Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

OK, let's keep it on topic:

1) Prepacks
2) Imminent demise of BBV
3) Rumors of future B1G1 sales

;)
It isn't any kind of moral dillema. Hoarders are an offense to the CAG community. This is a guild, and when you join this forum, you swear a tacit oath to not act against the interests of your fellow guildsman. Don't attempt to pollute this thread with some farcical sympathy for some mis-managed corporation: we are already aware that the best interests of the secret CAG community take precedence over the interests of all other entities. Those "glitches" of which you speak would never have been known to you if the CAG who first discovered them was in possession of some hoarding mentality that drove him to keep the information to himself in order to maximize his own self-interest. Yes, we are greedy, but as a CAG you come to appreciate the balance between your own private interests and those of your guild. Otherwise, your actions only lead to discourage your fellow CAGs from disclosing future valuable information because they feel cheated by some of their fellow guildsman (and thus leading them towards the path of hoarding and other outrageous behaviors themselves - and once we've all become that way, it's bye-bye CAG!):dunce:
Amen.

talked to a manager in columbus, oh asking about the POG's and he said that he had recieved an memo about a big shipment coming. He didn't know when the shipment would be coming in, but said there definetly was going to be one.

So to anyone whose store usually gets a shipments like these it may just be taking a little longer than others.

Nothing good at Wall or Shrewsbury, NJ stores. There were a few complete Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics in Wall at 19.99, but no POG's at either.

Which location?

Don't bother making the trip to the Belleville/O'Fallon, IL area. I only found one store with POGs and they were titles you could have found 2 years ago.

I did buy a copy of :ps3:Fight Night Round 4 (non POG) for $9.99. That may be a price drop, I'm not sure.

Has anyone in the Kissimmee/Orlando area seen any POGs? I've called a few stores and thus far no luck, but at least they know what I'm talking about.

edit: two more called, one closed, one has no idea. Ugh! That marks four closed in the area now, wow.

anybody in lincoln, Ne seen any? I called a few places but only one had them on North 27th location but all the other places sounded dumbfounded so please give a heads up when you guys do find any.
btw wat does POG stand for?

pre owned game

Finally had some luck finding good titles today.

I went to a buddy's BBQ and made a quick stop at two BBV's in that area. At one store I got Punchout and Dead Rising: CtyD (last copies of each). The clerk mentioned how these games were such a great deal and that they had even better games, but they sold out the first day they put them out. I asked if she remembered what titles and she said MK Wii and NSMB Wii:bomb:.

The other store I went to had one copy of MW2 for the 360 and I also found a L.E. GOW III guide.

I probably missed out on a bunch of good titles, but then again I normally wouldn't have hit those stores.

Both stores were in LA county and I noticed that these stores received better selections than what I found at the OC stores (where they only had older, 360 titles).

So it seems like the better titles were sent out to LA county stores.

Visited a 3 Blockbusters, but no POGs for sale. At one location though, the employees were removing the discs from the clear cases and putting them in BB cases with paper casing. They then put a used price sticker on the case for however much the game was selling used. Anyone else run into this?

We've had problems like that last year.

I know at least 1 BBV that does this, any1 found a work around?

My buddy and I drove all around on Saturday calling and looking at Blockbusters in the Central FL area. My closest one in Clermont got 360, Wii, and PS3 POGS. I had first dibs and picked up a couple wii games. A couple other places had some 360. Off the top of my head Dr. Phillips, W. Colonial, and Kirkman. Most of those had slim pickings by the time we got there. We found a lot of them that were closed as well.

That would definitely explain why there were so few clear case games at my local BBV, but a ton of paper-insert used copies. Bah.

My local BBV finally got their 360 POG shipment. Was hoping for Arkham Asylum, Borderlands, and Army of Two 40th Day. But there were no copies, so I picked up MW2, Burnout Paradise, and MX vs. ATV Untamed. There's a crapload of Madden 10. Might pick one up at the end of the week. My wallet is really thin.

They aren't supposed to do that. Those are what we call stupid employees or store managers. I wouldn't be surprised if some store managers did that so they could raise the total net revenue of the store. Sell a game for $6.99 quickly or wait a month and sell it for $19.99? That's how most store managers thing and they would opt for the $20.

Not sure if this helps anyone out but I was at the Appleton, WI location and they said they just got a huge shipment of MW2 in for $6.99, picked one up myself, was just the cd in a clear case, but hey for that price I'm not arguing. So if anyone lives in the Fox Cities area in Wisconsin I'm sure they still have a lot left assuming no one hoarded them.

I went to the one on Pine Lake Rd for the recent B1G1 50% and apparently all the BBVs in the area had sold their preowned games for 90cents on the dollar.

I havent bothered with BBV since that. I cleaned out the Pine Lake one pretty good when they had the B1G1 free.

Contact the DM? I don't know... I know they're not supposed to do that, but I don't really think there's a way to stop them.

I'm not familiar with BBV used game practices - if they put them in their paperline cases that means they wont' sell them?
Picked up a few Modern Warfare 2's in the Portland area today. Also saw COD World at War, Madden 10, UFC 2009, and a few others...nothing too exciting.

I sure am glad I picked up a ton of HWV cases and artwork now. I had several MW2 cases with art & manual sitting within the 1200 cases I picked up. If anybody is looking for other cases (Wii or 360), shoot me a PM. I'd be happy to help out a fellow CAGer.
Hey, I saw this post and was wondering if you have any cases/manuals for Borderlands? I picked up a prepack copy, and would love to make it complete. I wouldn't even need the actual case (I have extras), just the case insert & manual. Thanks for posting the offer!

It means they'll sell them for the system price, rather than $6.99 - $9.99.
Care to elaborate which other stores you hit? You're right in my area. I cleaned out Lodi, NJ so hopefully you didn't check that store. Carlstadt also has nothing.

Totowa and Parsippany had none at all and West Caldwell had three old ones. Clifton was the only one with any and they had probably about 40.
hey guys i'm actually around this area too.. i stopped by lodi and one in clifton early last week but I guess I came too early because they had nothing when i dropped by...

i think i'm mostly looking for one copy of borderlands.. maybe a splinter cell if its out there.. see any around? feel free to send me a pm

I was looking forward to grabbing borderlands and dragon age from my local blockbuster last thursday but they didn't have it. Instead I just grabbed the only left for dead 2 copy sitting on the shelf for $9.99.
the one in columbus, oh I was referring to was actually in pickerington, oh on SR 256.
Thanks for the info, I'll try to check some of the northside locations in a few days.
for those who flip games, where do you go to find game boxes and manuals?
I'm lucky enough to have a nephew that works at BBV. Easy hook up for me.

Turns out one of the stores near me had the damn bin outside with some of those 5/$20 used DVDs. I didn't see it the last couple times I went by the store. Girl said they had 4-5 MW2 but they were long gone. I got SW: TFU. One last store I haven't been to to check tonight.
does anyone know when the next shipment of POGs come in?
Hopefully not before they get in some slammers. Maybe they'll be Toy Story 3 themed.

If I'm just buying games to flip, then 90% of the time I just take them to GS with the same cases I get them from Blockbuster or wherever in. Why should I give Gamestop a complete copy of a game when at least 30-40% of their shelves are loaded up with incomplete copies of games. Besides which, I know that the one that allows multiples(w/ receipt) also allows incomplete copies of games without nailing me with a refurb fee.

But if I'm buying a POG or other game from Blockbuster to keep, then I would probably ask if I could swap out for the case/artwork/manual there. Either that or I'd go to GS and offer them a $5 pre-order on some game to get them to let me swap out the blah case with a complete set.

Of course, if it's something I have on my huge list of cases w/ artwork/manual that I got from HWV, then I'd just swap out from that list(like I did with Uncharted and Sid Meier's Civ Rev for PS3)and be done with it.

Went to the Blockbuster in Orange on Chapman (socal) and they had nothing except old games like Dead Space, & Army of two...x_x

I went by in Muscatine, IA and found a lot of POGs but they were all marked 9.99. Also, most of them were somewhat old, but I found a few newer ones - Tiger Woods 10, Transformers RotF, and Godfather II. I'm kinda dissappointed but I may pick up a few of them. I'm gonna have to hit up the Davenport area soon and see if they've got anything.

Hit up 5 stores this afternoon in LA. Only 1 had any POGs, and even then there was only like 2 games. Did notice that they marked up one of games to $30 though...

for the people going to a lot of stores cant you just tell them the part #275837 and have them look up for all the stores in the area? would save time and gas

Cleaned up in the Denver area:

All for XBOX 360:

GH: Metallica
COD: MW2
DA:O
Episodes from Liberty City
Batman: AA

All for 9.99

Also got:
Gears of War 2
Halo 3
Madden 10
Tiger 10
NHL 10
NbA 2k10
NBA Live 10
NCAA football 10
Ace Combat 6
And a few others all for 6.99

I loves me some Blockbuster!

Went to some stores in the Huntington Beach area and only found one store with Prepacks. Picked up Dynasty Warriors Gundam for the 360 since it's the only thing that stuck out (Saw Bully SE also but already have it). Out of all the stores that actually had them none had any MW2, L4D 1 or 2, Borderlands, Dragon Age, or anything like that. I'm guessing the legendary El Hoardo hit the area hard.
Looks like another round of pre-packs arriving in select stores soon.

X360 prepack July 2009 part # 275837 $6.99
X360 prepack apr 2010 part # 306710 $9.99
WII prepack Apr. 2010 part # 306709 $9.99
which part numbers are people getting with mw2, Batman: AA, army of two, etc etc etc (recent titles)??????

so you can buy a POG and then flip them to GS? i thought gamestop requires the manual and the paper cover. or does GS just require the disk and not the manual, etc. like amazon trade-in? sorry to ask this, I'm still confused on the whole flipping thing.

HWV is hollywood video?

thanks

Alright. I checked two of my local BBV stores. One had some pre-packs for 360, but nothing good. The one employee there told me they HAD one single copy of COD4:MW and COD:WAW but those went 'as soon as they put them out'.

The closer store said they didn't get ANY of the pre-packs.

Oh well. I tried with two stores. I don't think I'm gonna waste anymore time on these this time.

Whether or not your GS will take in the POG games depends on their attitudes on disc only games. Ask before trading them in whether or not they're charging you a refurb fee on them. Mind you, some stores will tell you if they're charging you for not having a manual/coverart and some will not tell you until you've gone through the transaction.

However, I've had them cancel a transaction once I found out they refurbed the games I was trading in and I know which stores will and won't charge a fee anymore locally and I avoid the ones who do like the plague.:D
