What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

anybody know what the last day is gonna be like? like all the prices because all the stuff needs to go. Just curious cuz I'm waiting till the 9th and the 10th to buy up whats left of the blurays. thanks, and to HawaiiBoy, thanks for everything so far
Definitely a great buy, a desk/counter of that size and quality is a steal at that price.
Yeah, that's why I bought it. For that price, I'll make it work. They wanted ~$300 for the thing a few days earlier and I pondered it then. Once I saw they dropped the price, I had to jump on it.

Assuming there's not just straight to video movies with actors you've never heard of left by then your best bet is usually to hit up the closing stores during their last couple hours in business.

If it's anything like prior store closing sales, then anything still lingering during that last hour will go $1 apiece.

But as I said you'll be lucky if you find anything but direct to dvd movies starring the third cousin twice removed of some A list Hollywood actors by that point.

Although on the last couple of days in business the one Movie Gallery had a TON of XXX shit left in their backroom.

Awesome.. thanks again

Whelp, tomorrow is the last day for all the currently closing stores. I'm heading over in the morning to see if there are any decent Blus or DVDs left for a reasonable price.

If you were considering going to the Fairlawn, OH location ... Id say don't bother. There were 5 crap games there, at 40% off. The used blu-rays were 20% off, and this store is suppose to close tomorrow? Also, there was a horrific accident on 77N. I make it a point to never look at accidents, but on the way back, it was hard to not notice a flipped over SUV, that was charred. I hope whoever was involved in that, that they won the lottery and survived. I'm very glad I was too late to see what happened.

Disc only copy of Capcom Fighting Evolution for PS2 $34.99 with 40% off WOW.

I've stopped even considering wasting my time at these closing stores. I went into one yesterday despite my best instincts otherwise. Some nice chairs for $10 apeice but nothing else worth buying.

I don't suppose anyone has seen the strategy guides drop to a reasonable discount? I was thinking of going for one last look but if they're holding them at 10% off still, then screw that.

That's the one I would be going to. What were the DVDs at?

Saw Mindjack (PS3) at Lemon Grove, CA for 18. TIV was 16 as of earlier this week, but I just blew almost all of my paycheck on car registration + smog, so I don't see myself buying games right now. PS Magazine also gave it a 3/10, so I think this game will drop fast just like Kane and Lynch 2, another S-E production.
60% off, if I remember right.
Ok, thanks. If I go I'll probably go late in the day to get the highest discount if there's any worthwhile DVDs left.

O man I traded a guy from Craigslist UFC2010 and Kane and Lynch 2 a while back for Halo Reach. He messaged me later asking what was wrong with the game with like the look of it.

At the closing sales last year DVDs were at $.99 almost a week before close.

As of Friday, movies were still at $3.99, Blus were at 25% off and there were no games left. There are still plenty of disc only $.99 DVDs, but most are crap titles. I asked Friday if they had any empty PS3 cases left and they said they had thrown them away.

If these closing sales are anything like the ones from prior chain closing sales, then your best bet is to be there within the last hour of business. From what I've seen most of these closing stores close at 9pm now, but if they have next to nothing left and most of the shelving has been sold then they may close earlier and/or transfer the rest out to stores that're staying open.

But be warned that if you're going in there expecting to grab a full tv season box set you're likely fucked, since people tend to buy up random discs earlier in the sale and then come back later for the rest when the discounts are steeper.

I guess I was spoiled by closing HWV stores (where I was getting DVDs for under $2). I went to my local closing BBV and all the DVDs were $4.99 and Blurays were 20% off. The only games in sight were Bayonetta and NCAA Football at 60% off. Like everyone's BBV, the guides were only 10% off. I was surprised at the lack of "deals" with the store closing in 2 days.

Atleast, I was able to buy a box of grape Mike & Ikes for 50% off. I paid $1 for it... the same price I would pay elsewhere. :/
What was the "Big thing" that was supposed to be announced on the 7th btw?
I believe that would be THIS .

tl;dr: Dish Network bought Blockbuster's assets for $228m via auction.

Yeah, it's funny it wasn't mentioned in here. I actually read it in my local paper the other day. I guess while it is sort of big news for BBV (and means the remaining stores are safe for now), it has unknown consequences at this point. Dish could take it in any number of directions, so we have no idea how it will effect our primary concern here on CAG: B1G1 sales ;).

I'm hoping for a b1g1 real soon. Battelfeild BC2 is trading for 15 to GameStop

The local closing stores here are only open from noon to 5pm today. They still had lost of season sets together but the prices were still at $10. Not sure if it will be worth checking out.

At one closing store yesterday, I was told that prices weren't going any lower today ($2.99 movies, 25% off blu, 40% off games, $9.99 dvd tv series sets), and they would be shipping out everything left over. We'll see if that is true, or just hyperbole, but unless someone reports otherwise, I'm not sure that they'll be matching the awesome 99cent and lower prices that some of us got on the final day or two of closing stores from the last round last year.

i listened in while the cashier told this to a customer and then talked with a other worker about how they are going about it once they closed. said that they don't want to dump a lot of those crappy movies. there were a lot of horror movies i wanted but wouldn't pay more than a $1 for, probably atleast 15-20 of them. oh well, their lose.

Yeah, looks like their surviving stores will end up very well stocked with crappy movies, and complete seasons of Lost and Weeds. Whatever.

(No further drops today, was in at 4:30, shortly before the early closing.)

No price drops at my local store at about 3:30 (originally they had a sign posted that they would close at 5pm). But I did get an unexpected suprise; thirty minutes before close some new games started showing up on the front desk with price tags on them. I saw Bulletstorm for PS3 and 360, Fallout New Vegas for 360 and Killzone 3. At 40% off they were $35 each. The PS3 games still had the DLC codes. The cashier said she didn't think they had even been rented out.

These were probably held back and the employee decided they didn't want them.

The only problem is, I think $29.99 is soon to be the new MSRP for FO NV, plus you KNOW they'll probably release a GOTY edition of it.

Let's just hope all of the glitches are fixed by the time that comes out though.

The one closing store I was to last month had copies of Bulletstorm and KZ3 as well as Dead Space 2, but thanks to Amazon's Warehouse Deals I couldn't pull the trigger on those 'deals'.

I didn't really look too closely at the 360 games since I don't have that console, but I think NV was $24. Against my better judgement I grabbed the PS3 games since they still had the DLC. I figure $35 is about the lowest sale price you will have for those two games at any retailer for another 4-5 months.

And if the one store close to my house closes I'm dumping the Blockbuster online as well. If I can't return movies, I may as well go Netflix all the way.

Was a good way to flip them about 1:1 to Best Buy (before they dropped) to get out from my $100+ of BBV credit. Picked up a couple, full 24 case of 20oz sodas (~$10), some $4 kids DVDs and some candy before mine went under while I was on vacation. So I missed the last days.

The BB credit will eventually moved to Amazon so it's a good swap for me.
Looks like the end is near... Blockbuser shuttering all but 600 stores?
#-o... It certainly is the end of BBV as we know it. I mean, when GR first started up there was certainly a lot of BBV stores that needed to be closed just because of redundancy (stores a mile apart, stores across the street from HWV stores, etc). But they took care of that inefficiency a while ago (probably with the closings 3-4 years ago). Since then, any additional closings have just been because their overall business is failing. I mean, if they want to have a viable rental chain up and running, it makes no sense closing any more stores. They will become even more irrelevant if so few people have access any more.

So it looks like their only reason for keeping any open is to push their satellite brand. Well, screw that - I ain't buying ;). So I guess what that means is they will probably only keep stores in areas with a lot of foot traffic and maybe specific markets where they feel they can grow the satellite business. That means the store in my little town (pop. 10,000) will probably close for sure - and it has continued to have brisk business all throughout these troubles. When the HWV in the same town shut down they got a big surge in business.

was browsing games at a local blockbuster, and the employee walked up and offered this info "just so you know, in a couple of weeks we will be having the b1g1 free on used games 14.99 and under"

just fyi
