Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

3rd trip to Blockbuster, this time to another one out of my town, here's what I got.

God of War: Chains of Olympus PSP $9.99
Uncharted 2 PS3 $14.99 *read below about this*
Brain Age 2 DS $9.99 (for the wife)
Eternal Sonata X360 $9.99
(B1G1 DEAL)
TOTAL = $25

Uncharted 2 IS NOT $14.99. It's retail at BB is $44.99, however, I stumbled upon it pure luck. Apparently it was mis-priced. Someone put a $14.99 sticker on it by mistake, so the Manager told me what it was suppose to be, but he has to honor the price on it regardless since I found it. He then sent another worker out on the floor to gather any extra copies on the floor. So I came out of there with a Excellent deal indeed.

I asked for if they had any POG's in store, and the Manager said they don't even get those nor he has never heard of them and he saids he been working there for years now....so I guess POG's are limited to a select number of stores.

Not bad at all, i found....

Street Fighter 4 14.99
Chaotic 9.99
Dead Rising 14.99
and Brutal Legends 9.99

Barely paid 26 dollars all together ^_^

Saw a few other things, but nothing noteworthy or rare, gonna check a few more tommorow. (Though i cant help but be SUPER pissed. why the hell is SF4 on 360 only 14.99, but the PS3 version still costs 19.99)

You could bring that up to their attention, they might be able to change that for ya at the register, since they both are the same game just on a different platform.

Went to 2 seperate BBVs and picked up the following

360:
Destroy All Humans Path of Furon x2 14.99
Transformers Return of the Fallen x2 14.99
Brutal Legend x1 9.99
TMNT 6.99
Guitar Hero World Tour 14.99

PSP
Soul Calibur Broken Destiny x2 14.99
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 x1 14.99

DS
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days 14.99

Wii
Bakugan Battle Brawlers 14.99

Total was about 90 dollars. My brother kept GH WT and TMNT. I traded in the rest to Gamestop for about 150$ in credit. I just wish I could have found more Soul Calibur and Kingdom hearts, I was essentially tripling my money after the 50% bonus. The others were so-so flips and Destroy all Humans was pretty good flip as well. Overall I was very surprised, I usually don't get in on anything around here! Thanks!

If I spotted a mispriced Uncharted 2 at one of my local BBV stores with a much lower price on it, the manager/employees would accuse me in a roundabout way of changing price tags, rip off the lower price tag and put it back on the shelf and deny me a deal.

It happened with Red Faction Guerrilla for PS3 about 6 months ago. I found a pricetag for $19.99 or so back when it was still going for around $35-40 there. The employee thanked me for bringing it to their attention while also saying that 'SOME people switch pricetags' while looking straight at me.

So I went by this afternoon. One of the employees was rolling around a cart with a stack of PS2 games on it, about four DS games, and a list of games. When she was on a different side of the store, I tried to decipher the list on the cart to see if they were putting some of their rentals on sale tomorrow. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tell anything from it, but I did get a peek at a few games on the cart before she got back- the two mentionable being Super Mario 64 DS and Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. I'm really hoping for a good "restock" tomorrow.
Honestly, none of them had wonderful titles for the "14.99 and under" section, but out of the ones I visited, I found games I wanted at the store on Boynton Beach Blvd just east of Congress Ave. And the one on Lake Worth Rd and Jog had some good titles (Brutal Legend most noticeably, but I already have it). I don't recall seeing Resistance 2 for under $29.99 I think and didn't notice any Fear 2's, but I may have missed over them, since I was mainly looking for POG's to get Gears 2 and COD WAW for cheap. Any in Delray have anything?
Thanks for the info. I just got back from the Blockbuster on Military/Linton and it didn't have a whole lot. A lot of movie based 360 games, and a big load of Wii games. I did manage to pick up Condemned 2 and Dark Sector for 6.99 + tax but there really wasn't much else.

Had a bit of luck today.
I'll try back tomorrow to see if they restock.
Today:
Red Faction Guerrilla (360) and
Boom Blox Bash Party (WII).
Not bad to have those for 7.50 each.

Red Faction Guerilla was interesting in that the 360 version dropped 5 bucks like 2 weeks ahead of the ps3 the last two drops. It hit 19.99 and 14.99 before the ps3, though now they're both 14.99. I don't see why any store would change the price though, I wouldn't, I mean it's not like a mistake or odd pricing. It's actually more odd that the prices stay the same for both consoles nearly all the time, look at other stores with used games and I doubt they're so consistent(which makes sense).

I've still yet to actually see the com. update about this sale, hell I've only worked two days since it started, so maybe if you're lucky the game will drop and the sale will still be going on. Reprices should be showing up here on cag within the next 24 hours for this upcoming week. I won't know anything because I have inventory tonight until like 6am and I'm off tomorrow.

Was out of town at Amador, CA. Stopped by the BBV there, no pogs but added more to my collection.

Transformers ROTF/HAWX: $14.99
Darkness, TMNT, Frontlines, and Soldier of Fortune Payback $6.99

Well, I tested some of my games and found a few problems. Star Trek Legacy for 360 won't install - gets about half way and says the disc can't be read. And one of my pre-packs, Fallout 3, I just noticed has a major crack from the inner ring all the way into the data portion. I didn't try installing any of the other prepacks (I won't bother with Fallout 3) but may do that tonight. What sucks is that I switched Fallout 3 discs in store since the first one looked a little worse. I didn't see the crack back then obviously.

On the plus side, I tried out about 5 iffy looking Wii games and they all appeared to work, though they can't be as thoroughly tested as the 360 games can via HD installation. The Star Trek Legacy didn't look that bad, though, so I would suggest trying any games out even if you don't intend to play them soon. You only get 30 days at BBV to return them and it would be better to do it while they have somewhat decent stuff to swap it for.

The BBV at Pine Lakes Rd In Lincoln Neb had a couple Marvel Super Hero Squad Show for Wii and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen makred at 19.99$, but then saw one of each marked 14.99$. So there are price mistakes. Only one of the Transformers was in a POG case.

Got 16 games for 117$ including a Kingdom Hearts in one of the bins tha I had to search for.

As promised, I finally have a few updated TIV's for BBV:

360:
Rogue Warrior $22
King of Fighters XII $12 (how ironic)
Halo Wars $12
Damnation $10 (LoL)
Race Pro $6
Eat Lead $4

KOF, Damnation, Race Pro, and Eat Lead, I all got from a closing MG for $2-4 (I think KOF was actually the most expensive..it was $8), so I was fine with flipping these to BBV instead of spending cash. Rolled back by another 4 stores, and scored again, BIG TIME.

Scored a Soul Caliber PSP, 2 Beautiful Katamari's (!), and some other pretty decent stuff (don't have it in front of me right now). The super finds for the day: Dirt 2 PS3-$7.49 (gave me Dirt 2 instead of Dirt), Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics-$4.99 (once again, gave me the wrong disc), Halo ODST-$7.49 (!!!!!!!!! Don't get too worked up; this was obviously a mis-price, they sell it used for $29.99 which actually is a really decent price for a used copy, but this one was labeled with a big phat $14.99 pre-played sticker, so I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot? I had 3 other $14.99 games, and I watched her like a hawk as she began to ring in the transaction. Of course, I saw the Halo come in at $29.99, but without me even saying a word, she pulls out a calculator, does some quick math, then deducts $31.xx from my total to account for being charged for it!

I guess it's possible that they wanted to sell that copy at that price, because she was well aware of what it was, and even had 2 other employees searching for it, knowing full well I just got it B1G1. As I said though, this is definitely a super-lucky one time deal that can't be replicated, so don't get your hopes up.

After getting so lucky again today (I just hit all of these stores on Tuesday), I think I'm gonna head back to re-comb some of the stores I hit in another town on Wednesday.

Good luck, y'all

Found a BBV out in Suffolk that has about 60 POGs. Bought 6, at first it rang up $44 and I was like :whistle2:s, then the discount applied and I was like :D

Bought for $3.5 each:
Gears of War 2
COD4: MW
COD: WAW
Crackdown
MK vs DC
Saints Row 2

There were about 5 copies of COD:WAW, among other 360 titles.

Bought at another BBV:
Trauma Center (Wii) $5
Pure (360) $5

Thanks to whoever posted this deal!

Nope, Suffolk NY!

Just got...
360:
Overlord 2 = 14.99
Destroy All Human POF = 14.99

DS:
Mario & Sonic = 9.99
New Super Mario Bros = 9.99

Kicking myself in the butt for not picking up Kingdom Hearts DS, didn't even realize the flip for it.

OK, this is a nice one: I went to a BB and saw a new sign: Trade 2 games from a list, get a new $59.99 game (showed GoW3 and BioShock 2, but indicated any new or preorder) for $9.99. Most of the listed games were the new, higher values...except for one: Brutal Legend. I grabbed 2 copies, paid $10 for the pair, then walked back in and traded them for $50 off of a preorder of Red Dead Redemption. $9.99 due at pickup.

Brutal Legend of was on the list??? WTF, the list that's up here and at my blockbuster don't have Brutal legends on the list.

That must've been a flyer from when the promo started like 3 months ago or whatever. Man if that's the case I would have bought all the brutal legends up and preordered a bunch of stuff. It must've required a mgr override.
sorry Darkrider but that just can't be true. 90% of used games are rental conversions. Store to stores transfers for games happen maybe once a month.
You know what I meant =/. All stores have rental conversions. I meant all incoming games that we receive.
So can we get a verification that Sunday is the day they restock?
The rental to PRP transfer only expires on Wednesday so a store oculd transfer those games any time in between Sunday and Wednesday.
So can we get a verification that Sunday is the day they restock?
No, because they don't "restock". They usually get notices to pull rental games for conversion on Sundays but like I said before they did a big pull last week in preparation for this sale so it is unlikely there will be much of anything pulled this week. Otherwise, we have one BBV employee saying they never get shipments from other stores and all "new" games put out are rental conversions and another who says they get tons of used games from other stores. In any case, if they come from other stores they need to be shipped and most likely will arrive mid-week and not on Sunday. So, yeah, Sunday is the day for new rental conversions if they do them on time (some wait a few days). So there's no reason to think all of a sudden there will be tons more stock tomorrow.

hey have anyone tried trading in games without the booklet to amazon?

Nvm I found the amazon tradein thread

...le sigh there was nothing of interest. Then I knew full well that big bin was picked clean of its goods by today. Here's hoping for Wednesday.

Up to 21 total games from this sale, and another 3 for a friend. They just keep sucking me back in. Even picked up Ratchet and Clank: ToD despite the fact I don't own a PS3 yet. I'm a sucker.

Just spoke with the manager at a store in columbus ohio. He said they recently changed the day they switch rentals to sale and when they do price drops from Sunday to Monday.

I asked him what would be in the b1g1 deal come monday and he went and grabbed a list of what i assume to be price drop and rental to sale conversions for monday.

Only three games will qualify according to the list:

Damnation (PS3): $14.99
Rock Band Beatles (I think 360): $14.99
Guitar Hero Smash Hits (I think PS3): $14.99

I dont know if this will be all the stores across the nation or ymmv.

I just called and one of the women at my local BBV said Sunday or Monday. She said it could be either day so call and check.

I really want to find Eternal Sonata and Folklore.

so freaking lame, blockbuster at harvard street in brookline,ma has no sale, no b1g1 or anything left cuz there closing, at least i got some free disc buffering

Seriously, i would kill for an Eternal Sonata (The only one i found i had brought before, and it was borked to hell, and the exact same damn disc has been floating around for like a month)

did pretty well today! Got Ratchet and Clank TOD and drawn to life wii for 10 bucks. Plan on trading drawn to life for 9 bucks, so i basically got tod for 1 dollar something.

Since there doesn't seem to be a master trade list..I will echo the thought of a previous poster. Would anyone be willing to trade Eternal Sonata for another Blockbuster sale game? I can't find the game anywhere, and maybe there is something I can find that others can't. I haven't found any POG games, but I have seen most of the titles that would otherwise qualify for this sale.

I went to the store that use to have a Gamerush inside that's closest to me and didn't find much. I ended up getting Brutal Legend PS3 $9.99 with GH:World Tour Xbox 360. I hope to find some POGs but most of those there were older games like Frontlines:Fuel of War, Madden 08 Xbox 360, and Test Drive Unlimited.

Made lots of good scores this week. I'll have to tally it up and post totals later.

For now, I thought I'd suggest something cool for folks to do. I've got a buddy in the military, and his unit has a couple of 360's but not a lot of games. Stationed in the desert, they get pretty bored. I grabbed a bunch of FPS POGs and sent them as a gift to his unit. For $26+ shipping I was able to send:

 • COD World at War
 • Gears of War
 • Battlefield: Bad Company
 • Mass Effect
 • GTA IV
 • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Just a thought. There are plenty of charities that will even ship the packages for you.

KA-CHING!! I may have found a way to get the Transformers: War For Cybertron game for $20, assuming my local store still has some copies of BL for $10 each and they still allow BL to be traded in for the deal.

I think when I checked my closest store the other day, they only had 1 copy left. Hmmmm....decisions decisions....do I buy that one and something else and use my $2.72 copy of BL from the EA Store mega sale glitch or do I let this one slip by me?

Holy fuck!

I'm aware of it, but this store has all of it's games enclosed in the plastic security tagged boxes so it's impossible to change the tag unless you could crack the box open. I know the manager though that could of been the case at the start cuz he had a blank stare with a pissed look on his face, but remember it's inside the damn case. Not to mention they had another copy on the floor priced the same.....could of got two, but wasn't going to temp my chances, he could of deny me right then and there.

I don't know if you read the other replies, but this may be a "YMMV". That list has been updated and Brutal Legend was removed. I saw a list in store today, and BL wasn't on it. And it isn't on the list on BBV's web site.

It might still be in the system as a valid trade, though.

You can temp fate, but it's risky, depending on the manager, cuz I used that same deal with Final Fantasy XIII back in February. Since the flyers were still up in the store, Manager was willing to honor it but went to remove the flyers immediately after.

When I saw it, I picked up 2 Brutal Legends then at the same time after buying them, traded them back in for credit towards the game, and got it for $30.

Blockbuster has new flyers replacing that old one you saw from months ago. By the time your order that copy from EA and then trade it in, it's possible they caught on about the old flyers and proceed to remove them. Then you will be screwed.
