Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:
http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
If you were looking for the PS3 version of R6V2 I would tell you to check Sears, where it's only $6.97 new.

I almost picked it up at an out of town Sears I was at about 2-3 weeks ago, but with my backlog I shouldn't even be considering buying anything from THIS sale either.:bomb:
The Sears locations where I live are weaksauce. They are still ringing up around the 18.98 price point.

Not in a big rush for R6V2. I still haven't beat the first one, and I got that from the last B1G1 sale lol.

The campaigns are quite fun. But Ubisoft needs to update the series.

My ideal Rainbow Six game:

I love Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 and 2. I didn't think part 2 was worth the original $60, but it's definitely worth $7.50. I'm wholeheartedly a CAG, but I spent $26.99 on R6V2 and $54.99 on R6V1 at Gamestop back in the day and got more than my money's worth. It helped that I had a lot of friends to play with online tho.

While I'm on a tangent already, I gotta say Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands for the Wii and Deadspace Extraction are also worth the $7.50. I just played them for 30 minutes each. Maybe I'll finally use the Wii for something other than playing Mario games and collecting dust. :p These games are probably hard as hell to find because I bet each store only got 1 copy, if even that. They're worth asking about if u find a BBV employee willing to search nearby stores 4 u.

The sequel wasn't nearly as groundbreaking as the first game was to its predecessors, so in that regard it might not have been worth paying the original MSRP. It did seem more polished overall, though. However, the difference between the two is so slight, I couldn't pick one as being definitively better than the other.

What guns do you like to use?
I ran to 3 BBVs tonight but didn't find anything, two of them didn't even have any games under $14.99 :[
Not even pre-packs?

the prepacks left over at my store kinda stunk like 14 copies of guitar hero 3. although i did find lord of the rings conquest 2 for 360 for 6.99 that was a decent find. They also had godfather 2 for 9.99 but i heard bad things about it so i dont know if its worth 5 bucks

Godfather 2 is well worth 5 dollars, i don't know where you heard too many bad things about the game. I guess the worst complaint i could think of is that its short!

metacritic it got a 65 which is an ok score. but the first one got a 77 and i only kind of liked it.

Well, my BB that I thought would be a goldmine had a pretty good-sized selection, but nothing I wanted to play and nothing worth anything. But they have plenty of games over $20 like Dante's Inferno for $24 that I would buy if they didn't have the $14.99 cap.

Just a nightmare of a experience at Blockbuster on Sawmill, Columbus Ohio with Holly the manager yesterday, and this is the 2nd time. I've only visited the store twice this year, once forthe last sale (bought 6 games) and once for this sale (4 games). Two games were $14.99 and two games were $9.99. I asked if she would ring the two $14.99 together and the $9.99 games together (ONE TRANSACTION) so I would get the best discount (If you don't their register will take off two $9.99 games and no $14.99 game). She said she absolutely WOULD NOT do that. It escalated to a pretty ugly situation, unfortunately. I have never had someone be so beligerent in customer service in my life (TWICE). I called for the district manager. Hopefully they care enought to call back.

While I would prefer it if all BBVs rang up transactions this way, I usually just ask for 2 different transactions, because for some reason it seems that employees are much more OK with doing it this way.

It's funny you say that, because when I first walked into the store. I asked if they were having a game sale, and she said Yes they were... then added "just so you know, I will have to ring your order transaction on one transaction".... and I thought what? why would you say that? How random....little did I know what was to come....I so wish I would have been able to record it for U-Tube...it would have made the news....NATIONAL NEWS

Wow, terrible store. The manager at my local store rings up everything in one transaction, after totaling after each pair. She told me she was just glad to be rid of the games. "Less inventory for me is a good thing" is what she said to me. Odd other managers don't have a similar perspective.

Are you talking about the location across the street from Toys R Us or the one down close to Bethel Road? How was the selection at the store? I think I might try the ones in Delaware, Lewis Center, Westerville, Powell, and Dublin off Avery-Muirfield Dr.

I still don't get what is to stop you from saying "ok, I'll just buy these two 14.99 games then." Proceed to walk out the store, walk back in and buy the other two.

If she refuses to sell them too you, that's when you get obnoxious. I'm thinking something along the lines of "So you're company is in danger of going bankrupt yet you're refusing to sell games to me? .....And so to be clear are you are refusing to sell them to me, or to any customer who comes in?"

I went to some Blockbusters (only a few since I was going to be hanging out with a friend) The used game selection is dismal, especially for 14.99 and less. I still managed to get two sets of Halo Reach flips (Tiger Woods 10, Mario Galaxy/ Tiger Woods 10, Endless Ocean) Picked up four games for my collection, which is a terrible turn out for me and Blockbuster B1G1.

I'll try some more stores tonight, but suffice to say I'm disappointed. I'll probably space the trip out with pawn shops so I have a better chance of finding stuff.

No need to walk out. Just go "I'd like to buy these two. Let me think about these two for a while." Transaction one complete => "Yep, I'd like to get these two as well."

Also why is it that none of my BBV's knew about the sale except for the ones that were closing?

This is the location across from Toys R Us, 3 doors down from Blick. I get great service from the Blockbuster on Bethel and Sawmill.

My husband said the same thing...just buy 2 and go back and buy the other 2. I probably will if I don't hear back from the district manager.

I just really want her to do the right thing without me having to skirt around their system. It's a pride thing now. I refuse to let her tell me she's ripping me off for the difference, she knows it, she doesn't care she's doing it, and there's nothing I can do about it. I lost the fight in the store, but I am hoping to win the battle. I have never placed a corporate complaint in my life, but I'm not ready to let this one go. I know she's purposely ringing all her customers to a disadvantage with intent to do so. So many people have bad math and don't question their receipts. I dare Blockbuster to send a secret shopper into the store and participate in this sale.....they could fill a whole policy book on what not to do...

Must be just Holly, cause back in the Spring when this sale was going on I got four games from that same location and they matched up the 9.99 and the 14.99 titles.

Is there still anything left at this location worth picking up?

No....I only found kiddie games for my nieces, nothing more at this location. Lewis Center has a ton of games, but most are missing manuals and none looked interesting to me.

I asked the guy @ my blockbuster about sepearte transactions and he said "I can do it all in one transaction i promise to get you the best deal possible." And he did, he rang 2 9.99 ones then hit total and so on and so forth, really nice guy.

Wow, I must have lucked out by only buying two games at a time, because each store I visited sorely lacked in good games for the BOGO sale.

struck out at two stores on my way home from working. One had ODST, but nothing to go with it. I'm gonna call my friend at gamestop to see if he will let me trade in two of the same games. I haven't had a store let me do that in forever though :/

Did it just yesterday, it's not against GS's policy, if you're given any resistance just say you bought the games on clearance from BBV and you have the receipt to prove they are not stolen. It's the stolen goods issue that they are trying to prevent.

Then why do Gamestops accept multiple "disc-only games" from people for trade? I would be far more suspicious of that.

Lucked out at one Blockbuster and ended up getting:

-Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (X2)
-Dead Space Extraction
-Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

All complete!!! Total came to $26.25 after tax. I did see Dead to Rights for the Xbox 360 priced as $14.99 in the B1G1 bin. Price mistake?

What about the hoarding-BOGO deals issue? I'd hate to have to show my BBV receipt to Gamestop.
the prepacks left over at my store kinda stunk like 14 copies of guitar hero 3. although i did find lord of the rings conquest 2 for 360 for 6.99 that was a decent find. They also had godfather 2 for 9.99 but i heard bad things about it so i dont know if its worth 5 bucks
Godfather II is exactly like the first one was and I enjoyed that almost more than I did GTA IV and some other sandbox/action titles.

I really liked taking over the businesses in the game, although it did get repetitive after a while.

Both games are well worth $5 each though.

I bought a PS3 copy for my one buddy from Gamefly a while back and I ended up 'testing it out' for about 4-5 hours before I even realized how long I had been playing.:D
I still managed to get two sets of Halo Reach flips (Tiger Woods 10, Mario Galaxy/ Tiger Woods 10, Endless Ocean)
Just a note: You'll rarely find the information you're looking for under those keywords.

Just ran thru 3 BBV in Colorado Springs. Went a little wild but that was to be expected!
xbox:lost planet:needs instruction manual
eternal sonata
halo wars
midnight club:l.a. needs cover/booklet
fight night round 4:needs cover/booklet

ps3:tomb raider:underworld:cover/ booklet
dark void
avatar
marvel ultimate alliance
fear
bioshock
damnation

I had no idea this sale was going to take me for 75 bucks but essentially 6.xx per game i made out like a FatCat! The cover work from the prepacks shouldnt be too hard to get.Thank you CAG'ers!

p.s. anyone know good sites to get replacement covers, cases, and booklets?thanks.

LOL, which 3 did you hit? I was at the Woodmen/Rangewood, Austin Bluffs/ Barns & Powers/Stetson Hills yesterday and picked up 4 games.
IATCG posted a trading thread awhile back. There's also: http://www.videogameinstructionbooklets.com/servlet/StoreFront
Actually, I wasn't the one to start the thread, but there are about 300+ posts in it with various manuals/artworks/cases for all sorts of games ranging from classic(NES/SNES) to current gen(PS3/Wii/360).

Here's a link to it for those who might get some incomplete games and want the instructions or artwork for a game or three.

heh

at least i searched before i asked ;)

A few posts up someone mentioned that they saw ODST but nothing else to pair it with... Can anyone confirm that it qualifies for the sale? I was just at satire yesterday and all 6 were priced either 19.99 or 24.99 I thought.

damn, passed by my local blockbuster today when i felt something calling me to come in and check it out... ignored it because I'm broke, but if there's steals & deals like what's being reported in this thread, I may have to stop in and check things out.

Fairly slim selections at the three stores I went to today:

Delaware: Red Faction Guerrilla and nothing else worth noting walked away with nada.

Powell:
:wii:Endless Ocean Blue World 14.99
:wii:Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 free

:wii: No More Heroes 9.99
:ps3: Ninja Gaiden Sigma

Lewis Center:
Lots of 19.99 games only around six 14.99 and under nothing good.

Most the locations I saw would be gold mines if there were price drops on 19.99 titles. Darksiders, Bayonetta, No More Heroes 2, LOZ ST, Wii Punch Out, Assassins Creed 2, etc.
Yeah, I keep seeing 19.99 titles and being angry. I wish once they'd think outside of the box and up the max price. 19.99 or 29.99 B1G1 would be amazing.
No kidding. I stopped by one BBV last night that had a store closing sale. The DVDs were at a bargain $7.99 each. I mean, seriously. Although, in their defense, I'm sure that since the sale's been going on long enough, people have already cherry picked most of the good things.
