What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
To saltytbone. I got another store. Clearly mentioned that. This one little closure doesnt bother me.
I've gone from 14 stores within a half-hour drive to 8 in the past two years. Every store that closes is one less option. I miss them. So, yeah, slaughter the cow and enjoy the 40% off. I'd rather have the milk for years to come.

I only just recently figured out that Mass Effect 2 comes with a one time use code for the cerberus network (obviously my bbv copy didnt have it). A quick trip to gamestop and I found one in a preowned game. The ol' buy and return and the code actually worked. Lucky i guess...

Question about markdown times.
Will they automatically mark the prices down on Monday in their computers or will the employees have to do it themselves? I know the price tags will still say $19.99 but curious about how early the computers will change.

The price changes download overnight so as soon as the store opens prices will be valid.

Exactly. I don't want to see any more stores close - the more there are around the more likely I am to find great stuff at the B1G1 sales. We've lost too many around here already (they are down to about half what they used to be 4-5 years ago).
A lot of my personal collection of games have come from B1G1 over the past few years... or (as per previous b1g1s) as the direct result of a b1g1. I was sad when the worst store in our district closed, but it made me even sadder seeing 4 more closed as well. :(

This coupled with hundreds of non-informative, gushing posts 2 days before the sale...highlights the hell out of the deal for lurkers and hoarders.
When this particular sale started I visited a few stores only to find out just before me a man that owns a pawn store bought $3xx, $18x, and $224 worth of games at this and many other locations that day...
Just keep highlighting the hell out of the few stores left...oh yeah, and he mentioned to a manager..."read about it on line days ago..."
Keep the blogging and bragging up....

smart as hell....bravo....:applause:

a cag is just an ebay-seller/slickdealer w/ a superiority complex. flipping some games to offset one's gaming habit used to be the norm, but it has turned into 1st-day cleanout operations. i propose a truce: for the first few days cags only buy games that they are going to play (or a single copy of a game). then cags can go back for multiples, etc.

Be prepared for more closings early next year. Just found out 2 more stores in my district are closing in early Jan. Were down to 4 stores within a 1/2 hour as opposed to the 8 we had last yr.

Sometimes I wish the Mods would just delete those "arguments" between users and tell them to take it into private discussions (I swear people only enjoy to do it in a public online forum).

ANYWAYS

I already picked up Darksiders & Bio Shock 2. Last week I got 2 copies of Kane & Lynch 2 (1 for my friend, so we can play co-op online) and this week I'm hoping to pick up Dead to Rights & Dante's Inferno (or maybe PoP).

I mainly wanted to get Crackdown 2 & GTA: Episodes of Liberty City out of this sale, but didn't see a single copy at any one of the 3 locations I've checked out. I've seen a lot of Splinter Cell: Conviction's though, Blockbuster must've really overbought that game. Would pick up Battlefield: Bad Company 2, but I just bought it a few weeks before from GameFly for $13 (I really am enjoying it...recommend it highly).

Hopefully they'll add more into the inventory soon.

so glad i didnt pick up kane and lynch 2 last week. there wasn't anything else to go with it. i went back in today just to look and behold there was a couple GOW3 copies. went ahead and picked up KL2 and GOW3. never played any GOW games before and so far GOW3 is just tons of awesome. loving it.

I've seen tons of Crackdowns in my area. At least 2 copies at each of the 5 stores I visited.

I haven't seen a SINGLE GTA: ELC though. I was REALLY looking to buy that game. Hopefully when they bring some of the Rentals down to Pre-Played I'll be able to pick that one up.

Hopefully..

Thing is, it's not always an active CAG/SDer who posts who is cleaning out these stores. It's likely one of the multitudes of lurkers who just read the threads and don't post who are the culprits of these strategic assaults on the used stock.

So here's an idea for all of the people who are likely gonna whine on Saturday night about 'nothing being left'. Get there bright and early tomorrow morning when BBV opens and grab what you want because those who are buying to resell/flip are not going to wait for you to stroll in at your convenience.

And if you can't find one of the games you wanted from this sale at your store, might I suggest the ample trading forum here on CAG? Many folks have some of these same games at reasonable(but not BOGO) prices and would be more than happy to help you out.

All the games I buy I play. I actually picked up the Kingdom Hearts games 358 days or something and UFC 2010. Not a bad haul for me honestly.

If I read correctly, they're putting some rentals to Pre-owned on Monday right? Or was it Tuesday?

Anyway, would these Rentals be on the pre-owned shelves as soon as the store opens? Or should i wait a few hours after it is opened to go grab them??

Of course this is probably YMMV but I'd like to have a general consensus about this. XP

That's fair.
All the games I buy I play. I actually picked up the Kingdom Hearts games 358 days or something and UFC 2010. Not a bad haul for me honestly.
That's fine. and i didn't mean to sound like i was accusing cags of anything nefarious. we're all cags here. I was talking about decisions we all have been making. I've been guilty of buying multiples like everyone else. I just wait a while and don't clear stock out completely el hoardo style.

I LOVE YOU GUYS!! haha

Picked up these for the B1G1 $14.99 and under deal
1.Prototype (wanted this for a while now)
2.Army of Two 40th Day
3.Madden 10
4.Singularity

Will be hitting my local store to get the updated ones tomorrow. Anyone looking for anything in particular I'll grab it and if you pay shipping and a buck or two I'll shoot it your way.

Well, there has to be a balance with the way the thread is run. I think I handled it the best way possible in that of course the discussion of the B1G1 went on ahead of time thanks to hawaiiboy but I didn't update the thread title until the morning it went live. On the one hand you seem to indicate that we shouldn't be talking about it in advance. and on the other hand, I've been accused before of "hiding" deals from the rest of CAG for "my buddies" in this thread by not updating the thread title in advance, so it seems I can't win either way ;). But with the way I did it this time I updated it early AM the Tuesday it started. That gave any long time BB/GR thread people plenty of time to get out to at least a store or two before too many people found out about it. But on the other hand, this is one of the bigger deals of the year (IMO, though it never wins a Cheapie award) and I can't very well keep it secret from the rest of CAG.

If a pawn shop owner happens to be a member of CAG and reads this thread regularly, well, then that sort of thing is going to happen no matter what anyone here does. I'd much rather have hawaiiboy tell us of the deals than not mention it at all, though. I probably wouldn't have found out about it till a week after it started (when I stumbled in to BBV to use a free movie rental coupon) if I didn't have the info from here. And it was nice to plan out where/when I could go in advance.

I noticed the stores being more or less untouched for days after the sale started. At one store they told me they had sold a few $100 worth of games the first day but they had pretty much everything on the recent drop list so I wouldn't have been able to tell.
so glad i didnt pick up kane and lynch 2 last week. there wasn't anything else to go with it. i went back in today just to look and behold there was a couple GOW3 copies. went ahead and picked up KL2 and GOW3. never played any GOW games before and so far GOW3 is just tons of awesome. loving it.
Wait, what? I think this is what might have led to the subsequent confusion about the start date. How did you get GoW3 for $14.99 today (Sunday)?

And on a completely different topic, I started playing Front Mission Evolved last night and thought it was pretty good. In some ways it almost reminds me a bit of Vanquish though it is not nearly as fast and spectacular and graphically impressive as that game. But you do have the ability to "skate" around and attack, plus similar weapons and enemy types (though they are people in mechs in this one vs the robots in Vanquish). It is definitely worth a play-through though before trading it in - and the good news is that I think it is relatively short. I put in a few hours last night and I think, based on the mission list, I am about 2/3 through it already.
If I read correctly, they're putting some rentals to Pre-owned on Monday right? Or was it Tuesday?

Wondering this too.

Well I believe it depends on the store, as you said YMMV. One store told to come in Tuesday. And another told me to come in on Sunday evening (of course the price drop wouldn't happen until Monday though...)

Usually though it seems they do most of the rental conversions at night. I used to frequent a BBV, had a friend work there, and they pulled the rentals to convert them at night and depending on how they felt would either do the conversions after store hours or the morning. Most of the time at night though.
a cag is just an ebay-seller/slickdealer w/ a superiority complex. flipping some games to offset one's gaming habit used to be the norm, but it has turned into 1st-day cleanout operations. i propose a truce: for the first few days cags only buy games that they are going to play (or a single copy of a game). then cags can go back for multiples, etc.
That more or less sums up my personal rules. I usually make a trip before I even look into trade in prices. If I find some good flips I wait a few days, make sure anyone who really wanted to go and hit the sale most likely has, and then I'll pick up some games for the sake of flipping. Even then, I think I've picked up a total of 5 games from B1G1 sales for flipping in the last year. Mostly cause if it isn't at least $5 more I don't bother, and I really don't usually bother unless it's twice what I paid. (I.E. picked up PoP for $5, played it, and trading it in to Amazon tomorrow for $11.25)

Ah. I see. I guess I'll just visit on Monday afternoon and Tuesday as well.

Thankss.

There will always be a lemon in the bunch bitching about something. If 2 out of 3 of us are glad you put this up.. then that's a plus in my book! Thanks to this thread I got in my local store at 9:30 .. manager was a sweetheart went through the box of games behind the counter without cases.. found games not on the shelf lemme look through and pick and choose.. and hooked me up with the Monday price of Singularity even though it was 10 minutes to close on Sunday.

So thanks to who posted this I appreciate it. I'm not reselling the games I'm adding to my collection or "horde" haha

I'm gonna pick up GoW3 hopefully...and I don't know what else.
Maybe Dante's Inferno just for the tittys...but whatever.

Wish GoW Collection went down to $14.99. Oh well, GoW3 is still very good. I think I'll pair it up with either Dante or Bioshock 2.

No prob. It'd be best to ask one the "cool" employees on when they convert. :)

hawaiiboy, or another BBV employee, can probably answer this...
How exactly do they convert the rentals to PRP?
When I used to visit, they'd have a list of titles to pull and roll around with a cart during evenings/night during the Saturday (I believe) shift. Was the list already converted to PRPs or did they have to pull according to this list and then convert?

If it's already converted then all they really have to do is pull, sticker, stock. If not then they have to pull, sticker, scan, then stock? (which would take more time?)

I feel like I'm thinking about this a little too much.

Fingers crossed for BC 2...will be heading out right when it opens today but only checking the nearest store. I'd even take the one they had which didn't have the real cover/case.
what time does BBV open nowadays? are they on holiday hours?
if they don't have holiday hours (not sure why they would), they open at 10am. at least, the one I go to does.

Ack. Wondering if I should wait until my lunch (11am) or just go when they open at 10... I don't want people getting upset if I leave at 10 for lunch. I'd only take me 30 mins... hmm.

That's on the sale, not in the OP or anything from Hawaiiboy that I've seen?

How can I find out if it's a corporate store or not?

I had both items scanned, but walked in yesterday and asked about drops and they stated they had recieved no price drops for mon either - in ATL area

I stopped by two stores in NE Ohio and both stores hadn't yet changed the stickers on their games but they were indeed $14.99.

I picked up in one store God of War 3 and White Knight Chronicles (still stickered as $19.99) and in another store I picked up two :360: copies of Battlefield Bad Company 2 for a friend and myself. One store had plenty of copies of God of War 3 and Dante's Inferno :ps3: but I picked up the :360: version last week.

I wanted to get Singularity :360: but apparently no one in the region has it used. Oh well.
Are the price drops effective today? I thought they didn't go into effect until Tuesday?
It's really YMMV. Cause I went in last night and they had BC2 already dropped to 14.99
