Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
And don't forget that you should not try this out tomorrow, because it will definitely not work. The price drops go into effect on Monday, the last day of the sale.
If you want to get technical he did post it at 1 AM so tomorrow would actually be Monday.

Guess im stuck playing Ncaa 2008 (its probaly the same game anyways)
I looked a bit in this thread, but couldn't get an answer. Do both games have to be $14.99 or under or only one of them?
Buy One, Get One Free on all games $14.99 and under isn't self explanatory?

To answer your question, both need to be $14.99 and under.

Ah, I could see how that happened. Sorry for the snarky response then. :)

I just made a quick trip to the local Blockbuster here. Their "sale" included one aisle endcap. There were maybe 15-20 game cases there, about evenly split between Wii, 360, PS2 and PS3 games.

I saw only one game I truly wanted (No More Heroes), but ended up getting Speed Racer for the Wii as well since it was free. I honestly had a hard time deciding whether it was even worth it, but since I wanted NMH1 it worked out. The manager knew of the sale (and even pointed to the endcap with the "sale" on it) but the regular worker had no idea.

If it wasn't 30 minutes to the next nearest BBV, I probably wouldn't have even picked anything up just out of disgust. And what kinda irked me about everything was the fact that at least a half-dozen Wii games I was interested in were for rent right next to the endcap (the sale was on the endcap of the Wii games aisle).

Went to my local BBV earlier, I saw nothing decent outside of a few Dark Voids, though they do have a bunch of games that, if they decide to convert them would be decent selections (they had PoP FS Wii, Darksiders and Bayonetta.) With that said, one thing they do have though is the mythical BBV plastic bags that have eluded stores for many months now.

Also, for those wondering, the 360 version of Bayonetta is indeed superior, but the PS3 version is about 98% comparable now thanks to the patch that Sony made (Platinum games didn't bother) to fix the loading issues, though the textures are still better on the 360. Still, at a BOGO sale, the PS3 version is well worth it.

You obviously didn't see this post from Hawaiiboy, did you? Bayonetta for both platforms will drop to $14.99 and Darksiders for PS3 will drop to $14.99.
Quite a few price drops effective 9/6 so you only have 1 day to take advantage of the b1g1 as the sale also ends on 9/6.

Bayonetta $14.99 both platforms
Darksiders $14.99 (PS3 ONLY) x360 will be $19.99
Mx vs atv reflex $14.99 both platforms
Band hero(wii) $14.99
prince of Persia forgotten sands (wii only) $9.99
Guitar hero van halen (wii) $14.99 we only carry the wii version so not sure about the other platforms.
Tekken (x360) $9.99 not sure about PS3 version as we don't have it.
Guess I'll look for Darksiders tomorrow even though my PS3 is out of commission right now. The console starts up but there is no audio/video, even though I've tried different TVs, my spare AV cables, and did the factory reset a bunch of times.

This sale is active now..I just bought Bayonetta $14.99 and Darksiders was free at Blockbuster Fairborn Ohio. Both games were marked $14.99 and scaned at $14.99.

Son of a bitch. I was just at a BBV. What's even worse is I bought a copy of :wii: Tiger Woods '10 and :wii: PoP: FS thinking the trade 2 for $40 at Gamestop will still be active tomorrow.

Guess I'll be visiting them again tomorrow for an exchange.

My local BBV was cleaned out after the first week of the sale. I will check tonight as I recall seeing Bayonetta and Darksiders in the non-sale section. Also, since hawaiiboy only has info on games in his store I intend to see if there was a price drop on a copy of RE5 that I've been watching.

A big thanks to the OP, hawaiiboy and all other contributors to this thread.

Thanks, but I think I'll just listen to the guy who has a long track record of good info.

I am so mad I am going to be out of town tomorrow and probably unable to stop at a BBV. Would love to pick up Bayonetta and Darksiders. Oh well, I made out pretty well on this so I can't complain too much.

Hawaiiboy is right (wish I had seen your post in time). I checked two stores and no price drops yet.

Blanks are another okami, lost odyssey, and beatles rockband 360

6 stores, 4 hours, $240

Getting ready to flip at GS $20 for 5 bonus tomorrow. Going for a reach console.

Will have to go back and hit up the price drops tomorrow though.
nice!!! but why Princess and the frog? how is that flippable? lol
GS's trade 3 get an extra $10, trade 5 get an extra $20 starts tomorrow.

It's all a matter of what you want out of it.

I don't see some of those being worth it, but maybe it is if you were otherwise going to spend cash to get the console at GS.

For example, Iron Man 2 last quote was $7 on Aug 30th. It may very well be less now, but let's say it is still $7. That is $7.70 + $4 = $11.70 in GS credit on $7.50 spent at BBV. Princess and the Frog is $4.40 + $4 = $8.80 on what, $5 spent, or is that one still $14.99? Those are OK, but nothing I'd drive all over for ;).

And was Marvel Super Hero Squad $14.99 or $9.99? Last I saw that was $14.99 so definitely not worth it. But it may have dropped and just wasn't updated where I saw it. Please let me know if that is the case.

Actually, it would be useful, akijikan, if you could post all the BBV prices for those games so I can update the OP.

Six stores and four hours and those were the BEST games you could come up with for $240? No offense but you could've scoured them for some of the better $20 and up TIV Best Buy flips and made more than enough for a Reach console off of just those titles alone.

I do need to better familiarize myself with the BB trades.
Actually, it would be useful, akijikan, if you could post all the BBV prices for those games so I can update the OP.
After having compiled things, I didn't make out quite as well as I had thought. it'll be like $105 made if all the TIVs hold up amd there are a couple that are older than I remembered when I checked from my phone in the store. But if they are low enough to not qualify I have my outs.

Blanks are another okami, lost odyssey, and beatles rockband 360

6 stores, 4 hours, $240

Getting ready to flip at GS $20 for 5 bonus tomorrow. Going for a reach console.

Will have to go back and hit up the price drops tomorrow though.
I'm a bit jealous...

1. Went to 4 BBV and didn't see half the selection that you picked up.
2. I want Halo Wars, Ghostbusters, and Okami for < $10 each!
3. (3) Tiger Woods PGA 10 for the Wii in your pickups...NICE
Iam I think some of the bb TIVs have already dropped. I was going to do another round yesterday.
I kinda figured some of the TIV's would've dropped already since I think anyone who monitored the BB trade thread would've seen my list I compiled in post #198 or so with all of the values $15 and over. Some of those who saw it probably exploited the crap outta them by now too, hence the drops in value.
What is the price on RE5 ps3, anyone know?
resident evil 5 ps3 is $14.99 so it qualifies for the sale. However, it is the normal edition w/ the reddish orange "5" on the cover, not the gold edition that's compatible w/ ps move. capcom said that there won't be any move patch for the normal edition. Don't know if you care about that or not though.

Will the price drops be live when they open at 10? I want to go and pick up 2 copies of Bayonetta before leaving to go to Yankee game, but I'll wait till after if there's a chance the system won't be updated.

Yes, the price drops will be live when they open. They may not be stickered correctly, but the prices should ring up fine in the system.

Just got out... Darksiders PS3 14.99 Bayonetta PS3 14.99.... Bayonetta 360 19.99 sucks to cause I wanted the 360 version haha oh well bought 2 of each so I have some good trade fodder

Seems that the price drops in VA was only for the PS3 on Bayonetta and Darksiders. I snagged both for PS3 bit would have rather had them for the 360. Still a good deal, thanks Hawaiiboy!

Just to help out fellow VA Beach CAGs the store near Greenbrier in Chesapeake has a ton of Darksiders and few Bayonettas (Like 2) but the manager was cool so go buy some stuff

Just got

:ps3:
Darksiders
Bayonetta
Guitar hero Van Halen
:wii:
Guitar hero Van Halen

Guitar Hero Van Halen for all platforms is 14.99. If one of the games listed is not marked 14.99 bring it up anyways and it will show up 14.99 at checkout

Confirmed drops and all stickered already:

:ps3: Bayonetta, Darksiders, MX vs ATV Reflex
:wii: Van Halen

Sorry, I don't recall what I saw for 360. Don't suppose anyone has noticed if :wii: Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics dropped to BOGO status?

Edit: Also, don't see it in OP, but I saw :wii: No More Heroes 2 stickered at 15

Picked up :ps3: Bayonetta and :ps3: Darksiders for $14.99 + tax -- sweet deal! Still had the $19.99 price tag, but rang up for the right price. Thanks again for the head's up, Hawaiiboy!!!!

Just snagged:

:ps3: Darksiders
Bayonetta

Both still marked at 19.99 and they kept trying to scan Bayonetta's upc code and it kept showing 39.99 (didn't have scan sticker on front or back). After about 5 minutes, they found the disc and on the outisde of the sleeve there were two scan stickers attached. Scanned both titles and both showed 14.99 I used credit I got from returning a non working game to another store. Thanks for heads up as always Hawaiiboy!
