Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

PS3 version? Because I got the 360 one for 9.99, but it's been out longer.
First, I don't believe its the same Shrike, and secondly, if Shrike was cross-posting, someone else would.
I agree with you. Besides, this deal has been going on for weeks and us CAGs have more than likely cleaned out most BBVs in our area of their selections (besides the tons of copies of RB:B or Drawn to Life). Personally, I've spent over $200 over the last 2 weeks (but have great games I passed on earlier to show for it).

I got TMNT Smash-Up and Metal Slug Anthology (both Wii) for 15 bucks at Lemon Grove, CA.

Gosh my backlog is growing, but I'll probably try one more BBV on Monday before the sale is up and after I get paid again...heheh

Ok, enough with the posts about this "Shrike" on slickdeals. It isn't the same Shrike. I can "look into it" all I want, but it isn't him. What I really don't appreciate is having to clean out all the clutter from this thread :bomb:.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, that's cause the user stirring up the trouble is no more...
yes you should be able to do it within 30 days and with a receipt
So I called a different Blockbuster. They said I had to return the games to the same BBV I bought them from, even though they are both corporate owned. Which is odd to me. I have never bought something at one Target or Gamestop or something and told I had to return it to the same store. Owell...

i traded spiderman web of shadows ps3 for tmnt smash up wii, and traded afro samurai for chaotic ds. he said they never let you exchange but he would do it this once. i was like thanx dude. lol. i got home and checked my gs shipments and it said i missed it at noon and they left a notice. there is no notice. so i filed a redelivery form so it should be good n here tomorrow, yay.
When you bought the items you were lied to, mistakenly told, or you heard what you wanted to hear.

Cash refunds, returns for reasons other than defective and any kind of return/rebuy are never the first options presented to a customer if they have a problem with a purchase.
The most retarded thing about it was that the items I bought I could have put on amazon and got my money back that way, if not a little more

I think what saved me was the story I told about buying used DVDs from Gamestop (buy two and get two I think) and returning them for cash. That was a smart return too, because I would've paid $20 for two used DVDs of Last Exile, when just recently I got the entire box set new for $27.
Wouldn't that be 3-360 games for $10?
sorry i meant to say $15 for 4 games not 20. Im typing with my phone thats why.

I was looking for Eat Lead, but had no such luck. Also, do you mean the BR Watchmen with the Watchmen games on it? Or just the movie in general?

fuckin A

Went back and got

Mario Sonic Olympic Games (To damn near immediately trade in at GS) - $9.99
Fracture (360) - Free
Stuntman: Ignition (POG) - $6.99
NBA Ballers: Chosen One (POG) - Free

Alright, now I'm done with this sale.

Oh, I ment the game Watchmen: End is Nigh Part 1 and 2.

Hmm, for some reason, my go-to BBV for this sale removed their used game display from the sales floor. All they have left is a rack of new games for sale. So disappointing .
So looking at my receipt, they mismatched all the games I had paired up... they put 14.99's with 6.99's... fuck!
Yeah, either the employee was being sneaky or just plain lazy. I always made separate transactions for this deal and paired up two of the same priced games.

Wait, your BBV sells new games? I haven't seen new games at a BBV in like a year.
So looking at my receipt, they mismatched all the games I had paired up... they put 14.99's with 6.99's... fuck!
Yeah, unfortunately this is the default behavior if they just ring them all up at once. It amazes me how many of their employees think it will work if they do it that way. I usually convince them to hit total in between each pair to be safe but sometimes they insist it will work so I just let them try and fail. Then they have to fix it afterwards which is always a big pain (usually they just credit enough to make up for it as that seems easier than voiding and re-ringing it all).

This happened to me tonight. I told them how I'd been to multiple BBV's so far, including that one, and they matched the same priced ones together. He said they "weren't supposed to do that", but then he just took a $3 credit off since that's what the difference would have been. So, maybe if you're persistent enough you'll catch a nice person who will just do it for you.

A couple of stores would do the same thing to me. Since I knew roughly what the price should have been I would ask them to re-ring it separately.

I don't know why but I always got the impression that they were under some directive to ring it up this way and to fix it only if a customer balked.

Everytime this happened, I asked them to fix it and they would fix it by inputting an immediate discount. Of course since they helped me out with the correction, I would then ask if they still had the "3 for $3" special, knowing that they get brownie points for every sale. Once I'd add that to my purchase they would become much more helpful, like switching out scratched discs, finding cases, etc.:D

Like the saying goes, Scratch my back and I'll Scratch yours.

If you ever need a job Io, I'll give you a reference for a blockbuster application. They wouldn't even have to train you.(If it's still around in a year ;))

Yeah the problem with voiding off is that the computer voids off the regular price, not the sale.

So if for example you rang up 2 9.99 and 2 14.99 all together, thus making both 9.99's free instead one of each, hit total, and then you tried to void it all, you'd be at -25 and change. You'd then have to do a positive credit adjusting the price back to 0 then ring it all up again.

I'm amazed so many employees ring crap up like that incorrectly and especially when I hear of them telling you guys that they HAVE to. Such BS. blockbuster says no such thing so it's just a manager telling them, and they're not an owner or "policy". Our DM told us over christmas, well told the store manager, not to tell customers to do the 50+5 gift card deal when they were making big purchases cause it was "shady".(Buying the GC's then using it on what they were actually getting) Pretty much everyone at my store said screw that and continued to do it. Sorry for making customers happy and giving them good deals(which you made anyway), blockbuster

the manager at the store i went to was very nice. not only did he ring my order up so it came out right, 15/15 10/10 10/10 but he also let me exchange 2 of the games later. good deal all n all.

Uhh...so the sale is still officially on? I went to a BB I'd hit before and took some games to the counter, and was told that the B1G1 had ended. If they ring the games up, the system will still automatically take half off, right?

Should be till monday as it got extended a week. Don't ask me I never read the com updates, but other people on here seem to be pretty well informed =)

Might be hard to get them to test if they feel they're right. Testing just to credit off when it doesn't work(or so they think) works against the numbers for the day, I guess. You would think immediate credits for things like that wouldn't hurt you.

Yes it will automatically do it.

I don't understand why we CAGs are falling for this mismatch prices.
There is a very simple way to get the free pair to match up, just ask for separate transactions like JNKryo mentioned.

During this sale I bought so many games that employees started to remember me. (I have been to more than 10-15 different BBV). I usually bought 4-16 games and I only hand them the $6.99 sets and keep them others. They usually say "I take those too"...and I say "I want separate transactions". Some smart employees say "dude I got you, I'll total each set for you" and one dumb employees say "why do you want to do that, only the $6.99 games will be free and the $14.99 will be fully charged". This was the dumbest girl I met in my life. I told her "I only gave you the $6.99 games....go ahead and ring it up and see how it will goes". She shook her head and say "you'll see". Dumb as a brick, but cute.

Bing Bang Boom...she say "OMG, wow, I understand it now. :bouncy:
A few days later, I saw her again...she remembered me and didn't object when I separated my buys.
So I called a different Blockbuster. They said I had to return the games to the same BBV I bought them from, even though they are both corporate owned. Which is odd to me. I have never bought something at one Target or Gamestop or something and told I had to return it to the same store. Owell...
you must have just got on with a tough employee... I've exchanged and done different things

I exchanged because I couldn't find good pairs.. so I'd swap one game out at different blockbusters...

if you pass by any blockbusters anyway i would try and just stop in see if they'll let you exchange.. now if you just want to get a refund that might be different... but either way you should still be able to go to any store that's corp you are correct

No offense to BBV employees, (not directed at you Vortextk) but I don't ask questions or ask to test (because the employees think they know everything, but they don't). I just go and ring them up....if the discount is there, I buy whatever....if the discount is not there...I tell them I don't want them.

Asking allows employees to reject my request, but by doing instead, they can't refuse.

About pricing pairing, I simply ask them to match the prices upfront and have only been declined once until I said I was willing to separate my pairs into individual transactions....which is usually an exhausting 8-10 games.

So, I've been able to price match the pairs every time.

Sometimes you have to make somebody do the right thing. 14.99 then a free 6.99 is more ridic than making the employee ring up separate transactions and 4 to 5 trips to the games drawer.

Who here has been screwed by the game drawer as in "Oh, I'm sorry...we can't find the disc or sell you the rental."

This has happened the only 2 times I have found Mario Super Sluggers. Still can't seem to find one, I want a copy to play!! UGH

That has happened to me about a dozen times, refractor. It's obnoxious. One time the employee couldnt find 4 of the games and refused to convert rentals... and seeing as they were all matched for different pairs... i ultimately just walked out with nothing and came back the next day to an employee who would convert and found the missing games.

The jackass employee put the cases back out on the shelf, knowing that he couldnt find them lol.

That has only happened to me only once during this sale. I was attempting to get Street Fighter IV for the 360 at this one BBV. I saw that they had two cases on the shelf at $14.99 so I thought, "Cool, I'll get to pick and choose whichever disc is in better shape."

I bring my games up to pay and the employee finds all the games I wanted except SFIV. I was flabbergasted. I flat out asked her, "How come there are two copies for sale if you don't even have 1 copy of the disc?" I ended up waiting 20 minutes while she and another coworker fruitlessly ransacked the game drawer. In the end she said they would have to declare both games as "losses" so I had to find another $14.99 game (ended up getting Marvel Super Hero Squad).

I got that a few times and I told the employee...are you saying that someone stole the disc from your drawer or you just can't find it? If they say they can't find it...I tell them I'll wait until you find it. A few minute later, they find it....and they comment "someone misplaced it in the wrong drawer/pile".

Once they say "it's stole"....I ask them "so you're telling me that someone stole the game from back there in the drawers? And that the thief stole the disc, but left the case out on the shelf? Are you kidding me?, please look for it again? If not we should inform the manager that someone stole the disc." I got the game 5 minutes later.

Once an employee tried to keep a game for himself by telling me he couldn't find it. But another employee and I caught him...hahahaha:lol:

I might sounds like a jerk, but in the end, both BBV and I are getting what we want...BBV got the sale and I got the games...and we both got an employee to do his/her job.

Some employees just need to look harder for the games.

I was at a store the other day that couldn't find any of the THREE Beatles Rock Band they had cases for!

yesterday the guy was making it seem like he was doing me a huge favor price grouping them like that. i was like, well, i can leave and walk back in and do a seperate transaction making a joke like cmon dude. he thought he was moving the world for me, lol. and yeah they couldnt find a game i had at first, almost selling me their rental copy, he was like no, get the prp version, and they couldnt find it for a bit. lol.

From experience there are sometimes that the disc gets misplaced if the discs are in a huge mess of a stack. As much as we look for it, we won't find it. But sometimes the cashier can just be hoarding it for themselves until they get off work :p
That's odd. The BBVs around here have used games in plastic cases like in Best Buy.
I think it just depends on the store. The BBV by my house just puts out the empty case with a barcode and price sticker, while the store closest to my work has the full game in the plastic coffins like you described.

Yeah it appears that way. The downside of having the used games in the plastic cases is that you'll have no way of finding out if it has a manual or not until you try to purchase the game. Trying to explain to the cashier after he or she struggles to pop open the case that you'd rather pass on purchasing it because it isn't complete is a bit troublesome in my experience.
