What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
what are the likelihood of ps3 games from BBV not working?
Very rare. Unless the game has been resurfaced(which makes it worse than a normal CD for taking on new scratches from just trying to brush a piece of dust off the disc) a light scratch or two should not affect it at all.

Just picked up :360: Darksiders ($14.99), Risen ($9.99), PoP:Forgotten Sands ($9.99) and Mass Effect 2 ($9.99). Total cost, $26ish.

Made them find me a manual for ME2, since it had the Cerberus code on it. They indicated if the code didn't work, I'd be able to return it.

Risen has a pretty good resell value on Amazon, but I want to play it, so it'll stay in the library.
Hmm....My store has Bourne and Avatar for $9.99 for the PS3 left. Are both games worth the $9.99?
Both games are meh. I haven't finished Avatar. Bourne had awesome presentation/music, but very flawed gameplay. Both games for 10 bucks though is worth it.
what are the likelihood of ps3 games from BBV not working?
X-Men Origins didn't work on my PS3 slim but it worked on their first gen PS3 fat. The rule of thumb is look at your disc and while PS3 games are not as easy to scratch compared to DVD discs, they do happen. Also, you do get a 30-day warranty for the games you bought.

2nd trip to different store that had like 60+ games, I was surprised told a few friends to go, but tempting to go back and see what I could flip.

crackdown2
AVP
POP
Risen
Legendary
Operation Flashpoint

$35 OTD.

Just my opinion, but i thought the Club was horrible. There's a reason you can buy it for like $1-$5 now.

Bourne is slightly better, but still pretty crappy. Played it for two hours and got rid of it.
In my opinion Bourne and The Club are 2 of the most underrated games of this generation. $5 for Bourne is a steal (though so is $9.99 in my opinion).
Where can I buy it for a dollar?
The manual does not have a Cerberus code on it. It is a separate card.
Damnation. Looks like it is going back then. Wish they'd had another game that interested me in their used selection. Guess I'll take that and one of the other titles back. Buggerit...PoP is for my wife, and I want both Risen and Darksiders....

Try ebay for starters. Half.com has it for around $1 for the PC version. I've seen the PC version on GoGamer.com for around $1 or $2 during their 48 hour sales.

Went to 4 Blockbusters on 2 different days with no intention of flipping

Tuesday, 12/07

Battlefield Bad Company 2 - $15
Bioshock 2 - free

Darksiders - $15
Bayonetta - free

Wednesday, 12/08

Mass Effect 2 -$10
Prince of Persia TFS - Free

Crackdown 2 - $15
Splinter Cell Conviction - free

- lucky bastard

I think Hawaii Boy mentioned this last week, but I thought it was worth pointing out that the BBV TIV for :360: Rainbow Six Vegas (the first one) is $4. Even flip from GS, or better with B2G1, etc. Small potatoes, but maybe worth combining a copy of R6V along with a copy of FME.

Picked up Crackdown 2 and got Zelda Spirit Tracks for free. I was told the sale runs until 1/3 so there's bound to be more drops by then.
I'm really hoping Singularity drops as I want to try it out. I'd also like to find the cover art and manual for my copy of Wolfenstein for 360.

My store only had a small bin of games. :(
Dante's Inferno was the only game I didn't have that I semi-wanted.
Half the bin was Bioshock 2. lol. I already have it on 360 and PC though. :/

I finally found a Dragon Age Origins (PS3). It still had 2 dlc cards inside, feral wolf charm/memory band and blood dragon armor/fury of shale but it looks like they're expired now.

I also found a Fire Emblem (Wii) marked at $14.99 but they couldn't find the disc in the game drawer. Grrrr!

Decided to head over to bbv and picked up Bayonetta, Darksiders, Bioshock 2, and Dante's Inferno for $32.64.

Did you try the dlc, or are you assuming they are expired because of the expiration date? I just bought Dragon Age: Origins for the PS3 on clearance at Target and it had the Fury of Shale/Blood Dragon Armor code inside that said it expired in April 2010. I entered the codes in the game menu anyway and they both worked. So as long as no one already redeemed the codes, you should be good to go.

Went to my local store today and nothing really. Just a bunch of Bioshocks, Dante's Inferno, and Iron Man 2's.

Really wanted Risen but it was gone as was the 20 copies of Mass Effect that were there a few days ago.
I was reading back some pages and I saw it mentioned that FXIII PS3 is $14.99 - can anyone confirm or deny?
nooooooooooooooo, I believe it is still $24.99

Went to a GS and used my last credit there ($13) and 20 in cash to get DS Wonder Pets (Xmas gift I was going to get anyway) and two FMEs. Traded one :pS3: in at one store for $22 and got :360: Bioshock 2 and :360: Marvel UA 2. Traded the other :360: at another store for 22 and got :360: Mass Effect 2 and :360: PoP FS. So, 20 in cash out, four games for me and one for a gift in plus about 17 in credit left with the hopes of drops on Assassin's Creed 2 or either of the GoWs, etc.

There was an employee at the store who had told me they kept the DLC cards for games and they would give them with the games when they sold them, but noone there knew about it the last few times I checked. They were gone from where they were before. Luckily out of the three games that were left, one had a cerberus card in it. Tried it out and it was unused! I think that after that one guy realized ME2 had been converted to sale and they had the codes he put them in the boxes. They had a ton of games and cards when it dropped to 10, too.

Has anyone seen Halo ODST in BBVs? I ask cause they were a ton around a while back and now there are NONE at any store I checked which is weird. Can't imagine it sold that well at EVERY store at 19.99. Pretty sure that was mass converted after the game purge. Right?

Another game to add to the list on page 1:

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (14.99)..

Is DS Mario & Luigi Bowser's inside story $14.99 (or less)?

I saw a copy marked 19.99 at a store that had a lot of old, outdated price stickers.

Pretty sure that 19.99 is still active. My store w/ updated prices had it tagged for that as well. That store must have just converted it and they never re-tag it

I saw it at a couple of stores that were otherwise correct on all the games I was sure of the pricing on and it was marked $29.99 at both stores. I would love to get that because my son is into Halo now and it is the only one we don't have. The $29.99 could very well have been a mistake (but at 2 different stores?) so I'll be keeping an eye on it. Hawaiiboy - could you confirm the price please?

As for Mass Effect 2, I probably saw at least 10 across the several stores I've been to. Not one had the Cerberus card in them. Beware, though, that any card which shows the code without needing to have a tab removed or something scratched off could very well have been used (I forget if Cerberus is this way or not, but I know the DAO ones are). When I rented a game for the first time in ages a few weeks ago (using a Coke Rewards free rental) they actually gave me the regular retail case with all the inserts to take it home in. This must be a new thing, and maybe just at my local store, but I thought it was odd. It doesn't bode well for the future completeness of their rental conversion stock.
Is DS Mario & Luigi Bowser's inside story $14.99 (or less)?

I saw a copy marked 19.99 at a store that had a lot of old, outdated price stickers.
Yeah, I've seen it priced at $19.99 at a couple of stores too.
is assassin's creed 2 14.99? anyone know?
doesn't look that way. It's not on the list on the first page here and I didn't see any copies of it being sold at my nearby blockbusters Thats one of the games I was hoping would be on sale

Went to another blockbuster today and scored a WKC and Lost Planet 2. I'm gonna go back tomorrow and replace lost planet for splinter cell conviction cause so far it's a pretty boring game. Hopefully L4D2 drops in price for this sale >

Risen has a pretty good resell value on Amazon, but I want to play it, so it'll stay in the library.
wait, am i missing something? i saw the trade in as 2.50?

and yeah, i saw AC II for 19.99 also. (360)

also, i was able to pick up bayonetta and darksiders today. i was really happy, been wanting to pick up these games for a while now. and its finally hit my price point.

I picked up the same 2 games. looking for dante's inferno for ps3 but only found it for the 360. went to 2 Blockbusters. One had only a small selection which I picked up the two games. another had plenty of ME2 and splinter cell conviction. Had 1 crackdown 2 but don't think i would play it. Will check others nearby.

Also, for the record, the code on the Cerberus card is perfectly visible on the backside of the card.

Confirmed by my newly opened copy. No tab over the numbers.

Is this sale just to draw me in to try and purchase, the "better" games that were priced at 19.99. I like the sale, but I wish that they'd just add some of the 19.99 games to the b1g1 deal. Luckily I got everthing that I wanted...

Bioshock 2 14.99
Aliens vs Predator (Free)

2nd run:
Army of two: 40th day 14.99
White Knight Chronicles (Free)

WKC didn't have its original case, so I asked the clerk if she had an extra "PS3" case and luckily she had one and let me have it. I have a PS3 Case for the game but no artwork. I figure that's better than the blockbuster "ugly" case that it was sold to me with.

I had a wonderful GS experience last night. I went in for a copy of FEM, expecting to be in and out. Nope...that didn't happen. I was first lectured on why I wanted to buy this game when there were so many better games. Then when I got to the counter he decided to help some other customers that just walked in the door. There was another employee behind the counter, but he was too busy putting games in paper envelopes to ring me up. When I finally got some service I was immediately bombarded with the pre-order pitch. He even left the counter to ask someone in the back about the Dead Space 2 deal even though I never showed any interest in the game or the pre-order. After he got my final "No thank you" he started to ring up FEM, but he was sidetracked when he saw that my Power Up was expiring. He tried to get me to renew by telling me that if I did it today I would get a coupon for B2G1 free. No mention that the sale was starting tomorrow. Instead of my expected in and out in 2 minutes, I was in and out in 15 thanks to those fukwits.

This is the same employee who told me a few weeks ago that they had the best deal on Black Ops. That Best Buy was selling it for $65. When I told him about the Kmart deal, he was silent...for once.
