What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Am I the only one who buys these games for themselves? I'm not trying to disparage flippers, but I'll admit I get frustrated by people who snatch up games I actually want to own and play so they can flip them. I can understand why people would want to. But knowing I missed out on a great game at a great price because someone's buying it just long enough to sell it definitely sucks.
This thread smells of El' Hordo!
Indeed, but given what BBV did after their last big B1G1 sale, I actually encourage El Hoardo to go nuts on this sale.

What happened last time? BBV sold off nearly all their used game stock to some third-party (El Hoardo in corporate form ;)) and the stores were barren of used titles for quite a while. That is why many of the games listed in the OP can't be found any more. They may have made it through the entire last 2 B1G1 sales but were all shipped off.

The more we buy from BBV during these sales, the more likely they will continue running them and not dump their stock off at a big discount to someone else. Plus the big cash infusion will surely help keep BBV afloat for at least a little while longer.

So, yeah, I actually don't have a problem with El Hoardo in this particular case. And for the most part, the "big" games from this sale have been available in mass quantity at most stores. I mean, if you missed getting Bioshock 2, Army of Two 40th Day, Dante's Inferno, MLB 2K10, and now Kane & Lynch 2, well, then, get out there sooner next time. And I don't mean you had to camp out last Tuesday when the store opened to get this stuff - had you simply gone any time last week it should have been pretty easy to find most of it (and still is in many places).

Some of the oddball finds (NSBM DS, Maro & Sonic Winter Olympics, etc) are probably long gone, but they were rare to begin with given that most of those were part of the big sell-off after the last B1G1. So yeah, on those you probably had to be there the first day.

You cant be mad at a corp trying to do what they can to stay open, yes its kinda a wasted effort but its thier stores and thier inventory to do as they wish.

You're not alone! 90% of the time I buy games and play them, not flip.

I'm about 50/50 keep vs. flip. I've never cleaned out a place during the first few days, leaving some of the "hot" stuff behind if there are more than 1 copy. Once a week rolls around, I figure that it's up for grabs.

Yeah I've bought most of these games for myself as well. I have 1 to trade in and that's all. That's not to say I wouldn't picked up more MLB 2k10 if I knew how amazon trade in worked. But I doubt that's a super hot big seller.

The BBV I went to had Uncharted 2 for $20, well that's what the sticker said... Damn I should've had them scan it for me. :whistle2:/

they let you use a 19.99 game for b1g1?
they let you use a 19.99 game for b1g1?
I think it depends on the manager there. Some let you buy a 19.99 game and then get one that's 14.99 free. Some don't.

:applause::applause::applause: x infinity

Even with the Best Buy free game after coupon glitches a while back you had people who waited all week to check CAG come in on a Saturday night and try to rip into those who exploited the hell out of that glitch. Then when some of us tried offering up copies of said games for the cost of shipping they balked. I guess we were supposed to just ship the games to them for free as a courtesy because they couldn't find 10 minutes to print a coupon and go into BB to grab one themselves?

If you want the deal, pay attention to CAG more often and get out there and get them. If a sale starts on a Sunday or Monday and you wait until Saturday night to go out and try to grab something from it don't expect to find the good games left because other gamers(and yes flippers) probably got there long before you.:booty:

Now can we stop with the 'omg I see hoarders' bs and get back to the BBV deals please?
I think it depends on the manager there. Some let you buy a 19.99 game and then get one that's 14.99 free. Some don't.
think I will try it out tomorrw...probably not gonna work though

A BBV I went to today had 3 cases in the rental section for New Super Mario Bros. DS. I thought I was going to get out of there with 2 complete copies for $10 since most stores I have asked at will convert all but one copy for sale.

When I asked, he said he only had two rentals on the system and it was such a popular title he would not even convert one.

I'll try again if there is a price drop in the coming weeks, but I bet someone he knows ends up with a copy.

I only flipped a copy of Zelda Spirit Tracks for $14 cash, and then repurchased another copy of Spirit Tracks along with Dragon Age PS3.
Otherwise I've only been purchasing games I'm interested in to actually play/keep.
Between the games I picked up at BBV, and the ones I know I'm getting for Christmas I don't even want to see another sale for some time. I've got way too much stuff to play now, and don't need anymore temptations.
uncharted 2 IS $19.99 at corporate stores
Oh! I misunderstood/misread. He got a $20 game as part of the B1G1. Damn I want that deal!

When do we get price drop news ... I think the last update from hawaii boy was friday, so hopefully we get good news tomorrow ... come on god of war 3.

I bought 32 games from Blockbuster today. Thanks CAG! Tons of awesome gifts for my brothers and cousins, and I'm going to sell the rest to some of my friends that need cheap games.

Here's what I got:

Bioshock 2 360
Bayonetta 360
Army of Two 40 Days (PS3 and 360)
Madden 2010 (PS3 and 360)
Splinter Cell Conviction 360
Aliens vs Predator (PS3)
Brutal Legend 360
Darksiders (360)
Red Faction Guerrilla (PS3 and 360)
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010 PS3
Gears of War 2 360
Wet PS3
Lost Planet 2 360
Crackdown 2 360
Mass Effect 2 360
Dirt 2 PS3
Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands 360
Risen 360
Blood Bowl 360
MX vs ATV Reflex PS3
Kane & Lynch 2 (PS3 and 360)

Here's an epic loot picture: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._482050698663_503653663_5723010_5027253_n.jpg

I got all of that for under $200. I passed on stuff like Dante's Inferno, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising... it was hard to resist my inner El Hoardo but I left a ton of games for other lucky shoppers. Can't wait for God of War 3/Collection and Uncharted 2 to drop down to $14.99... even though I already have them/have beat 'em, they will make great gifts.

Again, thanks CAG. Giving away awesome games for Christmas @ $7 each is sweet!

BIG FYI: Different platforms have different values! For example, PS3 Lost Planet 2 rang up @ $19.99... but the 360 version is only $14.99! So YMMV

That is one epic haul and I salute you for not only being able to find all those games but being able to find them all in their original cases. Did you happen to get manuals for all of them too?

Also it's great of you to actually gift these games instead of selling them off for credit. :applause:

What he^ said.

Yea, even games over $14.99 were part of the deal. Of course, I had to pay for the $19.99 game, and the clerk had to take the free game off manually.
Frack. I saw your post Hawaii and I was all excited ... "what is the update!!!"

Then I saw your post. Heartbreaking.
I don't think that the "purchase 25 dollars gift card get 5 gift card" was the update.

I think the update is supposed to be the price drops? Hopefully?

HawaiiBoy = Prophet

He said hopefully tonight he'll know the update, which will give us a few more hours to pray to the video game gods to give us more cheap games next week.

No, I just meant the update was ... I'll hopefully update you later!

O wow that $25 GC get $5 free would be nice since I just bought some games the other day.

Ive seen a couple posts about the return policy. Could I return all the game and get credit on a card then buy a GC, then buy the games again?
hopefully we get the update tonight and remember starting on 12/20-12/26 buy $25 in giftcards get $5 free.
you are the man Hawaiiboy!

Anyone get a general stance on used game returns? I saw the previous posts about it, but I'm curious. Also, going to call BBV right now and see what they say.

Got Crackdown 2 and Ao2:TFD, and gonna return one. Both came in pristine condition surprisingly, with manuals/inserts.

Lady said something along the lines of: "You have 30 days to return something and swap out the disc, if it doesn't play." - and when asked if it could be swapped out for something of the same value, "No" :(

The girl who was nice enough to check both discs (and let me check them too) when I bought them, just said I had 30 days to return them if I don't like them.

Hmmm... I don't know if I want to try in-store.

Found a stray Mario/Sonic Winter for Wii while out looking for some Army of Two. Glad I decided to pick it up; trade in value for it at Amazon has gone up to $19.25!

i don't know why this isn't part of the sale. Would Blockbuster be pissed if someone bought a $24.99 game and got a free $14.99 game? Of course not. They give one away if you buy it for $14.99. Every manager should be doing this.

It's up to manager's discretion usually, but policy is that you can get an exchange ONLY and NO refunds.

The ones around me told me i had 30 days for a refund or exchange.

Went to the BBV by my house about 90 minutes ago. It's the same one that had all of about a dozen items included in their "sale" last time. Again, it was about a dozen items.

Highlights (AKA, what I bought):
Transformers Autobots DS $9.99 (gift)
Shrek Forever After DS $9.99 (gift)
Family Guy PS2 $9.99
Harry Potter Half-blood Prince $9.99 (gift)
Star Wars Clone Wars Republic Heroes $9.99 (gift)
Astro Boy Wii $9.99 (gift)

I also ended up buying the Family Guy Partial Terms of Endearment for $9.99, Young Frankenstein for $7.99 and a Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Music CD for $4.99, since my mom loves them and missed their show that was just in town. The total ended up to be $56.xx after tax.

Only real highlights I saw that I didn't get was I think Marvel vs Capcom Wii for $14.99 and Dead Space Extraction Wii for $9.99. I'd have gotten Dead Space Extraction, except I just bought it from Walmart today for $8.52 after tax shipped (which works out better imo, because the BBV copy didn't have a Wii case, or cover art, and I'm pretty sure it was lacking a manual). Woulda picked up MvC but there was literally nothing else to pair it with.
I want a manual to white knight chronicles ... if anyone wants to sell one for a couple of bucks, let me know ...
I got one. PM me.
The ones around me told me i had 30 days for a refund or exchange.
That's a 30 day guarantee against defective games only. Not a return if you change your mind policy, like GS has. You may get a friendly manager or employee who lets you make a return, but don't count on it.

Yeah I dont really want a refund. I got Darksiders for 14.99 but paired it with ME2 for 9.99. Didnt realize it was 14.99. I would have just paired another Bioshock 2 with Darksiders, then pair Mass Effect 2 with something else. Id take credit back and just rebuy the games. But with this GC deal now, Id like to buy a gift card after I return the games and get credit, then rebuy the games.

Its a 5$ difference but I would have put another $5 down to get ME2 and something else like Wolverine.

Whoops, my bad. It was Marvel Superhero Squad.

Had it been Tatsunoko vs Capcom, I'd have bit and added the $6 Coraline or something for all I cared. It was a crappy selection, since they had (yet again) one whole aisle endcap of stuff to choose from. Luckily, some other stuff I found in the DS section (all of 1/2 of an aisle, so probably 10 feet of stuff, and about 6 were priced) was under $15, or else I'd have walked out in disgust.
