What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

never have I seen so many bioshock 2 and splinter cell convictions...they had tons of god of war 3's but this is not 14.99 of course

Picked up Crackdown 2, Bioshock 2, Lost Planet 2, and Darksiders not bad for a little over $30. Ill be very willing to head back to pick up GOW collection, GowIII, BCII, ACII if they drop in price. I swear this sale is going to end up getting me like every sequel to finish my collections.

The good news is, Blood Bowl works. The bad news is, despite my having an interest in football, dark fantasy, and the occasional table top dice-rolling game, the combination of the three appears to be completely lost on me. Oh well.

So any idea if these games on the pull list are the same games we've seen, or will they be different selection? I suppose this is just typical behavior for the stores and the buy one get one just happens to be running at the same time.

its a different selection every week. so we'll probably see a few of the usual's but there could be some random stuff that doesnt rent anymore that will get transferred. game transfers happen every sunday. our store does an average of 20-25 transfers a week.

that was always the same when i worked at hwv... i was usually good about doing pulls as early in the day as possible, but i bet sometimes it doesn't get done till later.

...i'll be checking back to see if any of those $19.99 games drop down because I saw a couple I'd like. :)

Went in for another round last night since I sold most of the ones I picked up already. I guess no one really knows about the sale in my area :booty:cuz its still pretty stocked, anyways on a trip to 3 stores I picked up

iconps3.gif

Street Fighter IV 14.99
White Knight Chronicles 14.99
Wolfenstein 14.99
Madden 10 14.99
AVP 14.99
Army Of Two 40th Day 14.99
Guitar Hero Smash Hits 14.99
G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra 14.99

iconwii.gif

Drawn To Life 9.99
Astroboy 9.99
Marvel Superhero Squad 14.99
Spongebob Truth Or Square 14.99

All complete and in pretty good condition. At all 3 stores to my astonishment I was also offered the coveted bag at checkout which I politefully declined... the deals were sweet enough as it is.

That's why I almost always watch a shitton of YouTube gameplay videos and/or read tons of reviews before biting on any game anymore, since I don't wanna end up with a repeat of State Of Emergency.:puke:

bloodbowl is good. but its not meant for everyone. you really need to have played the tabletop. there is really steep learning curve.

fair disclosure - i played way too games in the beta.

IATCG - state of emergency just plain sucked. and you probably didnt pay full price for it either.
IATCG - state of emergency just plain sucked. and you probably didnt pay full price for it either.
Actually I did. That was in the days BC(before CAG) for me and I fell for the fact that it was soon after GTAIII and being released by the same company so I decided to grab it. HUGE mistake.

But since then I've only regretted maybe 2-3 games and of those I think I only lost money on ONE selling it back to X or Y store.;)
I wonder, sometimes, if the 'sold to a third party' was ever really true. I mean, it's clear that the games disappeared, but I wonder if those games didnt just become the fodder for the Blockbuster Online w/ games program. Otherwise, where did all the games for BBv via mail come from?

On a sadder note, while I found the games I was looking for (mainly Dante's and Bayonetta), I found out that my favorite BBv, and the only one that consistently had prepacks, is no more. I like the people that worked there too. Especially this one slightly-too-old-to-still-be-emo/goth-chick. The manager was real nice too. Would let me go through the prepacks while they were still in the shipment box.

*pours out a little liquor*
I think they sold them to the third party that was liquidating the stores that they sold out....instead of selling off the old stuff by themselves they sold the old stores merchandise to a 3rd party and let them sell out of the old stores. they moved alot of games and movies into my local store after the 3 rd party took over that may be where your games went.
What is "the coveted bag"
A plastic bag to carry the games out in, of course. Mind you, I got one of those coveted bags the other day when I picked up some games from the sale and mine didn't have the all important Blockbuster logo on it.

FYI, According to the Gamestop sale thread, Power Up reward members (Pro?) can start getting in on the B2G1F deal TODAY at 1PM! Let the perfect storm begin. Just not for me as I have no credit or cash, but you guys enjoy!

All right, so give or take the year 3 BC for you since you joined in '05? Those were certainly dark days indeed my friend. So, much money wasted on buying games at MSRP.

What is the coveted bag? edit: NVM I just saw the question answered.

If they would price match the TIV from SecondSpin I'd gladly trade in the games I'm sending out to that company(and as such save myself shipping charges), but as it stands I'm like you and I have no credit(have cash but don't wanna spend it)to spend on the B2G1.

But soon after those dark days I learned that Kmart had a semi regular schedule for clearancing games and other items and I kept an eye on that diligently.;) It wasn't until after I joined CAG, however, that I realized how many games/items I'd probably MISSED over the years of checking Kmart clearance.
Lots of games are $19.99 ATM hopefully a few will drop to $15 during this sale.

:360:
Batman Arkham Asylum
One of the Blockbusters near work had 1 copy of Batman (360) in the BOGO bin. It had a $14.99 sticker on it. Didn't buy it because I already have it. Still, you'd think the price would be the same at all stores. Did you find a copy and have them scan it?

I didn't realize Kmart still existed until this site. The one in my hometown closed back in 96' and I had not been in one until I discovered CAG.

Man, I hope UC 2,and GOW 3 drop to 14.99 before this sale ends.

Has anyone seen Yakuza 3 in the "bin" yet?

How did people get Dante's Inferno PS3 for this deal? I specifically asked the woman behind the counter to check and sure enough it was a $19.99.

The same thing happen to me. The lady who rang me up was as cranky as ever on top of that. She was giving me a hard time already since I asked her to price check WKC and I was right.

Dante's Inferno is still $19.99 on the PS3. Hopefully it'll drop this coming week.

Sorry if this is off topic, but how many copies of the same game for the same system can you trade to Blockbuster?

its supposed to be 2 but you'll get mgrs that only allow 1 so best thing to do is just take em both in and say your brother or something has a copy too.

That depends on the manager/cashier really. If you space them out via 2-3 stores you could easily trade in 2-4(or whatever max amount they allow per store) per store and really rack up the credit.:D;)

Woohoo! Went to another one and scored SP: Conviction and Bayonetta! So I got (360) Bayonetta, Conviction, Bioshock 2 and Dirt 2...not bad.

:360:
Darkness - FREE
TigerWoods 08 - $9.99

Halo 3 - $14.99
Splinter Cell - FREE

This was a restock, this store didn't have these on Tuesday.

DS selection is awful. How is UP for the :ds:?

Much better luck this time than the last BOGO sale... Ive picked up about 20 games so far, still looking for a few like Band Hero for 360 but am very happy so far

The last sale had nothing in it at any of the stores I went to

SO...to everybody who has taken advantage of this so far...

With the GS 50% trade bonus coming up, how many of you guys are taking a serious look at your backlogs and making decisions on which games to dump off?

I know I am. My backlog has ballooned over the past couple months to unreasonable levels.

Picked up...
Army of Two 40th Day PS3
Wolfenstein Xbox 360 (free)

for a friend...
Dirt 2 PS3 $10
Darksiders PS3 (free)

I had no idea Crackdown 2 was $14.99! A store I haven't checked used to have a copy, so I'll swing by tonight in hopes they still have it.
I originally picked up White Knight Chronicles, but then I read that the sequel also contains the first game on the disc so I returned it. It was pretty fun from what I've played.

Considering they are currently offering 40% (50%) with Edge, and they run this often, I don't see a reason to mass-dump games unless you're in need of extra credit.

The promo next week will only add an additional 10% -- 50 cents for a $5 game... would be another story if I had a bunch of new releases stockpiled (Ok, I do, but I want to play them first :).

None, I rather have a huge library. I regret selling my Saturn games long ago. :(

Now with that said, I want to get rid of Red Faction Guerilla. I can't see myself ever playing it again, it's not like the original one.

The thing to consider is that TIVs may go down. So for a potential extra 10% by waiting, might be gone if the TIVs dip. That's why I did some flipping yesterday.
Sorry for the noob question but what day do game prices usually drop?
I was just at a store and was told by the manager there:

Monday nights they get a report printed out on what price drops there are.

Understandable, like somebody else sort of said about TiV's though, it comes down to this for me sometimes - If I know I'm not going to get to a game before it's worth essentially nothing then I may end up flipping it. Many times I can flip a game and make money off the flip, then buy it again later for less then I sold it for...ending up with a net gain from the original purchase price.

What I HATE is when I go into GS or send stuff into Amazon with the INTENTION of flipping it and then saving my credit...but actually walking out with another game or two. Then I end up either not playing them anyway or stop playing some games I'm currently working through and in turn rendering them useless.

Sigh, the life of a cheapass...
Hmm....My store has Bourne and Avatar for $9.99 for the PS3 left. Are both games worth the $9.99?
I've only played a little of Bourne, it seemed okay. Avatar got mediocre reviews, but it doesn't look terrible. For $5 a piece, they're probably worth it.

Yeah, I had to rush out at the very end of the last B1G1 to get Avatar for $14.99 ($7.50 after B1G1) when it dropped from $19.99 since my son wanted it really badly. I never played it but he enjoyed it for a while. At $5 I would definitely get it.

I hit a different store at lunch today and picked up 4 more games for $20 plus tax

:360:
Hawx - 9.99
Stuntman Ignition - 6.99

:ps3:
Lego Rock Band - 9.99
MX vs ATV Reflex - 9.99

So far my total is $45 plus tax and 8 games. This rocks!

It's a never ending cycle unfortunately. But as long as you know what's worth more than you paid after promo/Powerup and what's only good as filler to bump up to the right tier on tiered trade promos, then you're golden.;)

In my opinion Bourne and The Club are 2 of the most underrated games of this generation. $5 for Bourne is a steal (though so is $9.99 in my opinion).

I completely forgot I even have The Club in my backlog. It's around here someplace. I should try playing it again, as I played it for a couple of levels and then stopped and never came back to it yet.

I actually have 5 copies of The Club, all for PC. The first I bought on clearance at target for myself, and the rest when they dropped to $5 at GS and included a free month of Live.
