What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
I feel sorry for people buying Dante's Inferno. What a peice of crap. Not worth any price or time spent on it.
I disagree. It is not one of my all time favorite games, and it borrows heavily from God of War..but I still had fun with it. For this cheap of a price, I feel it is worth what people are paying for it.

Finally got by my BBV tonight (GooseCreek, SC) - snagged the last :360: Crackdown 2 for $14.99. Also got :360: Dante's Inferno ($14.99 free - really wanted this for PS3 - oh well), :360: PoP:TFS (9.99), :Wii: PoP:TFS (9.99 free - a xmas gift), :pS3: Bayonetta (9.99), and :pS3: Darksiders (9.99 free) . Not bad for $35+tax. They had an Army of Two:TFD, Splinter Cell Conviction, and a TON of Bioshock 2, but already had those titles.

I like the dude who laughs cause Dante shoots crosses from his hand. Made me LOL. I hate how Rico can attach him self to planes and Helicopters! I mean REALLY?! :p

I did enough of giving BBV and GF money this week. Now I have to wait for next week and go check out a few more BBV's by my wifes work place.

Only crap, these are some nice prices! However, even I'm blind, or my local Blockbuster doesn't sell pre-owned games anymore. I sure never see any. They have a small area for pre-owned movies, but that's it.

Went back for a third run and picked up:

X-Men Origins Wolverine: Uncaged Edition (PS3) - $14.99
FREE: Bioshock 2 PS3 for a Christmas present for a friend

Unfortunately, I took a risk with Wolverine as it had a small scratch but it wouldn't get past the startup screen. So, off to BB to return it.

Spent the last hour or so checking the discs.... so far 7 out of 8 are good.

Tried a few BB in the area, saw the usual suspects everyone else has already mentioned. I was really interested in DS games but there was next to nothing.
Anyone know how long this BOGO will last??

I was told just through the weekend, maybe 'til next Mon/Tues
Jan. 3. My local BBV manager said it, and more importantly hawaiiboy has said it.

Hmm my Wolverine would not load either, only a small scratch too.

Everything else works.

It's more about how shooting crosses from your hands clashes with the attempted serious tone of the game.

Just Cause 2 never attempts to be serious about anything happening in that game.

I went back to BB to take back X-Men: Origins Wolverine...and they played it on their older PS3 system just fine. It doesn't make sense...took it back home to play on my PS3 slim and still won't load....

Anyone else having this same problem with this game on a PS3 slim?

According to the one BBV employee yesterday corporate had them ship out a bunch of games to 'Blockbuster lite' stores(aka Gamerush he probably meant), as he said those stores only sell used games and don't rent them.

Then again I've also heard that a liquidator bought a shitload of stock a while ago.

I don't know which thing to believe, but either way I remember being there when they were packing up a shitton of games to ship out for whatever reason soon after the last BOGO.

So that explains the lack of Toy Story Manias and other overly abundant games from the last BOGO

back even before the last b1g1 i believe and when bbv was trying to stave off bankruptcy they sold maybe 80% of their games to a third party (no clue but its buried in one of the older threads). thats why everyone is seeing the same games as they are just converted rentals. hopefully with at least 2 more price drops before the sale ends we'll see a few more good titles as quite a few are sitting at the $19.99 price point.

are there still gamerush stores out there? i havent seen one in years.

I was also told the same story about liquidator buying up all the used games (during the prev sale)... but luckily they've restocked a lot since then.

Thanks hawaiiboy for all of your contributions. What are some of the notable games sitting at $19.99? I picked up Splinter Cell and :360: Bayonetta, but might skip other eligible games now in favor of those that might drop later.

Yep I think I had posted in this thread already about but it happened at a store near me. The third party bought them like .80 to the $1. They've gotten more games tho last time I checked, guess those are converted rentals or from other places.
The store I go to has a GameRush section, but there is never anyone behind the counter.

At 19.99 I've seen lots of GoWIII, few Borderlands, Uncharted 2, some other good ones.

I wonder, sometimes, if the 'sold to a third party' was ever really true. I mean, it's clear that the games disappeared, but I wonder if those games didnt just become the fodder for the Blockbuster Online w/ games program. Otherwise, where did all the games for BBv via mail come from?

On a sadder note, while I found the games I was looking for (mainly Dante's and Bayonetta), I found out that my favorite BBv, and the only one that consistently had prepacks, is no more. I like the people that worked there too. Especially this one slightly-too-old-to-still-be-emo/goth-chick. The manager was real nice too. Would let me go through the prepacks while they were still in the shipment box.

*pours out a little liquor*

Hit three other bbv and purchased
All PS3

Closest store to me where i also bought my first 2 bogo sale
Bayonetta
Fifa 08

Down the street from my job i picked up.
Dirt 2
Aliens vs Predator

Hit a total of 4 different blockbuster video's and picked up 6 games hehe

One blockbuster had nothing much of anything left, the employee told me the first day of the sale a guy bought out everything spent like $600 lol

I'm really hoping for some price drops. I hit 4 of the 5 stores I ever go to on the first day and don't really see a reason to go back unless I'm looking for something in particular that drops.
A manager from bbv said it will go until Jan 1st
Come on man. Post #605. It's not that far back.

Since I only have a :360: and a :wii: I primarily looked at those, but did eye the lone DA:O for :ps3: Just funny how WKC, DA:O, and some others are now on clearance at Target, making it hard to choose from this sale or that.
Anyways saw tons of Bioshock 2, also :AOT:40th day, LP2, SP:C, DI, DS. Only got bayonetta :360: and Marvel Super hero squad :wii: for my son (x-mas present).
There were about 2 rows of BS2 with 4 deep, did they just stock too many?
So if I did go back which 2 should I get? Lost Planet 2, Splinter Cell:conviction, or Army of 2: 40th day. None of them really blew me away but price is right.
Hoping for a price drop too, as they did have some JC2, SM:SD, and I forget what else. Oh and how is Risen? Saw 2 of those.
There were about 2 rows of BS2 with 4 deep, did they just stock too many?
Most likely those were converted rentals. Most stores are like that.
So if I did go back which 2 should I get? Lost Planet 2, Splinter Cell:conviction, or Army of 2: 40th day. None of them really blew me away but price is right.
I have not played LP2 yet, but from what I hear it's not nearly as good single player as mp. Although the same can probably be said about Ao2tFD. But no matter which of those 2 you choose, definitely get SC:C. Really really solid title. And I am just going off the sp. If you are going to play mp or co-op, you'll get even more out of it.

got WET and Baynoetta. They had the case for Risen but no disc, so I tried to get Battlefield 2 LE it was 19.99 but they wouldn't let me, oh well.

I already did, but it got another thumbs up which negated my thumbs down.
back even before the last b1g1 i believe and when bbv was trying to stave off bankruptcy they sold maybe 80% of their games to a third party (no clue but its buried in one of the older threads). thats why everyone is seeing the same games as they are just converted rentals. hopefully with at least 2 more price drops before the sale ends we'll see a few more good titles as quite a few are sitting at the $19.99 price point.

are there still gamerush stores out there? i havent seen one in years.
That's what I thought supposedly happened. It's a shame really, since there were some decent titles that would've likely been even cheaper by now that could've stretched my credit dollars further than six games.

How much is Dirt 2, 9.99 or 14.99? I been having itch for racing games lately. :)

Got Bayonetta, Dante's Inferno, Bioshock 2 and Army of Two 40th Day. They are all complete and suprisingly the discs are in good shape. I was tempted to get Wet but it was disc onlly and GH Metallica was missing the manual.
I saw plenty of other qualifying titles for the 360 including Lost Planet 2, Blood Bowl, Crackdown 2, Risen, Fallout 3, SC Conviction, Darksiders, MX v ATV Reflex, Wolfenstein, Damnation. I was also suprised to see a lot of PS2 titles.
Now I'll probably wait to see if there any good price drops.

Thanks hawaiiboy!

Tested all 4 of the games I bought today and they all work! There are some steals, obviously, for the price this time around, but I really think Risen is a hidden gem. Finally hit a price point I was willing to gamble on and I'm really enjoying it so far.

I know it's 9.99 for PS3. I picked up a copy. Great game, tons of fun, too, if you have a driving wheel.

I know they're all previous rentals, but I mean its just did they really expect to need that many? Movies I can understand overstocking rentals but games?

I'm mostly into sp games right now, still havent made the jump to mp. Its just getting harder to find a sp game as I did see LP2 and Ao2 both made a big push on co-op or mp. I need to see if that other bbv still has wolverine.

As for this being a brag fest...its like this ever bogo, shit remember when movie gallery/ hollywood video had their sales?

Dante's inferno isn't the greatest game in the world but it certainly isn't a piece of crap.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Some of you people are making it seem like it's X-Blades.

Hey now. X-Blades was a fun game, though only for the jiggle factor.;) I completely hated the lead characters 'valley girl' attitude. It was well worth the $5 I paid at Kmart for it for the prior reason mentioned above though.:bouncy:

What I find funniest is that no one is reporting finding Fairytale Fights used, since it should be cheap enough by now to qualify. Although I think the copies I traded into my closest BBV were going to be converted into rental copies, so maybe they're still being rented in other stores that got them in when BB had that coupon fiasco?

the 3 or 4 games that I'd like the most are still at $19.99 hovering just outside of the b1G1 range (for ps3)

:ps3: Batman Arkham Asylum (seriously why is this one still $19.99)
:ps3: God of War III
:ps3: Dantes Inferno
:ps3: Lost Planet 2

i saw it used. Pretty sure it was in with the B1G1 stuff but I honestly didn't stop to check the price.

As others have mentioned, it's sad to see the number of stores dwindle with every B1G1 sale. Didn't realize one of my favorite stores was closing until I pulled into the lot this week. That's now five stores closed within a half hour of me in the past 18 months or so.

Glad I canceled my lightning deal on Splinter Cell on amazon. $7.50 sounds better. Plus return the $32 Bioshock 2 CE and keep the $7.50 version.

I agree. I would have preferred to get Dante's Inferno for the :ps3: just because my :ps3: is newer and I'd like to add more games to my collection, but I couldn't pass getting a copy at my local store of it for my :360:. Here's hoping GoW3 drops before the deal ends. That would be epic.

Well, during my search of games yesterday, I went to a Blockbuster that had the game I want but was on hold for an employee. That is quite fine, I thought. But today, had a store nearby searching for that game and it still shows that store had it. I mean come on, at least pick it up.

The Wii and 360 discs I picked up are scratched though. Does Blockbuster offer disc buffing service?

Got FIFA'10 and Bioshock 2. I was about to purchase FIFA'09 for 10$ then the guy at the counter told me it was BUY ONE GET ONE FREE! YAY!

Saw Darksiders, but I didn't like the demo at all.

Now if only I can find Dragon Age Origins...

Ended up with most of the good titles noted (WKC, Zelda, DA:O, Scribblenauts, Lego HP DS, Bayonetta PS3, Mario and Sonic Winter Games, BS2) but the gem I found was SSBB. Had a rental case and no artwork originally but after talking with the manager a bit, she remembered that she had the artwork and manual and found an extra white case. $26 TIV to Amazon!

Kept a few of the B titles, Spongebob Truth or Square ($15) and Lego Rock Band ($10), both for Wii.

Lots of games are $19.99 ATM hopefully a few will drop to $15 during this sale.

Talking to one of the employees tonight she mentioned that they get a pull list on Saturday. Then during the day or that night they pull the games to be put out for sale on Sunday morning.

So any idea if these games on the pull list are the same games we've seen, or will they be different selection? I suppose this is just typical behavior for the stores and the buy one get one just happens to be running at the same time.

Snagged a Mario and Sonic at Winter Olympic Games to flip later on and Dante's Inferno for the 360. I was hoping for Dragon Age and White Knight Chronicles, but they didn't have any. I might check out a few more blockbusters cause I would love to get both of those games for about $8.

I told myself that I should ignore this thread, but now I just regret not getting in on the sale from day 1. My BBV is probably picked clean by now.
