What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Yes, the only new 14.99 title is Kane & Lynch 2

Huh, sucks, thanks though. I saw something about that but didn't see anything about THAT being the price drop. Oh well, thanks again.
How about you not be an asshole? If you took the time to write that comment you could've taken the time to just given me the info or linked me. Instead you want to act like an asshole, on a thread that at the time was 42 pages long with 98% of it (this included) being full of useless unhelpful information such as your post.

I'm sorry you get off to being the smart ass jerk in a video game deal forum where everyone is pretty much trying to help out one another. You must be one miserable loser.
You know there is a search function on CAG and Hawaiiboy is the one to provide the updates on price drops, so why not just search for posts by him?;)
You can trade up to 3 of the same game for one trade-in. I think you could do another separate package for more though.
I believe that just like Best Buy/Deal Tree, Amazon(actually Nor-Am/PieceOfMindMedia who run their trade program) only allows three of a particular title per year per account. Note I said PER ACCOUNT.;)
So is this a company wide adding more inventory to the sale Tuesday or is it their regular Monday mark downs that Hawiiboy has been updating us on?

Any other confirmations?
Sorry I can't confirm whether this is a company wide thing.
I do know that this is different from the mark down that Hawaii has been talking about. So far, what I know is that they're going to widen their inventory of Pre-Owned games by taking games from their Rental Inventory.

I'm not 100% sure that it's a company wide thing. But the guy I talked to said that the BBVs in my area will all be bringing more games to their Pre-Owned inventory by taking games off the Rental shelves.

That's a common practice, kyrhon. They did that last weekend when they pulled the copies of White Knight Chronicles and any other ones that price dropped. They convert them all the time.

Although if it were some decent titles that would instantly qualify for the BOGO I'd be all over that.;)

x) Yeah, I know it's common that they pull down Rental games to go to Pre-Owned, I just wanted to give you guys a heads up that they'll be replenishing their Pre-Owned inventory this coming Tuesday in case anyone missed out on any game that they didn't get to buy cuz it was out.

Hopefully my local BBVs will bring in additional copies of GTA IV Liberty City and Brawl.

there is a transfer from rental to pre-owned every week. number of titles vary but we do 20-25 usually and its stuff that we have excess inventory (ie bioshock 2) or stuff that doesnt rent anymore. i dont know why a store would wait til tuesday to do it but i guess thats their choice. the transfer report and price drops come over in email either late friday night/sat morn. most stores do the transfers on sunday since we technically cant do it til then but i almost always have them out on saturday.

Forgive me for asking, but when do the price drops go into effect? I thought that was Sunday, but then remembered it might have been Monday. I went to a BBV to get K&L 2 tonight and it was still $24.99 (scanned). The guy had no clue if it was dropping or when that would happen or when any prices normally drop .

I know I should know this, but I get confused with all the drop/conversion/email days and frankly, your post above confused me further since it sounds like it should be Friday/Saturday from that...

But then again, I kind of remember a game everyone wanted at the last sale (maybe Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics?) dropping to $14.99 the last week of the sale and only being available for 1 day of the B1G1: Monday. So I guess that means price changes go into effect Monday.

price drops go into effect on Mondays. it used to be sundays a while ago.

we get the report of what to transfer and any price changes friday night/sat morning so we can prepare for the upcoming week.

we have a window from sunday-tuesday to get the rental transfer done. if its not done by tuesday night we can no longer do the transfer as the system will not allow us to.

Yeah, I knew they should at least know about it now. It was great to see the guy Sunday evening be so clueless about it. Well, at least now I know where there are about 10 copies of K&L 2 for 360...

And it's good to know it used to be Sunday - I haven't completely lost it yet. There was some basis for my confusion there ;).

Yeah I some new titles out on the shelf today with the 12/12 date on the barcode sticker thing. (They weren't any exciting games, just more of the usual Bayonetta/Darksiders type stuff)

Darn, I just bought Kane and Lynch 2 at GS yesterday. Maybe they'll let me swap it for something else.

So Kane and Lynch 2 for 360 should ring up $14.99 today (Monday) ? Any other drops today? I read back and I only see Hawaiiboy mention Kane and Lynch.

I have a few questions about the BBV liquidation sales. One of my stores is doing their final markdown today.

What percentage off do the Blu rays get marked down during the final drop?

What percentage off do the DVDs get marked down during the final drop?

How much is everything else marked down?

I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Hawaiiboy,

Can you tell us what are the :ps3: and :360: games this week out of those 25 games that were on that email list you had received for the transfer? Thanks.

From my own personal experience with the liquidation sales if it's the last couple of days the percentage may finally bump up to beyond 50-60% for most everything.

But if you really want the best discount(though probably the least amount of selection unless you're there right when they do this markdown) wait till the final day of business as everything is $1 then typically.:D

Of course, by then you're only likely to find movies with C and D list 'stars'(aka people you've never heard of and likely never will outside of those movies).

At the location near me that went under this year, they went to $1 dvds the friday before they closed forever on sunday. There was a lot of good items available, I took and looked up trade in values for secondspin.com and picked up enough titles to treat myself to about 30 movies and make a small profit. As far as the blu rays, they were still only 15% off that day and I was told they probably wouldnt go lower, but YMMV... I never got to check back as I was out of state for the weekend

Movie gallery stores were even better this year, I got many titles for .50... blu rays for $2... made a ton in trade ins and sales... good times...

I really expect next year to be the last that we see the B&M stores open... they have all been ghost towns when Ive went to them... pretty sad. I expect the online, by mail, and kiosks to continue to survive though

Either that or some other company will buy up the rights to the Blockbuster name, much like Systemax/TigerDirect did with Circuit City or the company will come back but under another name(Woolworth's discount store chain is Foot Locker).
the TIV for Kane and Lynch 2 went from 50 cents to 75 cents. Quick, lock that shit in!!
Woo hoo. Time to grab all dem shitz.;)

Yeah one of the BBV that closed 6 months ago did it this way and i bought at least 40 movies, figured a buck each you can not go wrong. After that i wished i'd bought more at that price. Then a few months ago another BBV was going out of business so i kept going to the store on my way to work every 2 or 3 days but they never lowered their prices than $3 a dvd so i never bought a thing and was really disappointed. I'm hoping no more BBV close in my area but a year ago there were 10 stores in my area now there's only 5 left but if they do go under at least drop dem shitz to a buck a dvd for your loyal customers instead of giving some liquidator the deals!!

One thing I've noticed from every one of these liquidation sales I've been to in the last couple of years is that the DVD boxsets will have random discs get bought up and then those sets will languish on the shelves till the last day.

Personally, it's a good tactic to keep all but the most diehard fans of X or Y series from buying those sets and assuring that they stick around till the end of the sale. After all, who's going to buy a DVD set that's missing the middle of a season?

Unfortunately by the end of the BBV closing sales here the only shit that was left were some 4-5 year old 360 sports games, caseless DVD's that were scratched to shit and tons of gaming accessories(since none of those were discounted AT ALL).

One thing that truly pissed me off though was the sheer volume of shit being 'held' by employees and their friends and family. The employees I can understand getting first dibs and maybe even holding shit, but fuck that noise about letting your friends and family keep shit locked up till the good percentages off.:bomb::bomb::bomb:

The same shit happened at those $5 game sales at HWV when I would be the first person into the store on the day the sale started. I get in there and see that none of the shit I checked out the night before was on the shelves and there would be a HUGE stack behind the register.
Got WKC and A02: 40th Day.

Both were 14.99 and I'm a happy camper.
What is WKC? And what is FME? I'm not getting what a couple of these acronyms stand for even though I'm being a good cag and reading previous pages in this thread.

White Knight Chronicles and Front Mission Evolved. The latter a franchise destroyed from it's turn based RPG roots. Yeah I said it.

That's probably why I'm loving that game then, since it's not some turn based yuck. I loved the hell out of the Armored Core games last gen and since this one is an action title I'm loving it as well.

I just wish they would release a Big O title here for PS3. As long as it was pretty close to the animated series I'd buy that in a second.
FYI, FME still holding at $22 both systems.
Sweet!! By any chance, do you know the TIV of Star Ocean: Last Hope International for the PS3?

Thanks for the updates HawaiiBoy!

AT my local store teh DVD's all dropped to $1 or less on the last day, the Bluray's and Games didn't drop much and were still around 40-50 percent off even on the last day, they said that they move them on to the next store getting liquidated.

Dude! our BBV and MG went out the same month... The employees held so much good stuff.....the manager at the MG was awesome though and let me buy part of one employees stack towards the end of the sale. lol.

Checked BB again today.

They had Batman AA for : ps3 : but was marked for $19.99 I had the girl scan it and it still came up as $19.99.

Will keep an eye out since that one has been on my wish list for awhile now.

It is frustrating though because there are several 19.99 games I would get for the B1G1.

Like what? What else did you see for the PS3 at $19.99 that you would have gotten? Thanks.

They wouldn't take another copy of Front Mission Evolved from me today(and converted over the two I traded in last week to rental copies), but I still picked up two games.

I picked up:

:ps3: Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days-$14.99
:ds: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers Of Sky-$14.99

I can trade PMD: EOS in to SecondSpin.com for $12 cash and essentially have only paid $3.89 for K&L2.;)

iv still got some kane and lynch 2 locked in for 15 and 12 from gazelle a few weeks back. ill have to check bbv n see if i can find any. thanx hawaiiboy. i just got the knl2 plat a few days ago, woot, hardest part was making my grrl play through easy co-op with me.

can you guys confirm that prince of persia forgotten sands ps3 is the only version still $19.99? I remember xbox and wii versions being $14.99 but I think i forgot to have the ps3 version scanned, and that was the version i was gonna keep for myself.

Psst... Hey, I'll let you all in on a little TRADE secret...

MLB 2K10 (X360) went up to $20 TIV on Amazon. Lock it while it's hot!

Shh.. don't tell anyone. :whistle2:$

Great Sale. Got Bayonetta and POP: The Forgotten Sands, then three days later got Army of Two: 40th Day and LostP2, which I sold, and FFXIII for the heck of it.

Thank you much, sir. The right price to dump my personal copy, and go hunt for free games for each copy I find @ BBV.

TIV for Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions?

Next question: I don't see a TIV list anymore on the first page. Is everyone just calling for TIV?

If that's the case, please don't go through the trouble ... I can call BBV on my lunch break. Truly not a lazy CAG, just not seeing it listed anywhere.

hey questions, I need the manual right for amazon trade ins? and can it be in one of those black BBV cases as long as it has everything?

Except that Amazon(actually it's a company called Nor-Am running their trade program) only takes two or three of any one title from someone in a year, just like the Best Buy/ Deal Tree program.

So don't go buying up 10 copies to send to Amazon, since any over those 2-3 will be denied and you'll be stuck with them due to BBV's strict return policy.:whistle2:#

Determining Product Eligibility

Only items that match the exact version displayed in our Amazon Trade-in Stores are eligible for trade-in. For textbooks, the exact version is determined by ISBN. We're constantly updating the trade-in program with new titles. Please check back often to see what's been added:
Items must be in good condition and arrive complete with all elements undamaged and in original packaging. For textbooks, this includes the cover, pages, binding, and any associated media. For video games and movies, this includes the correct disc(s), manual, cover art, bundled accessories, UPC, and case. For hardware, this includes all cables, controllers, bundled media, memory cards, hard drives, batteries, etc. Media items must have been originally sold by a retailer in North America.

When in doubt send an original factory case with the game(s).

I picked up some games for me and my kids. Bayonetta (360) and Kingdom Hearts (DS) for $15. Drawn to Life:Next Chapter (Wii) and No More Heroes 2 (Wii) for $10.
