What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I picked up Darksiders and Dark Void, but my Darksiders didn't come with a case. Could I try and look for a case at another BBV or do they not allow that?

PS3 or 360? I have a spare Darksiders case laying around here somewhere for PS3.

Went to the Blockbuster who said there wasn't a sale and now they are saying there is one. Many $19.99 games but hardly any $14.99 games.

ps3 Aliens vs. Predator - $14.99
FREE: Guitar Hero Van Halen - $9.99 (XB360)

ps3 MLB 09: The Show - $9.99
Free: Bayonetta - $9.99 (PS3)

They had many "Iron Man 2", "Avatar", "Darksiders" and "Bioshock 2". They actually had more 360 games than the other stores but went through each disc of games I wanted and they were badly scratched.

:ds: Lego Harry Potter years 1-4
:ps3: Dragon Age Origins

Only WKC was without the manual.
It's like Christmas came early!

That is awesome, I always wondered how that was done. How do we do that cool "Shaq-Fu"

:shaqfu:
:shaq-fu:

2 things. (One is important and the other one is meh, but worth mentioning).

1. If a game is mispriced lower ($9.99) instead of $19.99 and you ask for a price adjustment....you MUST make sure the B1G1 promotion is working before paying.
I found a mispriced
iconps3.gif
UFC 2010 marked as $9.99 and it rang up as $19.99 so I asked the cashier if they would honor the price (price adjustment). So she credited the game $10.00. I was pairing this with a
iconps3.gif
Bayonetta ($9.99). And the total came out as $19.99 plus tax....I mentioned the B1G1 promote and she told me that the UFC doesn't qualify for the promote because the computer doesn't see it as a under $14.99 game.....long story short....she credited another $10.00 and I walked out with both games for $9.98 plus tax.:bouncy:

2. It's about the DLC and other codes. The UFC code wasn't used and I logged online and played a few fights.:bouncy:
So it's worth asking an employee if they have an extra manual/code if the one you got was used.

It's easier to just type an f-bomb to get that one to come up. fuck.;)

I got

:360:
IronMan 2 14.99
Dante's Inferno 14.99

and

:360:
Avatar 9.99
:ds:
Spongebob Truth or Square 9.99
Wow, that is fucking awesome.

fuck fuck fuck...
Awesome. Fyi I just scored a beatles rock band se with the stand and bass for $40 at blockbuster. I also saw the value bundle same price but with the reg guitar. 2 diff locations

picked up
bayonetta (ps3)
darksiders (ps3)

but wtf is wrong with the bbv employee at the store I went to, the games were in the black cases and when I brought them up to the register he actually brought out the clear ps3 cases and just fcuking shoved the covers in the clear case and was about to bend the covers when I told him to watch the f out then he gives me a attitude lol

I picked up Two crackdowns (one for me and one for my buddy for christmas) which I was excitied because One actually had a code for the Avatar prop! I was like, Wow...Sweet. Also got Darksiders and Bayonetta.
Beware this is now on SD.
They prolly just steal deals from here. SD- stolen deals.

Might grab Splinter Cell and Bioshock 2. Would have to return the CE edtion to Gamestop though. mmm.

Got a few things but nothing much interesting this time around.

Darksiders + Splinter Cell for $15 each

Quantum of Solace PS2 - $10
Rabbids Go Home DS - $10
Operation Flashpoint 360 - $10
Dead Space Extraction Wii - $10

I think i'm done, only went to two stores but not seeing anything else.

I feel sorry for people buying Dante's Inferno. What a peice of crap. Not worth any price or time spent on it.

It's worth $11 to Amazon. ;)

I went out after work last night and hit two BBVs in different towns. Both of them had signage and endcaps set up with the deal as well as dump-bins.

First store was here in the "city" and while it had a decent selection almost everything I picked up looked like someone's dog had been chewing on it, and the guy at the counter didn't seem interested in letting me look through other copies of the same disc. So ultimately I just ended up with

360 - Call of Juarez - BiB
Wii - No More Heroes 2

Then I went to another store that is out in a small town and got a lot of what I wanted. They had some items priced incorrectly but the guy was very cool about it and checked anything I brought him. When it came time to buy he brought all the discs and let me choose which one I wanted. Great customer service.

360 - Army of 2: 40th day
360 - Bayonetta
360 - Crackdown 2
360 - Bioshock 2

Best part is that everything worked when I got home. I actually "install" games to the 360 to test to make sure the full disc is readable, then delete them until I'm ready to play through them. I'd hate to get so far and get a disc read error several weeks from now when I finally get around to playing them. I may go out to another store tonight but I doubt I'd find what I'm looking for. There seems to be a ton of Bioshock 2, Lost Planet 2, and Splinter Cell at every store, though. I considered LP2 but I've read the Single Player is awful and that's all I'd play.

I feel sorry for people buying Dante's Inferno. What a peice of crap. Not worth any price or time spent on it.
I found Dante very enjoyable, its one of the best GOW clones out there. What was it you didnt like?

You may not enjoy Darksiders then, since it's kind of in the same vein. Think God of War mixed with Legend of Zelda. More Zelda though, which isnt bad, but sometimes it feels like a major rip off of it.

Dante was just awfully bland, very immature gory teenager notebook scrawl type art style.

I guess I found the christian imagery they used to be laughably off-base and satirical instead of super VISCERAL and BRUTAL like they wanted.

Also the combat was kinda dull. Did like that it ran at 60fps. That was about the only redeeming factor.

I admit i didn't get far. I gave up when I died laughing that he shoots crosses at enemies to defeat them.

Shoots crosses.

Then I would guess you aren't a Castlevania fan, either.

Based on the selection mentioned so far, I decided not to check out the different stores within a few miles. Luckily, I found Army of Two: The 40th Day and Crackdown 2 for $14.99 at the nearest one. All other titles were out of the price range.

Darksiders is my third favorite game of all time. I have the xbox 360 version and bought the ps3 version for the hell of it. Just like everyone says, its a a Zelda/god of war mix. I played the hell out of it for about two weeks and have gone through the game two more times. I dont know, but that game is awesome!

The Legend of God

I got lucky and found a Dirt 2 today plus a DragonBall Tenkaichi for the Wii. Lowest on Amazon was $40 some dollars. There was nothing else to pick up so I figured I would just sell that thing to get some money back. I don't even know what the hell it is.

Thanks CAG!

360:
POP Forgotten Sands
Darksiders
Lost Planet 2
Dragon Rising Flashpoint
Bioshock 2
Crackdown 2 (even has the free heli code)
Dantes Inferno
Army of 2

DS:
Kingdom Hearts
Zelda Spirit Tracks

all for about $73--Xmas done!:bouncy:

I've been playing Dante's inferno, its been interesting so far. My only issue with the game is the graphics.. I like the story, the different enemy types, etc. but the execution of the graphics isn't that great. God of war and Dante's inferno uses some of the same settings to tell their stories, so its funny to see how much nicer GOW vision and scene set up is versus Dante's scene set up.

Darksiders is an awesome game that didn't get enough recognition. And I did the same as you and picked it up again on another system. Only I grabbed the 360 version as I had bought it on the PS3 during the TRU sale early in the year.

By the way, checked a couple of more stores and the selection sucked; mostly PS2 games. Stores were probably pillaged yesterday. Guess people were going stir crazy waiting for a B1G1;)

Doubt it. Most stores had no signs nor did the employees have any clue yesterday. The B1G1 Sales just aren't going to be like they were before. I don't recall when it was but when the $6.99 no case games were well stocked and the B1G1 sale started, that was about as good as it can possibly get.

Is it just me or does there not seem to be as big as a variety of games as previous sales. It might just be all of the copies of Bioshock 2 out there, but I am not that impressed with the selection this time around, but still can't beat the sale.

agreed, I checked my stores and the amount of titles is 1/2 that of the last sale. Except for Bioshock 2 and Army of two 40th day there is only a smattering of titles.

According to the one BBV employee yesterday corporate had them ship out a bunch of games to 'Blockbuster lite' stores(aka Gamerush he probably meant), as he said those stores only sell used games and don't rent them.

Then again I've also heard that a liquidator bought a shitload of stock a while ago.

I don't know which thing to believe, but either way I remember being there when they were packing up a shitton of games to ship out for whatever reason soon after the last BOGO.

So that explains the lack of Toy Story Manias and other overly abundant games from the last BOGO.

Maybe Hawaiiboy can shed some light on what happened to the selection since last time, since I'm a bit sick of a conjecture as to what happened.

It sucks that some of the older titles are not around any more because there was always that one game you could not find in one sale, but than it would show up in a future sale. I went to seven stores so far and until the next price drop I am done and even than It will probably only be 2 or 3 stores to hit up.

Yeah, just judging from people's posts, it looks like the same 10-12 games over and over again. I guess since nobody is trading in anymore, its basically just the same lot of converted rentals at every store.

Picked up two more games today and I'm done with this one it looks like since someone came in to my BBV that I usually find a good selection (Littleton, CO off of Broadway) and the manager who knows me said a guy came in yesterday and bought like 20 or so games all good titles so I'm glad I snagged the last copies of :ps3: Wet and :ps3: Darksiders
