Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I stopped by one the other day just in passing and they had a (mispriced) copy of Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for $14.99 and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for $14.99.

Got both for $14.99 plus tax.

Got Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games and KH 358/2 for $14.99. Took them to TRU and got $32.45 not a bad flip combined with the B1G1 40% off.

I thought BBV only had Phantom Hourglass for the $14.99 price point? Ah well, guess I should keep a look out for a copy of Spirit Tracks then.

Edit: Thanks dino88 for the correction.

A bit late in the week but I found the new "Halo wars".

Call of Juarez Bound in Blood for the 360 is 17.99 at EB and gets 15 at BBV. Hopefully it keeps it's value next week.

Last I checked the PS3 Version only gets 12.

Well, found another store by me..guess I didnt check my store locator well enough. So this marks the 6th store. ANd I found some games Ive been wanting to find. :)

$14.99
--------------
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (DS)
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS)

$9.99
-------------
No More Heroes (Wii)
Eternal Sonata (360)

$6.99
------------
Transformers (360)
Phantasy Star Universe (360)

$4.99
----------
Monster Madness (360)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 (360) (Couldnt find any other $4.99 games..and figured I could get some achievements from it)

So my total is 37 games for roughly $190. :)

Hoping theres some drops Monday.

One of my local stores seems to have done a bunch of rental conversions on tax day, and I was lucky enough to find 2 copies of SSBB and a copy of Galaxy. Also, I was able to grab Conker Live and Reloaded (and another game) for 4.99. Now I just need the playboy game and the guy game and I'm set.

I went to a BBV tonight that I've been meaning to go to for weeks and it was a pretty nice goldmine even this long into the B1G1 sale.

I left a lot of great games to keep or trade, but I ended up buying

Dirt 4.99
Viva Pinata Party Animals 4.99

Beautiful Katamari 6.99
Two Worlds 6.99 (only grabbed this because Blue Dragon was missing 4th disc.)

Mario and Sonic 9.99
Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts 9.99

Beatles Rockband 14.99
Kingdom Hearts 358 14.99

Every single game is complete with original covers and manuals except two worlds is missing the manual. I'm going to try to build up some credit and buy some more games there.

This was the busiest BBV I've ever been to (saturday night of course), but not one person looked at the used games while I was there. Lucky me.

Now I think I've bought around 90 to 100 games during this sale, but I spent more cash at BBV than I'd care to admit.

I have a question because I remember a few people saying they sold their beautiful katamari games online for like $25. I have finally have an extra copy that's 100% mint with an original cover and manual. It seems like a sin to trade it into GS for only $18. Where's the best place to sell this game? How much should I ask for? Should I just hold on to it a couple years to see if it increases in value?

I'd keep it for myself, but I already have one from a B1G1 years ago when it was like $14.99. What's crazy is I've found 4 or 5 copies during this sale, but they have been in pretty crappy shape and missing covers and stuff, so I just flipped them to GS.

Blue Dragon has 3 discs.

$25 was probably Amazon, BUT was probably the list price to the buyer and not the net-after-fees amount to the seller. Also, since that person sold their $25 copy, many many more have turned up on Amazon/eBay, probably in large part due to how common it's been in this sale. Currently Amazon has several copies under $20, and many recent completed eBay auctions under $20 as well.

You could hold onto it hoping for the price to go up, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not as rare of a game as you may think. $18 is quite a nice offer from GS.

;) The Guy Game you say? I have three copies of it(1 PS2, 2 Xbox).:D But since the Xbox version is worth more(according to vgpc.com), I'd be hard pressed to let either go.

I'm not sure how I managed to score this "deal" but I got B1G1 with games marked at $19.99. They told me these 2 qualified so I said what the hell I'll take em.

The games are UFC 2009 and Motorstorm Pacific Rift. Both complete in perfect condition.

If anyone lives near Hacienda Heights, CA the blockbuster there has a lot of games for 360 and PS3 $14.99 or under. I didn't buy anything since nothing I wanted but everyone's taste is different. There are 3 separate areas in the store with games for sale so make sure you check the entire store.
Also, I was able to grab Conker Live and Reloaded (and another game) for 4.99.
Nice find! I'm starting to see a lot of the stores' stock are starting to dwindle, but I did manage to get Phantasy Star Universe (360) & Valkyrie Profile 2 (PS2) for $6.99.

I got another one. I don't know if this has been mentioned. Sonic Chronicles for the DS is $14.99. I found it at one BBV, but of course they "couldn't locate" the actual cartridge. Hopefully the employee wasn't BSing me and keeping it for herself.

Thanks for the advice and putting it all in perspective. If for some reason this game doesn't make it's way to GS during the 2/4/6 promo, it will end up in the CAG trade/sell page that I still have yet to create.
fuck, I'm an a-hole. Now I definitely have to go back and buy some stuff. Thx
Yes, definitely get Blue Dragon. A lot of people dump on it, but it was one of my favorite RPGs. I passed on a mint-looking copy the other day but that's because I already have it (bought at full price :bomb:).

Beautiful Katamari used to sell for $40 and up new on eBay, but I'm not sure about used. I wish it was "common" around here - haven't seen a single copy and I've been everywhere and seen everything otherwise ;). I'd say it is one of the rarer ones in fact (that is, relatively speaking - it isn't a one-off thing like a random trade-in game found only at one store but of the repeat finds it is pretty rare).

Beautiful Katamari was real easy to get at Blockbuster 2-3 years ago then everyone traded them into GS cause it wasn't a rare game yet and it was considered on of the better flips being $5 and trading for around $11-12 with bonuses =P

Yep, but this is why I'm surprised anyone can find it now - they all disappeared from here back then.

I've found 5 total during this sale, but only 1 is actually in mint condition. I never found more than a single copy at a store. 2 of these 5 were generic covers, 2 covers are sun-faded, and 1 is just right.

I bought them all up around here years ago too, so these are recent rental conversions. All the dates on the BBV stickers are in April 2010 as well, so they're obviously recent.

Most of the good flippable games i find seem to be very japanese: Katamari, dissidia final fantasy, Soul Calibur Psp, Kingdom Hearts DS. I never really noticed until I just now have them all laid out in front of me. Thank you Japan :bouncy:

Edit: Oh yeah, another game I saw today was Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes in Time for DS for 9.99. I already bought some other crystal chronicles game for 4.99. Are these games rare or worth playing?

I don't even have a DS, but I might start stocking up on some DS games if I buy a cheap old DS when the 3DS comes out. I just never bought one because I'm always playing with my iphone anyway.

One of the BBV here in Denver had some good POG's that I hadn't seen before today, UFC Undisputed 2009 and Guitar Hero Smash Hits, both for the 360 - priced $6.99 each! Too bad they didn't have these for the PS3 or I would've bought them.

I bribed the wife with sushi & got out to three BBV's on the way back home:

------$9.99-----
Okami (Wii)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time (DS)

------$6.99-------
Sega Rally Revo (PS3)
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic
Armored Core 4 (360)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (mispriced @ $6.99)

------$4.99------
Dirt (360)
Geometry Wars Galaxies (Wii)
The World Ends With You (complete!)
Brain Age

All and all, a pretty good haul.... Trying to decide on trading a few either on Goozex or to GS...decisions decisions...

I nabbed
Mario Super Sluggers for the Wii 9.99
Dirt PS3 Free

Flipped Sluggers to Gamestop for 25 and found MLB 10 the show incorrectly marked new for 39.99. The rep said it was priced for the PSP version, but he would sell it to me for that price!

So for about 15 bucks I walked out with a brand new copy of MLB 10!

Ah, see, so that must be a regional difference. They dumped their last rental copies here a year ago or so. They didn't have any to convert for this sale so I thought the ones people were finding were leftovers from 6-12 months ago, which would be odd since most of those previous conversions would have been bought at previous B1G1 sales.

It's so odd, I wonder what drives them to keep certain games in certain areas longer? And it isn't just a case of smaller vs bigger stores and such as I've been to all kinds here and not seen it at all.

I don't completely understand the reasoning behind it either. The mint copy I was talking about obviously wasn't getting rented because there was hardly even a fingerprint on there, so I wonder why they held onto it so long. Then on the other hand, this big store I bought everything at (including Beatles rockband) didn't have 1 single copy of beatles rockband anymore to rent. I would think that would be a good rental for all ages, but I guess BBV doesn't think so.

Whatever their reasoning is, I'm just thankful they are doing whatever they are doing and that they are still in business.:)

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for the Wii is the Amazon Trade in deal of the day

Does anyone know the price at BBV? I saw a copy yesteday but I didn't get it price checked.

I see in the OP that its 14.99 for DS and PSP, but it doesn't say anything about the wii. I'm just curious because of games like Dirt 2 that are cheaper on the wii. This could be a terrific flip.

Yep, I saw the same thing. When I was looking for them a few days ago it seemed like most stores didn't have any rental copies left, and some had 1. I can't imagine why they would dump it entirely - it seems like a reasonable thing to continue to stock one given how new it is and how much older crap they continue to keep around. That was mindboggling, actually ;).

I just noticed that DotD. I don't know about the Wii MUA2. I'm guessing it is at least $19.99. The 360 and PS3 versions are not part of the sale for sure. I was at a store the other day that had the DS and PSP ones correctly marked at $14.99 though so that's why they are in the OP. I'm guessing the Wii one isn't, but it could always drop.

Hey, I was able to take advantage of the DotD a few days back, though, just via pure dumb luck. I had picked up a Pokemon Diamond at BBV and didn't really know what to do with it but then when I checked Amazon there it was as the DotD. It wasn't much, just $15, but given the regular value is $9.50 I thought that was decent. With so many Pokemons out now for the DS they don't seem to hold any value so I figured why keep it. I have a used Pokemon Platinum that I picked up from GS a while back if I (or my kids) ever get an itch to play it (I never have played any of them). That $15 will be better spent as half or so of an upcoming DS game that I will most definitely play like DQ IX.

Love me some cheap games (otherwise I wouldn't be a CAG)... found me 3 360 sports games, all under $15 that qualified for the B1G1.
-College Hoops 2k6 (4.99) - original box NO instructions
-Madden 06 (4.99) - original box, instructions
-Madden 08 (2.99) - original box, instructions

The manager told me they all qualified. And if there was another $2.99 xbox game in the place, I couldn't find it (looked very hard). For a total of $8.76 I got three games. And I NOW have a backlog! Score! :)

You could have bought all these for the same price at EB, even less with edge, and probably would have gotten that missing manual :

Madden 08 : $3.99
Madden 06 : $1.99
Hoops 2K6 : $1.99

And you didn't even get a fourth free game? I declare a fail.

I've found 3 complete copies of Beautiful Katamari in our area during this sale ;). Definitely not common, but there is/was still a few around. Although I have to admit I was surprised seeing these copies, as I know that I bought a lot of them during the summer 2008 B1G1.
no price changes to report so hopefully it will download by tomorrow.

the transfer report came thru and there wasnt anything new that is going to be transferred that would qualify for the sale. similar to last week when most of the transfers were new games.
Based on this I don't know if I should try one more time or not. Kind of want to but part of me just says I should stop.
spent over $2000 in Blockbuster in a little over a month, between B1g1 and 3 Blockbuster closings in NYc...
How did you find anything to buy at the closing ones with BBV cheaping out and offering only 40% off even on the last day?

it's $19.99 for ps3, x360 and wii.

So there is either no price drops this week(very unusual so unlikely) or they we won't see them til tomorrow. Not very common but it's happened before.

Picked up

Orange Box - 14.99
Lost Odyssey- Free

I get home and look at my shelf and there is Orange Box and Lost Odyssey on my shelf sealed. FML. I wonder if I will be able to return them.
