Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

You mean I can't pick up a $29.99 game and get a $9.99 game for free, they both have to be under $14.99? The kid at the store I went to yesterday did just that. Maybe I should go back and see if he's still there.

Also, does anyone know of a price drop on Resident Evil 5? They have it marked $19.99 at the store but Avatar was marked the same and totaled $14.99.

San Marcos, CA BBV was pretty bare. I wanted to get NCAA 10 for 14.99 but they only had the 360 version. Guess I'll try again tomorrow and the weekend.
Anyone ever had a problem taking a game that doesn't work back to a different store than it was bought from?
For me, it's like pulling teeth even when I tell them the store I bought it from doesn't have another copy of the game. In fact, I can't recall if I've ever been able to return a game to any store other than the original one where it was purchased.
Anyone ever had a problem taking a game that doesn't work back to a different store than it was bought from?
I have. The stores around here were pretty strict with returns, saying that you MUST take them back to the store you bought them from.

Of course, I was usually trying to exchange for a different game since I found out the game I bought sucked ass.:whistle2:# That's why when you buy from BBV make sure you like the game and it works cuz you're frickin' stuck with it.

I think I am going to head back to my local BB in a few minutes and pick up Dead Space and Prince Of Persia for 9.99 (assuming they are both still there) Ive been wanting to give both a shot and for essentially $5 each while I am tight on money rite now thats a pretty good deal..

I was afraid of that, it sucks when the game you buy doesn't work and there are no more copies at that store but every other one has them.

not much luck at my bbvs. 1st had nothing. 2nd had beatles rock band, avatar, 2 lego rock bands(tho one incomplete, doh), grandslam and princess frog. i was dumb and grabbed princess frog 6 at tru but im just doin 4 thru gamefly, get it done with. so i flipped 38->53 eh. i wish i could get any of those 5 games for the halo flip. i told the bbv manager about cag and those games, she said she wanted to preorder halo tonight, so hopefully she helps us out. lol. peace
Can someone clear up how much Halo Wars or ODST is? I see a couple people who bought those but didn't list prices.
I got mine for the 14.99 price point.out of all the stores i went to only one had one copy.

I almost grabbed that copy yesterday also, I just couldnt find anything I wanted to go along with it....That and I knew you'd be stopping by today for it ;)

Usually if they have display cases out for the copies still for rent they'll let you swap out for a complete case/artwork/manual set here for used games you're buying.

I have about seven BBV stores but since the last round of closings they're more spread out, so it's a pain in the ass to get to all of them and since the sell off a while ago to the one liquidator of the bulk of used games there's not much good left.

But if you can't find artwork/manuals to some games that you might buy we do have that buy/sell/trade thread for cases/artworks/manuals in the master trade thread forum on here.

Hit up three stores and the selection has been poor.

At least I lucked out at one store and found a couple of games to play.

Picked up Godfather: Blackhand Edition and Scarface, both for Wii and both priced at $9.99. It's funny how I wanted to pick them up during the last b1g1 sale but never was able to pair 'em up with another game. At least this time both copies were at the same store.

Really pleased that they were both complete and that the discs weren't too scratched up, especially nice considering how old they both are.

Out of five or so stores, every one has Halo Wars marked for 14.99 and ODST for 29.99. I haven't tried buying to confirm, but I doubt ODST is all the way down to 14.99. Maybe 24.99.

Also saw NCAA2k5 basketball for original xbox for 22.99 and I actually did confirm that's the right price. He seemed offended when I said it would never sell for that and he insisted that it might be a rare game. Then again they also had an OXM previewing Halo. . . ODST for sale as well.
she looked in the back for complete case but no luck. thanx tho
You're quite welcome. Another option to try if you get the games cheap enough and want to make them into complete copies is to shmooze a GS employee with a pre-order deposit of $5 on some game that you might have an interest in getting.

The worst that happens is you go back and cancel the pre-order before or after release and get your $5 back.

I found Endless Ocean and, of all things, :wii: Monopoly at one store, traded those in toward Metroid and covered the rest with some other games I brought in for the tiered trading. Pretty sure I'm done this round, unless before the weekend some more games land.

Stopped by today and picked up Indigo Prophecy and Syphon Filter Dark Mirror (PS2) for $5.34. Also found Fallout 3 and Ridge Racer 7 (PS3) for $10.69. The girl at the counter had trouble finding the discs but was very patient and didn't try to blow me off like most stores would have. When she found them, she asks "is it ok if i ring these up in two separate transactions? I'm not sure if it would just give you the $5 games for free". Awesome.

She also mentioned that they will not have PS2 games for much longer and that they may have already started putting them on clearance. If your local store still has some good titles being rented, now is the time to inquire about them.

went to 3 BBV's... 1 had nothing... the other i grabbed DMC4 (ps3), drawn to life (ds)...the last 1 had little though i managed to grab SW:TFU (360) and fallout 3 (360)...meh if you ask me but w/e
Man, selection was bad, but I managed to find PoP and Endless Ocean on wii for the GS Halo Reach Promo.

If only ME 2 would drop, at mine it's 19.99.
Same here dude, at mine theres like 4 or 5 at 19.99. ME2 is on that Trade 2 list @ GS, so if i could get them at 14.99 before the sale ends....

I haven't had much time to read the thread - just got back from a vacation to the coast with the family... I did stop by what used to be the biggest used game selling Blockbuster in my area on my way home. All I managed to grab there was a rather meh selection of Endless Ocean Blue World and Valkyria Chronicles. Don't get me wrong, those would be great pickups if I didn't already have them. But given that I dragged the family there after a long car ride I felt like I had to get something.

They didn't have my #1 target which was Avatar for the PS3 (my son wants it). But they told me another store close by had it so there I got that and Animal Crossing City Folk (another meh as I have that too).

So, yeah, all in all not too great: $30 for a game I wanted and 3 that I didn't really want but might find some use for ;). I'll update the OP later tonight.

You mentioned this before. Can you explain how this works again?
You mentioned this before. Can you explain how this works again?
Go in, put $5 in credit down on a game. Go back either before or after it releases and it'll prompt them to return you $5 cash instead of credit. At least it's worked like that for me consistently at GS stores in 2-3 different areas around here.

I try not to do it in stores where they've been lenient with me though.

BTW, I reserved Reach, but I might fully pay for the game and return it after launch day to reserve Fallout New Vegas b/c I already preordered Reach for $45 from newegg. If I do so (and don't cancel Reach before it comes out), and return it to a different store, will the employee still get credit for the preorder? Normally I wouldn't really care, but this guy has been good to me in the past and isn't the usual gamestop dick.

Got Uncharted Greatest Hits, NCAA09 PS3, Mario & Sonic at Olympic games and We Ski & Snowboard all for 5 each. Found a Eternal Sonata but it had the ring of death. For 360, saw Dark Void, Fallout, DMC4, Wet priced at 9.99, UFC2009 for 6.99. Might get Bioshock for PS3 for 9.99 and something else

Picked up:

Bourne Conspiracy (PS3) 9.99
Iron Man (360) Free

I saw Army of Two for 15 bucks but couldn't find a decent pairing.

i know this is probably gonna sound like a stupid question but.....i'm not much of a flipper so as i've been reading this tread it sounds like gamestop will take disc only for trade in deals?

Yesterday I went to 3 BBVs and only bought 6 games.
Today I went to 4 different BBVs and only bought 2 games (that i don't even really want).

This is very different for me than all the B1G1's going all the way back to 2007. This is the worst one that I can remember.

Don't get my wrong. I'm very thankful for the games I did find. I have about 12 more BBVs I'd like to hit up, but it's been hard since my college courses started this week.

At one of the stores I went to today, a BBV employee told me that someone came to their store yesterday and bought $150 worth of B1G1 games (so actually $300 worth). It's my own fault I missed it because I had classes that day and I voted in the primary election for my area.

The BBV employee also said that the man was buying PS3, 360, Wii, and DS games for his daycare center. That sounds like the most fun daycare in the world. I would have loved my daycare when I was little if they had SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, etc.

If the person I'm talking about is reading this, please let me know the games are going to a good cause.

About 3 of the 7 stores I went to had 1 copy of Avatar for the 360 and 1 copy of Avatar for the ps3. I'm thinking maybe each store pulled only 1 or 2 of each, if that. I'm glad to hear you found your son the PS3 version he wanted.
i know this is probably gonna sound like a stupid question but.....i'm not much of a flipper so as i've been reading this tread it sounds like gamestop will take disc only for trade in deals?
They should definitely take them if the games are in decent condition, but it's up to the GS employee's discretion on whether they charge you a refurbishment fee.

The amount of the fee depends on what game it is, but it could be anything from $1 to like $3.

It's been a couple years since they tried to charge me a refurb fee, but whenever they did I would just say "no thank you" and drive 3 minutes to the next gamestop. :)

Man, Monopoly on Wii is on that list for Reach/Other M? I found one copy of that.

Finding games for that trade offer has been terrible. I find one game, but then that store has a pitiful selection for 14.99 games, so I can't do anything.

Then my sixth store I've gone to has Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands and Tiger Woods 10. I'm like, holy shit, that's how flipping is supposed to be! But, then the guy can't find the disc for Tiger Woods 10. WTF, Blockbuster. Damn you.
A somewhat knowledgeable employee informed that if you preorder Halo: Reach you will get the following WHEN YOU PICK UP THE GAME ON RELEASE DAY:

A) A $5 Gift Card
B) A 25% trade-in bonus on all games traded in when picking up Reach

$5 seems meh to me and 25% on too little TIV is probably still too little, but if maybe this will help someone out, maybe someone looking to flip credit from GS ore something.

Now back to hoping for price drops on ODST, Darksiders, ME2, Bioshock 2, AC2, etc.

Unless it changed in the past 2 months, canceling preorders won't hurt anyone in particular except the store as a whole.

Returning items from one BBV to another is extremely YMMV as well. Returns really hurt the stores, so they try to weasel out of them in every way possible and "You didn't buy it at this store" is a common way to weasel out of it.

Sorry, but in case I wasn't clear, I meant that I preordered Reach at gamestop and might cancel or return it at another gamestop.

kewl thanks!

Went to one of the Blockbusters kind of near me last night and they had nothing.
No signs. No display. Not even any games that I could find that were under $19.99.
Thought it kind of odd.... but, hey, oh well. No biggie

just a hint for anyone doing the Reach Flip:

Mario Super Sluggers is supposedly $9.99 from BBV AND it Qualifies for the Reach Flip

so you could get $40 credit for $10 if you can find 2 Super Sluggers

You could get $48.30 in Amazon credit (or $46.00 in cash) from Gazelle for 2 Mario Super Sluggers. Then pre-order Halo Reach from Amazon, and also qualify for the $20 video game credit.

Mario Super Sluggers has to be hard to come by at this point. It has been 9.99 for a long time and was mostly bought up at that price.
