Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

So are the new batches of prepacks coming in under both sku's for 360?

I've had my local "corporate" stores that always get the prepacks in and they say they've got nothing on order. Our district here in Tampa is usually lowest on the food chain thanks to our shitty DM.
Has anybody in Kansas City found any?
I went by:
- Quivira and Shawnee Mission Parkway in Overland Park (going out of business and no prepacks, but they did have Lost Planet 2 for $35 I think)
- 87th St in Lenexa (nothing)
- Santa Fe in Olathe (zilch)

Might check out a couple more over lunch today, but I don't have high hopes.

Finally found some today. Manager was opening the box as I asked. (she's always super nice and very helpful) I got Madden 10 (I just wanted it) and Modern Warfare 2. My store also just got an abundance of:

Saints Row 2
Nba 2k8 - god knows why
Midnight Club LA
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
and some random Sonic stuff.

Went to two stores in SE Michigan, one in Ferndale (9 mile and Livernois) had some stuff, not much. RE5, Rainbow Six 2, Fallout 3, uh...few sports games, midnight club LA and maybe some other stuff that I'm forgetting for 7 bucks each.

Other one in...Hazel Park I think it is (9 mile and John R) had a bit more stuff, including some ps3 games that I probably should have picked up (killzone 2), but had some interesting things...nba 2k10, dead space, cod mw2 (I picked up :p), had some cool wii games too, think there was super mario galaxy. Thing is that the lady working there was acting a little weird about it, and didn't put them out yet so my girlfriend and I looked through them. While we were looking, one of her friends came in and she instantly told them to look at the games lol. Might be all gone by now. Will probably go back and get Killzone if it's still there :p

Stop fishin' in my pond, people! ;)

I checked the K-7 & Johnson Drive BBV in Shawnee a few days ago. Nothing there. Had the manager run an item check on the product numbers for the prepacks, nothing in the area.

Thx for the heads up like always. Southwest Ohio here Found 20 plus 6.99 prepacks at Blockbuster on Smithville road in Kettering, ohio. Not much, games like dead rising, cod 4, GTA 4, other misc cheapies.

Also
Blockbuster on Heineke Rd. in Miamisburg, Ohio recieved 64 6.99 prepacks same as above and 27 of the 9.99 jewel case games like madden 10, Modern Warfare 2, Smackdown 2010, Prototype and others.

Walked away with MW2,Smackdown 2010,COD WaW, Gta4, for 34 bucks

OK...update.

Stopped by a couple of stores in the Clearwater area of Florida. No PS3 prepacks, just 360. They hadn't heard about getting anything new in, and one of the Managers said that corporate was just there the past week and collected everything that looked "bad," or undesireable, including anything without book/art covering.

All they had left were a few 360 sports titles spread out between all the stores, and apparently others had been by earlier in the morning looking for the same prepacks. Again, it seems like our area never gets anything other than sports titles.

Picked up Dirt 2 and Left4Dead2 (both 360) at the Colerain Store (Cincinnati), today. They had not been marked and put out for sale yet, but the employee was kind enough to let me take a look. Passed on ACII, Madden 10, Army of Two, and some others that I don't remember. Left a copy of L4D2 and Dirt 2. They also received some older prepack games (6.99 variety). Lots of Guitar Hero IIIs and Aerosmiths in that pile.

Checked several stores in San Antonio, didn't find much of anything. Most stores had no POGs (prepacks) at all, even behind the counter. A few stores had 5 or less, all 360 games, nothing great. Two stores had a little over a dozen, but of those one looked like really undesirable leftovers from the last sale. The other store was mostly 360 garbage but did have a couple of decent Wii games.

The one store around me that has gotten the prepacks before got some in again. I went in yesterday and the boxes had just arrived. The manager told me they'd likely put them out in a few hours. Stuck my head in just before closing and they were still sitting on the counter. Went in again today and they still hadnt been put out, but this time the manager let me dig through the boxes since she said I'd been so patient and goodly to come back. So it's nice to have first choice of things! :)

Anyway picked up
:360: $6.99
CoD Modern Warfare 2
Halo 3

:wii: $9.99
Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Was gonna pick up Carnival Games for the hell of it, but the three extra dollars made me balk. There was some other good stuff including multiple copies of MW2 and Halo3, GTA4, Bully, N3, Unreal, along with crap like Bratz. I think I got the only Brawl though.
Happy Hunting.
Went to store on Shaw in Fresno, CA and they had no pre-packs.
They had some at herndon and marks - madden 10, gta4, hulk about 30 total mostly old crappy titles including madden 06.

Which shaw one did you go to?

edit: went to 2 BBVs they both were busts. (Babcock near Dezevala. They used to have a TON of games now only a couple of endcaps. lame. and Fredericksburg and medical. also nothing but some OLD OLD pogs.)

The one on Shaw and Feland; by Home Depot. It's nice to see a fellow CAG member in FresYES, lol.

Nothing in Lincoln, NE
checked most places and asked about prepacks but nobody had any clue what a prepack is so I asked for a manager and they had the same reaction. So I thought I should go down myself and check but still no luck just some titles at regular price.

I just called my blockbuster and asked about the games in clear cases for 9.99 and 6.99. She was like "How the hell did you know????"

I responded, "Magic." ;)

Now I have exclusive access to the games before they are put on the shelves. HECKS YEAH!

Came across 3 stores which got their POG's, in so-OC and at two stores the clerks mentioned they had just put them out (so I probably had the first crack at choosing.

Pretty much everything was older 360 titles and no Wii games. Saw a bunch of Madden '09 and Turning point:roll:. The best stuff I saw was COD4, AC and COD world at war.

I bought the only copy of Saints Row 2 that i found and a copy of Hitman blood money. Both were priced at $6.99. Unfortunately what I really wanted were LFD2, Batman AA, COD MW2 and some of the Mario games but no luck.

Pretty pathetic so far.

I finally had some time to go to a couple of stores today. Of course there was nothing at my local store. But two of the bigger stores in the area had a few prepacks. One had only the $6.99 ones and the only thing worth even looking at there was Halo 3. I'd have gotten it if I didn't already have one from the HWV $4.99 sale a few months back. Then at the second store they had a mix of the $6.99 and $9.99 cases. This is very bizarre because it seemed like there were older titles in the $9.99 set while there were some newer ones in the $6.99 packs. Maybe this has all been discussed here but I really haven't been following along this week. But I mean, c'mon, disc-only Kung-Fu Panda for $9.99? Yeah, that will sit there even if they have another B1G1 sale. I struggled over my decision to buy that for like $1.50 at a HWV that was closing a few months back . Also, there are still prepacks at this BBV from the last set early this year that made it through the last B1G1 (Turok, etc).

$9.99
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 - by far the best pickup considering the regular used copies are $44.99

$6.99
Band Hero - nice surprise as I was eyeing that for a potential price drop to $14.99 and future B2G1 sale purchase but I think they sent all their regular used copies away.
LSW II Complete Saga - already have it but it appears to be decent fodder for the GS trade 3 deal
NBA 2K10 - Surprised to see this at the cheaper price.

They also had NCAA 10 and Madden 10 for $6.99 and in years past I'm sure I would have grabbed those. Now I just know I'll never have time to play them. Some other $9.99 titles that I saw included Civ Rev IV, Skate 2, Godfather II. And it seemed several wrestling games.

So I have no idea when they got this stuff in as I wasn't in the mood for chitchat. Who knows what else I might have missed (if anything). I guess finding CoD MW 2 means it hadn't been picked through too much yet but I was hoping for Borderlands, DA:O, and some of the other stuff people have been posting. Also, any Wii games... But the Band Hero was a nice sutprise as I don't remember seeing that posted and certainly wasn't expecting it to be one of the $6.99 games. It's funny though because I probably wouldn't have bought it at $9.99.

I did ask about getting original cases/manuals and of course was shot down. People who post about getting them are very lucky - they should know that one of the reasons these are cheap is because they lack those (and it even says that right on the tag - "prepack ppg no art".

I'm also somewhat surprised at how many games I saw that I was sure had been sent away. One store had Drawn To Life for Wii, Beatles Rock Band PS3, and even some Lego Rock Band Wii - and the latter was at a store where they had all of those (10 copies or such) on a cart ready to ship off before I liberated about half of them on that last day of the B1G1 50% off sale. Now they have 3 more copies out. I even saw a Toy Story Mania.

Found prepacks at two stores-

Store 1 had a mix of the 'classic' POGs in clear cases and the newer style ones which are in jewel/CD size cases. I don't know whether anyone got there before me or not, but I didn't find anything exciting, it was mostly Madden/NCAA 10, GTA, Halo 3, COD4 etc

Store 2 I know I got first pick because they hadn't put them out on the shelf yet. Best one I found was Batman AA, but no L4D2 or MW2 which is what I really wanted. No Wii or PS3 titles to be found at either store.

Picked up borderlands and some 2K10 game for 6.99 each + my friends employee discount. Then traded em into gamestop with the crackdown promo +edge. $42 dollar in credit. Did I win?
I just called my blockbuster and asked about the games in clear cases for 9.99 and 6.99. She was like "How the hell did you know????"

I responded, "Magic." ;)

Now I have exclusive access to the games before they are put on the shelves. HECKS YEAH!
They wouldn't sell that shit to me today.. They had stuff there, wouldn't sell it yet. I so have fucking dibs on one game... >.> So help me, I know were you live bastard. Also, did you die or something? No one has seen or heard from you in forever. I ran into Nobby at Texas. (PM me sometime.. long story.)

If you're having issues getting case/manual/artwork to complete these POG games, you could always try plopping a pre-order or three down at a Gamestop that you're friendly with the staff at.

That's what I did when I was buying the $5 HWV sale games with the half coverarts and no manuals. I would swap them out in store after giving them a pre-order for some future game. I probably put down $5 pre-orders on 3-5 games just to get the artwork/manuals/cases for the games I really wanted complete.

So long as you're ok with using some credit to put down pre-orders to help their numbers it should put you in pretty good with them and make them more likely to even let you have guides when they penny and so on.

Either that or find another HWV in your area and try buying some of the PS3/360/Wii/etc display cases with the official cases/artwork/manuals.

Or you could just CML and see if I have some you might need?;)
The one on Shaw and Feland; by Home Depot. It's nice to see a fellow CAG member in FresYES, lol.
i found some tonight at the other shaw (sunnyside) store i left behind mw2, borderlands, saints row 2, bourne, fallout3 all were 9.99 but you had to ask for them they were in a draw with no stickers yet.

ok so if most stores don't have them out yet does that mean they will have them out later? Because I have seen many comments saying they were still in boxes or I had to ask for them.

you can add another person here if Fresno Ca as well. i too stopped by at the shaw and feland store to find nothing. maybe ill stop by the herndon and marks one tomorrow for the hell of it

Add another FresYES CAG here...MW2 for $10 sounds good... I'll have to make a run to the Sierra Vista BB tomorrow (and check the Sunnyside BB for good measure)

Lol I wonder if a cag called my store today? Manager got the phone in the back, called up to me saying the person was on the phone asking about 6.99 games or something. I told her he meant the prepacks and I don't think we have any =) Funny.

Went there last Thursday, there where no prepacks, got there last nigh to get me a copy of Hot Tub Time Machine and they had a BIN full of them.

Mostly old titles $6.99-$9.99

Moden Warfare 1
Modern Warfare: WaW
Mercenararies 2
Bioshock
Halo 3
SONIC
Army of Two
Mass Effect

I was looking for a copy of Modern Warfare 2 for the PS3, when I was about to head out I asked the girl if they got any prepacks for PS3, she brings out a box the size of a large shoe box fill with all the good titles.

UFC
Assassins Creed 2
Modern Warfare 2
Army of Two the 40th Day
Madden 10

But no PS3 ones, she even called the other stores and they were the only ones that got prepacks for this weekend.

So if any CAG goes to the stores ask the girls in the counter for the prepacks.

Picked up the following 360 games for $6.99 each in Central Florida:
Call of Duty: MW2
Batman: AA
Guitar Hero 5
NBA Live 10

No Left for Dead 2 or I would have picked that one up too. Either way, you can't beat $6.99

Well, Dragon Age: Origins for 10 bucks... everything else sucked unless you want bad racers, Halo Wars, or B-list FPS. No Assassins Creed 2, no Arkham, no PS3 games, no Bioshock 2, no MW2, no Left4Dead 2... Just old stuff like World at War.
Wow.

I'm not even going to describe my visit to BB today. Just...... wow.
good or bad???

So what is the deal with POGs? I follow this thread a bit, but I kinda tune out the talk about POGs. My store got a bunch in. Are they only good for flipping or (if you don't mind not having case and cover) playing? I guess what I am asking is do most people purchase them with the intent to flip?

A heads up to anyone in the Columbia/Shaw AFB area: The BB on 378 in Sumter has a ton of 360 POGs for 6.99 and 9.99. Most of the titles people have mentioned like MW2 and RE5 but some I have never seen at a BB, like Midnight Club.

I really want Borderlands for $10 but can't bear to not have the case, cover, and manual. There are actually a ton of games I want to get to play, but I have enough games from BB/MG that aren't complete packages. I hate my collector-ness at times...

There's a simple solution to when you get incomplete games from BB/GS, you go to another Gamestop and drop a $5 pre-order on an upcoming game after asking them if you can swap out some incomplete cases for complete sets.

That's what I've done a couple of times now.

Or you could hit up a closing Hollywood Video store in your area for some cases with artwork and manuals for ones you want to complete.

"good wow or bad wow?"
do you guys have to ask? bbv is fricken trainwreck.

anyway, not pogs or b1g1 free in hawaii (checked 3 locations). still hoping they don't die like circuit city. it's rough only having bestbuy/gamestop as b&m options. we need more competition.
