Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:
http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I was about to be pissed about this since I just bought that when it dropped to $14.99 but then I remembered I bought it during the B1G1 sale ;).

This may help my decision on whether to hold out hope for a B1G1 on ME2 or to get it now. I've only tried out my ME1, but it seems cool. OpFlash I can wait to get cheaper and I can't recommend Dirt 2 enough. That's the best price I've seen on it too. Just don't get confused and get the Wii version.

Just make sure you get one with the code card that has an unpeeled/unripped back to the code card. You'll be fine then.

thanks, grabbed the only complete copy. just fyi none of them come with the cerebus codes, the games were all stripped before they got them. I got the code by other means from gamestop >_> but yeah, awesome price. thanks guys. Mine has 3 more copies but in big clunky clear cases

By other means from gamestop? I really would like a cerebus code as I just purchased a used copy from BB. Anyone, know where I can get it without having to pay the full price of the DLC online?

I have a extra Cerebrus code for $5

(for those of you wondering its because I got my copy from a gametest played it 5 mins and dumped it to amazon for $40 without ever redeeming the code)

Went in looking for Dirt 2 on 360 but they had none. Saw like 10-15 copies of ME2 already marked at $9.99 too bad I already have it. Almost bought a 2nd copy to give to my bro but he is lame and thinks it's all rpg.

In for ME2 and OP Flashpoint... Guy behind the counter got bug eyed and told me they were both full price... I told him that wasn't what the pin pad said, guess he wanted them since they were both the last copy, lack of manual in ME2 was odd but expected

Just another heads-up, I picked up a copy of Borderlands for 20$ used. Not sure if new has the same price, but it's a good deal nonetheless. Also Mass Effect 2 copies were all pre-owned and stripped of the cerberus code, as others have mentioned.
Where in Denton? The BB by TWU?
Yeah, the one on University. They still had about 6-7 copies left, but honestly most of the discs didn't look all that great. She let me look at them and I picked the best-looking ones, but they still looked kind of iffy. They installed to my 360 fine though. None of the cases appeared to have any Cerberus codes in them though, just FYI. (I bought, beat, and sold it at launch... so I didn't care). Its only $20 new on Amazon right now, just a heads up since the Cerberus Network access is $15 on XBLM.

I didn't even think to look for Oper. Flashpoint; just not that interested.

Nah... I will just wait to buy new at $15 or something like that. I already have a huge backlog...

Thanks for the follow up.

Checked my nearby BB and they still had a ton of ME2s. No codes in cases. While I was checking a few an employee that I talk gaming with walks up with a strange look on his face and still ignores asking me what I'm doing to pimp a Black Ops preorder on me. I politely declined and asked about the cerberus code cause I was thinking of getting ME2, but didn't want to have to buy a code. Turns out they take alot of the inserts out and do who knows what with them. He went behind the counter and started looking thru drawers at the stacks of inserts they had removed including a ton of inserts from Reach and then a bunch from ME2. He said it was for a set of Inferno armor though and not a Cerbeus card.

It's been that price for a while now. I might as well wait another year or so when I can find the already announced GOTY used.

Haha my blockbuster forgot to change the price tags on Mass Effect 2, so I had to ask them to ring it up on the counter and check if it's $9.99. Mine had a whole bunch left, and I went back at 7pm lol.

I was surprised that my local store already had the price updated. They are normally quite terrible at such things. I snagged ME2 for a second time, as I always said I would play through it again when I could get it back for ten bucks or less. Today is that day.

Re-purchased (the game I returned to EB after 1 week) Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. At the time $59.99 was too much, now $9.99 @ Blockbuster seems about right. For that price I'll give it another go. Maybe they patched it since then.

My Blockbuster still had it marked at $19.99. I asked them to scan it since I had it on "good authority" that it was actually $9.99. I love their expressions when they find that I am right! Thanks CAG and HawaiiBoy for making me look like a Blockbuster insider.

went lookin for operation flashpoint but no luck. oh well, im gonna use my discover $25 giftcard bbv for a psn card and some candy for my kids, lol, peace. thanx alot hawaii boy
I would jump the gun for ME2, but I'll wait for the PS3 version to come out.
Is there really going to be that much difference to spend $60 instead of $10?

I thought for sure they'd be all gone at that price but they had a few left so I got one (ME2). I bought the game new a while ago but had to sell it, so I already had downloaded the Cerberus network stuff.
Is there really going to be that much difference to spend $60 instead of $10?
Not that I think it'll be worth $60, but I'm pretty sure it'll have all the DLC included on disc.

I read the following in an online article dated 3/10:

"The Cerberus Network, which delivers free and paid for DLC, is free to all gamers who buy a new copy of Dragon Age: Origins or Mass Effect 2 so long as they redeem the code within the box but otherwise costs $10."

I registered with the Cerberus Network using the code from my Dragon Age: Origins box. Will ME2 content be available to me or do I need the code from the ME2 box?

I will test this out myself if I can get a used copy, but I don't want to buy one from BBV since they don't readily take returns.

Anyone know if it still costs $10? Another article said 1200 MS or BW points.

EDIT: The more I read, the more it looks like you need a code or points to access the network itself. Once registered, all free DLC should be available to any network user regardless of how s/he gained access to the network. I was just holding out for the code, but it looks like I won't need it since I registered with DA:O. I'll confirm if no one else does before I try it out.

Found 3 at Blockbuster Phoenix 16th St & Glendale. Now there's two!

They also had a brand new xbox double case behind the counter for it. No code though.

offf topic but i really been wondering...what REALLY happens to those ps3's that are on display at closing BBV's?

they always seem to be sold the first day of liquidations...

they arent sold. they ship them back to the distribution center which then disburses them to whatever store needs one. i've helped close a lot of stores and the first thing people ask is how much for the ps3 and the tv. those are about the only 2 things that are not for sale.

couldn't find flashpoint but wow was there a lot of marilyn monroe stuff all over the store!

@hawaiiboy
do you know if blockbuster ever had watchmen ultimate edition blu-ray? the set doesn't have the games but it has the tales of black freighter integrated into the director's cut. it has gone out of print but I was wondering if blockbusters had any to begin with. i haven't found it yet.
It's this one: http://www.amazon.com/Watchmen-Ulti...EQR4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1286441423&sr=8-1

No our store has never carried it. Obviously every store has different stock but our store typically has the best selection as we are the busiest store in the district. I can double check on this tomorrow just to make sure though.
