Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
went to 2 stores both stores "bins" had 2 DS games 1 PS3 game and 1 360 game seriously this has been the worst B1G1 sale I have seen. Did get them to ship me Mario Galaxy though.:bouncy:
Ouch what locations?

Picked up Darksiders (360) and Lost Odyssey (360)
Very slim pickings at Fullerton, CA they don't even have any used game bins, just endcaps and randoms scattered in with the rentals. For shame.
Response to Manager: "Well, didn't Blockbuster recently sell off a TON of games that may have been on this sale to a large corporate buyer at discounted prices? That would mean that customers like me didn't have the chance to purchase any of them. I guess when you remove games from the market, you call it 'business'. When I do it, you call it 'cheating'; which is neither logically or ethically consistent with your own company's business practices. Now please ring me up and make sure to hit the 'Total' key before ringing up the least expensive pairs. Oh, and I'll need the name and phone number of your District Manager when you're through. By the way, do you have any more of those chocolate-covered almonds? They're delish! Thanks so much!"
Very impressive sir. :applause:

I like how you went with chocolate covered almonds reference instead of the usual Bagged Pickle quip. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.:)

I've asked at a few different BBV's about if the sale was extended and none of them got any news of an extension. One store I just called confirmed that today is the last day. One of my stores was expecting a shipment of eighty-something games, but it hasn't arrived yet. That really sucks because I was told they were all 14.99 and under games. I guess they will take up shelf space until the next B1G1.

I ended up buying Darksiders (ps3) and MX Vs ATV Reflex 360 for 14.99. One of the stores I went to today had 4 copies of Bayonetta for the ps3, but I couldn't find anything to pair it with. I guess I should have hoarded all 4, kept 1 and flipped 3 to Amazon. But then I would have begun morphing into the infamous and feared El Hoardo!

Thank you, thank you. I've often felt that one of my best qualities is my intuitive ability to produce well-reasoned sarcastic responses for others well after the point at which they'd actually be useful. ;)

Not much demand for a career using that particular gift right now though while David Spade is still alive, so I do what I can to get by while I wait patiently...

Managed to get Darksiders 360 version for 6.99. It was normally marked at 19.99 but there was no case, manual or artwork so the clerk gave me a discount. :D Now I just need to find someone who's selling just the case, manual and artwork..

Darksiders for 360 rang up 14.99?
Darksiders for 360 rang up 14.99?
It actually rang up at $19.99, but had a $14.99 sticker on it which the cashier adjusted w/o any fuss or me even asking.

I had a bizarre interaction with a manager yesterday. Much to my surprise, I found Final Fantasy XIII & Dragon's Age (both Xbox 360) marked at $9.99. When I took them to the register, the clerk told me they rung up at $29.99 each & hadn't been marked down in the system yet, so he had to get the manager.

When the manager came over, he bristled at the prices and said "Well I know the reason these rang up at $29.99 - because that's their actual price! Someone clearly took lower price stickers and placed them on top of the correct price stickers." Basically, he was accusing me, which was completely ridiculous. I argued with him that he had to sell me the games at the price they were marked, since I was pretty p.o.'ed by his implication. He began this long diatribe about how this had happened earlier in the week and he had made notes in someone's account about it, and insisted on checking my Blockbuster account to make sure I wasn't the same guy. I let him check it, and he went about typing a lengthy note about me in the system, saying God knows what. Regardless, he gave me the two games for $16 and change, but I'm still pretty angry about it. Clearly his own staff marked the games down. Ridiculous, and no wonder they're going out of business.

Yea, I hit 4 stores today and they all gave me the "You know the sale is $14.99 and under" spiel. I remember the days when the stores all had to have the reprice reports done the night before. I guess when your on a sinking ship, that stuff gets thrown overboard.

Two of the stores by me are going out of business. One didn't have anything as far as games go, the 2nd store I went to, but was closed, had tons of GH Bundles in the window. The last time a store went OOB here in Tampa, they had games going back to the SNES & GB (non-color). Hopefully the store with all the GH bundles has a bunch of older stuff as well.
It doesn't help that people who are buying their games don't actually care about the chain.
Personally I don't give one shit about the dickheads at the top who ran this company in the fuckin' ground like Circuit City, HWV and every other mismanaged and heavily in debt company that has gone under in recent years.

Why? Because when all is said and done, those fuckwads will walk away with MILLIONS in compensation for bankrupting a company and probably go on to do so again when another company hires them to work their 'magic'.

Yet who gets the most hurt when a company goes under? The hourly and salaried employees do, that's who. These folks who gave years of their lives for a company are out looking for work in one of the shittiest economies in YEARS and trying to crawl over millions of other unemployed people and trying to make themselves stand out to get hired at yet another company that won't give a shit about them for a second.

Sorry for ranting. But I DO care about the employees who I've become friendly with from the various sales and random visits and when the HWV stores by me I wished them well and that they find something soon if they didn't already have something else lined up.

I understand the snarkiness on the part of the managers, even if I don't appreciate it. After all, they're losing their jobs soon enough.

But the lack of logic puzzles me. So they DON'T want to move a lot of product, even when they're bleeding out? I've argued this point with a Dallas manager numerous times, but she always sticks to her guns and only sells me one of each game.

Yeah, they give you the most quizzical look and then quote the terms of the sale to you. I just wish once someone would say, "The sale is for games 14.99 or under, but I can check the price of this game for you to see if maybe this tag is out of date"

What's worse is it if you're buying two of the same game. They all look at you like you're a retard and say, "Two Bayonettas?"

Picked up PS3 Bayonetta and Darksiders. Both were marked 19.99, until I got the guy to price check, at which point he got the rest of the copies so he could sticker them with the correct prices. Thanks CAG and Hawaiiboy.

This reminds me of about 7 years ago when HWV was actually semi-decent. That is until they tried to say I didn't return a dvd rental & ended up charging me 75 fuckING DOLLARS!!! I didn't pay it as I know that I returned it. Eventually it ended up on my credit report. I disputed it, but I might as well been talking to a brick wall. I'm sure some employee probably stole it.

If anyone got an extra set of Darksiders/Bayonetta I would would be interested in buying it off of you. My local store didn't have either one, sucks too I drove 20 miles each way to check. I'll pay for your shipping, time. etc. Just me a PM. Thanks.

Congratulations, you have found the rare and valuable POG.
Wait that's what a pog is? Just the game disc?
POG stands for Pre-Owned Game, which is a used disc only game.

Got in on the Darksiders/Bayonetta deal, thanks for the heads up.

Sadly there used to be about 7 Blockbusters in a 10 mile radius and now it's down to 3. Gonna miss them when they're gone, games from these B1G1 sales make up about 2/3 of all my PS3 games.

I have a PS3 case, manual, and art. Don't think I have the 360 one though. :(

Picked up today:

Bayonetta (PS3) x 2 $14.99
Darksiders (PS3) x 2 $14.99
IronMan (Wii) $9.99
IronMan (360) $9.99
MX Vs. ATV Offroad Fury (Wii) $9.99
Brutal Legend (360) $9.99
Lego Rock Band (Wii $9.99
Bioshock (PS3) 9.99

Than took that in and got roughly $120 in Gamstop credit after the bonus $40 for two sets of 5. So doubled my money. Used that to help buy a ps3 slim 120 gb.

I went to several stores today and got a nice assortment of stuff. Bayonetta and Darksiders were present at every store, usually in multiple quantities (as many as 5 of each at one place). I had to go no further than my local store 1/2 mile away to get one of each for myself though. I just thought it was interesting how many more I saw the rest of the day (and yeah, I did buy a few more but left plenty of them). It doesn't seem anyone else around here knew about it. And regular customers wouldn't know, of course, since I think only 1 store had correct pricing on them. In addition to those, I got Tiger Woods 10 Wii, Band Hero PS3, Bioshock PS3, Tekken 6 360, Rock Band 2 PS3, Lego Rock Band PS3, Beatles Rock Band PS3, GH Van Halen PS3, No More Heroes 2, Star Ocean 360, Damnation PS3, MX vs ATV Reflex PS3, Top Spin 3 Wii, Bully 360, Pure PS3, Avatar Wii, Big Brain Academy Wii, Godfather Wii, Scarface Wii, and a few others.

It seems the one game that just doesn't exist around here but others have been finding is PoP Forgotten Sands for the Wii. They must not have converted any rentals for that here for some reason.

I also got 4 $6.99 prepacks. Those were strictly for GS trading (though I may end up keeping Incredible Hulk if the kids want it) - had the prices been more up to date in the GS thread I might have gotten a few more. I mean seriously, these have been sitting around for what, 2-3 months now? If they were still there at the very end of a 2 week B1G1 I felt no remorse in taking them to flip. It was almost shameful, actually, that no one had bought them yet ;).

the place i went to in bellflower told me they could only sell 2 of each game for each system per day(anti-el hordo tactics);
i picked up a bayo (ps3)
2 darkies (ps3)
dark void (ps3)
van halen (360)
undisputed 09 (360)
nhl 2k9 (wii)
trauma center 2nd op (wii)
for a clean $52
the ps3 stuff and van halen looked good, but the other 3 were a bit worse for wear...
no word on an extension of the sale, and the place was a bit disorganized, but nothing too bad...
they had a few extra darkies for ps3, but that was it...
everything else from the sale was pretty dried up...

So managed to hit up 8 or so BBVs in SoCal this afternoon/evening while I was out doing other errands. Wasn't until the last store where I was able to get both Bayonetta and Darksiders. Great customer service at all stores that I bought something, and I even got a few bags! But this is what I got today:

PS3:
Soul Calibur IV (Game Only, generic case) - $15
GH: Van Halen (Complete) - $15
Darksiders (Complete) - $15
Bayonetta (Complete) -$15
Band Hero (No manual, otherwise complete) - $15

Wii:
Godfather Blackhand Edition (Complete) - $10
De Blob (Complete, though a little beat) - $10
No More Heroes 2 (Complete; they accidently gave me No More Heroes (first one) by accident, got it changed, but just looked at receipt and they charged for the first one) - $15 (though got charged $10...)

NDS:
Lego Rock Band (Complete) - $10
Marvel Super Hero Squad (Complete) - $10

Oh damn! I didn't know these qualified - GH Van Halen PS3, No More Heroes 2, Star Ocean 360. Those would have gone in my collection. I think this B1G1 was the best yet for me. It seems like very few people were interested in the sale. I made my final rounds today and found some stores I hadn't been to yet, full of stuff. There sure was an incredible amount of bayonetta and darksiders around.
For those interested, :ps3: Bayonetta is today's Amazon Trade In Deal @ 17.00 - I think it was 14.00 yesterday (whoo!).
Complete copies of :ps3: Bayonetta were nonexistent in my area:bomb:

Not bad, not bad at all

Damn, that sux, the BBV I went to had at least 3 complete copies of :ps3: Bayonetta.

I only found one Bayonetta, but like 10 Bioshock 2s and Darksiders when I went today. Kind of want to play Bayonetta too so I'm debating the Amazon flip. Hope they don't mind the slight crack on the back side of the case if I do...

Too funny! Thanks.

I was expecting it to plummet below 10 bucks today...But I canceled and reupped the value. Does amazon charge tax on it's trade in credit? ( I live in wa state)

Stopped by my local bb today to see what I missed and to see if they would let me slide on the deal 1 day after.... Sure enough they had bayonetta and darksiders ps3 for 14.99 each. I tried the ole "Is the BOGO sale sill going on?" "Nope" Thought maybe once they would be nice.

So was going through my games, and realized that they had put a Final Fantasy XIII manual instead of Darksiders in my Darksiders box. Think they'll let me change it (just the manual) if I go back this weekend?

Also, anyone ever have any luck getting them to switch the boxes at different locations? Got a game in a generic case, but they didn't have any rentals of it, so I couldn't ask to switch the boxes and manual with a rental copy. If I go to another store, think the employees would let me change them?

If you get a cool manager it is possible. I have been able to do a B1G1 at one store and change out the unwanted game of the pair to another store for something I wanted. They usually check to see if their inventory will allow this first. I have also changed out cases and manuals.

I will usually ask for such things, but one CSR would not let me take the cover art off of a rental (they had two) when the Darksiders I wanted to buy had two manuals instead. Oh well, there are enough stores left around where I live to just try somewhere else.
