Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
I'll check out B1G1. I hope there's been some interesting drops since last time.
Judging from the selection at the BBV I checked last night it's gonna be a big waste of time for me to even try to find something decent I might want.

My attitude towards the sale this time is whenever I get there I get there, since I'm pretty sure the same selection(a ton of crap I wouldn't want unless they gave me them for free) holds true for my closest store like the one last night.

Has anyone been out to check if the B1G1 is on? I'll be running out on my lunch break in an hour....but was hoping for 100% confirmation before then.

Random question. Has anyone ever played Earth Defense Force? Every time BBV has one of these sales I contemplate buying that game and Universe at War. I finally broke down and purchased Universe at War during the last sale, so I may pick up Earth Defense Force if one of my BBV's has it.

I'm going to be hitting BBV around 12 eastern so I can post confirmation from my phone if no one has confirmed by that point.

EDF 2017 is shameless fun... not the best looking title but trust me it is fun.

If you want a fun, brainless shooter, EDF is fantastic. I picked it up on one of the previous B1G1 sales and my son and I have played through it twice. EDF is just a great throw back game that reminds me of some of the classic 16 bit titles where you just sat down and blew stuff up for hours at a time and didn't worry about story progression. :)

EDF 2017 is one of my favorite 360 games... if you ever do local coop, it's amazing.

Lair is worth a playthrough because it feels so epic. However, even with the analog controls, it doesn't play as smoothly as it could because of the framerate. I played it once and enjoyed it. However, it's not a game I would keep. Still, if you can get it for $5, then it's definitely worth it even if you only play it once.

Was able to get both wii: prince of persia forgotton sands & wii: legend of zelda twilight princess this morning for $15. Then traded them into gamestop to get $40 off of Halo Reach. :)

Sick. That's a nice flip. I feel a hunt coming on... suddenly memories of Quantum of Solace and buying copies of Fight Night Round 4 at Gamestop are rushing back to me...

I wanted to like Lair, but I couldn't get comfortable with the controls. It has been a long time, but I vaguely remember after the analog patch there are still parts you have to use the sixaxis motion controls.

2 BBV's by my work (SE Michigan) didn't have signs up for the sale. I was in and out of both quickly and didn't bother asking the clerk at either place if the sale was on. The selection at both was absolutely pathetic for all consoles.

i can confirm that signs were up in the location I visited (Parma / Brooklyn OH) -- however they didn't need to bother since they had about 12 games -- nothing I wanted.

Prices I noticed:
:360: Dark Void - $14.99
:360: NCAA 10 - $14.99
:wii: Tiger Woods 10 - $14.99
:360: Bioshock - $14.99

Remainder were PS2 games - nothing worth noting.

stoped at one location this morning and the sale was on... Grabbed Bioshock (PS3) and Mario & Sonic for the kid..

Was suprised to see that latest Dead To rights game on the 360 tagged $14.99 so that may be a flip..

Looked as though the store I was at had a small restock for the sale because there was nothing for under $24.99 last time I was there except a bunch of copies of Princess & the frog for Wii...

Will for sure check a few others today..

I'm sure that DTR was mistagged. I was at 3 BB's this morning and they all had it for $30

Anyways, I picked up:
Avatar x360 $14.99
Tiger 10 Wii $14.99
RB Metal Track Pack x360 $9.99 (w/unused code)
BF:BC x360 $9.99

I went to 2 stores this morning, and both had very helpful clerks. I didn't know about the Wii flips and didn't even look for those, but I did notice at one store (& confirm with the guy working) that they did get a bunch of stuff transfer but the other had maybe 6-7 eligible 360 games tops.

Prices of the things I picked up today.

360
Bakugan - $9.99
Fallout 3 - $9.99
Iron Man - $9.99
Legendary - $9.99
Lost Odyssey - $14.99
Rogue Warrior - $9.99
Section 8 - $9.99
Terminator Salvation - $9.99

and prepacks
Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian - $6.99
Kingdom Under Fire - $6.99

Wii
De Blob - $9.99

I guess I'm gonna have to head out and check this thing out for myself. I'm contemplating dragging along some of the games from the TRU deal last week, see if anything gets a decent TIV.

Transformers:War for Cybertron (PS3) gets $22 TIV... had the lady check.. I want ot get rid of this game but thats a little to low and it is BB after all so I dont know if I would be able to spend it lol...

Sale is definitely on - though my local store had maybe 20 used 360 games and 0 Wii games (regardless of price point).
Prices I noticed:

Wow, really?! A new BB I stopped by about a week ago had a ton of copies of Dark Void for 9.99 ea.

I picked up:

360 -- Battlefield: Bad Company(9.99); Red Faction: Guerilla(14.99); Street Fighter IV(14.99)
Wii -- UP (for my 7yo daughter)(14.99)

I haven't played any of these so I am happy.
Wow, really?! A new BB I stopped by about a week ago had a ton of copies of Dark Void for 9.99 ea.
The 3 stores I went to today also had them for $9.99
wow, didn't even realize another sale was on! I guess i'll have to hold out on buying shank today (or at least try to hold out).
People are buying that? I hope you're at least planning on buying Scott Pilgrim alongside it.

Where are the glitches, I want every 50% or something crazy. I'm going to swap some movies out on my Total Access so I'll check it out and see if there is anything worth grabbing.
People are buying that? I hope you're at least planning on buying Scott Pilgrim alongside it.
I actually wasn't planning on getting scott pilgrim even though I have all the books. It sounded like a fun take on river city ransom but didn't seem like a 'special' game to me. Is it really that good?

Dropped by 4 stores and nothing of interest. Had very few games even eligible for $14.99 sale. Otherwise total bust on my end.

Stopped at 3 stores today.

STore 1:

Best selection I found here. Had about 30-40 games. And I found alot I wanted here. Picked up:

Dark Void (360) $9.99
Lego Rock Band (PS3) $9.99
Final Fantasy Dissidia (PSP) $9.99
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics (Wii) $9.99
Okami (Wii) $9.99
Big Brain Academy (Wii) $9.99
Toy Story Mania (wii0 $14.99 x 2

Store 2:

Jack squat. Maybe 15 games and porr selection. Mostly disney related DS games.

Store 3:

Pretty crappy selction here too. Ended up getting the following though:

Rock Band 2 (PS3) $9.99
UFC 2009 (360) $6.99

After that traded in my 2 Toy Story Manias and Mario and Sonic and got $45 store credit at the local Game On. Ended up getting a Sega Saturn and the game Bugz.

Not too shabby for $55. But yah not too exciting of a selection as past B1G1s. Dont think Ill be going back to any stores. Was hoping to find Avatar, but no luck.

Did you try and have them ring something up? The first store I went to today, the lady tells me the ONLY slae they have going is buy one game get another 50% off ($14.99 or lower). I asked her if she was aware of the B1G1 sale and she tells me no, that the other sale is the only one going one. I then ask her to ring up the two games I had in my hand and go figure, the B1G1 worked. I then asked her if she wanted me to help get her foot out of her mouth. :)

2 of the stores I went to didnt have signs up, yet the sale was going on. So if you go to a store and see no signs, dont just assume the sale isnt going on.

PS3 UFC 2009 is 6.99? It was marked 14.99 at the store I was at and I hadn't heard it had dropped lower. May have to go back.

The store I went to didn't have much and no signs out, but they told me about the sale when I started browsing the games.

sorry, my bad. I got it for the 360.

Got some decent stuff at Columbia, PA.

Prince of Persia 360 - $9.99
Lost Odyssey 360 - $14.99
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 360 - $14.99
Fight Night Round 4 PS3 - $9.99

$26.xx out the door. Not bad.

Bah, nothing sounds too intriguing to me yet...I guess I'm gonna sit out today. Since I've got to work in a few hours, I would be pushing it to get back in town. Maybe I'll go check it out tomorrow when we get some more prices reported in. The BBV's I frequent are notorious about not updating their price stickers...I would have no idea what things actually cost if it wasn't for CAG. I usually know better than the employees, anyway...:)

Checked out 3 stores. One was close (out of business) and the other two had hardly any games that qualified.

Whoa. RSV2 should be $6.99-$9.99 without box and art.

Like others have said, make sure to ask. One of the stores I went to had no signs, but I asked the girl and she said yeah it's on.

Myself, I hit 4 stores in the area this morning and didn't find anything mind-blowing. I did grab a basically mint copy of Folklore to replace my incomplete one, plus Dark Legends (because I figure I can get $5 of entertainment out of it). Few other things I might grab tomorrow, but won't stress if they are gone.

After the last huge POG sale, when everyone was complaining about stores drying up, my numero uno store was actually getting POGs and complete games in, so I'm hoping if I stop by on the way home that there may be something decent.
