up on edge with only about 10 extra games that I stacked on top. I went back in there a day later and they were all jumbled up again. That, I don't get since they were all readable as they were. I guess people needed to pull them out and look at them before deciding not to buy them .
you have to have an employee do it in store.
Yeah, I only have one guy that I trust to do that right so when he's in I ask (he's the one I asked to check all the Mario games and found out they were OOS everywhere near me).
Also gonna swing by a couple GS' and grab 2-3 sets of Halo Wars/Rogue Warrior. Anyone found anything else?
I don't get this. Someone reported Halo Wars getting $12. It is $17.99 in store ($16.19 with Edge). Rogue Warrior gets $22 and costs $27.99 I think (the $24.99 web site price says online price only). So that's $25.19 after Edge. Are you just taking losses on the exchange? I probably should have done that since it is better than spending all the cash that I have been, but then it isn't worth the trouble of going to GS and trading at BBV. I haven't even has the time to go to GS to make my one small trade from the BBV games (6 games total).

I picked up:
Folklore-10
No More Heroes-10
Overlord II-15
Lost-10
Kirby Super Star Saga
Revenant wings-7
Red Faction Guerilla-15
Patapon-5

this was all in the norristown area. Supposedly they have new games put out every couple of days.

Computer wise nothing has changed. If they're scanning the wrong barcode or looking at the wrong price if you ask them for a price check then they're just...sucky, lol.

And also Lol at those bins. We have a bunch of big plastic bins for part of our used movie selection. Our last DM did not like them to be lined up so the spines would show, or anything similar. We had to keep them looking all shittied up. What morons, heh.

Ok, so I had some traveling to do today, and I hit 7, yes, 7 Blockbusters today and not one of them had POG's. Has anyone in South Florida found these? I wonder if they are only available in certain regions? Owell, so I got my two games from the sale I wanted, so I am happy...I just wanted more!!
I hit 2 blockbusters here in Chicago:

Tomb Raider Underworld - 360
Star Wars The Clone Wars - 360
Civilization Revolution - 360
Tom Clancy's Hawx - 360
Final Fantasy Dissidia - PSP
Final Fantasy Crisis Core - PSP
Sonic Unleashed - 360
RockBand - 360
The Bigs 2 - PS3
Pure - PS3
Eternal Sonata - 360
Legend of Zelda - DS

The Chicago blockbusters usually always some decent titles.
Which locations you hit? You leave anything?

Yesterday, I picked up:

:360:
Overlord II
Front Lines: Fuel of War
Fear 2
Unreal Tournament 3 (eh - for the kids)
Battlefield Bad Company 1

:wii:
Okami

for $24.xx + tax - kinda meh, but stuff I wanted for my ever growing backlog...

I'm central florida, next to the space center, and I haven't seen a POG for a long time.

I'm in the same area as you (Delray) and have never seen POG's before. I guess it's just not done here. By the way, which store among the seven you visited had the best selection? I've been hoping to find Resistance or FEAR 2.

Good luck with Resistance, out of all the times i checked BBV, i think i only saw it once. Though, FEAR 2 seems to be pretty common.

Ah, thanks for the heads up. I saw Resistance mentioned in the OP and hoped it would be somewhat easy to find. Oh well, at this point, I'll just be glad to find a place that has a decent selection under 14.99. The last BBV I went to just had a big collection of 44.99 games (a ton of Mass Effect 2's and BioShock 2's) in the B1G1 bin...pretty useless. They really need to make separate bins for 14.99 and under and everything else.

Dunno, i kinda like the bins, most people dont take the time to shift through it, so they miss out on some of the good stuff which remains hidden longer ^_^.

About to head out in a few to check out a few BBVs, ill post what i find. Hoping i can find SF4 and Chaotic atleast (Saw atleast 4 of them at one store last week)

Stupid BBV in South Jersey had around 8 copy of Mario & Sonic Winter Games, but they were all marked $30 and in a seperate clearance bin than the B1G1. Dude wouldn't even scan it, said the sticker's right here and pointed to it "See $30" and said the regular clearance bin didn't qualify. Thought I had a nice find. Might go back later when someone else is on register.

Games I picked up weren't the best, but they were cheap

Terminator Salvation Ps3
Turok Ps3
Timeshift Ps3
Tomb Raider Underworld Ps3
Devil May Cry 4 Ps3
Lair Ps3

30 bucks isn't bad either way.

BBV in Flanders is closing down in a week or so. Games are 40% off, new movies are 10%, and used movies are 60% off. The store is half empty. Just picked up
iconxbox360.gif
Bayonetta for $23.99 and a couple of movies. The 360 section is very weak but there's 2 copies of WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw 2010 for $44.99. There's alot of worthy PS3 games though - COD:MW2 (2 copies), Bayonetta, Madden 2010, and Smackdown! 2010.

Once again, Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics is NOT the one that's 9.99. The original Mario & Sonic Olympic Games is.

Honestly, none of them had wonderful titles for the "14.99 and under" section, but out of the ones I visited, I found games I wanted at the store on Boynton Beach Blvd just east of Congress Ave. And the one on Lake Worth Rd and Jog had some good titles (Brutal Legend most noticeably, but I already have it). I don't recall seeing Resistance 2 for under $29.99 I think and didn't notice any Fear 2's, but I may have missed over them, since I was mainly looking for POG's to get Gears 2 and COD WAW for cheap. Any in Delray have anything?
I've searched the forums and haven't been able to figure out how that works. The best I've been able to get through blockbuster.com is seeing which stores have a specific game available to rent. Searching by title allows a zip code search that shows if it has them to rent. A plain zip code search shows stores, but doesn't allow inventory searches.
If anyone could give a simple explanation about how to search for used games in stock at particular stores, that'd be awesome.
You have to ask an employee in store to search the area for you, it can't be done online as far as I know. Just ask them if they can do a search for you, then tell them which game you want. Everyone I asked knew how to do it.
Wild EL HOARDO SPOTTED!

lol.

It's okay, they had two copies of HAWX.
Just ignore that jealous retard. Hey Lakers, if it makes you feel any better I flipped two each of Mario and Sonic Olympics, and Super Sluggers for $100 credit at GS. Not bad for $22 out of pocket.
Once again, Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics is NOT the one that's 9.99. The original Mario & Sonic Olympic Games is.
Oops, thanks for saving me a 2nd trip. I just started trading in games like 2 weeks ago and never paid attention to Wii games. Didn't notice the obvious lack of "winter" in the OP. LOL

Picked up a copy of The Darkness and Enchanted Arms today for the 360. Total came to $7.41 for the two of them and I think I can get 3.50 worth out of each playwise.

The Darkness came with the manual, Enchanted Arms did not, however. Both did have cover art though.

So.... stupid question, but I hear people talking about the "POGs", they're the clear case, disk only.... correct? Will gamestop take them for trade?

Ohoho, boy did I get a fake-out today. Went on another run to search for treasures and was directed by one store to a location I'd never been to. Sure enough, the place was a goldmine. The first thing I see? TWO boxed copies of Beautiful Katamari for $7 and TWO boxed copies of Mario and Sonic Olympic Games for $10.

Long story short: NONE of them were in the store. (And neither was the PS3 copy of Dirt I tried to pick up!)

The guy was cool, though, since I was buying several more games. He said he had copies of Winter Olympics, but I played dumb and said, "Isn't that more expensive?" He looked it up, told me it was $30 and looked embarrassed. I didn't press it, but he said, "To make it up to you, would you like one copy of Winter Games for $10?" He added several credits to bring the price down and still made all the B1G1 stuff work. Aces! :D
This whole "replenishing" thing is very odd. They've never done that before for B1G1 sales - it has always just been whatever that store had and when they ran low they ran low (barring new rental conversions that happened during the sale).
For as long as I've worked there, all of our used games have come straight from other stores. These aren't closing stores or anything, but they are just stores that are still opened and don't sell games as much. Back when The Clone Wars RH hit $9.99 I bought and flipped a ton of them. 2 weeks later we had another 20 in a shipment from another store. BBV just moves around its inventory to stores that do sell games. The only games I ever remember coming from corporate are the disc only prepacks (which I just saw I had 2 of there :) 2 CoD4s and 1 GTAIV).
So.... stupid question, but I hear people talking about the "POGs", they're the clear case, disk only.... correct? Will gamestop take them for trade?
All POGs come in clear cases and cost $6.99.
BUT not all games in clear cases are POGs. Some disc-only games are still priced at $30, $40+.

Yeah, most Gamestops will take them. But they may charge you a "refurb" fee for turning in a game without a case. Depends on the store.

sorry Darkrider but that just can't be true. 90% of used games are rental conversions. Store to stores transfers for games happen maybe once a month.
