Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
I see people saying "come on BB have the B1G1" well if they do the typical $14.99 and under most of us are screwed since the "Cleaning out" of the used game sections..

I know at the few I frequent there is a few crap sports titles under that price margin but otherwise is the same few newer released titles over $19.99.....
Unless a ton of games drop in price significantly in the next few months, a B1G1 would be useless. Not even my former store, which is a very game heavy store, has good used games anymore.
Or if there are tons of pogs that aren't worth 10
Out of the 4 locations that are close to me I never saw a POG at any of them and I pretty much ran out right away when they were mentioned here ;)

I think the best time was during the Circuit City sale (around the time I joined CAG), when there were at least 8-9 flippable games to BB, as well as FYE. I'm talking about Flatout, Driver: PL, State of Emergency 2, that top down WW2 game, etc; all good flips for either system. Perhaps the largest number of flippable titles all at once we ever had.
My apex of flipping was the GS to FYE trades of Powerdrome Racing:ps2:. Taking a $.99-1.99 game and turning it into $15-17 each time and turning that credit into a slim PStwo was a hell of a day for me.

It was hilarious watching the guy scan/swipe all 15-16 gift cards to pay for the system.

And yeah Derrick, those copies of DWG were worth $32 and 35 respectively at each Blockbuster for a long time. Mind you, not for as long as Cranium Bukakke was a worthy flip.

I only ever found ONE copy in the wild that was cheap enough to make it a good flip.
greatest flip Ever, I have so many. last winter I bought 15 Karaoke American idol Encore 2 nintendo Wii With Mic for 14.97 Each at Sears. The game by Itself was going For $50 Used at the time, New with Mic was about $80-90 on Ebay. and if i had held on they were up to about $120 a month later. A few weeks ago i found 16 Copies of MPT at TRU for 29.99 Each. But the best flip Had to be early in the year Buying Crappy used/new nintendo Wii Shovelware from GS and flipping them To CEX. Monkey King was 3.99 used-4.99 New. CEX was giving 19 cash-24 credit at one point. ninja Reflex wii was another great One 9.99 used at GS to $24 cash/28 credit. So many lame titles were getting serious cash, tale of Desperaux Wii was like $21/24, sam And Max season 1 how can i forget that one. 12.99/14.99 was getting $31/35. Brutal legend was great, BBv had it for 9.99 and GS for 17.99. CEx was giving $24 for about a week Dropping to $18. but i made So much off Brutal legend it wasnt even funny-damn im gonna miss Blockbuster. Samba di amigo was an awesome one too when TRu had it for $5. Cex was giving like $17 cash-3 weeks later it droppped to $3.00. flipped about 50 of those. It wasnt just the TIV's it was the fact that CEX Pricing was so bizarre and outdated. A whole slew of bad they were selling For $40+ but Other, Better ,harder to find titles were selling for substantailly less than they were worth-Notables including
one piece Wii-$15
karaoke Idol Wii 1-15
karaoke idol 2 wii-$12
Legend Of zelda collection GC-$10.00(3 times ive found this!)
transformers 20th anniversary DVD-6.00
Metroid prime trilogy-$28-32-its up to $44 now though
assassins creed 1 limited 360 complete-$18
tetris Ds-$28
Wii sports-$4.00

By the way was it ever confirmed that it was gamestop was the 3rd party that Bought most of Blockbusters games. It wasnt obvious to me before but it is now-F1 ps3, Madden 09 Nintendo DS and Beautiful katamari for the Xbox 360 were heavily available at Blockbusters but were NEVER available ONLINE at GAMESTOP, now all of a sudden these games which are out of Print are suddenly "available" and in stock at gamestop.com. Damn you lamestop, youve just given us Gameslop haters another reason to loathe you.

The company that purchased the games was posted before. It wasn't GS. I know GS bought out HWV's remaining stock though. I ended up getting like 4 games from their warehouse that had HWV stickers on the disc.

I think a good reason why Beautiful Katamari has been popping up is because people were buying them from Blockbuster (especially during the B1G1 offer) at $6.99, then flipping them at FailStop for more money. Shame too, cause it's a great game that's often way overpriced.

The last day for the guide sale was yesterday. (I had a reprice for all of them waiting for me.)

Mass Effect 2 drops to 19.99 today. BBC2 drops too. I don't recall the price off-hand though. Whatever it was -$5. Haha.

Last time I checked, we're still giving $8 for Madden 10 (and $6 for Madden 09). Gamestop is giving $2. Just sayin. This would be about the time that drops though.

BFBC2 is down to 30. Almost wanted to buy a copy of ME2 with my discount just to give away. 16+tax for such a great game, it deserves to go to a loving home..

Man, I want BC2, but $30 seems just a bit too high still...maybe when it hits $25 (or if I'm lucky, Family Video will drop it to $19.99 soon).
easily worth 30
ive been waiting to jump on this game, but my backlog is crazy right now....."Just when I thought that I was out they pull me back in."

ditto....i'm still playing the multiplayer for this game and have had it and paid $60 since launch day!

I rarely play multiplayer though. I do want to get the game to see what happens to BC though.
ditto....i'm still playing the multiplayer for this game and have had it and paid $60 since launch day!
ohh man...you just lost some CAG street cred :wall:
I rarely play multiplayer though. I do want to get the game to see what happens to BC though.
Just as a heads up the single player story in this game is very short, and pretty linear compared to how large the maps were in the SP version of Bad company...

I got this at launch for $60 and dont regret it and got like close to 200hrs in the MP but the DLC for this game has been total BS so far seeing its basically paying for unlocks.... The onslaught mode is not worth the $10 unless you need the trophies because most people got them and quit playing and mosrt of the people that still do are bone heads...

:360: monster madness was clearanced at sears for $5 or less and traded for $22ish for some time as well. Without Blockbuster, I'd have never bought Rock Band.
The last day for the guide sale was yesterday. (I had a reprice for all of them waiting for me.)
doh. *salutes $10 gow collection guide that was widely available at BB stores every where*
:360: monster madness was clearanced at sears for $5 or less and traded for $22ish for some time as well. Without Blockbuster, I'd have never bought Rock Band.
The Main flip of that game was when it was on sale at Circuit City for $7.99. Sears sold it for $49.99 so after a Pricematch and 10% difference, it came out to $4.xx -> $28. Best Buy also did pricematching but they didnt seem to do the 10% difference.
Cranium Bukake
Oh man, I can't tell you how many of those I flipped between BBV and GS. Didn't pay more than $5 in credit per flip to get $16 IIRC. Had to be at least a couple dozen or so. Ahhh, good times.:bouncy:

I will miss BBV, there were times they helped my cause out greatly. In the past 18 months I probably spent $5,000 (mostly credit) there with the B1G1 and other deals. My local BBV had a really nice, but maybe not entirely competent, manager who was always as excited about the deals as I was. I even tossed him a few pre-orders that I didn't plan on fulfilling just to help out which is very uncommon for someone as stingy as me.

I encountered so many incompetent managers the past couple years at these stores and you would see that carry down to their employees. I'm not saying that to disrespect the employees because there were rare exceptions who deserved better like at any place of business. BBV would often cause me more angst than anything because of so many of those people who hardly knew enough to do their job, and on top of that I had so many low quality rentals that were scratched up or without cover art. I guess that's standard across the used gaming industry.
thats amazing!! is that you making that or just some random dude?

the muddy bears im talking about though were not that big they were normal sized
It's a random dude. I was thinking about making homemade muddy bears, and wanted to see whether people made them.

That muddy bear video was a little scary. That guy let out to many Oh" and whatever to not be getting some sick pleasure out of that... that was a Fat Attack...

Looking at that video and instead of busting a load dropping chocolate on it wouldnt it be easier and faster just to melt that chocolate enough to dip it in to coat the whole thing and instantly toss them in the freezer to set the chocolate?

I got into flipping when it was the Beowolf for $10 to BBV for $30 then buying up the Halo 3's during the B2G1 Free sale (might have been a straight b1g1) and flipping them to GS...

God damn was that fun

The first big flip I remember was Drake of the 99 dragons for xbox. Was under $10 at GS/EB and traded in for 25 ish. Space Channel 5 for PS2 was also a great flip from the early era especially with the trade 2(or was it 3) get a used game for $9.99.

My favorite was finding Stanglehold, which was like 17.99 and 3-6 available at every GS near me during a b2g1 free and trading it in for like 35 or 36 ea. BBV, GS and Best Buy are like pimples on a kid with acne here, still amazed I didnt see a ban hammer out of that.

By itself, it wasn't the best ratio at the time (FF, etc)... but it was so easy to find and I had soooo many BBVs. I must have traded in about 25 copies of that game (paid for a 360 pro bundle and ps3)
Oh man, I can't tell you how many of those I flipped between BBV and GS. Didn't pay more than $5 in credit per flip to get $16 IIRC. Had to be at least a couple dozen or so. Ahhh, good times.:bouncy:
Same here  I even flipped a few back to other bbv's due to tiv being higher than the regular cost. It was like that for the longest time and was a fail safe, if I couldn't find any decent flips from gs to another bbv I would just trade a Cranium.

There was a Movie Gallery outlet that I used to go to in Indy which had those Space Channel PS2 sets for, like, 8 bucks, buy 1-get 1 free. When BB first started their gaming areas, you could trade the Space Channel set in as two games by itself, and it brought like $35 bucks for the two discs in store credit.

Literally, I could spend less than 10 bucks and end up with 2 SC2 sets which would net me at BB:

2 new game preorders paid for and an additional $50 bucks in store credit to pre order something else. I probably traded in 100 sets of those SC2 PS2 games, going to every BB within a 75 mile radius of my house to do so. I didn't pay for a game with my own money again for probably 2 years I had so much store credit built up. THOSE were DEFINITELY the days!!!

That would only have worked at Gamerush locations though (just being clear that it wouldn't have worked at "BB" as you posted - sorry, it's a semantic issue that used to get me riled up when GR-rich people would just call it Blockbuster). In those early days, the preorder promos were only at Gamerush stores. The trade-in and used game promos sometimes worked at regular ones. So I could never have done what you did because I only had one GR store (and it was the only one within a 600 mile radius). I was pretty much limited to 1-3 of each opportunity like that. Then it closed in 2006 or 2007, but by that point the GR-specific promos had come to an end.

Speaking of Gamerush, it has been years since I've been to one. Is there any difference between them and the regular stores any more? I mean, they must not have purged nearly all the used games from them like they did with the regular stores, right? Do they still sell systems and such there? No one ever mentions Gamerush any more .

There is no difference between the 3 "Gamerush" BBVs in my area and the regular BBVs. They use to have a bigger selection but that changed a while back. I know that 2 of the GR stores took down the signage but not much changed when they did.

A couple of my local stores that were Gamerush locations still have a counter and a glass display, but they are either mostly empty, or filled with old junk. One store has a couple used original xboxes and gamecubes for sale, but the same ones have been in there forever. One or two of them have a few random accessories behind the counter, like quick charge kits and play-and-charge kits, all full MSRP, of course. Those stores also seem more likely to get prepack POGs. But really, not much of a difference at all anymore.

X360 super street fighter IV dropped to $19.99. PS3 version still $29.99. Army of 2: 40th day and dante's inferno both platforms dropped to $24.99
Hmm dantes inferno is tempting I wanted to platinum it super street fighters not bad either
It's tempting me too. I still want to hate the game because it's title but I tried the demo and the game didn't seem TOO bad. Maybe when it gets to $19.99 I'll bite.
anyone know what left for dead 2 is going for at Blockbuster?
i think its still 29.99 but im not sure it might be 24.99
