Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

My best BBV flip was when I worked at CC. I bought the games for full price, then next day when they dropped to like 5 bucks I got the 110 percent price match and then traded them in to BBV. Dirty? (Beast Wars Megatron voice) Yesss. Mad trade in credit?(M.Bison voice) YES! YESSSS!
Lame, Apparently Blockbuster Online's game rentals have a 3 month delay (ie, July's releases wont be able to rent til October)
I wonder if this is because they are going to pull stock from stores to transfer to the Online service. Which then would mean less coversions to used games for sale.

I'm not sure if anybody still cares, but hawaiiboy was absolutely right about the price drop for Dante's Inferno (for PS3, at least). Other usedr PS3 drops I saw that I don't think have been reported were Bioshock 2 for $25, Aliens vs Predator for $25, and Bayonetta for $20. I myself happened to pick up the latest Prince of Persia game for $30.

I'd just like to mention that my local store appears to have ripped out the security sensors from the front door. I'm not exactly sure why they did it, but I do find it a little bit depressing. And still no bags...

A few months ago many people noted that their local store's game sell-through inventory suddenly disappeared. Its pretty obvious now where it went.

Maybe they're switching to a set of sensors right next to the door? That's how they are around here at the one BBV. They have these clear plastic things hanging on either side of the door for security now.

Take PoP back; Target has it for $20 new. I should clarify, I suppose, that another post said that price is good until 8/28, though I haven't confirmed it myself and the website price is back to normal.

Definitely. My local stores have started once again getting there used stock back up also lately. Not like it was but it is slowly growing.

I've pretty much convinced myself to pick up Dante's Inferno and no store around me has it anymore. Damn. Looks like I can wait for the price to drop further elsewhere now.

Saw today that we're putting up the B1G1 $14.99 and under signs up next week. I thought the sale was supposed to be for Labor Day, so this seems a little early to me. But we're changing all our movie endcaps too... so they either sent the communication a week early, or we're actually changing things before the end of the period.

Well, whether it's next week or the week after, it's still definitely YMMV. Unless there're some major price drops in the next week or so, the store I was working at tonight only had 5 or 6 titles that are $14.99. I think there are a few more than that at my home store, but still...

I was in the store doing an exchange and briefly browsed the used stock. Leftovers from the last POG shipment are pretty lame and nothing else was low enough to be worthy.

I went in to my local BBV for the first time in a while. Last time I was there it looked like they had been building up their used game stock since the big third party sell-off but it looks like they are back down again. They must have sent more off (for the online rental service perhaps?). They still had multiple God of War III and Mass Effect 2, but the cheap stuff is very sparse. They still had X-Blades for $9.99, which as been there since the last B1G1 (and I think I may have traded that in there a long time ago ;)), G-Force for $14.99, and a handful of other games. There's nothing I'd even want if there was a B1G1 next week. There's some stuff hovering at $19.99, though, that would be good purchases if it dropped to $14.99 - like ME 2 and Darksiders.

I was just thinking how normally we've had a big B1G1 in June/July and of course we didn't have one this year. Hopefully it isn't next week as I won't be able to hit up any of the potentially better-stocked stores. If it is the week after that would be better, though I wouldn't be too upset if I missed it entirely as there's very little I'd want using cash (as my BBV credit is long gone).

Maybe their expecting new shipments of used games coming in? Perhaps from closing stores?

very cool but my BBV are looking the same as most everyone else's so i know i won't be dropping a couple hundred or so on this sale (the other sales i've easily spent that much) but i'd be down if i could find a few good games!!!

Yes, our store is receving a backfill of lots of older games for PS2, Wii, PS3, and X360. Most of the stuff I see coming in isn't even worth buying even with a sale. I haven't seen anything about a b1g1 sale but I don't doubt the source as he's been correct about other stuff.

Much like IO, I went into my local BBV a week ago (I did a free month video rental with them) and saw them stock piling on used games. I went back yesterday and saw that they practically had nothing left, so if the B1G1 is indeed pushing through, I doubt it'll be for my area... guess I'll need to ask the BBV manager I'm friends with.
I really hope my local ones get some games, cause the used game section looks like a wasteland.
LOL last time I was at the blockbuster I mainly go to they had the entire used game section on 2 little endcaps lol....

Still mad that after the mad dash to close stores we are left with only a few around here and now they are so spread out it makes BB runs more time and gas consuming....

This is quite true for me as well. Although sometimes all that time and effort put into searching might pay off. I don't expect much from this if it does happen seeing as the selection is slim as is.

Well it may pay off at times but when the stores are spread out sometimes around 20mins apart just to go and see an endcap with 5 copies of God of War 3 and some other newer releases...

That not good at all I have one store within like four minutes from my place. Six more are about 20 minutes away but, fairly close together. Amazingly, I have yet to see a BBV close around here. The one thing that is weird to me is none of these stores have gotten POGs for over two years.

i have yet to see anything about a b1g1 sale but our store has definitely stocked up on titles that will qualify if there is one. we received about 70-80 titles on thursday and the transfer this week was is 40 games all but 1 are $14.99 or under. most the of the crap we received is exactly that as i dont think i'll be spending any "real" money on anything.

btw, avatar is dropping to $14.99 on both consoles effective 8/23.

My BBV said the sales is gonna start Tuesday. But as far as the games that are 14 and under, the selection is next to none (about 6 games across nextgen) The store still looks out since the big sell off a month or two back. Maybe they will get some kind of dropship during the sale period.

Hopefully there will be some more games added to the PS3 eligible list for this BOGO sale, since otherwise there isn't much on the list in the first post that I haven't already owned.

Although for $5 via BOGO I might give Ghostbusters another whirl since I got annoyed with how it saves the game without a notice to you that it's saving, thus making me have to replay about 20-30 minutes worth of game that I thought I already got through.

Hopefully if there is a B1G1 I can find the PS3 version. My son has been bugging me to get it ever since we rented it several months ago. I figured by now it would be dirt cheap but it hasn't been less than $30 anywhere. I know the PS3 version was pretty scarce before they transferred most of the games out so I'm not hopeful. I also won't be able to go to BBV on Tuesday - so hopefully the sale is the week after next if it happens at all.

i want it to happen this week im gonna be out of town all week next week. Where im going all the bbv's are out of business. I want the last copy of red faction guerilla and where the wild things are. there is also 2 copies of toy story mania left :O) and i locked in the trades about 2 weeks ago for 20 a piece

So Tuesday is the most likely day eh...hm, kind of want to do a scouting mission tomorrow just to see since just dropped by a BBV about 30 mins ago and seems that store is closing so yeah.

Was at the local BBV about two weeks ago. For PS3 there was nothing but 20 copies of GOW3, one FFXIII and one Avatar. Wii and 360 selections have been decent though.

I haven't been to my regular BB in a while, but last time we got a ton of POGs, so hopefully there is some good stuff tomorrow.

It is 100% confirmed. It is definitely starting tomorrow morning. I saw the paperwork and talked to a manager.

If u haven't been to a BB in awhile though, good luck. Most have little to nothing for games at this point.

I talked to 3 different stores and saw the actual list of promotions (whatever they call it). It is definitely starting tomorrow.

As always. I wouldn't call to ask. You never know which employees don't have a clue and then you inform them so they go look for games they want.

As I stated above. I went to about 5 today to see what they had. 3 of them had absolutely nothing. 1 had 1 game I actually wanted but just will grab a 9.99 game for free because of the deal. 1 other had 4 games that worked for me. Compared to the last one with the prepacks, this one is going to suck.

Unless stores have shipments they haven't put out yet, this B1G1 is NOT going to be like the others. It will be much much worse.

As stated by HawaiiBoy earlier, Avatar definitely dropped. It can be part of this sale. I saw it today.
In the morning, call and check but What is the trade-in value of MX vs ATV Reflex? Any system. East coasts may get it before me.
Sorry if i have not been keeping track but where did this come from?

What gave you the idea this would be worth a high TIV?

I stopped in a BBV down the road from me and they confirmed that the BOGO starts tomorrow.

There's not much in the way of decent $15 and under games for the sale though.

Yeah, I noticed on Sunday one of the more high-volume stores I frequent in a town over is going out of business. They definitely tended to have the best used game selection of the 5 or so in the area, so I wonder if the other stores are even worth checking, and/or if they have started the liquidation process, as well (meaning NO B1G1)...

IDK. I got for $3 bucks. If BBV traded it for 10, it would good trade.
