What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Never realized FYE TIVs were so good. I really didn't even want Kane & Lynch, just needed something to match with Bad Company. Def going to have to head in there tomorrow since I'm returning a pair of headphones anyway. Top it off, I was about to ship a copy of Green Day Rockband I picked up for $19 in target clearance to Amazon for $19 only to see that the flyer they have on their site for used games is saying $24 cash for it... may have to print that off and bring that there too.
trade thread is that way 8=======)
I lol'd, but only because I used to read the penny guide thread.

question for anyone who picked up GOW, are there any swirls on your discs? That's the only ps3 game that I own that has them. Maybe they used some solvent to clean the game?

I commented on this a long time ago as I was surprised by this as well. I think it was when they had the 50% off glitch and I bought it back then for $20 after 50% (which was OK because I got to beat it and then send it to Gazelle or Dealtree for $30+).

They are all like that. I think someone said it is because it is a dual-layer blu-ray. Someone else said all of his blu-rays are like that but I definitely do not agree with that. This one stands out from nearly every other game and movie I have. There are a few others like that but I forget which.

By the way, I went to 3 more BBV stores tonight and saw 2-8 GoW III at each one. I didn't pick up much, as they didn't have too much other than the recent drops. And no prepacks in sight, as usual around here.

It must've been a whole run of the game that's like that then, since I've seen a bunch of people mention how the bottom of their GOW3 disc looked weird.

I saw both 'normal' looking copies last night as well as the weird looking one I picked up.

I plan on testing it before sending it into the place I'm mailing it to to pay for the rest of my games last night.:D

I had a bbv cashier at a store a mile from my house do a search for pre packs and was told a bbv 15 mile away had them. When I got there I found about 6 - 2k8 baseball games and other crap sports games. LOL picked up 2-UFC and ps3 Nier and Dead Rights (manual adjustment).
did R&C: crack in time drop to $14.99?
No. It's just been mentioned by numerous people(including IO) that they either saw or picked up the game.

You may wanna try reading the OP first next time.:booty:
I can confirm R&C: crack in time dropped to $14.99, I got it for the b1g1. In 6 stores, there was only 1 for rent or buy
awesome. I'll be looking for that today!

I'm really hoping for Borderlands (not GOTY) to drop. I think it's at $20 right now. If GoW collection drops and Borderland drops, I'm running to BBV as fast as I can on monday. keke.

Ya that would be great since I've seen a few of them, only problem is don't get your hopes up. Hawaiiboy has said drops only happen every other Monday and since they dropped this week there probably won't be another one until the 3rd which I think is when the sale ends but don't quote me on this, I've only been slightly following this thread

Doh. If this is true I am
So I bought two copies of GoW3, one for me, one for my brother. Turns out he's not interested. I looked to trade it in to Amazon but they're only giving $10. I'm trying to decide whether to sell it on Craigslist or what. I saw some people talking about FYE and Wherehouse but there's not a FYE close to me. What's my best bet since I probably can't return it? It's in like new condition, no scratchies.

I was able to return some games I had bought today but don't want to try that nightmare again (got a lot of grief from one of the employees).
Yeah Wherehouse.com is fantastic. They seem to be "behind" on lowering trade in values. I sent them 2 GOW3s and I believe the quote was 21.75 cash which they paypal you making it very easy. They dont allow more than 2 of one game so you can't go el hoardo on the site but the rates are great.

I was just wondering, if you check out with the games that you want to trade in, do you HAVE to send it to them? Like, does it work like Amazon's Trading where you just won't receive the money if you don't send it?

Nope... They can (and have) dropped every Monday. I believe there was a drop the past 3 weeks now.

Thanks for the info. Hope NORAM or wherehouse takes them, does anyone know? I remember some ps2 games being like that but not PS3 games. Weird batch as someone pointed out.

i don't suppose you'd be willing to trade ssbb and galaxy for another 15 set?
i can't find any of those anywhere in socal bbv's, and would appreciate the help seeing that i picked up a fair amount of decent titles that i'm willing to trade for...

Just hit 4 Blockbusters in the Monroe County (NY) area, and there was nothing, maybe 15-20 games per store and most of those PS2 and Wii shovelware. Guess I'll be hitting this one up next year.

Funny thing, FYE's in my area aren't taking trade-ins until after Christmas due to the holiday rush!!! Let's hope the flipping fodder values stay.

Talked to a manager, who is also into gaming, about the sale. He said he bought God of War 3 and God of War: The Collection for $15. I asked him how he did that and he said The Collection is also $14.99. I asked him if he was sure it was that price since I saw it at other stores at $19.99 and he said he was positive. Did The Collection go down to $14.99 also?

went to a blockbuster yesterday looking for ps3 games in the $14.99 bin. The only ones I was even barely interested in were Dante's Inferno and WKC. So instead I looked at the regular used games stack and saw MGS4 for $19.99 and Dragon Age for $24.99. Having already read this thread, I asked the clerk if he could check the prices for both games and sure enough both were $14.99 and eligible for the deal. I already figured Dragon Age would be eligible since it said it in the first post, but wasn;t sure about MGS4. Anyhoo, thanks for pointhing out these deals

Some of those trade-in values at Wherehouse.com seem too good to be true. As tempted as I am to flip some games their way, the big fat "F" rating on BBB screams at me to stay away. Then there are the complaints of them not accepting many a working disc--the music or game variety. Probably a 50/50 proposition based on the condition of Blockbuster games... I've never had a problem with any I've ever bought from the store, but most do have a minor blemish or two.

GOW collection is definitely still $19.99.

Really stupidish question but are Wherehouse.com and Secondspin.com the same companies for trade ins? As in, I already have two GOW3's I am sending to Secondspin but can I also send some (if I can still find them) to Wherehouse as well? Thanks in advance!

Thanks again to whoever posted about Kane & Lynch at FYE. $26.40 for a game I paid $7 for and didn't really want anyway (but I had or had already played every other game but Bad Company 2) was a great win in my book. Especially since it only trade for a $1 at Amazon at the moment.

Unfortunately the flyer on their website is totally not up to date as Green Day Rock Band was only $9 cash as opposed to $24 like the site states. Guy only agreed to do the trades since I only had 2 of them (well really only 1 actual trade in), otherwise I would of gotten the same holiday rush line.

Has anyone had used Wherehouse lately? I didn't even know it existed until last week. I want to send in a few games, but the acceptance police makes me a little reluctant:

Video games cannot be scratched (even if they play), cracked, chipped or skipping. Instruction booklet must be included. We reserve the right to make these determinations.

The FAQ says "a couple of light scratches" are fine. How are they with returning items they reject?

They don't return games according to their FAQ
Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed. My haul today included:

SSBB
Super Mario Galaxy
i don't suppose you'd be willing to trade for these, something of equivalent value, as it's near impossible to find these in so cal,
i've gotten confirmation of multiple El Hoardos from the 2 of the long beach stores, and one of them doesn't seem to be from around here, buys massive quantities of the interesting titles and apparently, doesn't get hassled much...
my haul this time was too impressive, but i can confirm that alan wake is down to 20 and that tatsu (wii) is at 15 and
gow 3 seems to be the flippers delight this time around...

The Better Business Bureau is a waste of resources as far as I'm concerned. I had an issue with one of those 'do this many offers, get this item' company a while ago where the company changed the terms mid deal(it went from do two deals to do two deals on each of two 'tiers') and they labeled the complaint as RESOLVED, even though I had sent them a screen capture of the initial page I started the deal on showing the two deals and done thing.

So yeah, the BBB can suck it as far as I'm concerned. I trust their 'ratings' as much as I trust getting a complete game from Gamestop.com.:whistle2:#

As for the condition thing, that's why you have to nitpick when buying used games, as they will NOT return rejected games and you'll be out both a game AND the shipping cost to send it to them.

That's why after double checking the game I think I'm gonna just trade my God Of War 3 to a local shop for $10-12 and call it a day since it has one scratch on it that I can see and their FAQ's in multiple spots are giving conflicting info. One says you can't have ANY scratches and the other says a 'few light scratches are fine'.

I really should email them before the 30 day deadline passes and get the word straight from the customer service people.

Finally found Singularity at the Rayford/Sawdust BBV for PS3. There was one more left if I remember well. Also got:

Call of Juarez 2 (360) - $10
Eternal Sonata (360) - Free
Aliens vs Predator (360) - free

Picked up today:

:360: Star Ocean: The Last Hope $14.99 - missing from OP

and the kind manager converted for sale

:ds: Animal Crossing Wild World $14.99 (free)

A bunch of Battlefield Bad Company 2 at $14.99 at my BB.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you need to PAY MONEY to be able to actually play the multiplayer online for that game?

I checked inside the boxes & they had the manuals, but no extra sheet of paper for the VIP code thing.

There is no additional charge to play online.

Yeah, the VIP code thing was just weapons and maps I believe (I have used one and I can't even tell you exacty what they gave me)

Guess I spoke too soon earlier, decided to try one last store and ended up grabbing the last copies of Overlord II and Dead to Rights: Retribution, both looked hardly touched. Also grabbed a copy of Uncharted 2, figured with the gift-card deal it was basically $15 and I've been wanting a copy for a while. I'm hoping that by doing so, I've guaranteed a price-drop for everyone else on Monday.
