What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I noticed Fallout New Vegas wasn't on the list you posted. Is that still dropping this week? Or was that list only your transfers? I have a hard time keeping up on my phone

.

yes, that is dropping this week. it wasnt on the long list i posted as i just went off of a report we have which doesnt reflect any of the price changes for this coming week yet. so everything on the price drops list that i first posted and the long list that i just posted qualifys for the sale. hope its not too confusing.

How up to date is the list of 14.99 games in the OP? I saw IO's post about the comp and getting to add in hawaiiboys list when able, but what im asking is, was the list up to day with price drops up until the latest hawaiiboy additions?

Doesnt look like too many flipworthy games, but definately a good chance to increase my collection (And backlog of past BBV games i have yet to touch

Brawl - 14.99 (24.00 base TiV at Gamestop)
Mario Party 8 - 14.99 (22.00 base TiV at Gamestop)

Buy both, pay only $14.99+tax

Trade them in at gamestop for roughly $50 if using a PUR card, or $40 if not.

A $25-$35 profit. Very much flipworthy.
Got 4 movies for the wife, and 1 movie for me. I hate the blockbuster cases, but luckily the artwork for the blu rays is just rubber cemented to the insert backing. Need to order 5 of the blu ray cases to replace them eventually.

Noticed that my only local store doesnt have a good selection of games, and the B1G1 sale is going to be crap. The blu ray selection was crap too. Things are going downhill for BBV, but couldnt pass up $4 blu rays.
FYI: Worst Buy sells replacement Blu-Ray cases for about $3 for 5 of them. Although you could order them online for much cheaper, but if you don't wanna wait for them to ship that's an alternative option for you.

Anyway, I was at another out of town BBV yesterday and noticed a title I don't think anyone has mentioned yet for the Blu-Ray sale: Grown Ups.

It was marked $9.99, so it qualified for the sale, but they didn't have anything else worthwhile that I hadn't already seen and passed over a ton of times already.

Moreover, they had stacks of PS3/360/Wii/DS games sitting behind the counter already. They had them seperated by system and all of the titles I remember from the stacks are on Hawaiiboy's big list.

However, most of them were older titles and nothing really newer.

So there's two good flips so far... I noticed Mario Party 8 is also $25 at BB (since they sell Kindle gc's in $25 and $50 values that's perfect!). Brawl is also currently $32 at Amazon. So right there's potentially $57 in Amazon credit. Like others have said, good luck finding those, but if some are brought over as transfers or converts some people could score.

I haven't had time to look for more decent flips yet but hopefully we can get some people posting flips they've found...I know some CAGs like to hoard their lists during this sale.

 If you don't 'hoard your list' then you get what happened during the last GS B2G1, where people flooded BB with copies of Fallout New Vegas and the tiv tanked to $9 in short order.

But I laugh because people still only consider BB/GS for flipping purposes.;)

That is true but it's a bit of a double-edged sword. CAG is built on the foundation of sharing deals and strategies. However, trade-ins/flips can end up being a different beast since we're all contributing to the same pot so to speak. Whereas Target deals are on a store by store basis, as you said, stuff like FO:NV can happen and it's a universal pot that we're driving down.

Still, like any type of deal those who are on top of it should benefit and that's most of us who frequent here. So, on the other hand I don't mind sharing my strategies because I'll usually already have TiV's locked in on Amazon or I'll be heading to BB right away anyway.

I usually only use GS/BB/Amazon simply because between those three I can usually find one who has a better TiV than the others. Plus, they are the most three convenient places to trade in for me.

Right now there's really nothing I want coming out gaming wise, so for me cash is king. I have a few spots(websites included) that give cash for trades versus requiring you to take credit and be stuck to their stores/site with it.

Mind you, it's nice to be able to convert BB cred into AMZ cred, though I wonder how much longer that will go on before they squash that completely.

As for Amazon trading, I don't trust NorAm as far as I can spit due to prior trades that were rejected for whatever bs reason they wanted to give, so it'd be down to BB trading alone for me anymore(as I'm banned from GS).

That's why I'm glad I have the places that offer cash instead of credit.;)
Good luck finding those.
I hope they restock Brawl and Mario Party 8 during the sale, but I also hope they drop in trade in value at GS, so to increase my odds of finding both to play.

Yeah I've had some trades rejected at Amazon for no reason too...conveniently (for them) when I locked in a high TiV and it dropped right after. Although I've had good experiences too. I must have canceled and resubmitted my PSP four or so times before I finally sent it in with a high TiV and they kept it...despite the back cover being chipped and scratched and repaired with painted on spraypaint, heh.

I haven't taken anything into GS for a while though, although their 40% extra coupon they have now could make for a good deal or two.

I saw a few things on the list I would like to pick up. Last time Blockbuster had this sale I think I had 10-11 or maybe a few more stores to choose from between my work and about 5 miles north of my home. I just realized now I only have 6 stores left, which is still a ton of stores and I am lucky, but I enjoyed making a night (or a few nights) of driving to all these stores looking for games...it was fun. Now it will still be fun, but for not as long.

Hawaiiboy. I was just looking at the list. I think Alan Wake was accidentally omitted. The only reason I noticed this was because you pointed out that it dropped about two weeks ago. Please note, I'm not criticizing, just trying to help out - As I have mentioned before Hawaiiboy is awesome.

Pretty sure the list he posted was games that HE KNOWS are being either converted or transferred in just for the sale. I know there's tons of games $15 and under that are missing from the list (unless some raised back up in price) like Bayonetta, Dirt 2, etc etc...

Hopefully they do rental transfers. I haven't rented anything from BB in a long long time so I don't know if they have either of those to rent. If you are just hoping to find one you are pretty much going to be out of luck. Smash Bros. I think has been $14.99 for quite awhile. There aren't going to be any that are just left sitting around for the most part. I go to blockbusters literally every week in a big city and I can't even tell you the last time I saw either of those at a store.

Thanks, JKSonic. I thought it was all the 14.99 and under stuff. That's my mistake.

Re: Alan Wake -- probably just means that his story doesn't have any in-stock, so it's not on his list.

Exactly. We sold our 1 copy.

The big listed I posted is everything my store has in inventory at $14.99 and under which probably 75% came from the big transfer this week.

This might be a silly question, but does the BBV system give you the more expensive one free, if it can -- for example, if I buy two 14.99 games and two 9.99 games, will the system give me a 14.99 and a 9.99 free or just give me both 9.99s free?

It's more likely to give you the two $9.99 ones free, unless the employee totals out the transaction after each set of two games and ONLY if you give them the like priced games at the same time.

Does anyone know if Book of Eli, How to Train your dragon, Toy story or toy story 2 (all blu-ray) qualify for the 5 for $20 sale?

I bought Toy Story marked at $9.99 so the employees let it qualify. It rang up in the system as $12.99, so No it does not unless you can find a mispriced copy. They had to manually adjust.

You need to sepearate them and they need to hit the total button (?) after each 2 they scan.

If they scan 2 $14.99 and 2 $9.99 at once it will give you the two $9.99 games for free. Have them scan the 2 $14.99 and then total it (or whatever button they push). That will take a $14.99 off. Then have them scan two $9.99 ones and it will take one of those off. If you have a stack, organize them and tell them how you want it and what they need to do.

There were a ton of BDs still on sale at my BBV. Almost seemed like no one has bought any. Multiple copies of just about everything listed in this thread.

Also, there were a lot of new games put out for sale, and a huge cart full of them (with price sticker rolls) behind the counter. Looks like the sale will be starting soon :)

Insted of going through all of that, just do two seprate transactions. One for the 14.99 games and one with the 9.99 games, you will get the same result

Mario Kart DS is 24.99... but the store associate I dealt with today informed me that it MIGHT go down to 9.99...?

Either way, I've got some games on hold, though some little bitch has my Galaxy that I was gonna flip... and my Mario Party 8 vanished. lol

Tomorrow will be fun I'm sure.

Yes you will but why would you swipe your debit or credit card more than once if need be? What about if you have 10 games, 2 at $14.99, 6 at $9.99 and 2 at $6.99? 3 different transactions? It really isn't difficult. Just explain what they need to do. Most employees know and will do it for you right away.

Most do, but there also are employees that think you're trying to "game the system" and will argue. Guess it depends on how good your local store is.

Wow such self entitled comments that game is not yours and your arrogance is amazing, don't pollute this cite with your terrible comments no one wants to hear them.

I also did some scouting, and I couldn't find ANY games that were priced $14.99 and under. I'm hoping that they're just getting them ready for the sale tomorrow.

At which point you ask them for 2 separate transactions and watch them do nothing about it. I hate Jr. Detectives.

Or you could start calling the District Manager and watch them quickly change their minds :p. The number is usually behind the counter on a huge poster.

Two stores in my area. A buddy of mine works at one, and is holding a couple games for me.

What are the odds a random employee at another store will hold titles for me? Is that a common practice, or just one of those "you gotta ask" kinda things?

While this sounds like a bitch thing to do... for the employees like that, just choose to buy one 14.99 game and one 9.99 game.. then walk out... and circle back inside to buy the other two. They cannot prevent the sale, and if they attempt to, you can report them for it.

When I used to work there, we would hold titles for people that asked. That was usually 1 or 2 titles max, though. We wouldn't hold 10+ items for people, so don't get too crazy.

Or, rather than the other suggestions, you can just tell them that you need these on two separate receipts because two of the games are for gifts.

Yeah, the employee's here are pretty damn nice too. One of them let me look through the games they hadnt put out on the floor yet, and held like 4 of them for me.

Wish i had a chance to check out the stores today, gonna have to wake up super early tommorow
