Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
so like 3, Ill hold off on scooping those to flip
I usually reserve it as something to pair with. Like if I find other games that are $14.99, ex PS3 Transformers RotF. $9.50 before, $14.25 after bonuses. $15 + tax for the 2 = $27.38 in GS credit. Or when PS3 RB2 was trading in at $20 on Amazon, $33.13 in Amazon/GS credit.
So, pretty much crap at my local BBV - no restock and they are down to just a couple dozen crappy games.

What was interesting was that this was the first time in 5 years of trading/buying games at BBV that I've ever seen another person trade in games (which I haven't even done myself in a few months). The funny thing was that it was a much older (70-75) woman. She was trading 2 PS2 poker games and Madden 07. She didn't have a trade account OR a Blockbuster account but they went through all the trouble of signing her up for all of that. One game had generic Gamestop cover art but they took it even though the manager instructed the new cashier to "check the cover art". The grand total was actually higher than I expected: $3! She used it to buy another PS2 game - I didn't see which one. She failed to use the B1G1 to get another free though .
She must be a member of our sister site, Wrinkly Ass Gamers (WAG).

I'm curious if Wet's going to drop tomorrow or not. That way I can prepare for driving in the rain (which is fun when your passenger side window no longer goes up).

Ok here are the price drops to $14.99 this week effective mon 4/26 also the last day of the b1g1.

WIi

Beatles rock band

that's it. Beatles rock band for the PS3 is NOT dropping to $14.99. There actually may be a few drops for the x360 or ps3 but we just don't have any in stock so it wouldn't show up on our report.

FYI psp-little big planet dropping to $19.99

Games being transferred from rentals that would qualify for the sale

PS3

brutal legend

X360

brutal legend
far cry 2

transfers can be done Sunday so some stores may put them out today it's just a matter of how on top of things they are. Transfers vary from store to store so what I listed is just an example of stuff.

Of course there is no drop for the Beatles rock band for ps3. The one system I want it for and it does not drop.:bomb: Thanks for the update on all the price drops and transfers for the sale hawaiiboy.:applause:

So the potential is there for a few other drops (as unlikely as it may be). Any idea if you guys have Wet (360) in stock though? Would save me a possible trip if you do which would mean it isn't dropping (or at least shouldn't be).

Sweet. Thanks for the heads up, hawaiiboy. I'll definitely have to go hoard some Toy Story Manias, at least. :p My BBV has gotten to know me pretty well during this sale. They shared their list of transfers and price drops for me last week, so if they can do that for me today, I'll let you all know what else (if anything) to expect.
Does the saboteur (360$ qualify for the sale? I havn't seen one anywhere?
I think somebody said earlier that Blockbuster never carried the game.

did anybodies blockbuster put more stock out today? I have 5 within driving distance of me but I dunno if I should make more rounds today after yesterdays 5 trips
price is dropping to $19.99 tomorrow so we'll see if the tiv drops with it or if we'll have another cranium bukkake.
I seem to vaguely recall that BBV TIVs used to change on Sundays for the week, is it Mondays now?

I was planning to go back tomorrow and trade in another copy, I'll post an update with the results.

Also, Beatles Rock Band gets $20 on Gazelle and Cars Race O Rama $17.

How does Blockbuster handle returns? I bought some games with the B1G1 and one of the discs is so scratched that it won't work (it contains deep scratches on the bottom and somehow the person managed to scratch the top, label side up too). The game I bought was $9.99 and the free game was $4.99 (the $4.99 one won't work). Do I have to go to the same store? Can I exchange it for a game that is $9.99 since that was the price of the other game?

I'd check Toys R Us out too, nice to have a little credit there for when I take the kids on a rainy day to trash the store.
All for Wii

Toys R' Us
Beatles Rock Band....: $15
Cars Race o Rama....: $15
GH Metallica:..........: $12.50
Ice Age Dawn of.....: $10
Rock Band 2:..........: $10
Toy Story Mania:....: $13.90

I know my closest BBV was packed with TSM and BRB last week, but knowing my luck some asshat probably has them 'reserved' and is coming in at opening tomorrow to grab them all up. Otherwise, I'd gladly spend $45 in real cash to make $120 in BB credit.

and ill go with those tru values cuz i walk out with gift cards and tru has been having some good deals this year. I have this patience problem lately, esp when my things are floating in the mail/processing/verification. Thanx Cheapest for saving me time :) Thanx stone too. and hawaiiboy/etc/etc all good cags
ps- check those prices again tomorrow. I picked up spiderman web of shadows ps3 last week cuz it was 12.50 when i checked the nite before, got home n checked n it was 6.80. rawr! but I got it exchanged easy/1 time manager deal, lol.
They should give you a $5 credit and it has to be at the same store you bought it at, with receipt unless you paid for it with your membership card info.

You're quite welcome. I wonder how long it's going to take for our gift cards from BB to show up. If they show up before this week's end though, I might just do some more flipping to them and even make a Paypal account and try the cash route.:D
Ok here are the price drops to $14.99 this week effective mon 4/26 also the last day of the b1g1.

WIi

Beatles rock band
cars race o Rama
guitar hero metallica
ice age: dawn of the dinosaurs
rock band 2
toy story mania

Games being transferred from rentals that would qualify for the sale

wii
world of zoo
Wait, are you sure about World of Zoo (for Wii as opposed to DS)? I think that has not been part of the sale up to this point, so if it now qualifies that must be a new drop. In addition to Toy Story Mania which my kids want since we were just at Disneyland and went on the ride, they have also been wanting this. I almost rented it a few months back. Those are some awesome drops! Toy Story Mania is in abundance everywhere so that should be easy to find. I'm not sure about any of the others. It's too bad they didn't drop and of the console Lego Rock Bands - those are everywhere too...

Thanks guys. The worst part was when I opened up the case to check it and there was a damn cockroach crawling in the box! I can't imagine the nasty fucker that was responsible for this (trading in a heavily scratched game with a nasty looking case with a roach inside to boot). :puke:

World of Zoo for the Wii was part of this sale. I picked it up about 2 weeks ago. 14.99

Ugh. I REALLY want to make a trip to a BBV in Crossville, TN (about 20-30 minutes away) tomorrow, but I just called to ask to ask if they had Rock Band 2 for Wii. They didn't. I asked if they had any Beatles Rock Bands. They didn't. Then I was like, "well, you HAVE to have some Toy Story Manias, right?" ... I really want to go since I feel like it has potential, but if they don't have any TOY STORY MANIAS, I'm doubtful. :/

positive, as I did the transfer myself this morning. I wanna say it was are only rental copy but not 100% positive about that and the price is $14.99.

Well, fuck, that was one that was mistagged everywhere I saw it then. I would have bought it. You know what, though, it could be that I never really saw any for sale (or maybe just one mistagged one)... All these things get all mixed up. If they are converting them now as hawaiiboy says then maybe I'll find one tomorrow.

Yeah, some BBVs didn't overstock on these games. There are definitely two distinct sorts of stores. One, like my local BBV, barely had much to start with at the beginning of this sale and besides converting 3 360 Beatles Rock Band didn't add much either. They never had any Drawn To Life for example. I think they may have ONE Toy Story Mania.

But then there are others where they had 4-8 copies of Drawn To Life. Invariably, these stores also had several Toy Story Mania, Lego Rock Band (360), Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics, and various other newer games in mass quantity. I was really hoping that because of that, more of the $19.99 games would drop, but oh well. If you know of one of these well-stocked stores, though, getting Toy Story Mania tomorrow shouldn't be difficult.

I saw this in a local game stop today and thought it was hilarious

Ah yeah...that is funny indeed. Boy they're lazy if they didn't bother taking off a few stickers.

So a game that is all over the place here and have seen no one mention (and was unreported in the GS trade thread) is Tinkerbell: Lost Treasure for the DS. The base TIV of that is $9, so the $5 --> $13.50 is a lot better than the Marvel Super Hero Squad so many people have thought was so great.
Wish I had figured this out before today, but I needed some filler and decided to give that one a try.

Damn..I know where I'm going tomorrow. I saw both Tinkerbell games at $9.99 but figured they were worthless. What does the other Tinkerbell game trade in for?
