Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Will hit up the others in the area tomorrow and be disappointed even more, most likely.

oh well.

BBV doesnt allow returns right?
The cashier said I had a 30 day return policy, but I'm not sure if they'll accept returns for any reason. Though you can always say that you got about an hour into the game and it continually freezes on you at the same point. It'd be hard to prove and with the BBV's I checked today, there weren't multiple copies of most games so they couldn't exchange it for you most likely.

When in doubt, look at the back of the box to see when the game was released. I did that with Rival Swords, and came to the conclusion, it wouldn't have any TIV.

You'd probably end up with store credit though if they couldn't find you another copy of the same game. Either that or they'd take a copy from the rental section to replace your broken one.

Either way Blockbuster is tight on their return policy usually.

As for Uncharted I have a copy I got from Hollywood Video when they were going out of business. I doubt I'm ever going to replay the game, so it's available....but not for the $10 BBV price.:booty:

Unfortunately, I think I ended up having to buy it at the $15 price after discount and that was because apparently no one waits until the end of the store closing sales anymore to buy shit.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I can still remember store closing sales(Sam Goody, TRU) 4-5 years ago that I went back to numerous times and there were STILL tons of games and other stuff left within the last week of business.

But now it seems like within the first 2-3 weeks of a store's closing sale you better snap up stuff you want because nothing will be left by the magical final days when stuff is 80-90% off. Of course, the best time to be had is in the last DAY of a store's closing sale. Anything that's left by the last hour or so the store is open is $1 or less in some cases.:applause:
LMAO you guys are gonna laugh after reading this. Im actually LAUGHING more than i am frustrated.

Ok here goes...

(sorry for Wall of text)

So I went into a Blockbuster about 20 minutes away from my house. Look around for about 10 minutes and I dont see much. So i ask a guy at the register, just to make sure this store is qualifying for the sale, and at first he says he doesn't think so, but after checking around he says the store qualifies. So I see a stack of used games at the end of the register and ask if i can see those, and he says sure. So I look around, My first sight is some PRINCE OF PERSIA game for wii(This is part of the laughing part) and Mario and sonic at the olympic games. Couldn't believe it...(Side note:I only flip games if i know they have lots of value, and these by far do), so i ask the guy if he can hold it for me and he says sure. So im rushing back home because i couldnt believe these two games which are pretty sought after around CAG and have a lot of value are sitting right at the local BBV, so i get home, get my gift cards which i used to pay for, and rush back to the Blockbuster and then i purchase the two games.

Here's the funny part...

Once i get home, Im looking at the values of the two games and i see that the mario game gets alot at a few places. Im looking at Prince of Persia....and see that the game i bought was RIVAL SWORDS! THE ONE THAT CAME OUT IN 2007. I THOUGHT IT WAS THAT NEW ONE FORGOTTEN SANDS. LMAO I TOTALLY GOT OWNED RIGHT HERE. IM STILL FREAKING LAUGHING OVER THIS ....I was in such a rush i thought it was forgotten sands, didnt even notice it was the rival swords one. LMAO i am pretty dumb sometimes....

So i guess they dont give refunds huh? The guys said 30 day period if it doesn't work, but im guessing i wont be able to return it...lol my fault.
yo honest to god same thing happened to me i pciked it up and endless ocean lol b4 i cashed out i just happened to flip it over and look at the cover xD couldnt find anything to match with endless ocean:cry:

Picked up Ridge Racer 7 $9.99 for PS3.

On the qualifying list on the front page, this was listed as $14.99. I doubt this small price change makes a difference for most people though.

Yeah, I haven't been doing much updating of that list (which dates from the last sale mostly) except for stuff I saw myself the other day. The thing is, I did see that one so I should have changed it. Rock Band 2 for PS3 is also $9.99 now. I moved both of those from $14.99 to $9.99. There are sure to be others that have dropped, though not as many as there should be (much of the stuff is still the same price as in April).

if you looking for DS games in fort wayne dont waste your gas

Maplecrest 0 games

Dupont my sims party were the wild things are ... they said they had 15 games in and someone took 12 of them friday night

didnt hit up southgate or times corner (not worth my gas )

Well they allowed me to exchange that PoP game and i bought a few games today

So here's my total haul this weekend

Socom Us navy seals fireteam bravo 3 14.99
Mario and Sonic and the olympic games free

Little Big Planet PSP 9.99
Dark Void free

Most likely will flip Dark Void(for how much it sucks) and Mario and Sonic(because it has a good amount of value

Really surprised they had LBP for 9.99, been looking for a good price on that, and Socom for that price too so im pretty happy :)
Little Big Planet on PSP for 9.99? Now I gotta remember what store I saw that at previously.
YEah man, it was tagged 19.99, but i had the lady check and it was 9.99. I was pretty happy :D
I am so sorry if this has been asked before, im sure it has, but i cant seem to find it. The 30 day return policy is only if the game doesn't work, correct? :(
Correct. Although there is ONE way around that return policy. If the store you bought the defective game from doesn't have ANY of the SAME game in stock(meaning no rental stock either)then they may give you a store credit for the amount you paid or allow you to grab another game in the same price range.

Otherwise, you're pretty much SOL unless you get a manager/employee who wants to be lenient and issue an actual refund.

visited 3 BBV and selections were fairly limited. Picked up Rogue Warrior $9.99 PS3, which i didn't see on the front page, and waved the white flag by adding Dark Void for free after seeing multiples at all stores.
sounds like i may be in for a couple weeks of bug-filled shootemup play....

Just a reminder.

New DS Lite Systems at Blockbuster should be $80 starting tomorrow. My original post is somewhere in this thread. Im pretty sure it is tomorrow. If it isn't tomorrow then it is Tuesday. Stores will have various colors and quantities. From the list I saw, the stock at most stores will be 5 or less.

Went to two stores in my area today. Got what I wanted, which is nice. Picked up:

Dark Void (360, $9.99)
Dark Void (PS3, FREE)
Lego Rock Band (360, $9.99)
Brutal Legend (PS3, FREE)

They didn't have much else I didn't already have, so I got the second Dark Void and Brutal Legend (which I already have) to make the B1G1 sale work since it was two different stores. I will sell or trade both of those.

$80 for a brand new DS Lite is a great deal. I'd buy one if I didn't already own one. Thanks for the info, schuerm26!

sounds like i may be in for a couple weeks of bug-filled shootemup play....
I saw 2-3 copies of Rogue Warrior at my closest BBV the other day I think. The game must REALLY suck to have dropped as quickly as I think it has(to $20 new in 8 months).

I may have to check for one of the DS Lites tomorrow for the hell of it.

Wow, found a few 360 pogs at a location that has never received them before.
Bought
360
COD WOW x2
Lego Complete Saga
LOTR Battle for Middle Earth

$15.xx

Good stuff. Wonder when they got the Call of Duty games. The COD and Lego games you would think would have sold out pretty quickly.

Sorry should have mentioned.
They also had COD4, Halo 3, R6V2, Oblivion, GTA4 all 360 all for $6.99 (POGs)

Went to 5 stores today. 1 store apparently doesn't carry used games (good to know for future reference, though it's not far from the other ones). The rest had fairly slim pickings.

Did grab:
Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (DS)- $10
Where the Wild Things Are (PS3)- FREE

Also saw (at various stores):
Folklore ($10)
Tiger Woods 10 ($15)
Dark Void ($10)
Drawn to Life (Wii) ($10)

Was debating getting Folklore and Tiger Woods together (those were the only 2 games at one store that interested in), but decided I didn't want to risk getting stuck with Tiger Woods if I couldn't find anything to pair it with for the GS deal.
Just tryin' to contribute. My opinion is you're doing a great job with the thread. :applause:

Now that my nose is brown, here's what I picked up today:

PS3 - Red Faction: Guerrilla $14.99
PS3 - The Beatles Rockband $14.99 (crappy case w/art)
PS3 - Enchanted Arms $9.99
360 - Tomb Raider: Underworld $9.99

This was at the Anderson, IN store on Scatterfield Rd. Most of the games were in generic cases with no cover art. I originally found a copy of Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics for $9.99. The guy behind the counter told me the price was wrong and that I could not use it. So I go back and grab The Beatles. Then when turd lips rings me up, he charges me for the $14.99 games and puts the $9.99 games for free. $32.xx for the four. Don't think I'll be going back there.

I ended up using Tomb Raider as a partial trade for Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origins for the Gamecube.

But see that's why you do the four games in seperate transactions so you get the best deal for yourself. Hold back on buying the two $10 games, saying you're still thinking about if you want to buy those or not and get the two $15 games first.

Yeah, I thought about that after I went to checkout. :wall: I guess I've just been spoiled by the local store doing it for me. Regardless he seemed completely disinterested in helping me, and I was the only person in the store.

Don't worry he'll be unemployed in a year or so.

Just got Tiger Woods 10 (Wii) and Soul Calibur 4 (PS3), both marked at 14.99. Wanted a second game for GS flip but no luck, might as well grab a game that could at least entertain me for a couple hours because the rest of the selection was pretty anemic.

Crap, I'll have to check and see which BBVs are still open in the area... all of the ones near me were non-franchise stores that close right around this time last year, and alot in the surrounding area that were franchises closed over the past few years. I did get lucky with this sale back in April though since it started when I went on vacay in Hawaii, the selection was quite bountiful there.
Blast you BBV! Mass Effect 2 and Bayonetta alludes me for a 1 time price of 15$ once again!
I think you mean "eludes".
the ONLY price drop this week is UFC 2010 for both platforms $29.99
HB, do you only see price drops that affect your store, as in just games in stock at your store, or is it a global list which includes games not available at your store? I know different stores operate differently in that regard and forgot how Blockbuster handles it. Thanks.
Aww cmon! BAyonetta and Darksiders STILL 19.99!?!
A manager at BBV let me slide on getting both of those for B1G1F $19.99 for both. It never hurts to ask.

true, we only get the report of games that we have in stock at our store that will drop in price so there could be others out there.
true, we only get the report of games that we have in stock at our store that will drop in price so there could be others out there.
Thanks. I thought it worked that way at BBV, so I'll just hope your store doesn't have the games I'm hoping will drop in stock. Mainly Darksiders, Dante's Inferno, GoW Collection, ME2, etc. The store by my house is really good about always keeping prices up to date so I'll check there tonight.

I figured out why all my blockbusters don't have jack today. I went into another one and the worker goes "ya, some guy already came in the day the sale started and bought everything" She then started telling me that he spent like $150 and just bought everything they had. All the stores around me are literally picked clean asides from old sports titles and ps2 games. This sucks, I fucking love hoarders.
