Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Has anyone in the Kissimmee/Orlando area seen any POGs? I've called a few stores and thus far no luck, but at least they know what I'm talking about.

edit: two more called, one closed, one has no idea. Ugh! That marks four closed in the area now, wow.
I haven't gone looking this time around, and I've lost interest in cruising BBV after the trades tanking and stores closing. That being said, the last round of games, I had decent success at the one on OBT in Kissimmee.

The one at 535/192 is lousy for everything.
My buddy and I drove all around on Saturday calling and looking at Blockbusters in the Central FL area. My closest one in Clermont got 360, Wii, and PS3 POGS. I had first dibs and picked up a couple wii games. A couple other places had some 360. Off the top of my head Dr. Phillips, W. Colonial, and Kirkman. Most of those had slim pickings by the time we got there. We found a lot of them that were closed as well.
Thanks for saving me a vaguely considered trip - the 27/50/Hiawassee loop was an old standby for Sunday afternoons.

I stopped by 4 stores today. 3 had nothing and the other had about 40 games. I remember hearing these come in boxes of 30, so I guess I missed all the good stuff. I remember seeing Too Human, Saints Row 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Graw 2, Gears 1, Assassin's Creed 1, Bad Company 1 and a bunch of '08 football and basketball games. I passed on everything and will probably stop looking for these.

I got lucky called a bbv that just got a 360 shipment in got
left 4 dead 2
assassins creed 2
NBA 2k10
borderlands
resident evil 5
mw2
all for 6.99 each I'm pretty happy just gotta wait till they get in ps3 games

All these BBV with pogs, are they in the city or suburbs? The ones that I have seen with POG's are in the burbs within 5-10 miles of major city limits.

Again, if you don't tell us where, this isn't very helpful.

It's in the land of make believe with Mr. Rogers. Of course, if I were able to find any GOOD POG's(all I saw earlier today were games from 3-4 years ago:roll:)I too would not reveal the location of the store I found them at, especially if there were any left.

san antonio, tx
blanco/west ave
also the one on 281/evans has pogs
called stone oak, 46 and thousand oaks and they have nada
those are the closest to me not really willing to drive further at this point
I saw these yeserday:

PS3:
GoW3 $34.99
MW2 $49.99
Uncharted 2 $34.99
1 of my stores had Uncharted 2 for $34.99 too. They also had God of War 3 for the same price used. Anyone find any luck in the Cleveland area yet? Still nothing from my local stores.

Also, one of my local blockbuster stores is closing, I could get God of War 3 for probably $25 or a little less. Is it worth it?

I checked my local store again here in Connecticut. They really didn't have any POG's at all. All i saw were 2-3 older titles. I am doubtful any other stores would have anything at this point.

god of war 3 was worth the $60 I paid for it. In fact I bought my PS3 a year before the game came out specifically for GOW3 and nothing else. So I spent like 400 on it and the game. So I would say to me it was wirth the $400 I paid for it.

Yeah those stores are far from me. I went to the 2 stores on Naco, 1 on Walzem & 1 on FM78. Only the one on Naco closer to 1604 had anything.

GTA 4 was the game that got me to buy a PS3, even though it was multiplatform this gen from the start, only because the 360 was a total POS at that point. Otherwise I'd have a 360 in my home right now.:D

Anyway, the $34.99 price for God Of War 3 AND Uncharted 2 are the normal used prices for them now. I've seen them at every BBV I've hit lately.

The other local HWV that's going through the liquidation sale rigamarole now had a sealed/new copy of GOW 3 in the game case for 50% off $59.99(aka $30). But since I'd already played and beat it I had no desire to own it again.

Check Pompton Lakes, NJ store and they did not get any in and I also checked Butler, NJ store which did get them but only had a few left with Gears of War 2 probably being the best title left.

Got some more good ones today from the Denver area

All 9.99

Assassin's Creed 2
Left 4 Dead 2
COD MW2
Tekken 6

All XBOX 360. Most every store has some POGS but a lot of the good new stuff is gone now. Plenty of good older stuff.

Someone did buy the Borderlands I went back for, but I got Lego Rock Band for the kids. There are plenty of Halo 3, GTA 4 and Fallout 3 at the Kennewick, WA store if anyone's looking.
saw POG's

360 Destroy all Humans: Path of Furon x2
Wii Pokemon Battle Revolution

Are these worth anything anywhere?
Pokemon Battle Revolution shows up sometimes on Gamestop 'trade 2 games towards a preorder' lists. YMMV on how much you get if it's traded in without the case/manual though.

Don't bother wasting your time at San Jose (McKee). The lady told me they never got any MW2 copies and she was 100% sure since she said she was the one that priced them. She even said that if any were to come in the area, it'd be that store since they sell the most used games. She didn't believe me when I said other BBV's were selling it at that price so I think she just fed me a bunch of BS.
Where in Denver? I checked a couple stores on Colfax/Highlands and they had NONE!
Mostly south and southeast metro area....like Aurora, Centennial, Highlands Ranch. I've been to maybe 8 or so stores, 7 of them have stuff.

people in san jose,ca area shouldnt bother looking. the three stores in the area that have pogs have nothing of value only older games. guess we gotta wait til the next shipments.
Is there anyone who is able to get multiple copies of Modern Warfare 2 for $6.99?
Got 3 for 9.99 each. 6.99 price point is for the July 2009 POGS I think, I don't think the game came out that early.
Got 3 for 9.99 each. 6.99 price point is for the July 2009 POGS I think, I don't think the game came out that early.
No it didn't release until november 2009. When i got Left 4 Dead 2 it was in a July 09 Pog case and the game wasn't released until november 2009 too.

I guess just it just depends what person is doing the pricing
Got 3 for 9.99 each. 6.99 price point is for the July 2009 POGS I think, I don't think the game came out that early.
I've picked them up at both price points. I had some prepacks that were 6.99 (borderlands, MW2, DA:O) and then the same titles also seen at the 9.99 price point. Im not sure why, but at either price is good.
for the people going to a lot of stores cant you just tell them the part #275837 and have them look up for all the stores in the area? would save time and gas
Yep, but only if they cooperate. I tried it & got some older guy who was overly suspicious, paranoid, and either misinformed or a liar. All I asked was for him to look up that part# and he kept asking me to describe what I was looking for. He claimed that #275837 was a movie & that he didn't 'think' they had any in stock.

It totally threw him for a loop that I had a part #, and he asked me twice if I was an employee :)

So when I finally broke down & described what I was looking for, he told me BBV never sells games like that any more & that they're all sold off to a distributor.

So I'd rather stop by locations that are along my way as I drive from work or run errands, than risk dealing with someone like that again.

Nice!! Got...

Assassin's Creed II - $6.99
Gears of War 2 - $6.99
Grand Theft Auto IV - $6.99

in the NOVA area. Bunch of oldies that I wanted to play but didn't want to pay. :)
Me too. It's always cool to meet some locals. Any POGs in our area?
Checked the other blockbuster today at at clifton Nj in the clifton commons and did not get any. Out of the six stores I checked only three had them and only one still had a lot left. I wish I could find some wii games like the rest of you, but I have been finding mostly xbox games and one ps3 game(stupid coasting on blu-ray disks).

weird ive called multiple places and they all say ok and even look at surrounding stores. they do ask if im an employee though.

So I'd rather stop by locations that are along my way as I drive from work or run errands, than risk dealing with someone like that again.
this is getting ridiculous i've called and asked to and I sometimes I have people with a clueless reply and others seem sketchy, like they're trying to hide something. I'm pretty sure most stores have them but they're trying to keep it a secret for themselves, friends, and family.

Huh. Congratulations, he says, with jealousy. So did these stores JUST get the POGs in now, or have they been sitting there for a week?

Most likely just sitting there. Most stores don't give a shit and will let things sit in boxes for weeks on end. I know that's how my former store used to be with video games. It would always end with me having to price them and put them out because no one else wanted too.

Sorry. I didn't even look at what I wrote until you pointed it out. Horrible. I know for a fact they didn't just get them in. I drove 30 minutes to two seperate blockbusters that a local manager told me about. She had talked to the managers of those two and told me they got quite a few in. I have been to a bunch of blockbusters and literally only 4 have had a good selection. 4 out of 15 maybe? ALL but 1 have had new stuff but most of it has been crap and most of them a very tiny selection of new stuff.

i just went to a "local" store and she told me that they have the games in the back, and they dont have prices on them, she even asked "are you talking about the games in the clear cases??",

so yes, stores are lazy to put them out, but she did say that mayb on sunday they will put them out :wall:

Go back and ask her if you can look at them so they can hold them for you. Most stores have no problems holding them. Hell, I would have no problem selling them without price stickers or any stickers what so ever. Any employee who knows what they're doing can ring those games up manually in just a few minutes.

What I am about to say is by no means a dig at you or any other BBV employee who posts here but the bold statement may be a stretch for many BBV employees. I cannot tell you the number of times that I have had to walk employees through the trade in process or informed them of current promotions. Perhaps (hopefully!) their managers would be more informed but so often they are not available that sometimes shopping there for a good deal is more hassle than it is worth. Sometimes.

I think the BBV laziness factor is another thing contributing to the downward spiral of the company. There are a number of us (albeit a very small fraction of BBV's total customer base) who want to throw money at their stores but aren't given a chance just because the POGs are "in the back."

What a waste.

For those of you looking out there around the country, here in the Denver area a lot of the POGs were dated 07/06, which means they were just put out a few days ago. Others were dated 06/30. So if you're in a town and you looked last week, I'd look this week as well. Trust me, it's worth it if you find that magic store(s)!

None of the stores in Milwaukee area seem to have gotten shipments of these. Employees say they saw them 3-4 months ago but haven't had any since. Any Milwaukee area CAGs seen or heard anything different?
