What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Maybe maybe not. It SHOULDNT since it is used, but you may find one somewhere.

Not on the website, but if you go to one store, and ask, they can search other stores in the area for a game. They won't know how many the stores have of each game, but you'll at least know where to go look.

Actually they can tell you how many copies a store has.

Thats good to know. Monday when I go in to get the copies of GoW3, I may inquire about some games like SSBB and Dragon Age.
Ok here we go. Some goodies this week.
Price drops effective 12/20.

PS3
Dante's inferno $14.99
God of war III $14.99
Nier $14.99
Singularity $14.99

X360
Battlefield bad co 2 $14.99 (yes only x360 version ps3 $19.99)
Dead to rights retribution $14.99 (only x360)
Nier $14.99
Resident evil 5 $14.99
Singularity $14.99
Ufc undisputed 2010 $14.99

I only listed the games dropping to $14.99 as I'm sure that's what everyone is interested in.
Nice. I went to a local Blockbuster today and picked up Splinter Cell Conviction ($14.99) as a gift, and Bayonetta (PS3; $9.99) for myself. Now it looks like I may need to go to another local one on Monday where I've seen God of War 3 before and pick it up with something else, probably Prince of Persia FS or Darksiders depending on what they have.

Only one more game left that I would need to drop to make this one of my more awesome B1G1s and that's assassin's creed 2. I'm curious as to what I should match BFBC2 with. I'm getting GOW3 new from Playstation RLS, I already played through DI and RE5 and can't warrant getting them again to just have them sit on my shelf. Im thinking Singularity or Nier, what are the chances 3d dot game heroes would be under $14.99 and at one of my local stores. :p

Finally BFBC2 drops. I just hope the few copies my BB has with VIP codes are still there and they work. Is there a way I can test the code on my 360 without redeeming it?

Nope lol

Just type the code into the 360 and don't confirm it. OR if you have a smartphone, try the codes out before you buy at least. But I think you might have a hard time finding one with a working VIP pass.

I am going to buy the games regardless, but I just don't want to get their hopes up giving them a bad code.

OMG...this sale is killing my wallet with it's oh so sweet deals! Singularity, Nier, GW3, Dead to Rights Retribution...might grab Battlefield Bad Co 2 for a friend. Thanks hawaiiboy!
Actually they can tell you how many copies a store has.
Thanks for clarifying. I had a memory leak and was actually thinking of the prepacks (this store has X many, but we don't know what games).

Dead to Rights is a surprisingly fun 3rd person shooter. Just don't take it too seriously.

Bought it a few months back for $10 at fam video and it's pretty good.

Tomorrow is best day for this for me. A store I know is closing, and there's bound to be huge discounts. Even if the sale doesnt apply I'll make out on the closing discounts.

Come on man have you ever been to a store closing before? The only 'discounts' you'll see are 10% off games, unless it's the very end after all the good stuff is long gone and then like 40%. Average consumers swarm to 10-20% off deals.

I've only checked out the sp of 1 and it seemed lie a fun story, but it felt very unrealistic like I was deathmatching with bots who knew where I was at all times. Are the BFs still ALL about mp or not?

Don't forget they usually raise their prices before they start marking them down.

So the BC2 VIP code is needed to play online? Is it a rip card or on the back of the manual?

yet these same people pay no attention to the B1G1 sales... gotta love the ignorant shopper, they make getting deals for us that much easier.

The VIP code is only for extra VIP content like free maps, DLC, etc. It is a separate sheet/paper from the manual. You DO NOT need it to play online.

There is a closing sale, but tomorrow is the best day for the exact reason you mention. The 40% off lol. What other time could be the best time! The last 3 days for the particular store I'm going to. I intentionally waited this long. Talked to the manager a little after B1G1 started, and I'm probably one a few that know this. Also this store isnt as busy as another I know of.

Yeah, BF2 continues that feeling. The MP is... "better". Lots of people love it instead of CoD. It's like CoD with vehicles, and better physics. And unique game modes.

VIP adds around 8 packs of... 2? I think? maps (7 of them are just the same old maps redone for different game types, though I think one or two add a new map, period)

Honestly, you get the best maps without the VIP pack. Problem is, if you try to play without it, you'll end up having to find a new game when it kicks you on a map you don't have.

The last 3 days for the particular store I'm going to. I intentionally waited this long. Talked to the manager a little after B1G1 started, and I'm probably one a few that know this. Also this store isnt as busy as another I know of.
That if the Store Manager is there and he still has them. I know District Manager came into the Blockbuster that was closing by me and said to put every game back on the shelf even if an employee was holding it. So yeah, good luck with that.

Dont need luck. The landlord of the spot their on is giving them the boot. The managaer I talked to who mentioned this....The Assistant Store manager. Sorry to burst your bubble man. It's practically set in stone. You cant get around a landlord you're renting from when it's their spot. Totally out of BlockBusters hands. They even tried negotiating it with the landlord. I covered my bases before knowing I was going. Got all the info I needed. So try again. :p

Also dont be butthurt cause you cant be as lucky. I cant help what's happening to this store. All I know is I'm taking advantage of it.

Any other takers??

Btw, for those of you who flip stuff, looks like the TiV for GoW3 is just $5 at Gamestop. Not a good flip at all unless there's a good deal for trade ins in the future. GS's 50% bonus trade in deal ends tonight.

Last time I checked GS isn't the only place that does trade-ins.

i dont think thats where most people were gonna flip GOW3.

what in the world are you talking about. that response had nothing to do what vulcan was trying to convey. i've worked in a few closing stores and employees are told they cannot hold anything for anyone. some managers allow it and others dont.

I've given up on it honestly. If he want's to come in here and keep saying how butthurt we are over his deal, then what ever. I'm so butthurt cause of how lucky he is. Ouch. It hurts. Why not take this to the bragging rights discussion instead of crapping this one up with your luckyness.

Anyways, prob going to check out a local blockbuster by me today to see if they have anymore copies of Smackdown vs Raw 2010 and hopefully get something else along with it. I picked up Kane and Lynch 2 but man, the Online community is dead. Sad, cause I liked it a lot too.
Went to blockbuster today and the selection was an epic fail. :(
If I'm not mistaken they'll transfer the rentals to PRPs (for sale) evening/tonight, so go tonight or tomorrow. (each BBV is different.)

I'd be butthurt if my Blockbuster was closing (meaning no more B1G1 sales), but whatever makes you feel better about yourself.

Are you serious! OMG!

Yes, no shit there are other places to flip stuff. Unlike you guys, I don't have time or the energy to run around town to make a quick flip and research all the best places to make $. Family and job come first. You young whippersnappers can do what you want, but it's not worth my time. Just save me one fucking copy of GoW3 tomorrow for me to keep.

It takes less time and effort to trade into amazon. Go home (which you would do anyway), submit the trade in, put em in a box, and in your normal daily travels put the package in a drop box. I rather do that go to GS and hope they'll take more than 1 copy of a specific game because if they don't that means I need to drive to another GameStop.

Amazon trade ins are easy - look it up at home, drop it in the mail.

No traveling around other than at blockbusters. :)

Amazon trade-ins are made even easier for me as the main blockbuster I go to in the area shares a parking lot with the UPS store. I sometimes submit a trade in, print off the shipping info, bring a box and tape with me to the store, and if I find what I'm looking for I just pack it up and run next door to the UPS store. There's also a target and best buy in the same general lot, so rinse and repeat if we're talking about clearance items or even trading into best buy which occasionally actually beats out Amazon.

Um....No....What are you talking about? I never said anything about games being held for me. You guys dragged that out of your asses. All I said, was that I talked to the Assistant Store Manager, and got the details about the closure, and am taking advantage of it. Where does your reading comprehension come in and say "Hey he says he has people holding games at a closing sale" when I never said anything relating to that? Lmao. Only other thing I said was that the store wasnt the busiest in my area.

Again where did you get the idea someone is holding games for me when I never stated it? Are you really trying to shove words in my mouth?

To saltytbone. I got another store. Clearly mentioned that. This one little closure doesnt bother me.

To Saix. Yeah you came off like that. I knew my details, and you had to chime in about district managers, and yada, yada, yada when as I stated to Hawaiinboy.....There is no holds on anything for me!! This is a stab in the dark, on a not so busy store. Make sense??? People like you who have no business misconstruing posts only prove who they really are. Butthurt.

The sooner you guys shut up about it the less you have to hear about it, and the less I have to respond to idiocy.

I mean seriously....I mention the best time to get to it would be tomorrow, and I get some jackoff asking if I been to a closing....Um duh....The best time is obviously the last week of operation. I get people saying comments that I got things held! Um as stated (Again!!!)....Never said that.

LOL. Whether or not they put words in your mouth at least they were directing their comments at the right person. I didn't say a damn word about your situation.

Usually if you "TALK" to a manager and are "Taking advantage of it", it means you have games he/she is holding. Otherwise, why would you talk to him/her about the closing? To get a percentage of people that know about the sale and the geographic location of people shopping at the blockbuster?

No. It means I'm taking advantage of a not so busy store that is closing. Talking to a manager....To get the exact week of closing and a few other details, not for a percentage of people who know. If I mentioned that I'd tell everyone that the store in X state would be closing for that. Clearly I havent.

You guys sound less like CAGs with every post. I mean are you going to tell me that you wont ask a manager at a given store (any kind) about upcoming sales you'd be interested in?? Isnt that how some of the sale leaks we see come about on here? Someone savy enough to get it out of a manager of a store. Come on now.

The only way your comments made sense to me was if you had some games being held until they reach 40% off. BBV store closures very rarely work out for any CAG looking for a deal, because as replied earlier to your original post, there is seldom anything left by the time any game gets to "CAG" price. I just did not get what you were so excited about.

Are you suggesting you received some "inside information" from this (Asst) Manager?

Since I clearly do not understand what you are actually posting about (it seems I am not alone), I wish you well in your endeavor to find some highly discounted games at a closing BBV.
unless it's the very end after all the good stuff is long gone and then like 40%.
Damn that 40% cap. I remember once way back when it hit 90%. Now I don't bother going to closing ones for games.

Oh wait, I remember I got a yo-yo for $0.60 and a Johnny Depp/Mad Hatter mug for $2.xx at the most recently closed BBV. I really should go check out my local closing one this time around too.

Question about markdown times.
Will they automatically mark the prices down on Monday in their computers or will the employees have to do it themselves? I know the price tags will still say $19.99 but curious about how early the computers will change.

Just came back from a BBV and they had one copy of BFBC2 so was curious to see how early tomorrow I could go and pick it up for 14.99...still not sure what game to get free. Already gotten most of the good ones. Thinking Nier if they have it as well.

In for BFBC2 and KL2. I really liked the KL2 demo but passed (despite the price drops) because of the crap reviews. UFC 2010 doesn't seem like that big an improvement over 09 which I got during the last sale for $3.5. Plus it probably won't have the online code.

I guess there will be 2 more price drops before this over. Anybody know of good 360 games that are 19.99 or 24.99?

Just to start this off, I must have missed aeroforce's original post. I just see a bunch of back-and-forth, so I'm not sure exactly what kind of incredible deal he's supposedly getting but it seems like 40% off and a good selection?

But whatever it is, let's cut back on the discussion of that as it is clearly YMMV and doesn't apply to 99.9% of us ;).

But just to reiterate that having a store close isn't all that wonderful (in general):
yet these same people pay no attention to the B1G1 sales... gotta love the ignorant shopper, they make getting deals for us that much easier.
Indeed - I have never seen a good deal at a closing BBV store. Yet the masses think it is great - "Wow 20% off video games, how cool!" Yet they ignore the B1G1 sales when they are going on.
There is a closing sale, but tomorrow is the best day for the exact reason you mention. The 40% off lol.
If you are getting 40% off I don't see the big deal. I guess you are getting 40% off the more expensive games? Eh, that's OK I guess. But what I found to be incredibly stupid was when I went in to one of these closing stores and at the same time there was a B1G1 going at non-closing stores. Of course the liquidating store didn't have the B1G1 - the games were just 20%. So, yeah, I could get the same stuff for 20% off there or 50% off at a regular store .
I'd be butthurt if my Blockbuster was closing (meaning no more B1G1 sales), but whatever makes you feel better about yourself.
Exactly. I don't want to see any more stores close - the more there are around the more likely I am to find great stuff at the B1G1 sales. We've lost too many around here already (they are down to about half what they used to be 4-5 years ago).
If I'm not mistaken they'll transfer the rentals to PRPs (for sale) evening/tonight, so go tonight or tomorrow. (each BBV is different.)
Does this apply to every BBV that would save me some time and avoid going out in the rain:cold:.
